Story - Part 1 - The way to Icespire peak

Feb 1, 2023 9:43 pm
You are on your way to Icespire peak. As far as you know the first part of your journey will mostly consist of traveling down the road until it curves away from the mountain. Then you must find your way through the woods and the last obstacle before you reach the mountain will be a swamp surrounding it.

You departed Flowergrove in the morning. You tried to keep your plan a secret but as usual the village elders knew something was up and learned about your plans. They weren't happy with you going on this dangerous journey but seeing that you are fully committed to investigating the ruins they procured some basic gear for all of you as well as rations. There was a nice farewell ceremony and some tears were shed.

You traveled the whole day only interrupted by a short lunch break and it's afternoon now. So far your journey has been pretty uneventful. You left the fields that surround Flowergrove behind and instead the road is flanked by a forest that grows denser the further you travel

Just as you discuss where you'll rest in the evening you hear screams from further down the road.
You run forward and peek around the next curve of the road.
You see a Salimar in a bright blue robe sitting on a tree. The tree is surrounded by six boars that are grunting and digging at the roots of the tree.
A carriage that has been knocked to its side is blocking the road. Two more boars are rummaging through its contents.
Help! Help! Anyone! he screams
Neither the Salimar nor the boars have noticed you yet...
Feb 5, 2023 2:59 pm
Perfect! A "damsel in distress" situation. Thinking Garic says Time for some action! I will try and scare them off first. quietly to his friends.

He then focus a moment then create a illusory sound of a wolf howling followed by withe a bit closer. The sound will come from down wind off to the side in the woods. Hopefully the boar will simply be scared off. It works on smaller beasts but he is not sure about a group this big. If he Kross the sound up it may prevent the boar from noticing any preparations his friends make.

Josiah, who is more wary about this whole affair than anyone else present (he's mostly here because his friends were going), readies the two-handed felling axe he's taken with him as a weapon. "Be careful everyone," he says quietly, looking to the surrounding woods as he moves to the front protectively.

"There may be more boars or worse in the forest..."
Feb 5, 2023 4:48 pm
Don't worry my friends. These are just hungry wild pigs, I'm sure I should be able to befriend them with a little snack. Food makes everyone kind.

Naively, Foldrat grabs a little bit of food from his rations and tries to approach the boars.
Feb 5, 2023 4:55 pm
Vienne shifts closer to Josiah and does her best to watch where he is not. "Six boars is...a lot." Her voice is soft, hopefully not drawing the wrong attention. "Are boars afraid of wolves even?" Akhi gave a small hiss, causing Vienne to correct herself. "Eight boars."
Feb 5, 2023 10:09 pm
Sprout keeps towards the back where he can watch and decide what best course of action to take. "Let's try and avoid bloodshed if possible. These boars are probably just acting naturally."
Feb 5, 2023 11:58 pm
Just one of them will make good eating for all of us, Josiah thinks to himself...
Feb 6, 2023 1:24 am
Jahamu grumbles and rears up big. Not for the first time, he wishes that he had the gift of speech with beasts. "We don't want to fight this many boars," he says. "Even one can be as dangerous as me. But maybe we can rescue the Salimar without fighting. Let's see if the boars will let us approach nicely." He begins to swagger bear-style toward the tree, grumbling as he goes.
Feb 6, 2023 2:35 am
Seeing that most of his friends seems to want to avoid bloodshed, Gale slowly approaches the bear along side Jahamu.
You may not have the gift to speak with beast, but I do my friend

Loud enough for the boar to hear he says
Leave that poor fellow alone. If you want food we have some to share. Take it and be on your way

Despite his goodwill he keeps his bow close at hand. If he had learned one thing during his hunting trip is that wild animals were unpredictable.

Garlic channels his magical powers, imagining a pack of wolves howling. He tries to project the imagined sounds into the distance but his concentration slips.
Instead of the sound of howling wolves he creates a noise that sounds more like the yapping of a small dog. The boars are unphased by this.
While Garlic, Josiah, Sprout and Vienne keep back, Foldrat approaches the boars and two come towards him, grunting and sniffing the rations that he holds out. Jahamu follows suit and the boars seem to be wary.
When Gale speaks to them they slightly tilt their heads to their side.
Hurt our head when the big wooden boar crashed into us. Very pain we have. And hunger. We eat wooden boar and small lizard. Both look tasty

Gale grunts and sniffs in the air.
Garic readies himself to defend the group but whatever grunting Gale did seems to work. The boars grunt and gently shove Gale and then feed on your rations.
Foldrat sits down and hands out rations left and right until his pack is empty.
Then they grunt once more and, happily grunting, leave for the woods.
[ +- ] What the boars answered
The Salimar climbs down from the tree. He adjusts his robe and then shakes each of your hands.
Thank you very much for your help. My name is Frazzt! What are your names?
I was riding my carriage down they road when the boars suddenly ran out of the woods and hit my wagon. It was knocked over and I was barely able to climb the tree before they attacked me.

Frazzt looks at his carriage and then turns to you with a pleading look on his face tapping his fingertips against each other repeatedly.
Errrm... It's a bit embarrassing but can I ask you for another favor? Can you maybe put my carriage back on its wheels? And I also had two horses that were drawing it. They fled after my vehicle was knocked over. If you'd be so kind to find them I'd not only replace your rations but also offer you a reward as a token of my appreciation. Without carriage and horses my financial situation would be.... dire

Josiah waits as their fellows speak with and disperse the hungry boars, standing guard, protecting those who remained in the rear. That includes Vienne, who is cute enough to normally redden the strapping lad’s cheeks when she speaks to him directly. It’s not so bad when she addresses the group, as she does now.

"Aye. Gale’s got this way with animals. And it probably helped that Jahamu was beside him. Smart of Foldrat to feed them, too. See? Off they go."

Soon enough they join the others and hear what the Salimarian merchant has to say. Josiah help Foldrat right the cart without a word, but he’s not so sure about chasing after the trader’s horses without clear mention of what the reward would be.

Giving Garic a wide berth as he works his goblin magic, Josiah looks for tracks, asking, "How long since they’ve bolted, and which way did they go?"

Sprout smiles at the peaceful resolution that his friends were able to negotiate. Well done, my friends!" Coming near to assist in the righting of the cast, Sprout is caught off guard by the sheer strength that Foldrat exhibits and stands speechless as he observes.
Feb 7, 2023 4:12 pm
Vienne lets out a little cheer and clap when the boars leave. How wonderful of it to be solved only at the expense of some rations! She gives Josiah a bright smile as they join the others. "I have to say that went far better than expected. Maybe this adventuring thing is easier than I thought!"

She wasn't an unhelpful person, but knew that she wasn't able to contribute to the righting of the carriage in any significant way and thus stays out of the way of the others. She cheers them on as she answers the Salimar. "Nice to meet you Frazzt, I'm Vienne." She turns to her friends. "Awesome you guys! And Foldrat, where have you been hiding all that strength?!"

Vienne admits Josiah has an excellent point. The horses could be long gone by now. "Well...if you saw the way they went and we could find their tracks, maybe Akhi could follow them? Or, if the aren't too far, perhaps Garic and I could lure them back with the smell of their favorite food!" Despite talking to the group at large, she looks to Josiah to make sure he knows that she thinks his question is a good one. She has always found that a bit of acknowledgement goes a long way.

Akhi did a mental equivalent of a shrug to her, indicating he would try. The two were never quite sure what would work with their small magic until they tried.
Feb 8, 2023 6:12 am
Josiah flushes a little when Vienne smiles at him, and from where he’s kneeling, looking for tracks, he realizes he hasn’t introduced himself to the Salimar traveler. "Josiah Smelter," he says curtly.
Feb 8, 2023 7:23 pm
After the boars had left Gale sigh of relief. Despite being a hunter, he never liked to kill animals without necessity.
At the mention of horses on the loose he silently proceeds to examine the ground looking for hooves traces and broken branches that he could follow.
Feb 8, 2023 7:45 pm
Frazzt excitedly claps his hands as Foldrat manages to flip the carriage, seemingly with hardly any effort.
Ohhh! You are really strong. Unfortunately the wheel is broken and... he begins to say but then Garic mends the wheel with his magic.
Oh you surely are a wonderful bunch! Nice to meet you even if the circumstances are a bit... chaotic.
As for where the horses went... I think they went into the woods that way because the boars came from the other side.

After/while fixing the carriage Garic offers to stay and keep Frazzt company if the others go searching for the horses.

He will ask Frazzt about the lands beyond, where he traveled, stories and legends he had heard, where he had been, where he is going, what're he does, where he lives... He even pauses to hear most of an answer before asking the next question.
(Yes Garic was/is one of those kids and hasn't quite grown up yet)
Feb 8, 2023 9:23 pm
"You go find the horses, I will sit for a minute to regain some strength"

Foldrat stuffs his pipe and sits next to Garic while he's asking all his questions. Noticing his pipe-weed pouch is almost empty he asks "Hey, mister Frazzt, I don't suppose you have some pipe-weed in that carriage of yours? You see, I always like to carry a large quantity of the best kind from my own garden, but this time I could not take much with all that adventuring gear we've got with us... Speaking of which, this whole adventuring thing makes me quite hungry..."

Foldrat looks into his backpack, only to realise that he has given all his food to the boars. "My dear Garic, do you think you could spare a piece of cured meat to feed a poor hungry Dwarf?"
Feb 9, 2023 2:00 am
No one told you to give all your food to the boar. Perhaps our host can help you restock.? and he glances meaningfuly at Frazzt.
Not waiting for a responce Garic digs into his pack and pulls a bit of rations for Foldrat and starts to hands it over.
Then with a slightly malicious grin You know, adventureing might be good for all of us. I understand it is quite rough and can have many hardships. Probably builds character. Maybe you have th right of it. We should get used to hardship. Great idea Foldrat! and he moves to put the food back in his pack . . . grining mischeviously and glancing meaningfuly at the dwarfs "stout" toso.

"Are we going to track down these horses then?" Josiah asks his fellows plainly, examining the ground and the flattened plants. When it seems Vienne has the trail, the broad-shouldered man is ready to accompany and protect her and any others who come along.
Feb 10, 2023 5:17 am
Tossing the food to Foldrat with a smile then gathering up his pack, Garic says Since we are here and can help we should. Foldrat can keep Frazzt safe till we get back.
Joining the others he continues Just tell me what to look for, I'm no tracker though. And he waits to follow thiose who are
Feb 10, 2023 12:11 pm
Foldrat catches the food and gives a 'thank you' nod to Garic but with a slight grin on his face. He then mumbles to himself "Silly goblin, I'll have to teach him good manners..."

"I'll stay here with our new friend as you go find the horses."He shouts.

He then starts munching on the food and turns to Frazzt "So... What about this pipe-weed?"
Feb 10, 2023 1:49 pm
"I'll help gather the horses. Perhaps I'll be of some assistance within the woods." Sprout begins to tread towards the direction of the horses' escape, following after the others.
Feb 10, 2023 2:31 pm
Frazzt goes up to the pile of goods that fell from the carriage and rummages through it. He disappears nearly completely in it and you hear the clanking of metal, wood and potentially glass until he successfully emerges from the pile with a small bag in his hand.
Ah yes! I'm glad the boars didn't eat it. Here's your pipeweed, freshly packaged by the boar tribe in the north. Kind of ironic if I think about it...
Frazzt hands Foldrat the small leather bag. The pipeweed in there has a slightly earthen smell which means that it was given time to refine before packaging it.
I'm also getting a bunch of rations from the carriage Frazzt says and hops onto the carriage

Vienne meanwhile investigates the trampled down bushes at the side. She takes a few steps into the forest and looks out for any signs of the horses. At first her eyes have problems adjusting to the dim light beneath the forest canopy but after a few moments she is able to see the marks of hooves in the soft forest ground and she should be able to follow them without problems.

As she finds the trail she points it out to the others. "I'm not a tracker either, so it is probably safe to assume this trail is fairly prominent. But that's good for us! Let's find these horses." Happily, and with a little bounce to her step, Vienne leads the way along the trail and feels almost like a real adventurer.
Feb 11, 2023 5:34 pm
Jahamu has been sniffing around, trying to catch a scent of horses, but the lingering odor of boar has stymied his nose.

He waddles over to Sprout and Foldrat. "Huh," he says as he sits down with a thump, watching the Salimar merchant rummage through goods. "Hey mister Frazzt! Would you like help to reload your wagon?"

Josiah nods at Sprout, happy to have the treefolk's help, just as he's happy to let them take the lead on tracking if they want. He does quicken his step to try and keep pace with Vienne. He wants to tell her to slow down and be more careful, but the words die on his tongue and he just tries to keep close enough to protect her in case something happens.
Feb 12, 2023 11:33 pm
Vienne follows the track along with her friends. As you go deeper into the woods Garic's magical lights prove to be invaluable
After a while you hear neighing nearby. You follow the sound and find the horses, standing in a clearing. A creature looking like a mix between a ladybug and a human and about half as tall as a human is dancing around the horses, occasionally feeding them berries and talking to them
...Aaaand another berry for you Mr. Horse. Shame that you two don't want to play... Only ever want to eat berries. Is this what becomes out of animals that live with humans for too long?
The creature doesn't notice you
Frazzt jumps down from the carriage again with a bunch of rations packets in his hands. There you go. Feast on it he says while handing them out.
Oh a little bit of help would be greatly appreciated. he reacts to Jahamu's offer.
You begin to load the goods back onto the carriage. Each time Frazzt grabs an item he tells a little story that sounds like a sales pitch. Either he wants to sell them to you or he is just so used to do this that he doesn't notice it.
Ah yes a fine work of art by the forest feys. Really fits well over a fireplace. Oh and this knife here is splendidly suited for carving wood. And this puppet here is said to fend of ghosts. The tribespeople near Icespire Peak gave it to me. They said that ghosts have started to appear at the mountain. Ohhhh and this set of cutlery was finely crafted by the dwarves of the silver mountains. It will last for generations. A set like this has been in our family for five generations....

Foldrat sniffs the pipeweed and is delighted by the smell. "My friend, this is undoubtedly some quality leaf you have here; and of a variety I am not sure I recognise. I will need to visit these folks in the North to learn about their methods for growing pipeweed."

He stuffs his pipe, ignites the leaves, and starts puffing. "So tell me, mister Frazzt... Where were you heading with all these goods in your carriage? You certainly seem like someone who travels a lot."

Oh yes the northern tribes don't care a lot about the quantity of commodities they have but the few things they produce are very fine.
I was heading to Flowergrove and then off to the south through the low pass. Selling what I procured in the north and getting more goods from the south. It's my first large scale trading trip. Which preparations will you take for the rest? Anything you'll do at every rest? RP as you wish

Vienne tries to help where she can, regretting her lack of knowledge about camping. Maybe this wasn't the brightest idea, but she was here now and threw herself into it.

"Anyone good at scavenging or hunting?"
OOC:
Vienne will learn all she can and help out.

"Two hour shifts make the most sense to me. We can switch off every other night. I will be happy to take the last watch. I enjoy the sunrise." Sprout will help as he can, being careful to avoid being too close to the fire. When it's time to sleep, he will stand upright near the edge of camp and sink some roots from his feet into the ground for stabilization.
Feb 28, 2023 9:36 pm
Foldrat leans against a tree and lights his pipe. "This looks like the perfect spot, well done Sprout. This almost looks safe enough to avoid us taking turns watching but if we must I'll take the second turn"

He puffs rings of smoke as he watches the others make a fire. "It's a shame we did not kill one of these boars, it would have been perfect for dinner. Is any of you good at hunting? As a farmer, I've never really hunted but it shouldn't be that hard... Maybe I should learn how to use a bow and arrow... Anyway, I better get some sleep now. Wake me up when it's my turn" He closes his eyes and - approximately 3 and a half seconds later - starts snoring loudly.

Garic sifts through the underwood of the forest. Unfortunately he doesn't find anything edible. All the berries he finds are not ripe yet, the roots he finds are too hard and the only animal he sees is a grey partridge that flies out of a bush and into the distance.
Vienne who accompanied him, tries to catch the latter but it flies through her arms.
Sprout at least is able to find a place where mushrooms grow. They are not enough to nourish you all but at least they are a neat side dish for the ration packs you have to consume.
You count your rations and they should be enough to get you to Icespire Peak. Hopefully you can get more on the way...

You take turns in guarding your campside during the night but thankfully no one bothered you. After a night of well deserved rest you awaken early in the morning and continue along your way...

Well everyone except Josiah. He holds his back and after an hour of marching with you he says I'm sorry lads but I don't think the adventuring life is cut out for me. My back hurts from lying on the ground and I'm hungry. Have fun and take care but I'll return to Flowergrove. Maybe I'll see Frazzt again.
With these words he goes back to the village
The following day is pretty uneventful and after a day of marching the mysterious mountain that is your goal is much closer to you. The following night you once again can see the lights that sparked your interest in the ruins in the first place but in much greater detail. They seem to dance in and around the ruins a bit like tiny comets. A fascinating but eerie sight to behold.

The second night of camping is uneventful as well and the following morning you march on. You are nearing the place where the road curves away from the mountain and you therefore have to continue through the woods.

Just as you discuss on where exactly you are going to leave the road you hear a voice
Hello? Hi? Can I talk to you real quick?
You look around but can't see the person who spoke
No not here. Down here! Hello!
You look down on the ground but can't see anything either
No... I *sigh* here!
Garic feels a slight pull at his pants. He looks down and sees a gopher that's waving at him.
Hey! Erm... sorry to disturb you but I could use your help. Do you have time to lend an unfortunate gal a hand?
Mar 1, 2023 10:38 pm
After looking for any other potential spices of the voice he carefully squats so as to shelter the little bug and replies It will be an honor. How may we be of assistance?
Thinking to himself, were there this many big people in the legends? I never knew they got this small. O hope they stay clear off the road. Shiver. I hope we didn't step on any. And he imagines a world of tiny bug people getting squashed by careless giants

Well... the gopher rubs its tiny hands together. ... you know I used to be an adventurer like you but then I was turned into this animal. I scouted the ruins of a tower not too far to the east from here. I think they belonged to a wizard of some kind. In there were strange apparatuses, a laboratory and right at the top was a big blue crystal sphere. And somehow I .... I don't know how to say it...activated the sphere? It began to whirl and shoot shining missiles around the room. One of it hit me and then I became this. I fled the tower because somehow everything in there was about to come to life. I think if you deactivate this sphere I'll be turned back to how I was before. At least I hope so. I don't know any other way...
The gopher turns its head and looks at each of you, folding its hands in front of its chest
Mar 3, 2023 3:13 am
Sprout kneels down to speak with the gopher. "Interesting. We may already be heading towards the solution to your problems. Did you see anything on the way in the first time or the way out the last time that might help us successfully get into and through the tower?"

https://live.staticflickr.com/4030/4499922074_646e184546_m.jpgI...I...I think that the door is still open. You shouldn't have any problems to get into the tower.
The tower has three floors. On the first one is some kind of workshop, the second houses a laboratory and on the third is the crystal sphere.
When I ran away a lot of things began to move in the tower but I was too scared to take a closer look.

The gopher looks at you with its dark eyes and a tilted head Sooooo... will you help me? I don't want to sound too whiny but I was nearly eaten by a fox two times. So I'm not really keen on keeping this form

Garic feels magical power encasing the gopher like a shell. Whatever kind of magic this was, it was very powerful and it's clearly beyond your power to break the enchantment on your own

Vienne can feel the magical power too. While she tries to determine the kind of enchantment Akhi attempts to eat the gopher, which of course is impossible but its snake nature just took control of the spirit animal
This distracted Vienne so much that she can't concentrate any more.
Mar 4, 2023 3:25 pm
The tower sounds interesting as well as too valuable and dangerous to be simply abandoned.
I think we can at least look into this. East you say?
Turning to the others Shall we?
Mar 5, 2023 9:52 pm
"Sounds good," grumbles Jahamu with his cheerful growl.
Mar 6, 2023 12:49 am
"It would seem the sooner the better as well. Can you hide yourself well enough until then friend?"
Mar 7, 2023 1:18 pm
Best you come with us and guide us through this tower Garic says. Scooping up the rodent adventureer he sets it atop his pack over his shouder. Lets go!
Excited by the prospect of adventure in a wizards tower he sets off under the gophers directions . What is your name? he asks the gopher as they continue towards the tower.
Mar 7, 2023 1:31 pm
Yes! I have a burrow nearby... Which sounds like a strange thing to have if you're not used to be a gopher. Just call out for me at this place here when you're done. My name is Martina, by the way. The tower is this way. Just follow the trail I made through the underwood. Thank you so much! the gopher responds and runs away

You follow the described path through the forest for about an hour when you approach a clearing. In the middle of the clearing is a massive tower made out of finely carved stone blocks. The top of the tower has fallen off and its debris are littering the clearing, leaving only the three floors that Martina described. The plants in the clearing are all grey and dead.
Traces in the mud and some tools laying around hint at the fact that someone recently moved some of the debris in order to access to the door at the base of the tower.
The door is halfway open. You peek into the next room which seems to encompass the whole ground floor. From what you can see there are a lot of tools on shelves and workbenches that line the wall.
A massive shelf laden with mechanical parts made out of brass blocks any further inspection of the room without entering it.
OOC:
I assume that the rest of the party is okay with inspecting the tower too ^^
If not you can still voice your concerns before you enter the tower
Mar 9, 2023 2:56 am
Sprout moves to push the front door completely open and cautiously moves into the first room if nothing reacts to the door moving.
Mar 9, 2023 12:26 pm
Looking around Garic says Waste not, want not. That's what my dad taught me and he will collect the tools scattered around the tower before trying the others to head inside the Tower.
Mar 10, 2023 4:15 pm
After taking time to calm Ahki, Vienne drifted after the others to the tower. It wasn't in the best of shape, that was for sure. "This place is...a dump. And so many tools..." She looks around and attempts to see any light from the top floor, in case the sphere is still activated.
Mar 12, 2023 9:07 pm
Garic picks up the tools and puts them into his backpack.
[ +- ] What Garic finds
Sprout leads the foray into the tower.
As he's already seen the ground floor's walls are lined with shelves and workbenches. A large shelf full of cogs, springs and other mechanical parts divides the room in half. Behind the shelf you can see the stairs leading up to the second floor. Vienne looks up the stairs. She thinks she can hear a faint hissing sounds as well as the reflections of flashes of light
Five human-like figures are behind the shelf too. They seem to be made out of the same, mechanical parts that you find scattered around the room. They are completely made out of brass and hold a sword in their right hand. Plates of brass cover the torso as well as the joints. The "face" of these figures is formed by a plate with three holes forming a triangle that's pointing down. They are scattered around the room and standing completely still
Mar 12, 2023 9:28 pm
Quietly Garic guesses Magical security? he had heard of golems and other magical constructs in the stores of adventure he loved to listen to as a child.
These will be the first he had seen of any and he is curious, though a bit nervous.

Vienne takes a few steps back and sends her chakrams flying at the same construct but they miss, knocking down a few springs from the shelf nearby

Gale jumps back a bit and shoots an arrow with his bow which narrowly misses

Three off them pile up on Garic while Foldrat and Sprout are attacked by one each

But the long time standing there seems to have damaged their mechanics. Their movements are very stiff and you all have no problem avoiding their attacks.

One of the construct's attacks is especially clumsy and instead of Sprout it hits one of its mechanical brethren

Vienne sends her chakrams at the damaged construct and with two clean cuts they sever the arm and head of it, which causes it to topple to floor right on the spot where it's standing.

You celebrate your victory but the headless construct starts to move again. You all assault it together and within seconds you reduce it to a pile of springs and rods.

Foldrat limps towards Sprout. Ah yes a bit of healing is in order I think. Those buggers got me two times

Meanwhile Garic examines the area. All the shelves are packed with boxes, filled with mechanical parts. Springs, cogwheels, rods, joints and some parts that you know are there. He finds a lot of tools on a workbench. Hammers, tongs, nails,... In short anything you'd expect in a well stocked workshop.
He also finds some half finished constructs, similar to the ones you fought. On of them makes his skin tingle. It's a torso with an open chest. Inside he can see and sense a blue shimmering crystal, about as large as an egg and shaped like a raindrop.
This crystal clearly contains magical energy.

The crystal is inside a brass socket. Garic carefully reaches inside the torso, twist and turns the crystal and eventually he's able loosen it enough to remove it from the socket.
He takes the crystal and turns it in his hands. On closer inspection Garic can see that the crystal emits a faint blue glow. This crystal clearly contains quite a lot of magical power.
Apr 10, 2023 12:30 am
Thinking this might not be the safest thing to tote about he looks for anything in the workshop that might be used to house the crystal safely. Preferably not too large but sturdy, a small box would be ideal, and some padding for it. If not then Garic will wrap it in his sleeping roll for now.

Sprout reaches down to lay a hand on Foldrat's shoulder. "I'll do my best, my friend." Sprout concentrates on sending healing magic in a sort of reversal of the way that his roots nourish him.

He stays this way for slightly uncomfortably too long and finally opens his eyes. "Seems like it didn't work this time. It may be from the injury that I sustained myself."

Garic finds a simple wooden box as well as some pieces of rough cloth. He pads the box with the cloth and places the crystal within. This should keep it safe...

I've just read through the rules again, and come to the following conclusions:
1. The Focus action is only applicable in combat and is only valid for attack actions:
[ +- ] Focus rule
Garic's removing of the crystal is still valid as I've only realized this now
2. There is no healing rule for outside of combat. You only have to rule when healing while in combat. So Sprout can heal the party up to full health in between encounters without rolling.

Taking a moment to recenter himself, Sprout tries again to channel the flow of healing energy from himself to the others. This time he is met with more success and heals up his wounded companions fully. "I'd say a little more exciting that I expected. Garic, you've been investigating the area. Is there anything we need to do before proceeding to the next floor?"

Apologies! I'll rp it next time, but for now copy paste. Here it is:

Vienne can hear Akhi's thoughts.
Hsss... a bird said that it wanted to eat meeee but it couldn't move. Was about as big as a hawk. It was made of shiny thing like the strange humans you fought and sitting on the far side. Lots of broken shards on the floor and colourful puddles. No strange humans though....
Apr 14, 2023 8:22 pm
The puddles seem odd in this place. Hmmm. . . A talking bird huh? But no big glowing magic? Then seems safe enough to check out for ourselves
Garic resumes his advance if the others have no objections. Shields up and eyes and ears alert.
Apr 14, 2023 8:58 pm
Vienne is wary but trusts Garic and so gets ready to follow. She hangs back a bit though, Ahki wrapped around her shoulders, as she knows she isn't a front lines kind of person. "I'm wary of the puddles, if we can avoid them I think we should."
Apr 14, 2023 9:38 pm
Sprout will follow right behind Garic, ready to jab his spear over top should the need arise.
Apr 15, 2023 5:40 pm
You all advance up the stairs. This floor seems to be some kind of laboratory.
Placed along the walls are tables and shelves. On the tables you see a still, various flasks made out of glass, some jars made out of ceramic, labeled in an unknown language as well as various tools that are made out of brass and glass whose purpose is unknown to you.
The shelves contain loads of glassware like beakers, flasks and jars.
3 Flasks containing coloured liquids are lined up in front of the still.
The floor is littered with broken flasks and shards. There are some puddles of colourful liquids on the ground. Some of them have partially mixed up creating new colours. The broken flasks seem to have come from a shelf on the side that has collapsed. You should have no problem to avoid the shards and the puddles though.
At the far end of the room is a doorway that is blocked by a shining pink barrier.
Beside the doorway is a mechanical bird on a stand.
It turns a bit as you enter and opens its beak. It speaks with a mechanical voice
New strangers! Have you come here to break stuff too? it croaks
Apr 17, 2023 2:42 pm
Sprout is startled for a moment at the bird's speech. He's never seen an automaton such as this and it shows. Regaining his composure, he speaks to the bird. "No, we haven't come to break anything that doesn't try to break us first. We're here to explore mostly. Oh, and also to help a friend who may have been cursed."
Apr 17, 2023 10:19 pm
That's good! the mechanical bird squawks Not that I could hinder you if you were into breaking things. I can just bid you to keep everything here intact. Hahaha. the laugh sounds even more mechanical
No curses are to be found here but the stranger before you turned on master's machine. Maybe it had some side effects
Apr 17, 2023 10:59 pm
Looking around the shop on curiosity Where is your master? We want to try and help the man get his form back on shape.
And is the . . uh . . machine still on?
Apr 17, 2023 11:40 pm
Vienne peeks around the others and stares at the mechanical bird. So pretty! As she listens she can't help but get curious.

"What does your master do? There seem to be a lot potion liquids everywhere. Anything dangerous?"
Apr 18, 2023 11:41 am
My master is upstairs! And yes the machine is on, you can see the protection magic shielding the doorway

He is a researcher and inventer. He invented potions that alter your appearance, potions that heal wounds, potions that make the floor slippery, potions that make metal soft for some time.
He also invented the guardians downstairs.
I don't think he did much dangerous work but what do I know, I'm just a bird.
the mechanical bird anwers
Apr 18, 2023 2:39 pm
"Wow, those are some quite amazing things. Just like you are. Would we be able to go and see your master somehow?"
Apr 18, 2023 9:34 pm
You need to pass the barrier to see the master. Master always had to turn into the color of the barrier to pass through it. He always did it somehow but I don't know how the bird squawks
Apr 18, 2023 10:50 pm
Did he drink any potions before changing color Garic moves cautiously around the room looking for anything matching the barrier color
Apr 19, 2023 6:22 pm
Vienne looks at the barrier at the birds words, and attempts to see what she can see magically, hopefully locating the potion they need. Or at least understand a bit more about this stuff.

Apr 19, 2023 9:38 pm
Yes the master drank potions before going upstairs. He had a potion for nearly everything he did the bird replies
Garic looks around the room. In front of the still are three flasks containing coloured liquids. Unfortunately they are blue, red and green.
He looks around a bit more but doesn't find anything. Discouraged he looks to the ground at the broken flasks. Multiple liquids have mixed up.
And he can also see some pink spots. Unfortunately he can't discern which of the potions created the pink colour.

Vienne meanwhile feels the magic of the barrier. Whoever crafted this barrier was a very skilled magician. She can't hope to counter that magic with her own.
But she can't feel anything hostile about the barrier. It's just here to prevent passage, not to harm you. So you should be safe to experiment with it.
She tries to push the barrier but shortly before touching it an unseen force opposes her, as if someone was pushing against her hand. Even with all her strength she can't counter that force. She pulls her hand back and the force disappears.
Apr 19, 2023 10:15 pm
Vienne stares a bit longer at the barrier before speaking up to the others, testing the force briefly once more. "I think this person just wants to be left alone. The magic is...amazing really, but it doesn't seem like it will hurt us." She turns to the bird to ask a question. "Is there a way you can send them a message? Really we'd just like the gopher fixed."
Apr 20, 2023 12:18 am
In starting to feel a bit bad actually. I thought this place was abandoned. Then the gopher won't come in. The bird days his master is still here. Something isn't quite right. Trying to communicate with the master does seem the right thing to do at this point.

Hey bird is there some way to contact your master?

Garic tries to recall if there was a door knocker or bell anywhere outside or on the first floor.
Apr 20, 2023 1:55 am
Sprout kneels close to Garic and whispers. "Do you recall what triggered the golems downstairs?"
Apr 20, 2023 2:15 am
Wasn't it just because we passed the shelves?.
Though good and kind Garic isn't always observant of details. Add in his goblin inclinations for pranks and Tom foolery and he sometimes gets himself and others into trouble with meaning to.
Apr 20, 2023 2:24 am
"If that's so then I wonder what the master had them set to do?"
Apr 20, 2023 7:37 am
A message for the master? I can send him one. Wait... the bird says and is then completely still. After a few moments the bird moves again
No answer from him. It has been 716 moons since I last heard back or seen the master. This is the longest experiment the master has conducted so far
Apr 20, 2023 10:07 am
"How can you be sure that he's still there?"
Apr 20, 2023 12:49 pm
He never came down since the last time he went up. So he is still up there. the bird replies in its mechanical voice
Apr 20, 2023 1:09 pm
Lets see 12 moons to a year . . 715 moons . . . umm yeah that's a long time to stay up there I am pretty sure he died or something really strange happened
Feeling a bit better about their action, though sorry for the wizard, he turns his attention to the potions.
blue, red and green looking for clean empty mixxing containiners Garic will begin carefully mixing minute amounts to attempt to recreate the required color. Start with more red and add green. Just like when I was learning to be an apothicary he laughs a bit at the memory but makes sure to control and record the amounts used

"Has anything or anyone else come down in that time? That is a very long time for no movement..." Vienne watches Garic with interest as she asks the bird. He was being so scientific about it!
Apr 20, 2023 7:35 pm
No. Master has not returned. Only the stranger that broke the shelf went up but never came down again. Then there was noise and an animal looking like a rat came down. Then the barrier went up and noise came from downstairs. the mechanical bird squawks

Garic meanwhile experiments with the potions. He quickly finds some small glass containers and first mixes the red and green potions. The resulting mixture turns yellow.
He experiments a bit more and ultimately finds out that mixing the red and blue potions gives him a potion that has a color very similar to the barrier.
There is enough potion left to create a whole flask of the pink one.
Apr 21, 2023 12:21 am
Her expression seemed to sharpen as the bird talked. "Is our gopher acquaintance separate of that?" Might explain why the little chap didn't want to come in.
Apr 21, 2023 12:57 am
Well all the stories are lined up now. The adventureer went up and cam down as a gopher as witnes by the bird her and then the shield activated. The questions remain, what happnd to the wizard and how many of us can be affected by the potion once I mix it, assuming it works He smiles a bit sheepishly
We said we would try to hep the gopher so I shal try. Let me know when everyone is ready to go up and I will mix the potion.
Apr 22, 2023 11:44 am
"I'm ready when you are, Garic. Mix away."
Apr 22, 2023 1:56 pm
Mixing the potion Garic so then quickly so the brew. If/when his color matches that of the barrier he will hand the bottle to Sprout before walking up to the barrier, reaching out to touch it, and pad through if possible.
Apr 22, 2023 11:38 pm
Garic mixes the red and blue potions until the colour matches that of the barrier. He gives the flask to Sprout and tries to walk through but the barrier repels him.
Seems like mixing the potion alone isn't enough. Apparently you have to drink it too...

Garic drinks a mouth full of the potion. It tastes like a strange kind of herbal liquor with a consistency comparable to milk. His stomach cramps a bit and suddenly he begins to sweat. But just as Garic worries that the potion poisoned him the feeling subsides and he feels normal again.
His appearance though is not normal any more. His whole body as well as everything he's wearing is suddenly pink.
Garic tries to penetrate the barrier once more and without even a hint of resistance he's able to pass through it.
Behind it is a stairway that leads up to the next floor.
In regular intervals he can hear a sizzling noise coming from upstairs.
Apr 25, 2023 1:32 am
Sprout gives Garic a silly look as he turns pink but it quickly subsides after he walks through the barrier. He turns up the flask just enough for a mouthful, passes it off to Vienne, and then heads up after Garic.
Apr 25, 2023 2:12 am
Vienne glances briefly at the potion before tossing her portion back and heading after them. She has probably drank stranger things.
OOC:
I'm unsure if there are others with us at this point since it seems to be us rotating around so she will pass it on with some left if there is another pc here.

Foldrat and Gale decline the opportunity to drink the potion
We'll take watch here. Don't like pink drinks Foldrat grumbles

Vienne and Sprout drink the potion, turn pink too and pass through the barrier.
You ascend the stairs up to the next floor.
The next floor looks... mysterious. Colourful lichens cover the walls and mushrooms grow in the corners between wall and floor.
A giant red sphere hovers in the centre of the room. It looks as if red clouds were enclosed in a glass sphere.
At the far side of the room an apparatus, about as tall as a human emits a ray of red light shining at the sphere.
The sizzling noise you've heard before comes from green projectiles that the apparatus shoots through the room every few seconds. Whenever they hit the walls they produce a shower of green sparks.
As long as you stay near the stairs they shouldn't be able to hit you
Apr 25, 2023 11:21 pm
"Let's test these projectiles out." Sprout produces a torch from his bag and places it where he's seen some of the bursts impact.
Apr 26, 2023 12:12 am
For now he will stay on the stairs bu Garic strains his magical sences to see if he can discern anything about the green bolts, the red coud, or the aparatus.
Apr 26, 2023 11:18 am
Shortly after Sprout places the torch it's hit by a burst from the machine.
The torch twists and turns until it's not a torch anymore but a small wooden figurine of a duck

Garic meanwhile can sense that the whole place basically radiates magical energy. The green bolts seem to have transformative properties.
The red orb feels.... displaced. The magical energy of it doesn't belong to this place and wants to return back to from where it came from. But the apparatus seems to prevent that with the ray it's emitting
Apr 26, 2023 12:29 pm
After relaying his findings to the others he smacks his head. We should have brought the bird. It might have been able to explain things If the potino is still in effect then Garic wil quickly duck back downstaris and politely ask the metal bird to acompany him up to the room and use a drop of the potion on it before returning upstairs.
Apr 26, 2023 6:35 pm
Vienne stares into the room, generally confused as to what she was seeing. "Good idea, Garic! Any thoughts bird?"
Apr 26, 2023 7:02 pm
Garic rushes down the stairs, grabs the bird, pours some potion over it and brings it back up.
He shows the bird the room. The room is very different to when I last saw it. There was a sleeping room up here before master transformed it into this here. He never showed me what he did here. Maybe because he was afraid that someone could extract information from me the bird croaks
Apr 27, 2023 12:34 pm
Setting the bird down on a step out of the way Garric conciders. The question is what do do?
I am thinking we should turn off the machine but do not want to become a gerbil.

Vienne, do you think we could combine magis to protect one of us from those trange green energies. I figure two should be stronger than one but I havn't tries mixxing magics with others before.

He keeps an eye on the bird to see if it reacts .

Apr 27, 2023 9:36 pm
"I've never done that either, but it could be possible." Vienne stroked Akhi's head and had a thought. "The magic might not effect Akhi. He could scout for a way to turn it off." She looked down at her snake, and if he thought he could do it then she'd let him.

Vienne takes a moment before she speaks up and explains that the machine has a lot turning wheels but the green bolts are coming from a crystal at the backside, pointing to it when she mentions.

"Someone very good with thier aim might be able to shoot it. Or there could be a way to take it off. It does seem to be the dangerous part - magic green transform into other things wise."

I do have my two shields but who is to say if they can stop the magic. We could try to match the color again to see if that helps.. So saying he looks around noticing where the beams strike to see if anything resists their power.
The walls arn't affected, perhaps it doesnt work on stone?

Garic watches where the beams hit. They all seem to hit the wall and leave no marks there.
The apparatus itself would seem like a complicated clock if you didn't know any better. While the sides are open on the front is a brass plate holding the emitter that creates the red ray directed at the sphere in the center of the room. On the inside cogwheels and other mechanical parts are turning. You can also see the glowing crystal that Vienne mentioned.
There are also two levers and a button. The levers seem to be constructed in a way that allows you to turn them sideways. The button is between them.

May 3, 2023 10:45 pm
Vienne watched the sphere with hope before it was dashed. "Should we try tossing different objects in and seeing what survives? That way we can perhaps find something that can get through to smash it?"
May 3, 2023 11:43 pm
It may simply be a aspect of the spell. My enchantments don't tend to last long. Perhaps the button needs to be held down or something else done to turn it off. We can always resort to breaking it as a last resort

Garic and Vienne both concentrate on the magical weave that swirls around the world, unnoticed by most. And they form it into a finger; a ghostly flimsy finger but it's strong enough to float to the button and press it down for a prolonged time.
The red light seizes to shine again and the sphere in the middle sinks to the ground. When it touches the floor it pops and red mist floods the room. You all expect to breathe it in and get a coughing fit but the red mist just feels cold and prickling on your skin and then dissipates into thin air.

Instead of the sphere there is a man in a grey shirt and trousers standing in the center of the room. His hair is black with grey streaks, shoulder long and messy. He also has a full beard. In his right hand he's holding a brass scepter with a green gem on top
He looks bewildered, watches the bolts of green energy fly by, turns around to the apparatus, skillfully ducks in order to avoid the bolts and then plucks the green crystal from the machine which seizes the machine from creating the bolts.

He brushes off his clothes with his hands, turns his head and then notices you.

Oh! Did... Was it you that turned off the dimensionicon? Usually I'd be very disgruntled that you've touched my equipment but in this case you've actually done me favor.
May 4, 2023 11:59 pm
"...Is this your master, birdie?" Vienne found she wasn't very impressed. It sounded like he got stuck in his own machine. Plus it didn't escape her that he hadn't actual said thank you. Just that he wasn't angry about them touching it.
May 5, 2023 12:46 am
Glad to be of service sir! Garic bows slightly. True heros should be noble and courteous. Actually we were direted here by a gopher. Says he used to be an adventurer but found this tower and while investigating activated that machine behind you and got blasted into a hole new body!
We had to break some of your metal men down stair sto come up, sorry. Oh and your bird says its been over 700 moons. i think youve been stuck for a while
and he shrugs in sympathy.
May 5, 2023 1:12 pm
Yes! Master! You have returned the bird croaks.

The man nods at the bird, looks bewildered and ponders Garic's words for a few seconds. In general he seems to be quite confused. He rapidly spews out words, pauses and then speaks again.
Oh yes. Of course a gopher. I think I've set the defense mechanism to rodent the man turns the green crystal from the machine in his hands, snips his finger and the crystal seizes to glow. He puts it into his pocket
So yes... your friend should be back to their true form. And 700 moons!? This didn't turn out how I thought it would be. I just wanted to enlarge the interior dimensions of the tower. You know physical objects are very... constraining. But I somehow locked myself in this extra-dimensional space.
He fishes a mechanical watch from his pocket.
Fascinating. For me only a few days passed... 700 moons.... is a lot. And you broke my mecha-humans? Oh.... well I think I'll have to rebuild them. So erm... I think I have to thank you for freeing me... Okay... what are you up to? Maybe I can give you some magical assistance in your endeavours. Or is it gold you desire?
May 5, 2023 1:39 pm
With a gleam in his eye Garic proclaims We have just become adventurers! And we have already helped two, no three people, if ou count the gopher. I dont think we really need coin and I for one would apreciate a eal magicly enchanted item. Could you do something to my shields? and he holds them up excitedly with a hopeful look plastered all over his face, and anywhere else it will fit

"Wow, this isn't what I expected at all. We're glad to help. It would be great if you could give us something that would help support us."
May 6, 2023 6:16 pm
Vienne's posture relaxed as the man kept speaking. So he wasn't rude, just a bit out of it. Which made sense."Yes, while we weren't looking for a reward, anything to help us out would be appreciated. We are headed for the castle." She was surprised but pleased at the idea of a reward, she truly would have been happy with a thank you.

Suddenly catching himself Garic lowers his shields Um, I mean we are glad to help, any reward you feel we deserve will be appreciated. and he smiles a bit abashedly.
May 10, 2023 9:57 pm
Oh yes... your shield... wait follow me the man walks downstairs, grabbing the mechanical bird on the way down.

Oh my! My precious brewing ingredients! he laments the collapsed shelf on the second floor But wait.... yes.... your... shield... I'll make a strengthening potion for it. And make it resistant to lightings! Oh yes and make it able to shine like the sun itself...!
The confused alchemist (?) gets to work, mixes, distills and decants his various potions.
After an hour he presents a flask with a silvery liquid
Give me your shield. This will make it very special he says to Garic and pours part of the liquid over the shield.
Suddenly the shield becomes flabby; like a pancake.
Oh nonono.... were the garberries bad? Or did I put in too little mercury? the man shakes his head. He begins to walk circles in the room, murmuring to himself, seemingly thinking about a way to turn the shield back into its original form.
After a few minutes the shield suddenly straightens itself out and is as hard as before.
Interesting.... Sometimes the greatest inventions are made by accident.... I must write this down! I have to ask you to leave. I have to concentrate. YOu can keep the rest of the potion
He shoves the flask with the potion into Garic's arms and then gestures you to leave the tower.

You got a potion of flabbiness

Taking the flask he looks at the others and shrugs. Thanks. Looking around he starts heading out while still filled with curiosity. Maybe we should have looked around more first before letting him out he whispers to Vienne as he passes her
May 11, 2023 1:18 am
She watched the scene with fading awe and eventual disbelief mingled with disgust. Vienne turned with Garic and muttered back to him. "What a prat. If we hadn't needed him, we would have been better off leaving him there." Turned out her first impression was the correct one.
May 11, 2023 9:15 am
As the group leave the tower they hear a voice call out to them. "Hey!" They turn to see a tall dark-haired woman emerge from the wood. "It’s me, Martina! I can’t believe you actually did it!" She jogs up to the group smiling excitedly. "Thank you so much! It feels so good to be back in my human form." She turns to get a good look at each member of the party in turn. "I realize I never asked your names or where you’re headed. If you need any help on your journey, I am at your service. I owe you guys."

Looking at the Tall woman he asks Gopher? Is that you?
After getting confirmation he continues Welcome. I am Garic. You are welcome to join us if you like. We are heading to Ice Spire Peak. Though it is more about the journey than the destination.

So besides getting transformed what are you doing out here on your own. We are new to adventuring but from the stories' we heard is seems pretty dangerous to do on your own.
May 13, 2023 9:03 am
A thoughtful look crosses Martina’s face. "I suppose it’s a matter of personal philosophy. At some point you have to ask yourself what kind of life you want to live. Personally, I think being born into a world as interesting and mysterious as ours, it would be a shame not to explore it as much possible—ideally while I’m still young enough to be a bit reckless." She shrugs sheepishly. "You’re right though, it would be better not to go at it alone. I can definitely see that now."
May 13, 2023 7:33 pm
Vienne beams at Martina in welcome. "Name's Vienne. I'm glad you're not a gopher any more." Turns out they did get something from that tower, an extra adventurer!
May 13, 2023 9:19 pm
I'm Garic. I'm going to be a great Arcane knight and protect people! and he strikes a pose with his hero shield. It had obviously been practiced with a mirror or little siblings or cousins telling him how grand he looks and he glances at Martina's reaction out of the corner of his eye

Martina’s eyes light up. "Oh my—arcane you say? So you have magical talent then? I studied the arcane some at university, though I never had the innate gift."
May 17, 2023 1:58 am
Sprout emerges last from the doorway of the strange tower of the stranger mage. "Maybe a few extra nuts on that tree." He chuckles to himself at his arborial humor.

Seeing Martina jog up and address the party ,he patiently waits his turn before responding, perhaps even waiting a bit too long for standard social norms. The large tree-man stands tall above the others and leans on a thick wooden shaft. "Hello Martina, my name is Sprout. I think I'm an explorer much like you. Although, I prefer exploring thoughts and ideals to actual geographical locations. It's fun to see new things anywhere though."
May 17, 2023 9:14 am
Foldrat and Gale seem to discuss something while you introduce yourself to each other.
Finally they approach you.
Nice to meet you Martina. Unfortunately we will have to leave. We both were of little use while returning you to your true form and we feel that we'd just hold you back.
We will head back to Flowergrove and prepare a warm welcome
Foldrat says. They bow down and leave
OOC:
Wrapping things up with the two inactive players

It's afternoon now and the sun is still shining. You could still make some way towards Icespire peak.
The most direct way would be to head into the forest right where you met Martina in gopher-form.
May 17, 2023 10:18 am
I say we press on. I'd like to get as close to our destination as possible
Garic tries to recall anything he knows of the area. Roads usually exist for a reason and sometimes that reason included avoiding certain impossible things. He will discuss this with the others. If none of them can think of any reason to return to the road then a little cross country trekking sounds exciting to him
May 18, 2023 8:32 pm
"Yes! And we're here to explore, right? Adventurers shouldn't be afraid to leave the road!" For some reason, she seems excited at the idea and has pumped herself up.
May 20, 2023 6:56 pm
Great let's go and Garic looks at the land ahead and sets out. Not directly for the mountain but using his familiarity with harvesting plants in the woods to find animal trails heading where they want to go if possible or if needed blazing a new trail trying to move with the land and forest
May 21, 2023 12:52 am
You all head back to the road and then into the woods. At first your progress is pretty fast despite the thick undergrowth but after a few hours of walking you notice that the ground is becoming murkier. You rest for a night and after walking through the undergrowth until noon you encounter a strange sign.
It's a crudely made board of wood with the skull of a giant toad-like creature nailed to it. Underneath the word "Gett Out. Serissly" are painted in red.
Seems like a warning. A warning by someone who isn't very adapt at writing you presume...
May 21, 2023 1:42 pm
Garic spreads his arcane senses feeing the ambient magic for any signs of danger.
Odd place for a sign. Bienne, can your familiar take a look around? he asks as he looks for a good tall climbing tree to survey the area ahead
May 21, 2023 8:01 pm
Vienne nods and sends Ahki down her arm to the ground. "See what you can find out."
May 22, 2023 8:06 pm
Martina, still not overly fond of the snake after it tried to take a bite out of her before, steps back to give it a wide berth while it slithers away. She turns her attention to Vienne and tries not to stare as she watches the magic at work.
May 22, 2023 10:02 pm
Garic tries to connect with the arcane energies flowing here but he can't do it just like that, they are too chaotic. Maybe if he can sit down for a moment and concentrate he'd be more successful.
While he looks for a place to rest he spots a quite large alder tree nearby. He or someone wlse could try to climb it.
Akhi meanwhile crawls ahead. After a few minutes the snake returns and crawls up Vienne's outstretched arm.
Scrol sent a note to Miss_Sadie

Garic closes his eyes and tries to sense the magical energies around him he think he can feel something if he's able to concentrate for long enough...

At the same time Martina tries to climb the alder, Vienne follows suit. Martina pulls herself up a branch, Vienne follows; occasionally helped by Martina who lends her a hand.
After they've climbed about half the height of the tree Martina reaches for a branch that's just out of reach. She does a little jump and grabs it but her grip slips and she begins to tumble down the tree. Vienna wants to catch her but the combined weight of both breaks the branch beneath her and she too falls down the tree. The fall is somewhat dampened by some of the branches that you bounce against on your way down but it still hurts like hell.
Garic is rudely pulled out of his concentration just as he thought he was able to connect to the arcane weave around him.
Additionally you scared a flock of birds that was resting in the tree and it flies off. So if someone is watching the skies they'll know that something or someone scared them...
OOC:
Hilarious rolls XD
Martina and Vienne take 1 damage each
May 24, 2023 6:45 pm
Fate says ignore the sign. I agree Garic grumbles. Adventuring is about taking risks, overcoming challenges, and having fun. Trading dumb signs is not fun.

Inviting the sign Garic simple reevaluates the best path to take to teach the mountain and takes a couple steps that way before looking back to see how the others react. Well, push on, or go around? he asks the others. His opinion only all to obvious
May 25, 2023 6:00 am
Martina picks herself up and brushes herself off. "I guess I'm out of practice." She laughs nervously as she begins to pick up her gear and prepare to move onward. "Whatever you think, Garic. You lead the way." she offers in reply to the goblin's question.
May 26, 2023 7:30 pm
Vienne, while sore, bursts out laughing. "I haven't fallen from a tree in...oh years. Great fun! I'm fine with continuing on." She brushes herself off and strikes a pose to indicate just how healthy she still is, and is ready for adventure.
May 27, 2023 6:30 pm
You push deeper into the forest. The ground becomes murkier the farther you venture. Soon you have to carefully look for paths through the forest as more and more ponds and puddles are scattered across the area. You can hear frogs croaking, insects buzz around you and your steps are all accompanied by the sound of the soggy ground giving way when stepping down and then sticking to your soles when you lift your feet back up.
A stagnant smell that reminds you of foul eggs is wavering in the air.
Just as you enter an "island" of solid ground in the middle of a particularly murky area six creatures jump out of the mud.
The are bipedal humanoids but generally have the appearance of frogs. The creatures are a bit shorter than you but seem to be pretty bulky, especially the legs look pretty muscular. They are wearing shirts that looks like chainmail made from plant fibers, caked in mud.
In their hands they hold crude spears.
Three are on each of your sides.
One of them opens its mouth and it begins to talk in a very deep voice.
You are in the territory of Goog the Tiny. *Ribbit* Come with us and Goog will decide your faith for the crime of trespassing
May 28, 2023 1:26 pm
With a smile at the frogmen Garic replies We do not mean any harm. We are just on our wat to Icespire peak and he points out the mountain. What is the usual punishment for trespassing? he asks innocently
Garic gives his comrades a look to get ready for action if things get violent.
May 29, 2023 9:32 pm
Punishment is decided by Goog's wisdom. Sometimes Goog decides that you have to pay gold. Sometimes Goog locks you in a cage to think about your crime. Sometimes Goog makes your stuff hers and you leave our lands naked.
Now... less questions, more following us.
the frogman replies
Three frogman crawl out of the mud and position themselves in front of you while the other three take positions behind you
May 31, 2023 3:53 pm
Martina turns around, eyeing up the assembled frogmen. "I suppose we could meet your leader." she says cautiously."If she's as wise as you say, I'm sure we can come to an amicable agreement."
May 31, 2023 6:29 pm
Garic nods in agreement but keeps his shields ready
Jun 1, 2023 7:57 pm
Vienne doesn't want to leave the land naked, so she hopes Martina is right. Also....Goog the Tiny? This is the first time she has heard 'tiny' as something to be proud of. She speaks quietly to the group, unable to keep her thoughts just to herself. "Why not 'the Wise' or 'the Powerful'? Can this Goog control their size, and smaller is better?"
Last edited June 1, 2023 7:58 pm

Sprout moves slowly along with the others, quite enjoying the refreshment of the water on his lower roots. He isn't enjoying the spears pointed at him though. He answers Vienne's question with a nervous and shaky tone. "I'm uncertain... perhaps her size indicates her intelligence?"
Jun 3, 2023 5:16 pm
The frogmen lead you through the swamp while you wonder who this Goog the Tiny is. The ground is getting murkier and is littered with puddles and slippery tree roots. The trees are getting denser too. The only really positive thing is that you are getting closer to Icespire peak. It takes a while during which the sun is getting so low that you have to shield your eyes from it.
Finally you arrive at what you presume is the hometown of the frog people. A large area has been freed from most of the trees. Huts made out of wickerwork are strewn over the area. In the middle of the area is a circular palisade wall made out of tree tree trunks. Two frogmen with spears are guarding a door in the wall and you are being led there. On the way there you see that some frogmen have set up workshops where they create spears, wickerwork and other items for everyday need.
Your escort croaks at the two guards and they let you into the area behind the palisade wall.
The ground here is rather dry compared to the rest of the swamp. Along the walls you see several chests in all shapes and forms. The inside of the palisade wall has been decorated with some paintings and drapes but due to the moist atmosphere in the swamp they are all quite heavily damaged.
In the center of the area is a massive wooden platform that sits on massive wooden stilts about as high as you are. On top of the platform is a massive specimen of the frogpeople. It is about triple your height and looks quite overweight. The skin is green with purple streaks. Two massive arms are holding a wicker basket in which some slimy animals are crawling around. The frogmen are constantly pouring water on it with small cups that they refill from a barrel at their side.
The massive being sits up from its lying position and croaks something, your escort replies with some croaks and then it turns to you.
Who dares to wander my swamp? The swamp of Goog the Tiny! Have you not seen the signs my advisors made? Are you ready to pay for your actions? Goog says with a deep growling voice.
Jun 4, 2023 3:47 pm
Sprout observes the giant frog-like being for a moment and then lowers his head in humility towards Goog the Tiny. "We offer our apologies to you, great Goog the Tiny. We are but humble adventurers who know not where we have wandered into. We would offer you tribute for our actions. Perhaps we might pay a toll or perform a task?"

Garic's flame strike misses as well as his first shield Strike but the second one hits Goog's knee leaving a nasty gash

Sprout's spear attacks both hit and leave another set of wounds.

Martina's crossbow bolt hits Goog's neck causing her to scream out loud.

Vienne throws a chakram at Goog and her attack hits too.

Goog shouts orders at the frogmen. Four engage Sprout while two throw their spears at Martina.
Sprout can dodge two of the attacks but the other two hit and wound him.
Martina tries to dodge the spears but both graze her leaving some nasty wounds.

Goog raises her fist and sends it down crashing onto Garic's head. Garic sees stars flickering before his eyes and before he can react Goog grabs Garic and pulls him to her mouth.
You will be a tasty snack she screams
OOC:
Sprout and Martina take 2 damage, Garic takes 1 damage and is grappled. Garic can make a 2d6 save test on his turn to avoid being grappled. Otherwise he takes 2 damage each turn but can repeat the test on the beginning of each turn. Players near you can use an action to help you, giving you advantage on the test.

I divided Raamtentacle's initial roll into 2x 3d6 granting him two hits.
And yes you can move and attack. I took the liberty to roll an attack for Vienne aimed at Goog in order to keep the momentum going. Hope that's okay.

Sprout's spear attacks impale 2 frogmen who topple to the ground after looking at their wounds.

Garic's whirlwind attack misses the first but fully hits the second time. Goog screams loudly but is interrupted by the two chakrams of Vienne and the bolt of Martina that hit in quick succession.

The two frogmen who threw their spears at Martina draw crude daggers and run at Garic trying to cut him while another two engage Sprout and try to stab him.
Goog meanwhile seems to be fully commited to eat Garic. Even though she's heavily wounded bleeding from several gashes that she received, she once again tries to hit Garic's head and then grab him.

But her wounds seem to take their toll causing Goog to wildly flail araound without hitting anything.
One of the frogmen seem to be able to get a stab through Garic's defenses while the other one misses.

Sprout meanwhile receives two hits from the frogmen, on of them only narrowly missing his eye and grazing his head instead

While Sprout is keeping the frogmen at bay, Martina fires two bolts but Goog can dodge both. But this tiny distraction gives Garic just enough time to ram his two shields into Googs knees. Goog slumps onto her knees but is about to get up which is prevented by Vienne's chakram that delivers the final blow, ending the life of the strange froggy being that wanted to eat her.
Goog drops to the ground and then there is silence. For a few seconds.

Then the remaining frogs scream and run out the gate.
You are now alone in the "room" with Goog. Outside the walls you can hear a lot of commotion going on but it sounds like the frogmen are rather panicked than aggressive.
What do you want to do?
Jun 23, 2023 12:46 am
Looking aroung Garic declares It feels to me that we have liberated these frog men from and oppressive, and glutonous dictator. with hints of self righteousness that stugle with doubt and unease. This is the first person Garic helped kill. While it was self defence he does not like killing people but that Goog gave them not choice. I hope the Goog hasn't waylaid too many victims.
Garic moves to the door to peer outside and keep an eye on the frog men. But he is a bit distracted by memroies of stories running through his head. The hero always gets a reward after defeating the villan in their lair but this situation is not quite what Garic expectd for his adventure. Still he can't help looking around the room, Maybe there was something left from previous adventurers that Goog waylaid. See if there are any personal items. We can try and return them to their families That seems the best compromise between honor, his fantasies from the stories, and the reality of the situation

"Vienne, you landed the killing blow. Maybe you can try and command the remaining frogmen. It would be great if they could at least help us get out of this place and back on track."
Jun 24, 2023 5:17 pm
Martina nods. "This settlement of theirs may be primitive, but I can't help but be impressed by what they built here. It would be a shame to leave the place in chaos." She turns her eyes upward thoughtfully. "Goog said something about advisors—halfway literate ones, apparently. If we want to talk to representatives of this community, perhaps that's who we should look for."
Jun 24, 2023 8:39 pm
Good idea but those are likely to be involved in the middle of the chaos. Any who were unhappy with the Goog may take this opportunity to take it out on the Good advisors or the advisors could now be contending for the position of becoming the new Goog. I'm not that great at politics but I loved hearing war stories and many of the great wars began with the fall of a leader. If you have an idea I will help out.
Garic likes the idea of getting the frogmen settled down. Maybe if they did then they could establish peaceful trade with their neighbors.
Jun 24, 2023 9:07 pm
"Um..I can try." Vienne moves to the room exit and looks out at what she can see of the froggy chaos. As she speaks, she attempts to use her magic to make her voice louder so that all of them can hear her. If it works. "I am Vienne the...Mystic, slayer of Goog the Tiny!" Well, one of them anyway. She gave herself the title simply to mimic Goog, just incase it was a cultural thing. Ahki raised his head from her shoulder to let out a hiss of support. "I need all of you to stop what you're doing and remain calm." If they could anymore...
OOC:
and if the voice thing is something I can actually do with spell touched :)
Jun 24, 2023 9:43 pm
Garic quickly sifts through the chests. Most of the contents seem to be benign items like damaged clothes or simple jewelry made from bone, wood or crude metal.
Three pieces catch his eyes though.
-A finely crafted heart-shaped amulet that can be opened and contains a tiny but detailed painting of a bearded man carrying a child on his shoulders.
-A simple golden ring with the word "Maria" carved in the inside
-A sturdy leather tube with a carrying strap. The top can be screwed off and you can see that it contains a letter.

Meanwhile the frogmen seem to frantically discuss among each other until Vienne magically enhances her voice and tells the frog people to stop. They all immediately stop and stare at her. After a minute of slightly awkward silence a frogman with a staff steps forward. The staff is as big as the frogman with a wicker basket at the top which contains fireflies that whizz around inside it. It uses the staff to push four smaller and by the looks of it, younger, frogmen towards Vienne.
It begins to talk Oh Vienne the Mystic! Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Kroxa, shaman and former advisor to Goog. In the most subservient way possible I want to offer my services to you. Not that you need them, as your wisdom is as unlimited as the skies, but just to take the weight of tasks from your shoulders that are too mundane to bother you*Ribbit*
But first: We see that you and your circle of warriors are truly worthy to lead and protect us *Crooooak*
It is only just to offer you a fitting meal after your exhausting fight to replenish your strength. Please take these four younglings! They gladly offer themselves to nourish you.

The four younglings gaze at you expectantly and you are not sure how to interpret their facial expression
Jun 24, 2023 11:20 pm
Suddenly inspired Garic steps forward and mimics Vienne's spell
Vienne the Mystic does not rely on the consumption of others to augment her might! She refuses them as a meal but will instead take their life of service, until she has no need of them!
Pausing a moment he Continues
Vienne the Mystic will now take council with Kroxa! Approach shaman that wisdom may grow through the sharing! and gestures for the shaman to enter the Goog hut while waving for the 4 younglings to join him to the side of the tent.

Rather proud of his performance he sneaks a peak back at Vienne and the others and whispers I will try to get a feel for tribe life from the youngling who are less likely to be crafty as the shaman while you negotiate with him
Jun 25, 2023 12:09 am
Pleased with Garic intervening, as she had no idea how to handle being offered froglings as food, she waved to the shaman in an indication to come forward. She whispered to Garic as he passed by.

"Thanks, and good idea. Hopefully this will prove useful."
Jun 25, 2023 6:20 pm
Sprout steps behind Vienne's right shoulder, keeping his imposing presence looming over the conversation.
OOC:
Awesome job guys! Great posts!
Jun 25, 2023 6:29 pm
Kroxa bows down deeply and loudly exclaims Your wisdom is without limits! Of course the younglings are better used as your most loyal servants than as food! They will gladly join! Now let's hold conference!
You still have difficulty to interpret the facial expressions of the young frogmen but you think you see a glimmer of relief on their face.

Vienne and whoever want to join go back into the walled off area. Kroxa beckons you to sit down on the platform while the shaman sits down in front of it, right next to Goog's corpse.

The shaman speaks again *KROAX!* Please allow me Kroxa, your most loyal servant, to welcome you again as our new leaders. Now more than ever we need your wisdom and strength to guide us. Our tribe is troubled by two main problems that only your highness can help with
At first the Fey are still hunting and gathering in our grounds. I even invented a sign that tells every passerby to get off but they simply ignored it.

The second on is that the mountain
Kroxa points at the Icespire Peak still has the mystical lights at its top. They bother our kind and since they've appeared trolls have come down the mountain several times. They only linger down here for a short time but they've already eaten more than twenty of our kind.
Can I, your most loyal servant, bother you with thinking about how to address these problems?

Meanwhile, to the side of the wall, the 4 younglings stare at Garic expectantly with their big, black eyes
Jun 25, 2023 7:37 pm
Having opted to join the conference, Martina speaks up. "Then we should arrange a meeting with a representative from the Fey. Perhaps they will be more amenable to negotiation with Vienne as leader than they were with Goog. Do you know where the Fey settlement is?"

"And the lights — yes, we've seen them too and already intend to investigate. Though perhaps we should quicken our pace, to stop these trolls attacks as soon as possible." She looks to her companions as she speaks this last thought.

I will keep up but wont post till the others call me or finish up. I am not good at politics and negotiations, neither is Garic so he/I will stay out of it for now. Good luck!
Jun 26, 2023 2:00 am
She took a moment and nodded to agree with Martina. "Indeed, I think speaking to a representative would do good, perhaps we can broker a truce between you and the Fey. Or at least the beginnings of one, as trolls coming from the mountain does seem to be a somewhat larger problem. As we were headed there to investigate on our own, the group of us shall continue to head that way when we are able."

Vienne pauses for a moment before asking Kroxa more. "What is it that Goog had planned for these issues?" It might prove entirely useless, but it could also give an idea of the feelings between the groups.
Jun 29, 2023 6:43 pm
Kroxa bows down so deep that the head of the frogman nearly touches the ground.
Of course a truce! Goog had me paint and hang up signs that told the Fey to keep out but your plan is clearly better. They have a giant fortress just outside the swamp the the west. There you could broker a truce.
But the trolls are of much greater concern. The fey only trespass and hunt our food. The trolls clearly terrify our people. Goog was about to create an army to fend them off when you disposed her in your wisdom

Garic meanwhile learns a bit about the culture of the frogmen

- The younglings don't have a profession yet but one of them wants to become a craftsman and learn how to produce wicker work. Their names all are very similar croak sounds.
- The tribe mostly lives from gathering or hunting small animals. They hardly cook them but rather eat them raw.
- The frogs don't seem to be too concerned with politics. Usually the strongest frogman takes over the tribe and in exchange for food and other amenities they coordinates defense, talk and trade with strangers and sometimes sort out quarrels amongst the frogmen. Seldomly a not so strong but tricky frog takes over the tribe. Sometimes the tribe leader demands some kind of sacrifice from the population usually food or crafted goods, very seldomly frogmen themselves are sacrificed. Other than that the frogmen live their life rather unconcerned by their leadership
- The only 'army' the frogmen have are the personal guard of the tribe leader. They usually take care of most threats to the tribe. In extraordinarily threatening scenarios the rest of the population is armed or the frogmen flee to an other place.
- Religion is practically non-existent. Frogmen are more concerned with their day-to-day life rather than worshipping deities
- While the personal guard seem to sometimes rob passer-bys on order of their leader the rest of the population don't seem to participate in such deeds.
- Most frogmen are concerned with gathering food. Some are concerned with crafting simple goods like wicker work, weapons, pottery, clothes and tools.
- Most of the buildings are made with wicker work.
Jun 29, 2023 6:55 pm
"Do the trolls threaten the fey as well? Common enemies often make for stronger allies."
Jun 29, 2023 7:10 pm
Kroxa turns to Sprout and bows down Oh! How wise of you! We don't know it but it could very well be. Of course! If they are bothered too they could be allies. As long as they keep off our grounds of course
Jun 29, 2023 11:53 pm
"Perhaps if we can become allies regarding the trolls, we can set up a beneficial trade between your peoples. The fae clearly desire your food, perhaps they can trade you things for it instead of stealing it."
Jun 30, 2023 9:40 pm
It seems to Garic these are much like him and his friends save they live in the swamp and the frog men have not needed or bothered with higher manufacturing processes. He talks with the youth about his own trade as an Herbalist asking about their own local lore.
Thinking to himself I bet that shaman knows all the good local plants. I should compare notes with him later
He talks about his own village and his adventures since leaving home while he awaits a resolution from inside. He does question them a bit about the Goog It seems that the Goog's demands is a good way to get in a fight. Surely most chiefs are not as bad as the Goog was. Why was the Good so demanding and unfriendly?
Jul 1, 2023 10:56 pm
Martina nods approvingly. "I have to admit, I agree with Goog's plan to raise an army. A competent defense force is a necessity if the town is under threat. I for one would be happy to share what combat skills I have to help train up new recruits. But then an alliance could be more valuable still. I think then the Fey fortress should be our next destination."
Jul 2, 2023 9:35 am
Oh yes. Trade! So wise! Kroxa loudly exclaims And yes an army. Unfortunately you disposed of some of Goog's followers but of course you were right to do so! You are clearly a much better off without those disloyal *ribbit* *Croak*
Kroxa calls out at the door and shortly after a frogman with a crude bow on its back enters.
This is Froog. Our best scout. She will show you the way to the fey fortress. Do you need anything else?
Froog makes a deep bow
One of the younglings whose name is Krooax (or at least it sounds like this) answers Old boss was Ribbit. Old, fat and wise. Very good for peace. But trouble with Fey began and Ribbit didn't stop them. Goog challenged his power and promised to stop the Fey. His guard changed loyalty, killed him and Goog took his place.
Jul 6, 2023 8:36 pm
But you must be tired! Mighty warriors need much rest! Kroxa loudly exclaims. The frogman communicates with its fellows in their native language and after a while frogmen come in with blankets and baskets full of food. The food looks... interesting. Mostly insects and worms from the swamp but also some strips of meat and fish. If you make a fire you could surely roast them.
You see that the sun begins to set so it's probably best to rest for the day.

The night is uneventful and in the morning Froog the scout is ready to lead you to the fey fortress. Even though Froog doesn't talk very much the scout does a good job on directing you through the swamp. You traverse it much quicker than you'd have been able on your own and after just two hours you see the 'fortress'.
But it's not really a fortress but rather an outpost. It seems as if the Fey have set up camp in a glade just outside the swamp. A large fire is burning in the middle of the glade and a rack with meat is placed beside it, probably to dry the food. Several platforms have been constructed in the branches of the surrounding trees and you can hear voices singing and laughing.
I wait outside while you deal with intruders Froog croaks. So far the Fey don't seem to have noticed you
OOC:

Jul 7, 2023 10:28 am
Garic watches the fey. From the look of it this seems to be a hunting camp. Most of them are carrying bows and long knives and are wearing a leather vest as armor.
The camp seems to be busy processing their last hunt. Animal carcasses are cut up and processed. Meat is dried by the fire and furs are stacked up at the side.

Garic squints his eyes and counts the Fey. He thinks he can make out about 20 of them. About half of them seem to be really fitted for combat with bows, knives and armor. The rest seem to be unarmed helpers who have no obvious weapons on them. He also makes out two armed fey on a platform facing your direction but they don't seem to have noticed you. If you choose to approach the camp those two would be the first one to talk to.... or kill...
Jul 12, 2023 2:42 am
I think we should just go and talk with them. It is not like they have been attacking the frogs. Garic says looking to the others. If there are no objections they he will move to approach the elven camp, shields at the ready just in case.
Jul 12, 2023 3:43 pm
"That sounds fair to me. We are here to forge an alliance, after all." Sprout will proceed with Garic, taking the lead with his weapons stowed to present a Natural and friendly face.
Jul 12, 2023 4:38 pm
Vienne nods quickly, no reason to be hostile right off the bat. She follows slightly behind the other two comfortably.
Jul 12, 2023 8:52 pm
Froog watches with bewilderment in their eyes as you just walk up to the camp but stays back. Suddenly your hear a sharp whistle and the voices in the camp stop.
Who walks there? And what do you want? you hear from one of the Fey on the platform in the trees facing you. He has a longbow in his hand but hasn't drawn up an arrow
Jul 12, 2023 9:32 pm
Holding his hands up to be clear that he's unarmed, Sprout calls back.

"My name is Sprout and I've got a few friends here with me. We're adventurers really but we've gotten involved in some things here in the swamp. Right now we're here on behalf of the frogmen. We seek to negotiate."
Jul 12, 2023 10:56 pm
You come on behalf of the froggies? Hahahaha the fey begins to laugh but he's interrupted by a voice from within the camp in a language you don't understand. They exchange a few sentences then the fey turns to you. You may enter but keep your weapons sheathed

You enter the camp. As you saw from further away a large fire burns in the middle of the glade. People are busy processing hunted animals and harvested plants.
A hut made out of reeds is on one side of the glade and two people are sitting on a mat in front of it. One is a female fey with a head dress made out of antlers and gem stones. The other fey is male and is wearing a simple green robe. A long green dagger that looks as if it's made from glass is hanging from a belt that holds the robe together.
He begins to talk in a coarse voice So you are here to negotiate on behalf of the frogmen... Interesting. What are the offers and demands?
Jul 13, 2023 7:37 am
Martina bows her head and curtsies before speaking up. "The frogmen have only one request which is that their territorial integrity be respected. They would ask merely that your people refrain from conducting business within their borders without permission. In their eyes, this is the only prerequisite for friendly relations between your two settlements. I am sure neither side wishes to antagonize the other, and cooperation could bear fruit in the form of trade or mutual protection against common threats. I have, for instance, been informed of recent incidents of trolls entering the area. It seems only reasonable to work together in the face of such a danger."

Jul 15, 2023 1:18 pm
"The frogmen were recently under the rule of Goog the Tiny, who was inclined to try and kill everything that crossed them. They would truly like a cooperative arrangement between your two peoples." Vienne turns with Garic, also trying to encourage Froog.
Jul 17, 2023 12:08 am
Reluctantly and only after a lot of encouragement from your side Froog comes into the Fey camp.
For a while the two fey and the frogman silently stare at each other. Finally Froog begins to speak.
You come into our territory, steal our fish, harvest our worms and plants. Our new leaders here Froog points at you are very mighty. Will crush you if you don't stop trespassing.
Your erm... leaders wanted to discuss an agreement to end hostilities. Are they truly the new leaders of your tribe? the male fey responds
Yes... killed the old leader. Killed Goog in a mighty battle. Goog was very mighty but new leaders are so much more mighty. Will crush you if you don't stop trespassing Froog answers
We have need for the plants and animals that dwell in your lands. We make medicine and potions out of them. And we use the Dewali herb for our ceremonies. the female fey responds.
Then use other herb. All stinky herbs are the same... Froog counters.
No they are not the fey responds and rubs her nose bridge, visibly annoyed.
Maybe you want to trade? Shiny coins? the male fey responds.
Yes trade! Froog calls out Five wagons full of shiny gold coins
That's too much the fey answers
Our lands are very valuable! Five wagons shiny coins and we can keep the horses that bring them
That's outrageous!
Only fair price.

Both the fey and Froog seem to be getting angrier
Maybe you can relax the situation.
Jul 17, 2023 12:56 am
Martia adopts an imperious tone. "Silence, Froog!" she snaps. "As your mighty leaders, we decide the terms of the deal, not you!"

She turns back to address the fey representatives. "Some of our subjects can be excitable. But be assured—we will keep them under control. What would you say to this: we will grant your people access to frogman territory where they may gather all the herbs they wish, but the fish and other resources that our subjects use will be off limits. Then we can put an end to the harassment your people have suffered at frogman hands and open the door to further cooperation."
Jul 17, 2023 1:36 am
Garic moves over to Froog Froog, what would you do with coin anyhow? Would it not be better to get som of the potions they make with the herbs? If they take herbs for 4 potions and give your tribe one then you would not need coin and still profit from the plants on your land. Being part of his families apothecary business in the rural area Garic is familiar with farmers and trappers protectiveness of "their land" and any real understanding of commers. "Okay, so Martina and Garic have good ideas that work together. The frogmen need their land's food and resources, so limits on trade is smart. Exchanging some of the finished goods seems fair." She turns to the fey. "You can't just steal things from other people and then get angry when they retaliate. The things important to your peoples are just as important to them - and on thier land." She then turns to Froog. "You can't demand anything you want as compensation and not expect refusal. The point is to negotiate a compromise between your peoples. Starting it off with threats isn't a good way, it will only increase hostility overall regardless if it is temporarily successful."
Jul 18, 2023 5:49 pm
"Very well said, Lady Vienne. A fair and equitable assessment that may please all."
Jul 20, 2023 7:11 pm
Froog ducks down a bit under Martina's strict reprehension. Yes of course he mutters and takes a few steps back.

The female fey takes Garic's suggestion in consideration and answers I'm afraid that our potions are not guaranteed to work on the frogmen the same way they do on us. They could be poisonous to them.
But in general your words are true we should cooperate rather than stoking hostilities. Especially as the trolls are starting to invade our territory as well

True the male fey responds We could offer meat strips made from the deer in our territory in exchange for the herbs
MEAT STRIPS! Froog calls out but then looks at Martina and bows their head and takes another step back

If this deal is acceptable for you it would be acceptable for us too. Is there anything else you want to discuss. Are you doing something about the trolls? They seem to be driven away from Icespire Peak since the old castle has shown signs of life
Jul 20, 2023 8:48 pm
"I will allow Lady Vienne to speak regarding the agreement, but on the matter of the trolls I do have a suggestion. We individuals intend to find some method to prevent the incursion of nearby the nearby trolls into this general area. Perhaps it would be advantageous for both the Fey and the Frogmen to forge an alliance along protective lines as well. Whilst we are away, both sides could assign a greater guard to make sure things stay safe at home."
Jul 26, 2023 4:53 pm
"Well, it certainly seems like Froog is interested. As long as the amounts on both sides work out, I think it should be fine."
Jul 29, 2023 7:14 pm
Froog hesitantly nods. It seems like the frogmen is just happy that you've reached a consesus.
Let's celebrate this occasion with a cup of Kumis! the male fey calls out and some fey are hurrying away and return with a tray of wooden cups containing a white liquid.
It's fermented deer milk the female fey explains.
Froog drinks the cup in one big gulp, while the fey drink them by sipping from them occasionally.
The female fey whispers something in the ear of the male fey who nods, harrumphs and begins to talk
A detail we should tell you. A young scout called Taren went up Icespire Peak a moon ago and we haven't heard back from her since. Shortly after she left lights began to appear at the castle on top and the trolls began to come down. It could be a coincident or these events could be connected. We thought that you should know that and that you may be on the lookout for Taren. Maybe she's in trouble but we also fear for the worst.
Aug 5, 2023 1:45 am
Garic takes a cup of the drink and coppies the elves and sips it carefully. Likely they will need to talk with the frogmen shaman about letting his people get drunk and taken advantage of by the more socially skilled elves.

Thanks. We will be heading there after settling things here. If it common for the elves to scout the mountains?
Is there anything else you can tell us about the castle?
Also it may be best for us to try and avoid the trolls, please describe their typical behaviors, and how they act now if it differs.
Aug 5, 2023 1:53 am
Well this drink sounded...not great. But after Vienne carefully took a sip, she realized that she had drank worse - or equivalent - at the tavern. "What was Taren looking for, and do you know the specific area she was heading to? It seems like a decent place to start. If it's unrelated then it's a large coincidence."
Aug 5, 2023 7:13 pm
In fact it is forbidden to scout the mountain and especially the castle due to... the male fey begins to talk but he's interrupted by his colleague ...Reasons we can't tell you. Taren however is a young ambitious scout who always wanted to test the limits of what is allowed and what she's capable of. One night she sneaked out of our village, leaving a note that she will uncover the mysteries of the caste ontop Icespire Peak. Unfortunately we can't give you any details regarding the castle.

The male fey continues Since then the trolls are raiding the area at the base of the mountain. They attacks trading caravans, hunters and even some of our camps.
Before they lived at the flanks of the mountain hunting chamois, goats and the like but leaving the people leaving here alone. We even occasionally traded and they could be quite hospitable. But now they just behave like brutes.
They live at the side of the mountain facing us. If you want to avoid them you can try to climb the southeastern flank. It's very difficult to climb but you should be able to avoid the trolls that way.

Garic thanks the fey for their assistance and continues sipping on the milk while. He will see who among the fey is knowledgeable in herbal lore and compare his knowledge with theirs. Comparing different name and uses as well as learning any new local plants they are willing to share.
OOC:
I guess we are done here then right? off to the trolls.

Trolls work for me, or at least heading there (something might happen on the way anyway)

Sprout doesn't sip or gulp the drink. Instead he simply places a finger in the cup as he's holding it and keeping conversation. Slowly the drink is absorbed as if in a root system.
OOC:
I'm cool to head for the trolls. I think Sprout would prefer the side that was less treacherous but possibly troll infested.

Garic will pull the others asside for a bit to discuss their next step. He is not overly confident in the frogment, other than the shaman, but is also anxious to move on..
Should we go talk with the Frogshaman before moving on or just head out in the morning?
I am fine with a more direct aproach as long as everyone agrees. A good fight could be fun though I hear trolls are a tough lot. Then again I guess they are about yoru size Sprout
OOC:
I dont feel the need to role play the return to the frogmen camp but I am underwhelmed with the frogmen representative we have. Basically just go back, perhaps with an elven representative to make sure they get things worked out. Yes garic has a bit of a hero complex and tries to save everyone. :)

You all drink as much Kumis as you want, especially Froog drinks 3 cups and is visibly impaired after the last cup. Having brokered a hopefully lasting peace you decide to head back to the frogmen camp. You are greeted goodbye and the two leaders of the camp seem to be glad that they no longer have to fight the frogmen.
By Garic's request a fey representative accompanies you back to the frogmen's settlement. After about half of the way you have to carry Froog as the scout isn't able to walk in a straight line anymore.
Kroxa, the shaman greets you as you arrive. He's a bit suspicious of the fey representative but he pledges to uphold peace and protect the diplomat.
As it has turned to night when you arrive at the frogmen's settlement you decide to sleep and rest for your ascent of Icespire Peak...
OOC:
Chapter 1 has ended. Now let's find out what is hiding on top Icespire Peak
