"Huzzah! Never too far off these mechanisms." Ulrich hefts his pack and unhooks his warhammer from the loop in his belt.

"Best to still be vigilant lads. Secret passages aren't just to let friends in, but to keep enemies out." Ulrich starts to carefully move down the passage, eyeing the way for pressure plates, catches and all the tricks of the trade.

Ghardak follows behind, hammer at the ready.

Gromli quietly draws his sword, makes sure everyone is safely inside, then follows the group.
OOC:
If someone else wants to take the rear guard, Gromli will follow Ghardak instead.

Remember, only a few of us have Infravision, and even that isn't amazing.
Dalomdûmir slips into the middle of the group, with Freki by his side. He tries to stay closer to the front- third position out of six- in order to best utilize the glowing torch that he pulls from his pack. Amazingly, no flame burns at the pitch, but instead the torch itself gives off an astounding amount of light! Close inspection would reveal a series of runes carved along the side of the torch itself.

Gyrmmal just sort of folds into the group. Carrying his lamp in his left and and his sword in his right.

Sen steps in second to the back -- in front of Gromli.

As you pass through the archer gallery, you notice the clever construction of the arrow-slits. They blend easily into the mountainside and would be nearly impossible to spot on the approach, and give great protection to anyone standing inside.

The floor is littered with debris, cobwebs, and rat droppings. Poorly cured hide blankets and well-gnawed bones are scattered about. Freki sniffs at one of the blankets and gives a low growl.

A short passage stretches northward (for reference, the rope-bridge ran east-west). At the far end you can see a small alcove, an apparent dead-end.

I have the marching order as:
Ulrich
Ghardak
Gyrmmal
Dalomdûmir & Freki
Sen
Gromli

Please update me if this changes or isn't correct.

OOC:
Looks correct to me.
Ghardak inspects the alcove, and to see if there's sign of another secret door.

Having seen the previous secret door, Ghardak quickly spots another of the same kind in the eastern wall of the alcove.

Gyrmmal takes a walk around the area with the dead, looking to see if there is anything laying around. He uses his sword to move some objects.

"There's another secret door here. Maybe it opens up in the same way," Ghardak says to the others. He checks for traps and a way to open it, wondering if it's the same as the previous one.

"Your dog found something, Dalomdûmir.". Gromli uses his sword to stab any bumps in the blanket.

"Check above the threshold Ghardak. Similar enough of a door, bound to have a similar mechnism." Ulrich called to Ghardak while he eyes the blanket Freki is growling at.

"Place looks like orcs have shacked up here. Mighty surprised there ain't so much dung caked into everything. He scoffed at the debris.

Dalo approaches the blanket cautiously, magically-illuminated torch in hand. In the other hand, he draws a dagger and reaches down to pull the cover aside.

Gyrmmal examines the contents scattered about the floor, but finds nothing of note. The bones are clearly from animals rather than humanoids.

Ghardak locates another two plates above this door that, when pressed, cause it to slide open. A flight of stairs going upwards is revealed, leading to a blank stone wall.

Dalomdûmir whips the blanket off the floor and a large rat scurries away, dripping a trail of blood – one of Gromli's stabs must have scored the creature's flank.

Freki leaps at the rat but just before the war-dog can snap its jaws upon it, the rodent disappears down a crack in the floor. When Freki moves away, the rat's head pops up again for a moment, shooting you an almost-human glare.

"Filthy vermin. It will be a hell of a job to be rid of them once we reclaim this place!" Ulrich huffed as he left the scene of the rat and approached the doorway beside Ghardak. He patted his shoulder and grinned.

"We'll make a burglar of you yet! Shall we leave this garbage pit?"
Jun 30, 2023 8:03 pm
"Why are we wasting time with rats? We have more important creatures to eliminate! Is that another secret door ahead? I would have thought those old dwarves would have a little more ingenuity than that!"
Jun 30, 2023 11:16 pm
"Might be another exit to the surface? I presume we're following this up then," Ghardak says.

"I think we should see where it goes. It’s always helps to know the escape routes."

Gromli turns to Sen. "Our ancestors may have built a foreboding entrance to discourage unwanted visitors."

The runecaster takes note, but is otherwise silent. It's much nicer than his usual critical manner.
