Main Adventure RP

You are adventurers of some sort. You have done things that normal people would not dare to do. Things that have earned you a reputation of some sort. But well, adventurers need their rest too and adventures do come to an end.

And so your group is slowly heading home. Back to Yeonido, your home town. Although you haven't seen it in a year anymore as you've always been out and about. Slaying monsters, helping innocents, collecting treasure, or just do whatever you have been doing in your adventuring life.

The idea of returning home is a good thing though. A little break from dungeons you might have explored and dragons you might have killed.

You are almost there. The morning sun on this nice springday makes the journey quiet pleasant even. Just a good two hours longer to travel. You made it in time for the Dan-Nal Festival. Every spring, the people of Yeonido gather to encourage a bountiful harvest during the weeklong festival. And if you push on a little longer, you might even make it in time for lunch.

What are your companions seeing when they look at you? How do you look? How do you act at the thought of returning to Yeonido?

Upon catching his first glimpse of Yeonido, Xerxes looked himself over. He was, what other adventurers sometimes referred to as, "road worn." He only had two extra set of clothes remaining besides the one he was wearing, and only one of the wrinkled spares didn’t have blood all over it. It was hard for him to upset at Xestria for it, though. She got so excited after a kill she’d run up to him, filthy with gore, and embrace him.

"Lucky thing I acquired this hat." He uttered a phrase he knew well—a scattering of syllabic hisses from some archaic, lost language—and he appeared as himself, but his clothes clean and restored. "I’d rather die than be seen like this in Yeonido."

Sokra chirped at him in protest.

Xerxes reached up to scratch her underbelly. "Sorry, dear Sokra. It only works for me."

Normally the pseudodragon’s scales were shimmering blue and mother of pearl white, but now she was covered in dried blood, dust, and muck. This was also Sokra’s handiwork, but in a somewhat less affectionate way than it had been with him. "Why not scout ahead and find a fountain or pond to bath in?"

She chirpped again and made a wiff-wiff sound, which the whole party had come to recognize as the pseudodragon version of a snort or chortle.

Xerxes shrugged. "I could just return you to The Feywild, and summon you clean when I’ve the time…"

Sokra took to the air at that, climbing up and up until she looked like some tiny, strange bird of prey.

Xestria dragged her feet a bit as the party approached Yeonido. Not that she disliked the town - it would be nice to have a proper bath and to find a new conquest to bed. But home was always so boring. The elf, a female duplicate of her twin brother Xerxes, was slender with pale skin and silver highlighted white hair. Her eyes shone with a zeal and passion for sucking the marrow out of life. Her clothes were simple and as minimal as possible to show off just a little more skin than was appropriate. She was well proportioned and lithe with well-trained muscles. Across her back, Xestria carried a massive war hammer which she called Rai, which mean "Thunder".

"Xerxes, stop fussing about your clothes, you look fabulous as always."

"Aigoo," Yong sighs, leaning wearily on his quarterstaff. "Don't you two ever stop chattering?!"

The old dragonborn is only teasing. At any rate, the companions always did take his scolding in stride, as one does with a favorite, if constantly inebriated, uncle.

Yong scratches an armpit, shedding more than a few dull brass scales. The front of his tattered shirt is held loose by a cloth belt to make way for the out-thrust pot belly, under which dangles an oft-used wine gourd.

"Ah, finally home! I don't know why I ever let you youngsters drag these old bones all over the countryside in the first place!"
'Aigoo' = 'My goodness!', 'Geez!'

"Those two are just the excitable types, Yong," chuckled Yeou-Ji. If home wasn't so close, Yeou-JI probably would have said something much more irritable. But the comfort knowing that their adventuring is just about over put him in good spirits.

Yeou-Ji looks fondly over to Kim. His family disapproved of his pining for her. She being from House Aurum made them dislike Kim. Her leaving for another House made them have disdain for her. Yeou-Ji, however, doesn't think she knows how he feels for her. It was a distraction he had to keep pushing from his mind during their adventuring.

The dragonborn says to her, "This was a, uh..." He pauses, completely forgetting what he was going to say... then recovers, "I really wish there was a hot spring on our way back Yeonido."

"Dammit, thats the worst thing to say! What are you doing she's going to think you're some creep!" he scolds himself, biting his tongue with his sharp teeth.

Ji-Eun, in fact, knows exactly how he feels about her. While he's kind to her she's not sure how to show her lack of romantic interest. Smiling she swiftly responds, "Living with love is happy, but living for love is foolish, Yeou-Ji. Let's check in with our families and see where our break takes us."

Ji-Eun has dark skin with pieces of golden armor scattered across her body with a thin layer of breathable clothing underneath. The openings in her outfit give a glimpse of her skin and show scattered patterns of gold decorating the surface. Her warm honey eyes glance back towards the approaching town. "It's been a while since we've returned home. Perhaps some time has let my family forgive me for my crimes." She smirks to herself before pressing on.

You aren't just adventurers it seems. But a complex bunch of people. Family, elderly dragonborns, difficult love lives, as you walk through the farmlands that surround the city.

The walk is comfortable. And eventually the curving walls of the city of Yeonido come into view. Atop the walls, tall, colorful flags and ribbons flutter from poles. Traders, guards, and workers come and go through a grand gate, passing from the surrounding farmlands into the maze of graceful structures beyond.

As you watch, a pale mist rises from within the city. It drifts through the gates and breaks over the walls as if the entire city were exhaling one great breath. Mist is quite uncommon in the city. And a pale mistbank like this, you can't really recall seeing it before.
Aug 5, 2022 11:40 pm
Xerxes looks curiously towards the city, pointing at it. "Is there some kind of mummery or festival going on? What is that mist?"

[OOC: Xerxes reaches out to Sokra to see through her eyes from above. She's within 100 feet of him looking over the city. Once we are within 30 feet of the mist, Xerxes will use Eldritch Sight to Detect Magic.]

Yong chuckles inwardly at Yeou-Ji's awkwardness around Ji-Eun. The old monk pats the younger dragonborn's shoulder paternally.

Underneath the drunkenness and the constantly beffudled mien, Yong's twinkling eyes hint at an uncommon wisdom and a complex past. No doubt, this enigma was what sparked rumors that he is no simple drunkard and beggar.

As the group enters the city and encounters the strange mist, Yong picked his teeth with a grimy claw.

"Are you telling me you all see it too? This isn't just the fog in my brain?"
Aug 6, 2022 4:21 am
Xestria looked at Yong, chuckling at his commentary on age. She gave a knowing glance and a smirk to Xerxes at that.

Looking to the mist, her face brightened. No longer dreading the mundane city life, she saw the opportunity for some excitement.

"What do you think it is, dear brother?"
Aug 6, 2022 12:37 pm
Yong patting him on the shoulder made him feel a little bit better from his awkward interaction with Kim. "I'm sure a fellow dragonborn knows where I'm coming from when it comes to things like this," Yeou-Ji says to himself.

The heavy, pale mist sweeping through the city made his concerns switch to something else personal... but of personal duty: gwishin. The mist seemed very ghastly to him. It was not always a sign of gwishin activity but the thick paleness made him think of such things. It was his duty to his village to help seek out and put to rest these apparitions, but recently they have been showing themselves more frequently than ever.

Yeou-Ji looks up to Sokra then down to Xerxes. He mutters to himself, "I hope this is nothing..."

The fog is real. It is not just in Yong's brain (although his mind might be adding more to it than the actually is...)

Sokra flaps her little dragon wings and soars to the skies. Through her, Xerxes can see that the fog is in a small area around the city gate. There are people running out of the fog. Some of them seem bloodied. A young man is helping a bloodied old man out. A city guard lies dead on the ground at the egde of the fog.

As you get closer, and in range, Xerxes casts his detect magic. The fog certainly gives a magical glow from the school of enchantment.

OOC:
@slogworx : not sure, can you cast detect magic through Sokra? Just to get the picture a bit more who is seeing what
Aug 6, 2022 3:57 pm
[OOC: They would be separate things. Sokra gives the overhead view, but I would break off the connection once I get within 30 feet of the fog to concentrate on the detect magic.]

Xerxes' eyes go glassy for a few moments as he closes in on the fog, and then soften again as he breaks the connection with Sokra. "Of course, coming home couldn't be easy, could it?" He grins, and holds his sister by the arm to prevent her from running full tilt into the fog. "There's magic about, my friends!" he says in warning. "I believe the appropriate idiom would be 'gird your loins!'"

Xestria embraces her brother and gives him a deep kiss, lingering just a bit much given the current situation.

"Brother, not now! There’s excitement afoot."

She breaks free of his grip and runs headlong towards the mist, hammer in hand.
Aug 6, 2022 6:08 pm
"We're just running right into it, are we? Well, we can't let our Xestria go alone, can we?"

Yong takes a swig of his wine before hurrying after the impetuous elf.
OOC:
The wounded folk and the dead guard, what sort of wounds do they bear?

OOC:
To speed up the posts at times, instead of calling for a perception check or so, I take the liberty of just rolling it :) That keeps the speed on posting. Of course you are always free to roll any ability check you think is necessary when you ask a question like this.
OOC:
10...
The injuries seem weird.
One would guess a creature would have bitten or clawed upon them. But there is something not quite right about those wounds.
You have seen injuries from regular monsters, but these seem somewhat different.

Yong 용: Perception - (1d20+4)

Xerxes watches his sister rush into the mist, and presses his forehead to his palm and sighs "She'll be the death of me." He looks around to the others. "Likely she'll be the death to all of you, as well..."

Reluctantly, he follows behind her.

[OOC: Detect magic is still up, can I orient on the source of the enchantment?]

OOC:
With any hint of the mist causing the surrounding area to become darker, I'd like to cast Light on my shield. Otherwise I'll proceed with everyone else.
"We'll have to come back and treat the wounded. For now let's try to figure out what the source of this mist is."

Ji-Eun cautiously enters the mist trailing slightly behind Yong.
Aug 6, 2022 11:19 pm
As Xestria rushes in, she specifically looks around for enemies or a source for the mists.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+6)

Yeou-Ji draws his longsword and readies his shield, casting Light on it. He approaches Kim Ji-Eun so his back meets hers. "I will take your six," he says. "These are the perfect conditions for an ambush."
OOC:
I'm going to also cast Light on my shield, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for any positions we could be jumped from (crates, rooftops, etc).

Also, do I have to "cast" Aura of Protection, or is that something that's always "turned on"/passive?

Rolls

Perception for ambush spots. - (1d20-1)
