I believe Vergil were about to discuss payment. Vergil, what's your offer fir the test as you call it?
OOC:
Keksus not interested in a coin. He us actually trying to get some insight into wizard's motive . Do he really need the tome? For me as player it sounds like a fake task designedto test the party. Is that what it is ? Is Keks able to understand that?
Aug 6, 2022 4:14 pm
"Yes, I think that this sounds agreeable. I shall pay you each, say, 50 gold pieces up front to retain your services and then we shall discuss more rewards after the task is done? I do however understand that one of you is not interested in material wealth, so perhaps we should discuss an alternative to me just handing you gold - unless you’ll still take that to hold you to the job."
OOC:
Keks can make an insight check if you’d like to ascertain more information on all that stuff.
Aug 6, 2022 5:03 pm
I'm good. I prefer people to owe me.
Keks thinks I am able to collect the debt. .
I am good to go
OOC:
Keks would only ensure team get a reasonably precise direction toward the keep and will eagerly start the journey
Aug 6, 2022 6:54 pm
I believe 50 gold coin is reasonable. He looks to the others. If this is good then we shall be leaving soon.
Aug 7, 2022 10:02 am
I am amenable. Thank you, kind Vergil. We must be off.
Aug 7, 2022 10:17 pm
Vergil nods his head and pulls out a coin purse. He counts out the hundred gold - fifty for both Flame and Dagen - before providing more precise directions to the ruins of the keep.

"Good luck on your journey. Think about what rewards you may enjoy for your services while you’re out." He smiles.
Aug 8, 2022 5:41 am
Keks note where Vergil keeps his coin purse. See you! he smiles back and silently leaves.
OOC:
Keks has very good idea about the reward, but just as he Vergil is testing them he is testing Vergil. He will not share the reason he were so desperate to become wizard's minion before learning more about the wizard. So far Vergil has been less than willing to share anything about his motives. Keks hops this will change when they will have the tome

Ok, so we’re all heading out then? If that’s the case, I’ll just get everyone to quick roll perception checks in case of any encounters.

Perception checks. Flame makes sure of necessary provisions. Flame has average perception (5).

Rolls

Perception Check - (1d20+0)

(5) = 5

OOC:
Since this is first use of feature in the game I would like to explain and agree with DM on how I will be rolling that
[ +- ] Psi-Bolstered Knack
I assume I roll skill check as usual and roll psionic die separately. Then DM tells if that additional 1d6 turned failure into success - in that case I will mark one die expanded in my character sheet.
Alternatively I could simply roll 1d20+1d6+modifier and DM will need to do the reverse math in case of success.

Rolls

Perception check - (1d20+5)

(1) + 5 = 6

Perception check - Psi-Bolstered Knack - (1d6)

(6) = 6

Percepting

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+1)

(13) + 1 = 14

OOC:
Yep I think that makes sense Keks. Just keep rolling like that and I’ll let you know if you turned a fail into a success/if you’ll need to expend a use of the feature. Also, I’m on a road trip so apologies if there’s any weird formatting since I have to use my phone.

Encounter Rolls

OOC:
The first two days of travel will go smoothly, with an encounter on the third. Is there any role playing you would like to do prior to the encounter or would you all rather just jump to that?
Aug 10, 2022 6:21 pm
Flame is ready to kill!
Aug 10, 2022 7:31 pm
Keks feel uncomfortable in the desert. He is used to hide in caves by day and travel by night. He talks as little as required to get group moving.
OOC:
I am ready to fight and leave party talking to the moment we get into the keep: both because we would have a subject to discuss one know how it looks like inside and because we hate 2 out or 3 PCs kobolds who should feel more comfortable indoors.
Aug 10, 2022 9:58 pm
OOC:
Alright in that case I’ll just push forward into the encounter! Also, Keks will need to mark off one of his psionic dice since he used it to pass the check.
The travel through the desert dunes over the past two days has been hot and harsh, with sandstorms threatening to appear at any moment. Your destination is, supposedly, not much farther away - perhaps only a few hours. However, through the shimmering haze of heat and the dancing clouds of dust, Dagen and Keks notice four hunched humanoid forms - clearly attempting and failing to hide in the rolling sand clouds.

They are approximately 100 feet away, in a dip between dunes. You stand at the top of a large dune overlooking the group of four but can make out no more information on who they are or what they have due to the clouds of dust. What do you do?
Aug 10, 2022 10:14 pm
Dagen will send his familiar ahead and tell the two companions, "Let me send my familiar ahead to see what’s going on."

He sends Shanks forward, and then let’s his senses fade into those of his familiar.
OOC:
What weapons are they holding, and what kind(s) of humanoid creatures are they?
Aug 10, 2022 10:31 pm
As your senses become one with those of your familiar, you see through the clouds of dust. The creatures are brown dragonborn. All four wear studded leather armor and have shortswords in hand. In addition, they each have three javelins stowed as well.
OOC:
Let me know if there’s any other information you’d want on what they have/are. Depending on what it is though I might have your familiar (or you, I’m unsure how it works exactly) roll perception due to the dust cloud though.

Inspector Flame, One of a kind. After traveling with Flame, he seems studious, insensitive and harsh. As well as borderline violent. He considered himself as a bit of an athlete and is a man looking for gold. You judge he probably doesn't have very many friends, but rather good for the ones he has.

Your quite sure that he really doesn't like being outside the city. He just survives elsewhere. Although he can see in the dark doesn't make him a fan of being underground either. He doesn't like the brightness of light. He is an indoors man.

He is in fact with papers an inspector. Claims to have done that for years. He doesn't talk much about that. He does have cards and dice with him and is an easy mark to game.

He always wearing his chain armor and favors his rapier which is fallowed up with handaxes. You know besides obviously being a warrior type that surprisingly that he can cast magic as well. He likes magic missile.

OOC:
Rolling with advantage for my familiar.

His skill is listed at the bottom of Dagen’s character sheet.
