OOC:
I am a-okay with the GM rolling for me when necessary.
"I think our time is limited as it is. Kalannai can give us something seriously valuable then it may be best to head on. I doubt the fires are stopping on their own either."

Once departed, Izuhn moves with an uncanny stealth through the town. At some points the gait of his run seems to be off for what is to be expected, but nevertheless he moves efficiently towards their destination.

Agna furrows her brow. "Ice devils? Mixin' with fire elementals? What sort o' trouble have ye been brewing in this town?" As the group makes their way past the threshold of the eastern neighbourhood, Agna notes the soot blackening the walls, the charred markings left behind by whatever took place here.
Jul 20, 2023 2:28 am
Adaia will take note of the urgency and will follow Agna and Izuhn. "You're right we need to act if we're going to achieve anything on this right schedule"

Adaia doesn't move as quietly or swiftly as perhaps Izuhn but her pale complexion and dress make her blend into the snow covered environment well enough. She will let the larger 3 individuals take the lead as that seems quite wise if they do encounter any elementals still in the town.

You all decide to get this eastern neighborhood business done as fast as you can since Agna made it clear you shouldn't waste much time before heading to the Ten-Towns. Additionally, Izuhn's worries that the fire will not stop, despite the cold, just adds to the pressure.

Most of Fireshear is still in relatively good condition, untouched by the strange elemental creatures, but soon you can start to notice the damaged buildings. It is more the result of small mischief than actual destruction, with some buildings having their windows and doors frozen shut, while others slowly burn from small fires spread around.

Agna notices the soot blackening the walls, the charred markings left behind by whatever is causing this commotion and approaches it to inspect it. When she gets closer, some strange lights seem to move inside the building, like a brief bright shadow rushing past the windows. As the orc is distracted by that, the soot she was inspecting rises from the walls towards her, the smoldering ash covering her completely.
OOC:
So Agna failed that and is now blinded by the ash. The only thing the others see is the lights and Agna covered in ash.
Jul 20, 2023 10:27 am
OOC:
What do I roll for Agna to get rid of it?

I also just noticed that Agna has 1 fatigue marked on her sheet. I don't remember where it came from, but it should be removed when this chapter started right?
"Faugh!" The orc takes an immediate step back, sputtering to get the vile taste out of her mouth. She drops into a crouch, scrabbling on the ground for snow to use and scrub away the ash from her stinging eyes.

Rolls

Medicine - lv6, SR: 5-11 (f1-c0) - (2d6)

(41) = 5

Medicine - lv6, SR: 5-11 (f1-c0) - (2d6)

(36) = 9

OOC:
Yeah I think only Adaia got fatigue so far.

Removing blindness ... It's just dust in your eyes so it should go away. We can have a decreasing penalty. let's say -3 penalty to anything requiring vision, and you reduce it by 1 with each "turn/action". We can also have someone doing a medicine check to clean it properly (needs a critical for now since you are technically "ambushed")

"Agna, what happened!?" Izuhn rushes to her side as she's scrabbling in the snow. He tries to help Agna the best he can but also shoots a cautious eye back to the source of the lights.

Agna blinks once, twice to make sure that the ashes have been properly washed away. "Devilry at work. I ain't hurt," she adds. The shaman turns her customary scowl back toward the house she had tried to examine. "Someone magicked the ashes. Did you see what was movin' inside there?"
Jul 20, 2023 11:51 pm
"Just lights coming from over here and the you covered in ash. What did you see?"
Jul 21, 2023 12:15 am
Adaia will rush forward and attempt to see what the source of the lights are. "Everyone best be careful from here on out, I'm betting what we're looking for is still here."

Rolls

Search - lv3, SR: 5-8 (f2-c0) - (2d6)

(34) = 7

Agna shakes her head. "Lights, same as you."

"Smoke mephits! Tricksy things, get back from the wall they're waiting to ambush us!".
OOC:
Agna is blinded, but she did an action to clean her eyes, so that's a -2 penalty now. You have been warned by Adaia's success so you have a free "raise" (re-roll) on reaction to avoid ambush. Failure will add 1 fatigue.
@RAAMtentacles: Izuhn reacts in time to avoid being attacked

@testlum: Looks like Agna can't react on time and will be targetted by a claw attack. You dodge but at a cost (fatigue)
The smoke mephits will materialize from the charred markings Agna was investigating.
You can describe what your characters see (or not)

Rolls

Agna Moss: Reaction - lv2, SR: 5-7 (f0-c0) - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (65) = 11

2d6 : (36) = 9

Izuhn Frostbeard: Reaction - lv3, SR: 5-8 (f-1-c0) - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (62) = 8

2d6 : (34) = 7

Wisps of smoke rise from the disturbed ashes near Agna. The wisps slowly form into what Izuhn sees as small flying goblinoids.

Izuhn jumps out of the way of their attempts to swipe at him and counters by throwing a ball of radiant light into the midst of the creatures and detonating it into a radiant burst.

Rolls

Magic - lv6, SR: 5-11 (f-1-c0) - (2d6)

(45) = 9

"Keep away from them they're dangerous up close"

Adaia holds her hands out to the side, palms facing upwards as a thin sheet of snow and ice forms between the steam mephits and her companions.
OOC:
She's trying to slow the creatures and protect everyone from attacks from the creatures - first time casting a spell so not sure if I'm stretching my description too much or not providing enough concrete detail

Rolls

Magic - lv6, SR: 5-11 (f2-c0) - (2d6)

(42) = 6

OOC:
Your description looks good to me! Did you mean to say steam mephits instead of smoke, by the way?
Agna stumbles backward from the lunging mephits. Leaning heavily on her staff, the shaman regains her balance. Her own grasp of magic wouldn't fare so well against elementals compared to what the dwarf and elf wielded. She bats one of them with her staff instead, half-expecting the blow to pass through the mephit's gaseous form.

Rolls

Melee - lv3, SR: 5-8 (f1-c0) - (2d6)

(43) = 7

Smoke mephit
OOC:
Since Adaia's magic was defensive, I'll integrate that into the description
As soon as Adaia warns the others, the wisps of smoke rise from the disturbed ashes near Agna, quickly taking the shape of some impish humanoid creatures. The elf, realizing the elementals would see Agna as the easiest target, instinctively repeats well practiced gestures to focus the cold of the air into an thin barrier of snow and ice. Almost simultaneously, Izuhn jumps out and quickly dissipates one of the creatures with a burst of radiant light. Quickly recovering from the ambush, Agna noticed the one mephit that was caught in the elven spell, striking it with her staff and crushing the creature's half-frozen body. The remaining mephit stops and turns back, flying away and quickly disguising itself into a stream of smoke coming out of a chimney.

Suddenly, it seem like everything is quiet and you have the strange sensation of being observed. Around you, there's only small fires spreading through a row of houses leading to where the smoke mephit is hiding, a house with a few frozen icicles hanging from its roof...
