The elf drops his coin purse, which has 25 gold pieces in it. Begrudgingly, he removes his bracers, all the while staring down Kleber. He then throws them to the half orc’s feet. This time in common, the elf says to the archer, "One day, I will be back for those."

The guards quickly tie up the wrists of the two elves and begin making their way back to New Cyre. The remaining guard quickly gestures for you to follow him. You continue on the main path for a short while, then break off onto a more discreet trail into the forest. After what you feel is about a mile, you come to a small clearing where are you find the Zarantyr’s Light and Captain Vren waiting at the bottom of the ladder.

[ +- ] Captain Vren Syrania
The Zarantyr is a relatively small elemental airship. Her bright elemental ring is wispy and blue, unlike the purple, flickering electricity of your coach. Her hull is painted a deep blue, with trim of finely polished, golden soarwood.

Captain Syrania appears concerned at the state of your escort and comments he was expecting four guards. The guard wastes no time in prompting you to climb the ladder, "No time to explain. We lost one and may have been followed. Introductions can wait till you’re aboard." the guard says.

The captain nods in agreement and shakes the guard’s hand, thanking him. You climb aboard the airship, where the captain quickly joins you and retracts the ladder. You watch the guard disappear back into the forest, as the captain gives orders to get underway.
OOC:
Could I get a group stealth check to see if you made it to the airship undetected? DC 12 since the assassin lost all of his elves.

OOC:
that captain has a messed up face, he has some odd luck look like that and not be dead, blind, or missing an ear

It’s close. I’ll wait for Malbor, but I will need a 19 or higher for success

Two half elves disappear below deck and a third takes a position of watch at the ballista on the stern. Captain Syrania takes the helm and releases a lever and the elemental ring glows brightly with the sound of a whipping wind. He grips the large wheel with one hand and the lever with the other. There’s an intense look of concentration on the half-elf’s scarred face as the airship begins to climb out of the trees. The captain keeps the airship just clear of the treetops as he turns the ship south into the Seawall Mountains.

The airship accelerates quickly, but smoothly staying close to the tree tops. You feel the cool mountain air rushing by quickly now. After a few minutes, you crest a ridge, the captain lowers into the valley and turns east. The valley slowly drops below the Zarantyr’s Light as it levels off and Captain Syrania finally gets a chance to greet you. "Apologies for the abrupt departure. Welcome aboard the Zarantyr’s Light. As I’m sure you’re aware, I am Captain Vren Syrania, but Vren is fine. There’s no need for formality, but I will cut to the chase. I was told we’re going into the Grey and near Salvation Outpost. Do we know our final destination? "

Earic shows the captain his map and points out the location of the Cyre’s wreck. "Very well. We shall leave the mountains shortly and travel to Lake Arul before entering the Mists there. It’s two days journey if we want to avoid attention. Make yourselves comfortable."

The airship has three decks and a crew of six, the captain, four half-elves and a gnome.

After meeting the Captain and crew, 37 will find an otherwise out of the way spot on the deck (with a view) and proceed to... stand.

He will chat with others, he will help with anything the crew needs extra hands for, and if a meeting is needed to plan what they'll do once they reach the wreck he'll participate.

However, if left to his own devices, he has no issues simply standing for two days.

Appologies. I am in Hawaii this week, moving from hotel to hotel.
Malbor tries to find a quiet place on the ship as far from the rest of the people as possible to give his mind a rest.
OOC:
I'd like to try to get a long rest asap if possible.

Vice will chat with the deck hands, asking what seems to be an endless line of question about their duties and life aboard the ship. Probably getting in the way, and maybe trying to help.

37 takes up a position on the starboard side of the bow’s ballista. From here, he watches the mountains pass by. Eventually, the peaks drop around you as you exit the mountains. 37 sees Breland’s southeastern-most city of Kennrun to his right as the captain steers the airship north.

Malbor is given accommodation below deck in the crew’s quarters are enjoys a well deserved rest.

Faeris
Vice spends the early part of the voyage with the young deck hand Faeris. He’s an energetic half-elf who happily explains the ins and outs of the majestic vessel.

The half elf speaks with reverence on the captain’s connection with the elemental ring that controls the ship’s flight. Vice learns only the captain and first mate have the mark of storm needed to pilot the Zarantyr.

He explains how Sloan the gnome keeps a close watch below deck on the Khyber crystal that binds the air elemental in place and forms the blue ring around the ship. He proudly shows the golden soarwood of the ship’s hull and how they ballast the vessel to keep it floating.

Then he shows off the Zarantyr’s ballistae, walking Vice through the process of priming and loading the large weapons. He talks about encounters with wyrms and other flying monsters and how vigilance is a must when travelling by air. "Would you like to give it a go?" Faeris asks gesturing to the weapon.
Jun 27, 2023 7:06 pm
Vice looks through the weapons aiming sight, but says "No thank you, I'm more interested in how it works, less interested in actually using it myself. I'm more inclined in attacking from the shadows, if I have to fight at all.

Capt. Syrania
The airship slows as it comes to a mountain pass. Off in the distance, Captain Vren points out a giant red dragon soaring through the mountain valley ahead. "It’s probably best if we find another route.", he says with a laugh. He swings the wheel to port and swiftly climbs over the mountain ridge.

https://i.imgur.com/3LTi3gh.jpg

Your ears pop at the sudden altitude change and for a few moments, you feel your breath being taken away. The airship’s great blue ring barely clears the jagged mountain top. Once clear on the other side, the Zarantyr dives back down to breathable air below. "It’s unfortunate…", the Captain says, "but this side of the mountains will add some time to our journey."

Rune
A few difficult hours later, the First Mate, Rune, appears on deck. Younger and less worn than the captain, he greets 37 and Vice before relieving the Captain. Those on deck realize, the airship must constantly be piloted by one with a Mark of Storm, or else the elemental does not propel the ship. "A bit of excitement. Eh, fellas?"
OOC:
Theres a few hours added to the trip for the delay. It will likely be the morning after next before you enter the Grey.
Jun 29, 2023 1:23 am
Throughout the entire trip, Kleber prefers to stay inside the cabin. Whenever he ventures to the ship's topside, he is always near some object he could clutch too.

As the first mate emerges, Kleber's hands are already tightly onto the handrails, though the tension in his knuckles has eased compared to when the ship's altitude first increased.

"Excitement really isn't lacking these last few days" He says, eyes firmly on the horizon, where he can't see the distance between the ship and the ground.

Gzizmix will rest, pray, and attune to the bracers that he keeps under his armor. He also occasionally accompanies Vice or stays below deck with Sloane and watch her work. Asking a bit about the ship and how it functions as well as how it is used.

Sloane

Sloane
Sloane is very friendly, but clearly an introvert that spends most of her time below deck with her gadgets and baubles. At first she is a little uncomfortable with someone in her space. However, as Gzizmix asks questions, you realize you’ve let something loose…

"Oh, here! Let me show you. You see this? This is the containment chamber.", she gestures to a deep blueish-purple crystal with light pulsating in its core. You watch as tendrils of blue energy flow out from the core, into a strange arcane device. The energy pours out of the matrix into the hull of the airship where it spreads like arteries deep into the soarwood. The same blue light flows back in the matrix in a never ceasing circulation of energy through the vessel.

"She’s the reason I’m here. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you, but we gnomes are the only ones that have mastered the magic of binding elementals to Khyber crystals. As far as airships go, this is a small crystal, but it holds her in place as designed. Then we have the Siberys crystal in the helm on the top deck. With the Captain’s storm mark, he can will the elemental to move the vessel as he wishes.",

She pats the matrix fondly and lowers her voice slightly, "Rune and her don’t get along quite as well yet.", she giggles quietly at the thought as she continues. "But, my job is down here, where I keep the crystal matrix safe and secure. What do you think? Have you ever been aboard an airship before?"
Jun 29, 2023 2:50 pm
Not an air ship, no. But I have used the rail of course and a carriage but those seem a bit simple compared to this. Gzixmix chuckles. I am curious though. I know most air ships have weapons but do they also have defensive measures? Are the Siberys crystals used to directly control or more influence the elemental? Does it have to be a single elemental or can they bind multiple smaller elementals like a team of horses? . . . Gzizmix is all to happy to see a fellow gnome working the mastery of arcane energies and will chat with her for a while.

While they talk he will touch on the teachings of Aureon as well as his own views of magic and the importance of mastering it properly without abusing its power. It is important to see how overs view the mastery of power. While some may seek to hoard the knowledge or use it to oppress others it is the engineers and arcane technicians who will continue to refine the techniques that will allow it to spread for the betterment of the world he thinks to himself.
