Sorry, but where is the iron door on the map? I am not sure where the ogre is and who is near him.
Just south of the D in Dwarves. Sen Malor, bringing up the rear of the dwarves in the corridor, is the closest PC (basically right in front of the Great Ulfe and the two wolves).

I prefer not to fight the ogre and two wolves, but if no one has a story that the ogre will believe, I think we should use the surprise round to either attack or run retreat.

Agreed. We could retreat to a chokepoint so that either the wolves or orge can get to us.

Proposed plan 1: If no one has a way to convince the ogre we're not the enemy, the party retreats back to the room with the sleeping/dead orcs. They hold the door against the wolves and ogre and open it enough to let one wolf in, then hold it closed again until the wolf is dead. We repeat with the second wolf, then we fight the ogre. I don't know if we can hold the door against the ogre the whole time.

Does anyone else see other possible chokepoints on the map besides the door?

@Robago, how big is each square on the map? I assume wolves are faster than dwarves' movement of 60 feet, so this plan assumes the dwarves can make it through the door before the wolves move.

Proposed plan 2: The party retreats out of the dungeon completely, waits an hour, then returns. We set a trap (such as flaming oil) outside of the ogre's door, then call him out.

Squares are 5 feet.

PC movement in combat time ranges from 20 ft (heavily armoured) to 40 ft (unarmoured).

PCs can 'run' at their full movement rate (60 / 90 / 120), which takes up their whole turn (they can't perform any other actions, apart from dropping things).

It's a reasonable assumption that wolves are faster than dwarves.

Not sure about leaving the dungeon. Would ensure that the orcs have time to prepare and set up their own traps.

Let's try the convincing plan first?

I'm fine with the convincing plan. So far, Gromli's attempt to endear himself to Ulfe has only confused the ogre. I assume the other orcs were his "subjects" too, so it's probably best not to mention them.

Right now I'm missing the last magic-user I played, who spoke Ogre and had a decent Charisma!

I'll go along with whatever plan you settle on. Probably best to keep the two remaining dwarves outside of the room, to avoid spooking the monster!

What if someone tells Ulfe the party is here to find him so he can lead us down through the mountain?

Worth trying!

Dalo's 10 Charisma is actually the highest in the party! Not exactly diplomats, these dwarves...

With the PCs' Charisma scores all being pretty similar, it doesn't really matter who does the talking. If you've got an idea, don't be shy about speaking up.

I’ve been playing RPGs for only a year and I don’t know all the monsters yet. I had to look them up. They are gamely looking!

Great picture!

No wonder the orcs were scared. The stirges must have a secret ability to make their opponents roll single digits. 🙂

@Robago, can Gromli try to help Sen by grabbing the stirge and squeezing it? How much damage could he do?

I'm gonna be away from my computer tomorrow morning until Sunday evening.

My procedure for this is:
Make an attack roll against the Stirge's AC (to get a good grip).
On a success, deal 1 point of damage, plus any Strength bonus.

For a weapon attack: make an attack roll against the Stirge. If you miss, make a second attack roll against Sen Malor's AC. Deal damage as normal.

man those rolls... haven't hit anything for ages. At least I missed my ally.
