The Homunculus at the door is severely battered and bruised or rather misshapen as part of its construction is wax. It disengates and flies to the cauldron where it dives into the wax, regaining some of its shape.

Over by Darius, Briarthorn the Roothless tricks with root and sword have little effect, as Darius defences are up. (Darius AC 18)
He claws Briarthorn, bites some of the flailing branches from the protective tree and strikes again with his crystalline claws.

The Homunculus by Darius side throws globs of wax at Reaching Rings and Bottlespeaker. The glob that hit Reaching Rings slides into the cracks of his armour. (Persistant fire damage of 1d4*2)
OOC:
damn... The crits are just everywhere
15*2 (-10 from the tree) + 12

The H1 homunculus attack on Briarthorn is discarded as he is out cold.

OOC:
Players turn, in any order :)

OOC:
Thanks for the heal, I think that leaves me conscious but prone.
Briarthorn's eyes snapped open, he recognized he is staring at a floor, he could feel the damage rendered to his body and cursed himself for not being better at parrying the opponents attacks. He could also feel the linger warmth of healing magic, something he'd felt several times before in his life. He grabbed his sword and got to one knee, then stood. Reaching Rings was now next to him, "What took you so long?" Briarthorn said glancing at him to show he was jibbing him. All the while though he was taking measure of his footing, readying his blade, and attempting to find an opening to strike out at Darius. This had gone on long enough.
OOC:

Action 1: Stand from Prone
Action 2: Snagging Strike on Darius
Action 3: Dueling Parry
OOC:
Edit:
I think that's a crit so assuming my turn goes as I stated, then my attack will do an extra 1d8 damage! :)

Briarthorn the Roothless stands and slides his blade up along Darius apron, and it continues into the soft flesh under his chin, through the roof of his mouth and settles into his brain.
OOC:
(12 + 6 ) *2 is a woppeing 36 points of damage.

The humonkules both flee into the wat of wax
Sep 2, 2023 12:50 am
OOC:
Am I doing crits wrong? I thought it was just two times dice damage, so for me (1d8 * 2)+6 which would have been 14+6 or 20 total damage. Not that Briarthorn wouldn't enjoy slaying Darius.

With the big human down Bottlespeaker sprint across the room to the cauldron. After a brief inspection he attempts to disable the foul brew
OOC:

Action 1: stride
Action 2: seek

OOC:
I looked it up in the archive and feel that the deadly trait of some weapons suddenly makes much more sense.

Dubble the die is D&D 5e

Bottlespeaker finds the area around the cauldron to be a slippery place and finds the likelihood of falling flat on his face high. But the risk of the Homunculus is there. Putting a lid on it and putting out the fire, would trap them down there. Perhaps permanently once all the wax has hardened.
OOC:
According to the adventure, the Homunculus would fight, flee to the cauldron to heal, and fight again. That is going to take forever in PBP and not progress the story. The encounter have been won with a critical hit and the rest is just mob-up :)
A quick look through the rest of the rooms tells you that (1) is Darius's bedroom. Fine furnishings and imported Qadiran carpet in this
bedroom are marred by soot and wax stains. There is a desk with some papers.

The cluttered storeroom (2) is packed with alchemical tools in various states of repair, prototype candles, and fragments of crystals.

Sep 3, 2023 12:35 pm
Briarthorn sheathed his blade and then found a wall to put his back against and slid down it, the roots of his body making an eerie scratching sound as he did so. He was weary from having been knocked out, still very injured, and needed a moment to catch his breath.

"I don't see the Lavender's anywhere, do you all?" he said to the others as he pulled out a set of healer's tools and began to patch himself up with the natural remedies within.

As he begins to try and set one of his leg branches that had been dislocated during the fight back into place it snaps and Briarthorn roars with pain!
OOC:
I have the Natural Medicine feat and a set of Healer's tools so I am going to Treat Wounds on myself, hopefully.
OOC:
Well that literally couldn't have gone worse :(
OOC:
So I am at 6/49 HP now and I am immune to Treat Wounds for an hour.

Reaching Rings hears more than sees Briarthorns attempt at healing. "You did intercept the bulk of that brutes wrath. Perhaps we can rest here a while a and look for clues as to the Lavenders location?"
OOC:
i'd like to make a thorough search of the bedroom, or make sure there's no sign the lavenders came to any harm here.
Sep 3, 2023 6:27 pm
Reaching Rings searches the bedroom, including the desk. There he find Darius’s shipping manifests and accounts. Among the meticulous descriptions of crystals, candles, and alchemical concoctions, one entry stands out: a recent order for "house plants—lavender" made by Lady Constance Meliosa, successfully delivered very recently by hand to her manor in the nearby town of Rosentry. These same notes make clear that this order is to be a centrepiece for an upcoming gala hosted in her estate’s garden tomorrow at teatime.
Sep 3, 2023 8:04 pm
Bottlespeaker pulls some berries and imbues them with a sliver of his essence, before handing them to Briarthorn "These should help ease the pain"

"We are exposed in this cursed place, let's be focused in our efforts. Let's find what happened to our Lavender friends then find a safe place to rest" Bottlespeaker pulls Twinsport from his gourd "Go watch the entrance for trouble little one, I want to take a closer look at those crystals"
OOC:

Cast goodberry @ Briarthorn (1d6+4)x2 HP (Bottlespeaker should have berry and had time to refocus since last cast it right?)
Command Familiar
Investigate crystals (roll nature)

If we end up resting Bottlespeaker will refocus for another goodberry, though we really should flee the murder scene

Rolls

Nature (Wis) - Investigate crystals? - (1d20+9)

(1) + 9 = 10

Sep 3, 2023 10:09 pm
Briarthorn takes the berries from Bottlespeaker, "Again, thank you Bottlespeaker" he says as he puts both in his mouth and bites down, feeling the refreshing nature of the berries begin to mends his broken branches.
OOC:
Edit: at 21 of 49 HP now

Rolls

Good Berries - (2d6+8)

(34) + 8 = 15

Sep 5, 2023 6:33 pm
Bottlespeaker walks closer to the crystals and they make a sound. The closer he gets to louder the sound. It must be some sort of magic, but he has no clue what kind or how it works.
Sep 5, 2023 6:59 pm
Reaching Rings will tell everyone what they read. "It appears that Rosentry is our next destination. Being a decoration is bad enough, hopefully this 'Lady Meliosa' has nothing worse planned."
Sep 6, 2023 11:35 am
"Let's go! The sooner we find them, the sooner we can go back home," Popcorn grunts.
Sep 7, 2023 1:32 am
"Agreed Popcorn" Briarthorn stood, he was still badly damaged but he hoped the trip to Rosentry would give him some time to replenish more of his strength.
OOC:
Depending on Travel Time, if we exceed the hour mark Briarthorn would like another go at healing himself. If someone has Battle Medicine then I think that can be applied prior to the hour mark.
