"To arms my friends!" Horace shouts as he readies his sword and shield. "While we have this time to prepare, let those strong of arm guard the door and protect the others. I will, of course, be in the front. Once the skeletons break through the door, we should try and keep them in the doorway. With this group, I have full confidence that we shall prevail. Remember, no skeleton will make it through this door."

Swallowing dry, Eagerwish gripped his sickle sword more tightly and stood next to Horace.
"This adventuring profession includes far more killing than one would expect."
OOC:
Are we able to position ourselves so that only one of the skeletons can stand at the hallway at any given time and try to decapitate them one-by-one Czecspecem style? May be a little wonky initiative-wise, but could perhaps make sense narratively if we take turns with the attacks?

Theo suggests: "I have an oil flask. If someone else wants to lob a torch at 'em, I'll throw this right into their midst and maybe we can thin the herd a little."
OOC:
Otherwise, he is fine with just maintaining the door as a choke point and lopping off skulls with his battle-axe.

Wilric takes a step or two back testing his bow string before laying a few arrows before him. Pulling free his lantern the plucky Halfling lights it and points it towards the door, hoping to illuminate the skeletons.

Medwyn stands as far back from the door as possible. He tries to spin his dagger in a flourish, but it clatters to the floor. He sheepishly retrieves it and clears his throat before assuming an obviously untrained defense posture, with his feet too close together. He is, at least, pointing the dagger in the right direction, though.
OOC:
New character art for my boy Medwyn. I used to have hair not altogether dissimilar to this, haha.

The party creates a formation around the door and discusses battle tactics as they wait for the door-enchantment to fade. Forty seconds is all it takes, when suddenly the door crashes open and skeletons begin pushing through. You are prepared, and only allow one to make its way out as another enters the doorway. The nine that are not able to exit seem to have basic spatial reasoning, as they reach through and try to attack without any luck, but do not just shove against each other.

OOC:
The way we'll do this is I'll have everyone who is trying to make an attack get to attack, and then I'll work it out on my end. It may not be true to form, but it's a good strategy and I'd hate to see it wasted. Plus, there's still a good chance a few will survive and take some of you down with them.

OOC:
I don't imagine Medwyn will be making an attack as long as there are still more martial types in the front line blocking the door. Unfortunately, he has somewhat exhausted his usefulness in these circumstances, hehe.

As the door splinters Wilric releases a couple of arrows into the advancing skeletons. Attempting to not hit his companions . . .

Theophroneus Benightus takes a powerful stance, with his shield raised and his axe pulled as far back over his head as possible as he attempts to bring it crashing down in a heavy downward arc upon one of these blighted creatures.
OOC:
Also, just a reminder that he has 14 DEX so he can use the super-neato parry/dodge for Fighter (aka -1 to their attacks against him)

Rolls

Attack vs Skeleton (battle-axe) - (1d20+1, 1d8)

With baited breath Horace awaits the skeletons arrival. Once the door crashes open, he finds the nearest Skeleton and swings his sword.

Raising his weapon alongside his companions, Eagerwish waits for them to eliminate the first bone-men and prepares to cut down the ones that come afterwards.
His other hand raises the shield, protecting the druid from possible harm.

As the first skeleton passes the doorway, the party begins trying to strike it down before it can harm any of them. They manage to hit it with several good strikes, but fail to put it back to the earth. It goes after Eagerwish with its wicked blade, but fails to find an opening in the druid's defenses.
OOC:
As a note, the skeletons have AC11. Shouldn't be too hard to hit them.

It is your turns again.

With no way to flank the skeletons Wilric again stays back looking for gaps in which to fire an arrow or two . . .

A wicked light heretofore unseen dances in Theophroneus' eyes as he raises his axe for another downward stroke, mindful of his comrades in close proximity.

An arrow strikes down the first skeleton, and the second bursts through just in time to find Theo's axe smiting it back to death. Several more begin moving to the door, pushing through and trying to slay the living.
OOC:
Two skeletons down, out of ten. This isn't the prettiest combat, but I'm going to assume that for each skeleton that dies another pops up into its place. That should keep us from stalling out waiting for another to walk in a full round later.
Apr 17, 2023 7:53 pm
Eagerwish screams as the skeleton's sword bites into his shield and starts flailing the wooden disk wildly, until an arrow strikes the undead down. Collecting himself during the death of the second foe, he then tries to decapitate the third one.

Damage - (1d6)

Theo grins as his axe shatters the first skeleton, his forward momentum bringing his upper body downwards. As another moves in to take it's place, he attempts to swing his axe upwards in a backhanded swipe through it's ribcage.

OOC:
I wasn't sure if we are going in any particular order, but feel free to move that action down the line anywhere it belongs.

Seeing the skeletons fall to the ground, Horace knows that the gods are showing their favor. He swings his sword as an offering to the gods.

OOC:
Ah, I do have 10 pints of lamp oil that I overlooked. Could I chuck one of those into the room, and one of my companions follow it up with a torch to light a fire under these bone bois?
