Jemma sits down. There is a grease stain on her sleeve that she is not aware of.
English friend?

Good morning Tara. Good news, I think we have a consultant job with the police, that will bring is some cash. Not that it should stop our other endeavours. Bad news, the job involves murder, fey and unknown occult shenanigans.

"And heartbreak," Tereza adds, leaning into her dramatic nature. She lifts her head off Caroline's shoulder.

"But with the case, we can't forget our festival," she reminds the coven. "I was planning to meet Alina and the others later to recruit them for helping with preparations."

The witch stiffens for a brief moment as Tereza's head touches her shoulder, before relaxing a bring her other hand up to gently brush at her hair in a comforting manner.

'I' m sorry.. Guess we should have thought before introducing someone to.. Us I guess. Next time how about you borrow AL. I know nothing about dating girls but we are meant to like cute things... She tries to keep a light tone.

'... I have some notes about the ritual but those can come later. Like you're meant to have the stronger witches next to the one leading. ' She teases before waving as the others arrive.

'The.. Person attacking our victims was British. It was in my text to watch out for. No opening doors to British scents till we' ve got him. She uses her spare herm to tug her notes over to start showing them off.

I have a lot actually. The Manor mentions is on my side of the pond, but our likely culprit immigrated here in the 1600s. Does this face look familiar. She holds up the sketch she'd found to those at the ritual, before filling everyone in on her research from last night.

"I could have done that. But then I would not have gotten to hold hands of Sweeney and your brother," Tereza replies with a playful smile. "But I get your meaning. Next time, you want to hold my hand. I will remember."

She looks over the picture Caroline is showing them. "He looks like our killer, does he not? Only, more human. And with the less impressive..." She gestures to her upper lip, searching for the word. "Mustache."

Tara Hensley
Tara hears mention of the 'festival' and 'recruitment' and perks up. "Ah, so you all didn't forget, despite your long nights. I crunched some numbers, and we can float it on credit, until we get paid by the chief of course, and then hopefully turn a profit." She pulls out Witch Craft's Amex and hands it over to Tereza.

She then studies the notes, with everyone else. "I don't get it. What's this have to do with the Fae?" She takes her glasses off, and wipes them on her cardigan. "We'll, good thing Salem is full of tomes of forbidden knowledge and secret histories, if you know where to look--and we do."

She ticks off on her fingers--"The library, historical society, book and curio dealers, the Salem museum..." she stops. "I'm sure we can find more information on this guy at one of those places, and maybe how to stop him."

"Any thoughts," she asks, looking each coven member in the eye, one at a time.
OOC:
Throw ideas, theories, whatever out for sure, and how ya'll think you should proceed--in the next couple posts. I'm sensing two scenes coming up here. Ultimately, let's leave the primary investigation location to Sarah ( @WhtKnt ), while whomever would like to gets to working on party efforts.

Tereza gets an odd looks at the mentioning of hiding hands with Deacon, that rapidly turns into to a slightly flustered one at the mention of Caroline wanting to hold hands. 'That's not... It just makes sense.. I mena to make sure a ritual yields the best it can to have the proper arrangement.. Nothing to do with wanting to hold hands with certain people.' The protest gives way to quiet grumbles as the information is picked for through.

There was something off about Tara. She hadn't directly answered Caroline's questions and it was almost light she was trying to hint at some with mention of long nights... Caroline almost swears out loud as tee realisation That Tara hadn't been with them last night clicks. That might explained th passive agresivness. She would need to try and pull her aside at some point... They had to focus on the case for now though.

'Well, it could be he made a deal with fae for magic? Or.. Well it was the sap that's fae right? From the exploded tree. If we think he came out of that... Perhaps he was imprisoned or trapped by fae

"Well, then I'm off to the library, and maybe a few of the bookstores in the area. I'll be back later to report on what I find." Sarah takes her leave of the brewery. The walk to the library is a short one and the chill in the morning air serves to invigorate her. She hadn't slept well, remembering with all-too-much clarity the details of the ritual. She stepped into the library and proceeded to the card catalog, starting her research with fey folk.

Tereza takes the credit card and playfully fans herself with it. "Ah, finally, I will be able to buy nice dress for myself," she says, grinning at Tara's reaction.

She then nods at Sarah and Caroline. "I do not know much about Fae, I'm afraid. So you best do research while I get us help for our festival. Anyone want to come with me to meet nice group of Slavic boys and girls?" She looks at their bookkeeper, who seems the most invested in the festival over the investigation. "Tara?"

I'm happy to start us off on another scene as well. Would just be good to know first if anyone (and who) is coming with

Camera shifts to Tara's face, when Tereza asks who's joining her...

Tara Hensley
She sighs. "I guess I will join you," she says.

Her gaze shifts to the others--Caroline, Jemma and Deacon: "What about you three?"
OOC:
Where ever Jemma is headin' just let us know, and Yeah Tereza can go ahead and set the scene for their recruitment. Let's say Caroline's "pulling aside" of Tara happens en route.
🌙
Framing shot of the Salem Public Library, it's massive stone steps covered in slush. Cut to a dimly light private study room, deep in the libraries stacks...

Wesley Webster
A *thwap* precipitates a shot of Sarah with Wesley behind her having just closed a large book.

"I've searched through town records, and I do find a record of a Lawrence Braddock arriving in 1675, and there is mention of his hiring laborers and buying supply to construct a rather lavish manor on the outskirts of the colony..."

Wesley pushes his glasses up his nose. "But that's where official records stop." He moves to the table and sits down. "Remember, the more specific you are in your search the more likely it'll be that you find interesting information--perhaps looking into specific clues you've already found. That's just the opinion of a professional librarian," he says.
OOC:
Gave you a +1 on the Research roll as Wesley would help with that, giving you a 4, and thus success--what he has told you is what you've learned from your basic Research roll. The more leading folks are with clues or ideas they have the more bonus to the roll we can apply after the fact!

But as to your Occult roll...
...your occult research into fey, tales surrounding them, and their origins turns up some interesting results. While you do come across several mentions of mortals making deals with fey for powers, there is a more particularly interesting bit of lore you find in a large dusty tome:

Sometimes, a mortal child who has been taken from their parents by a fey creature will return to their mortal life to confront the changeling who has been left in their place. After a battle of arcane wits and skill, the returned mortal desanguinates the changeling, taking their lifeforce and power into themselves. The changeling is left as a withered husk "...like the exposed roots of a plant..."

Such mortals are often recognized by the fey talisman they carry with them, gifts taken from the fairy house where they were raised. They often make powerful witches.

Famous occultist Catherine Erwin writes of a rare, but rumored weakness to such creatures: Sarah ( @WhtKnt ), what is that weakness you've found in your research?

"Well, there is no need to sound so excited about spending time with me," Tereza says to Tara in response to her less than enthusiastic reply. "I am offering, not forcing you to come."

- - -

Once everyone has figured out where they'll be heading, Tereza starts leading the way to whoever decides to come with her. She doesn't have a car, so she counts on Tara (if she is coming) to drive them. Otherwise, she'll call a taxi.

Either way, a quick camera cut and establishing shot of Salem State University later, the camera catches them walking down a university hallway in one of the less well maintained buildings. "Today is not official meeting but I sent Alina a text last night asking to meet," Tereza explains to her companions. "For asking if they will help us. Maybe she brought others."
She stops in front of a door. A quick camera cut to the sign next to it reveals that among other things, this room has a regular booking for the university's Slavic Society, with an 'A. Andreyeva' listed as the person responsible.

She knocks on the door and opens without waiting for an answer. "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, dámy a pánové," she greets anyone in the room as she ushers her companions inside. "I brought fresh meat and the offer of work in exchange for free beer."

'Well I know a little about the fey, and handling them.' Caroline's eyes flick over to Al up in the rafter, even as she rubs her right shoulder slightly, drifting off into thought for a moment before snapping back to it again.

'Though I do have my own books I can look at at home tonight, if we want to start hashing this festival out? ' Another long night or two would be fine surely. She could sleep when they got the guy and started getting money in.

As they start to go their separate ways she pull Tara aside to he office under pretense of 'collecting documents that might be need'

'You doing alright. I did not miss your...greeting this morning. ' She rubs the back of her hand with ne hand. 'Is this about last night?'

Tara Hensley
Back at the brewery, before heading out, Tara leans on the office desk, listening to Caroline. "Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cares if this place closes," she sighs.

"I mean, no offense, but what do you, your brother, or Tereza actually have to lose? You can just head home if it all goes to shit, and me and Jemma are stuck here. The ley line is in our blood." She looks at a picture on the wall, a grainy black and white one, of a group of women sitting around a long table.

She comes out of her reverie and grabs her keys from the desk.

Tara Hensley
"I'm sure this investigation is the 'right' thing to do, but I don't know, the cover is number one priority to me--and that means keeping this place afloat."

"Now, are you coming with us; because I'm gonna need to drive."
OOC:
What is Caroline's relationship to Tara? Why does she care how she's feeling?!

While at the university...

Andrej
"Pozdravy, Tereza," Andrej says from the ragged couch where he sits playing Nintendo Switch. "Alina! Tereza's here!"

Alina
Alina looks up from a computer at the back of the room. "No shit. I see that." She stands and walks over to her friend to greet her properly. "Sorry, it's just Andrej and me today," she says. "Finals are keeping everyone busy."

Andrej
"Tereza, when are you going to cast a spell on me? Fuck," he shouts as Mario passes his cart by, taking the lead.

Alina
Alina shakes her head at Andrej, an indicator to ignore him. "So what exactly do you need," she asks Tereza, and any others who are there.
Feb 16, 2023 5:50 pm
Tereza hugs Alina and kisses her cheek for a greeting, then turns to Andrej. "What spell do you need, big boy?" she asks, dropping down sideways on the couch next to him and throwing her legs over his. "To make you not suck at video games? That is beyond any power in this world." Andrej replies something to her in Russian and both laugh at it for a second.

She then leans back and gestures to her companions, introducing them quickly before saying. "Tara can explain best what we need, I think. Beyond being a total snack, she is also head honcho of our brewery. We are throwing a big festival at the full moon. It is secret. Do not tell anyone."
She then turns her head to her covenmates and stage-whispers, "This is best way to get them to tell everyone."

Then, addressing the Slavic Society again, she explains, "It is mostly decorations. Brewery is still decked out for Christmas." She adds a sentence in Russian, making her student friends laugh while leaving her covenmates in the dark.

Jemma have been working in the brewery to produce beer that they could sell. In the afternoon she visit her contact "Hill-billy-Bob" to make her some custom shotgun shells with steel shavings that she got from the smiths lathe.

Hill-Billy-Bob
There you go girly. As requested... Bob eagerly eyes the pack of witches brew that Jemma have brought him. I done stuffed as many shavings into a shell as I could - and a nail. They will cut a pig and leave lots of iron snapnells in the wound, but they will not stop one. Not even at close range. Why do you wann'em?

Jemma takes the box of shotgun shells. I'm trying to prove a point to my friend. She is of the "every-tool-is-a-hammer" persuasion.
Hill-Billy-Bob nods sagely. Well, that is serenely different I'll give you that. Now I'll go enjoy a fresh girl-brew.

Oh by the way. Is your mamma home? I wanted to say hi and hear if she remembers some of the old stories from the town and woods. Edna, Bobs old mother, was an old friend of Jemma grandmother. But after her grandmother disapeared, Jemma haven't talked with her.
Feb 16, 2023 11:25 pm
Andrej
"I need a loooove spell. I want to be enchanted Tess!"

Alina
"Ew. That'd be a curse."

🌒
Tereza explains the plan.

Tara Hensley
Tara looks back and forth between Tereza and the Slavic Society, her jaw visually clenching when she hears the laughing.

She clears her throat. "O.K., yeah so like Tereza said: redecorating will be a big part of it." She opens her binder and takes out a stack of purple paper. "Aannnnd, hand out these fliers. Oh, and see if you can get us someone to do a pop-up kitchen for us. Thanks so much."

Tara hands a flier to Tereza with a look that says 'I know you didn't think you'd get off without doing leg work.'

In an old colonial home near the woods --

The camera shifts to an old woman standing at a gas range, waiting for a kettle to boil. The warped floor creaks under Jemma's tread as she enters.

'Mamma'
"I'm tryin' to get 'im to cut back on the beer," she says in a thick New England accent. Still, she turns and smiles. "Hello Jemma. Long time."

'No I can't' The words burst out of Caroline quick and sharp at the suggestion she can just go home before she can stop herself. Theres a dtodd look in a her eyes, determination but then the briefest flash of fear before she raises a hand t pinch the bridge of her nose and sigh, shaking her head.

'I'm sorry. That outburst.. look I care about the brewery. A lot. And you, Jemma, everyone else. Otherwise I'd have gone back a long time ago. It's just.. admitting that we are in trouble.. I.. ' She hesitates not at all sure how to explain. 'I grew up with failure not being an option.. so we'll just have to get out of it. We've got the consulting fee at least.. ' She carefully raises a hand to place it on Tara's shoulder. She wasn't as close with the bookkeeper as she was Tereza and Jemma, but she had definitely seen Caroline at worse moments than the others, when trying not to react badly to a bad months numbers, or insisting on going through the books again in case there was a mistake.

' I never mean to seem like I didn;t care I just.. I can't accept the idea we lose he brewery as an option. ...Anyway we should go meet these friends of T's. See what we can do.

-------

As the others chat about plans Caroline sits to the side, trying to look interested and not doze off. Despite her words about the brewery being important her mind keeps drifting back to the scene in the woods, and the victims. If only she could figure out a duplication spell or similar, be in too places at once.
Feb 17, 2023 6:49 am
Tereza takes the fliers from Tara and then immediately turns to Andrej. Her legs still crossed over his, she places a hand on his chest. "Andrej, miláček, if you truly love me, you will hand out this stack of fliers in addition to yours, no?" She leans her head on Andrej's shoulder. "We do not need love spell if we have each other and we support each other."

Alina Andreyeva
Alina rolls her eyes and leans towards Tara and Caroline with a sigh. "Does Tereza act like that around everyone or just us?"
