The Druid walks to Koram's side, "I'll help you. I'll chant for the souls of these dead warriors, whilst you dig!"

Grom seats himself cross-legged between the bodies and adds, "and the party should stay together; its the reverant and the safest thing to do, We can all escort the Tapir's home once these souls have crossed the river between this life and the beyond"

Grom's eyes close and he begins humming the oddest of melodies; more like the twittering of birds at sun-up than a dirge for the dead.

Imek

By the time you've finished with the bodies, the sun is setting. Luckily you were not that far from camp and is able to return before nightfall.

As you walk back into camp with the tapirs, you see Imek is overseeing some other animal handlers and that a pen has been sat up for the tapirs. She greet you the moment she sees you. "Took your time, anything happen?"

Imek
Before you have time to reply, Imek seems to notice the tapirs. She carefully approaches them with glee in her eyes. "Have you given them names yet?" she asks.

"If not I'll call you Arnaaluk," she tells one of the tapirs, before looking at the other. "And you look like a Meriwa."

We found those two caught up in snare traps. We bound them and were ready to bring 'em home when two hunters came out of the bushes and said that they belonged to them.
We argued a bit and then they attacked. We all came back so you can imagine how the fight went. It's a pity but after all they were hunting on our grounds.
Igbork reports.
He thinks a bit while Imek names the tapirs
We haven't named them but I guess they won't mind being called Arnaaluk and Meriwa. Say Imek did you hear or see anything about people of other tribes nearby? If there are more or even a whole tribe nearby this could spell trouble for us.

"I agree, it's doubtful these were the only two from that tribe nearby. We also found the body of a woman yesterday, not of our Following either. If there is another Following close by that may be contesting our claim to the area, we need to be wary." He looks to the others, "Maybe it best we discuss this with the Mammoth Lords?"

Indeed, they need to be apprised of the situation. We can then proceed with their guidance. If we're done here, I say we speak with them now.

Atticus stands with his friends and awaits their decision.

Without speaking, Grom stands and ceremoniously wipes his hands down his garments as if to remove some invisible blemish as he strides towards Koram, nodding assent at Atticus

"I don't get much out," Imek says with a shrug. "I prefer to stay here with the cuddlies. But you should probably tell Wipa."

Her words are cut off by the sound of a mammoth crying out in fear. You see a mammoth rise on its hind legs and one of the animal handlers jumping out of the way just in time. As he tries to get back on his feet he calls out: "Porcupine here! Someone come look!"

On the mammoth's raised left front leg you can see several quills embedded and on the ground below you can see an angry giant porcupine the size of a large dog that's been hiding in the tall grass. It's hisses at the mammoths and the handlers.

Atticus moves forward carefully, heading to the area that the handler pointed at. Raising his shield, Atticus brings his sword into position...just in case it's needed.

Koram and Haitith look suddenly towards the horrendous sound then spring to go check it out.

Taking in the situation he holds his hand up and calmly approaches the mammoth. "Calm now, fried. Calm."

The porcupine still hisses at Koram, but backs off ever so slightly. As you step closer you also notice it seems to protect three small porcupine cubs.

Taking in the situation, Koram understands the smaller animal trying to protect its young. 'I'm going to regret this,' he thinks and places himself between him and the porcupine prickle*. "Go on now," he says, waving his hands towards them to shoo them away, "You won't be safe here."

TIL - a group of porcupines is called a 'prickle'

Together you are able to calm the animals, allowing the other animals hanlders to move the mammoths out of the way.

"It has a burrow there, so we'll just have to maneuver around it now that we know," Imek tells you once the situation is under control. "Good work by the way. Seems I taught you well."

Oh yes you really had a great... influence on us Igbork says with a sly smile on his face.
He resists the temptation to pat her on the head.
Well I think we should talk to Wipa about what happened. I fear that trouble is coming to us...

Wipa
You bid your goodbyes to Imek and the other animal handlers and make your way into camp. You find Wipa overseeing the fletchers. She smiles at you as you arrive, then seeing that you bear the signs of battle it turn to a frown. "Godess! What happened to you?"
Aug 21, 2022 11:47 am
"Hunters from another Following, Wipa," Koram explains, "There was an argument and they became violent - we defended ourselves and laid them to rest respectfully, but we wanted to make sure you and other Mammoth Lords knew. There very well may be more nearby, and if these hunters are any representative of their group, they are not so keen to be friendly as us."

Wipa sighs at the news. "That's not good. Keep your eyes open," she tells you.

"In a couple of days we will have the Night of the Green Moon," she continues. "Then we move on to the north. I will speak with the elders and try to start the journey as soon as possible after the ceremony."

Igbork yawns and stretches.
Then we only have to clear the ritual site. Let's do that tomorrow. We had another hard day and my family will be happy to see me before I go to sleep.

Wipa nods at you. "Rest well. By the sound of it you have deserved it," she smiles and bids you a good night.
OOC:
Will move the game on to next day tomorrow unless anyone has any business they want to take care of.
