Chadoula
The woman gulps the water down, losing at least half of it down her chin, but she's able to talk afterwards, a little better. Her voice is still raspy and breaks as she speaks. "I am Chadoula, I have no idea how long I have been here. Time drags so slowly when the doors close... But seeing as you are neither giant nor drow, I suspect that I have been here far longer than I think."

Chadoula sounds like a name Astrid has heard before in stories, but just where? She can't put her finger on it.
Dec 15, 2023 11:45 pm
"Considering you speak the modern tongue of Galifar, not that long. A thousand years at most." S'sylin quickly put together.
"But perhaps you can introduce yourself, and we can fill in any gaps.."
Dec 16, 2023 12:39 am
"Do you not eat?" Verin blurts out. "How have you been chained down here without food?"

"Am I? Perhaps I am. I can hardly tell any longer. Unfortunately, I really cannot tell you more than I have. Other than that there is some sort of magic in this place that makes it hard to tell how much time has passed. I beg you, do not let the doors close behind you, or you will become stuck in here too." She pauses at the mention of food. "I have eaten recently... or what seems like recently. I suppose I am not sure."
OOC:
Full disclosure: I wasn't really thinking about language drift when I set this up.

OOC:
Always annoying, those savvy players... The reason I know is because I read up about the Giant language, found it was used in Xen'drik, and that there's an old common and modern common.
S'sylin turned to look at the room and the inside of the doors.
"I see... Some magical prison that preserves and befuddles... Quite ingenious."
The Dark One's attention returned to the prisoner.
"But why would they go through all the trouble? What makes you so special, hmm?

Are you by anychange familiar with Aeren?
Phaenai has a growing hope that this woman can tell her something about the founder of the Undying Court
Dec 28, 2023 1:18 pm
Well? If you want us to release you, you must espect us to know that we are releasing. Otherwise, we can just close this door again.
Dec 29, 2023 11:07 pm
"I was made a prisoner years ago. Everything has happened so many times, and so long ago... Or was it yesterday? It all seems so... fuzzy...."

She snaps to a sudden clarity though at the mention of Aeren, however. "That name! I know that name. I'll rip her heart out! She's the one who imprisoned me here! Let me out of these chains!"

She lets out a roar so great that it nearly deafens you. The entire stone room shakes, plaster and stone dust fall from the ceiling, and a chunk of the frame above the door crashes to the ground. And slowly, unbelievably, the heavy metal chains that bind her in place begin to fracture.

OOC:
DC 15 CON check to not be deafened.

Whoever she is - and you should have some inkling now if you're really great at history or know the setting well OOC - she's clearly more than you can handle at the moment. What to do with her though? Control her or flee and hope she goes back to sleep? Or gather support and come back at some point in the future. Either way, this is a major find.

BY THE DRAGONS, WHAT WAS THAT?

Whatever it was, S'sylin didn't want anything to do with it. His ears were ringing so he could hardly form words. Instead he grabbed his companions and pulled them along to get out of the room. Better to live another day than to meddle with ancient things giants kept on chains!

Shit!
Astrid scampers out and helps S'sylin close the door.

She has studied the Undying Court and the The Flight of Slaves. This woman is perhaps one who is left behind? She is pretty sure that she have read about someone, but she is not sure.
What is is sure of, is that once she has her hearing back, she will try and contact the Undying Court and inform them of this mess they have left behind.
OOC:
As a Undying Court nerd I gave myself advantage on the history roll. Feel free to ignore it

That's not good...

Suddenly deafened, Verin stumbles backwards but doesn't resist when her Dragonborn classmate grabs her and pulls her from the room. As the others close the doors, she scrunches her face as she wonders if the deafness is permanent.

OOC:
I'm not trying to railroad anything here, so I'm taking us back to the exit you found, but where you go from there is up to you.
The doors slam behind you, and the roar slows to a dull vibration under your feet, but it doesn't stop. Whatever enchantment is on this room, it seems as if it doesn't stop time entirely. While she was asleep - or at least while she wasn't motivated to do anything, she was more or less silent, but now she's awake, and that roar could last quite some time.

The subtle shudder vibrates under your feet. If she wasn't slowed down as much as she is, there would be stones fracturing. As it is, it will be a while before there's any discernable effect, but you're sure there will be one eventually. You're going to need some help to settle her down before she becomes a problem.

You're also going to need to find those trogs. Fortunately, you're pretty sure you already found another way out. You head back to the room where you found the two kobold corpses, and carefully make your way down the dark hallway. It leads gradually upwards until it splits into two paths. One curves northward and carries the musty smell of stagnant rainwater. The other tunnel heads back down and the smell that wafts up from it is the unmistakable smell of troglodyte.

OOC:
remind me, why do we need to find those trogs?
Jan 9, 2024 10:29 pm
OOC:
That was the original mission for our esteemed employers that led us to this place.
A dull throbbing announced a splitting headache in S'sylin's near future which soured the dark dragonborn's mood. What should have been a simple (if dirty) job led to all sorts of complications, and there was very little to show for it so far. In fact, trouble seemed to be on the horizon. Well, trouble for others to deal with as far as he was concerned. He would simply instruct his legion of minions to stay well clear of this place and that would be that. Someone else in Stormreach could deal with the geriatric elf's temper tantrum. All he wanted was a Troglodyte head and some peace and quiet to recover from the day's ordeals.
"Unless my nose has been permanently destroyed by this affair, I believe our quarry is ahead. Let's get this over and done with!"
Jan 11, 2024 5:22 pm
Yes! Get the goods and get out. Someone should come and talke some send into that relic. But not us
She shoulders her pack and loads her crossbow.
OOC:
I just noticed that I don't own a crossbow. She is all magical attacks and carries only a dagger. That is for unitily not for attack

"I'm all for being done with this," Verin agrees as she shifts, rapier in hand. She heads down the corridor, headlong into the stench, peering into the dark and determined to resolve things so she can take a hot bath.

"I feel as gross as this tunnel smells," she says to no one in particular, a brief shudder as she scrunches up her nose but resolutely forges onward.
Jan 12, 2024 8:48 pm
OOC:
The kobolds asked you to help out. Since they keep you in fairly good supply of minor gems that fund your living expenses, helping them out is usually a good idea. Though, that can change whenever you want it to.
You carefully pick your way through the tunnel, moving slowly and quietly, but it soon becomes apparent that you don't need to worry. The trogs have set up on a lower level from where the tunnel comes out - about thirty feet down - and are set up to defend the tunnels on the level that they're on. Those tunnels face in the direction of the tunnels you were originally in, so finding those hidden halls did serve one good purpose... It's given you a spot from where you can launch an ambush. Timing is going to be the thing. Right now, it looks as though most of the troglodytes - and you count 12, you think - are active. They're eating some sort of gruel, but they're not staying together in a group to do it. Now might be a good time, or you can wait to see if they settle down at some point.

What do you think? You're far enough above them that unless you raise your voices, your conversations will mingle in with the background noise of theirs.
Jan 12, 2024 10:57 pm
"That is a lot more of them than I signed up for..." S'sylin grumbled, clearly ready to turn around and forget about this sorry affair. He could get a head off one of the dead troglodytes they had found. That might fool their employers...

Astrid doent have any trixs or spells that can handle multiple targets. But her witchcraft might offer another idea. She conjures a spectral hand around her own and that hand moves away from their group. It gathers a handfull of slimy moss and floats high over one of the bigger troglodytes. As she dismisses the hand the slime falls right into the bigger troglodytes food bowl.
She aims to get them to fight each other.
