"I can't stay like this forever," William says.

John grabs the sturdy walking stick, opens the door, and heads back to the room of living nightmares. He might not be able to kill that...thing with a walking stick, but maybe he'd be able to crush its throat to prevent it from making any more noise.

"John, we can batter it, but we have to be out of here soon," William says. "Isn't there a way we could turn him off, or tie him up so we could be out of here and avoid trouble?"

After what seemed like an eternity, Humphrey's vision returns. The bookseller is thankful to be able to see again even though the scene in the room is grisly beyond comprehension. For some reason, perhaps it is because of his profession, or maybe it's just a way to avoid dealing with the monster in the room, Humphrey remembers the occult books on the shelf in the other room. Maybe, there are answers in those books. he thinks.

Still yelling Edith punches the thing again in the face.

John breathes heavily, more from stress and tension than from physical exertion. "Did we kill it?"

"Would taking it's pulse be worth it?" William asks somewhat sarcastically. "I mean, it's fucking face fell off. It should have been dead already. What the hell just happened? Does anyone have the slightest idea?"

Humphrey emerges from the bedroom with a handful of books in one arm and a revolver in his other hand. He is clearly shaken and tries desperately to avert his gaze from the body.

"I don’t know… this is impossible. I think that we might find some answers or at least clues as to what he was doing before his death in these books. He was very curious about the occult and specifically this book about dreams. I came to retrieve them for another interested customer but now I’m not so sure if I should part with them." Humphrey looks at Edith who has blood and viscera covering her hands and arms
"But, we have a more immediate problem. The police are on their way and what used to look like a suicide now looks like a murder scene. No one in will believe a story about the dead coming back to life. If we don’t figure something out , we’re all going to be spending the rest of our lives in the clink. I guess we can’t burn this place down? I guess we need to run and hide out somewhere?"

"Running will just make us look more guilty. If we all tell the same story, and the police see all of this...evil occult paraphernalia, I doubt we would be held responsible." Nevertheless, John wipes the walking cane clean of any evidence and returns it to Mrs. Madeira.

John opens the door. "Did you bring a priest with you?" he asks looking at the police on the doorstep.
