Y'all might be askeert of them Whatleys, but I ain't." The booming voice comes from somewhere in the back of the church.
Almost collectively, the townsfolk turn and look back. Several people at the rear of the nave begin to shuffle and move apart. Among the sea of heads, two large men cut through the gathered crowd like sharks. They shoulder their way forward until they reach the center aisle running between the pews. Here, they are visible to everyone in the nave.
"Big" Elroy Hurst is a mountain of a man. Standing at six feet, five inches (195.5 cm), he towers over most of the townsfolk. In fact, he's likely the tallest person in Waller Hole, second only to his nearby son. Broad-shouldered and large in countenance, the old trapper-woodsman still looks quite vital for a man in his fifties. His unwashed, craggy face is heavily bearded, and his outfit is a combination of denim clothing and animal furs. Even for a place like Holler, Elroy's appearance is notably wild looking, as though he were someone prone to spending too much time on his own in the wilderness. Big Elroy's graying hair is long, falling well passed his shoulders, and replete with a number of braids. The braids are adorned with an assortment of small animal bones and iron rings. Atop his head he sports a Davy Crockett-style fur cap made from squirrels. Around his neck, the man wears an owl skull meant to serve as some sort of protective charm. Protection from what, not many are certain.
"Little" Elroy looks very much like his father, only less ravaged by time and the outdoors. Despite his ironic moniker, Little Elroy stands a couple inches taller than Big Elroy. He shares his father's towering build and "wilderness chic" fashion sense, but his long hair and beard are a shade of chestnut brown rather than gray. Little Elroy is a known gouger, having participated in some of the most brutal gouging matches on this side of the Great Craggy Mountains, and his body bears the legacy of those fights. His rugged looks are marred by what appears to be a bite mark on his left cheek - a scar clearly left by human teeth - as well as a chunk missing from his right ear. The younger Elroy is currently carrying a felling axe, which he rests on his shoulder, as though he'd just been interrupted while splitting some firewood.
"Hows about I gather some of the men folk, and we go show them Whatleys what's what?" says Big Elroy. He glances at Maisey Clanton.
"I'll get them boys back fer ye."OOC:
If you are a native of Waller Hole, you are familiar with the Hursts. Big Elroy and his son are known hotheads and troublemakers. Both have been in trouble with the law numerous times and are not above bullying other townsfolk to get what they want. They're infamous for getting into drunken fights and for not being terribly pious. They are, however, excellent outdoorsmen and major proponents of fighting the Big Boys.
