Oh no, I didn't see that. Perhaps a different course of action then? I'm not sure how this would resolve. Is that action just wasted, would I roll to help, or should Izuhn do something else?

OOC:
So a quick hack to get the -1 penalty is to check a wound box before rolling and then unchecking it :D

@RAAMtentacles the need for help was well spotted, but testlum is right. We can completely redo the action if you want to try something else.

You can always roll to help with the multiple helper's rules, where you also roll yourself (adding another -1 penalty from 1 helper). If you do that, I can even have Fizel join and help, but that requires a roll with a -2 penalty from 2 helpers.

I'll go with another plan of action, disregarding the previous post.
Seeing Agna struggling to get free, Izuhn moves to try and eliminate what threat he can. He pulls the spear from the plank it is embedded in and thrusts towards one of the surrounding hands but not the one grappling Agna. He successfully skewers another hand, creating a kabob sort of effect on the spear.

Losing her balance with the monstrous hands grappling her, Agna topples onto the salt-crusted planks. She sputters with outrage. Unable to regain her footing, the orc settles for rolling over, hoping to squash the hand with her full weight.

Rotten hands
The three hands left manage to work together to trip Agna. Just as the orc falls, one of the hands is looses its grip and flies over close to Izuhn. The dwarf pulls the fish creature's spear and skews the free hand in no time.

The fish creature, seeing Agna fall, tries to gain the upper hand by taking out Izuhn with its claws.
OOC:
The Sahuagin attacking Izuhn is a sort of taunt move, making him a priority.
Realizing she won't be able to stand up as the hands are trying to restraining her, Agna starts to roll around the wooden floor, luckily managing to catch one in a bad position with enough pressure to crack its fingers.

OOC:
Just a quick summary of the situation. We have the Sahuagin attacking Izuhn (doesn't change anything, except hinting at the consequences of a fail) and one hand left trying to grab Agna. Once those are dealt with, the room looks empty.
Apr 18, 2023 9:08 am
Agna grabs hold of one of the wooden frames of the ship, pulling herself upright. She aims a hard kick at the last hand. Undeterred by its fallen brethren, the hand jerks aside before leaping at Agna and wrapping itself around her throat.

No longer able to ignore the direct presence of the Sahuagin, Izuhn grasps the spear and begins sparring with the creature. The two trade blows but Izuhn's armor protects him from the creature's claws. It proves less resistant to the spear though and suffers several deep gashes from the exchange. The creature lunges at Izuhn, intent on trying a more powerful and perhaps killing blow, only to find the spear lodged deep into its gut, suffering a killing blow itself.

Fizel Axebreaker

OOC:
agna rolled doubles below her skill level, so she gets an experience she can use for a +1 bonus on a future action. This could be noticing something about the hand behavior that will help you fight off the next one, or how to balance on something during high sea combat or anything else you find suitable she may have noticed.
Fizel Axebreaker
With only one severed hand left, Agna easily stands up. The hand quickly realises it can't pin down the orc and drop to the floor, changing strategy from restrain to kill as it jumps straight at Agna's throat.

As Agna struggles to breath from the surprisingly strong grasp of the hand, the scratching sound of the fish creature's claws hitting Izuhn armour's metal strips echoes trhough the room. After a quick exchange of blows, the dwarf manages to pierce the creature, it's scales unable to provide enough protection from the sharp spear.

Fizel quickly moves inside the room and grabs the remaining hand from Agna's neck, crushing it under his foot. As the room falls quiet, you look around, checking for any other hidden threats.
OOC:
Ok, that's it. No other visible threats inside this room. There's a lot or broken stuff around, stairs down from where the Sahuagin came from, and the door back to the deck where the captain was last time you saw her.

Agna coughs, rubbing at the raw skin where the hand had tried to throttle her. "We should join back with the captain. After that, I don't trust anything on this ship to be safe."

"I agree. She may have ran into similar difficulties."

As they're moving back, something terrible dawns on Izuhn. "Could the splash into the water have been one of those terrible creatures?"
Apr 21, 2023 1:36 am
"Might be at that. Can't do anything 'bout that now, though. One mess at a time, eh?"
Apr 21, 2023 2:04 am
"I'd hate to return to that same mess our our ship too. Let's keep an eye out, even back there."
Apr 21, 2023 4:02 am
"Aye. I'll be glad to set down on land again, away from all this nonsense. Fishmen!" Agna agrees.

Cap'n Harkin
While you're discussing possible connections between these fishpeople and the strange event early in your travel, you hear a loud scream and some quick sounds of battle. You rush outside (Fizel staying a little behind to check the room) to see one of the sailors stumbling out of the opposite door surrounded by wet algae. He falls motionless revealing another of those fishmen behind. Seeing you, the creature stops for a brief moment, just enough for a rapier to pierce where you'd assume it heart is.

"It looks like we have unexpected guests" The captain says as she notices you. Pulling her sword from the dead creature and immediately cleaning the blood like liquid from it. "The ship's not doing well. Will probably sink before we make to port. These timbers saw more than a simple storm. Some of the marks are from something else... something big." The surviving sailors quickly drag the wounded and lean them on the side of the ship, calling out the smaller rowboats for help.

"Let's leave and hurry it along to the bottom then," Agna says. "If the fishfolk and their watery goddess want this wreck, give it to her and we can be off in peace."
Apr 22, 2023 11:36 am
The Izuhn with any sort of sense agrees with Agna, it's time to go. The trader side of Izuhn on the other hand..... well, it doesn't see any harm in looking before they leave.

"What cargo were they carrying? Any idea what may be in the hold? If we're going to scuttle the ship then we may want that first."

Captain Harkin looks at Agna, unimpressed by the orc's willingness to just let the ship sink. She quickly grabs the opportunity presented by Izuhn's uncertainty.

"In these waters? Has to be a merchant ship", she is quick to tell the dwarf. "Very few come this far north if not to try their luck selling the scrimshaw crafts, copper and silver and... some of them fine Battlehammer's weapons". She stops to look at Izuhn for moment, probably considering if he might be related to the dwarven clan.

Slowly, a greedy smile starts to show on her face. "I heard them dwarves have found some interesting new materials to play with. If true, coin will be flowing north once this winder is done." All the while she is waving her men to start removing the grate blocking the way to the lower deck
OOC:
You can leave of course, but convincing her to follow will be a persuasion with penalty for Izuhn (since he is not as keen)
Apr 24, 2023 2:57 pm
Agna folds her arms, equally irate at the captain's lack of concern. For the sake of time, she refrains from arguing - the captain's eagerness to sway Izuhn to her side made it clear how fruitless that would be. "It be all our heads you're gambling with, cap'n. Not just your own." the orc snaps. She lifts one hand to touch the dull stone tied with thong around her neck, ready to tear it off at the first sign of trouble.
Apr 24, 2023 10:01 pm
Izuhn is not lured so much by coin as he is the goods themselves. Not really a dwarf among dwarves, he's not got a special love for what the northern dwarves might forge. He can always make a trade but it isn't often that he can find a piece of history.

"Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to have a look. I don't think anything mundane is worth the danger of staying though."
