Yup, that image helps a lot. Like @rpgventurer I thought the warehouse was freestanding
Seònaid watches and waits as Duinhir climbs.
Oct 11, 2023 9:03 pm
Duinhir waves down to indicate he has found something and wants to examine it. He sneaks up to the door. He cautiously listens to it for a while to check if anything can be heard on the other side.
Oct 11, 2023 9:54 pm
Seònaid tenses when she sees Duinhir waving, but then determines he is not in danger. She relaxes slightly, but continues her vigil of watching.

OOC:
Can you please give me a Stealth check and a Perception check then @Stefron

And again please do try to anticipate the need for these rolls in the future. Helps reduce back and forths.

Even if you throw out a roll that isn't necessary, it's good/fine, because I can just say, "A roll want necessary. Here's what happens."

Here is the rolls. I'll try to anticipate in the future.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+4)

(14) + 4 = 18

Perception - (1d20+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Éothain is staying with the group. He will be observing the streets and windows to see if anyone is noticing them. (Use the previous Perception roll of 10).
Oct 16, 2023 3:27 pm
Duinhir moves up to the roof of the second tier of stacked buildings and listens at the door. He can hear a distant muffled voice, but can't make out any words.

Below him, within the building he is standing upon, he hears someone grumbling and shutting a window.
Oct 16, 2023 7:49 pm
Convinced that the voices are far away and there is no one just on the opposite side of the door, he waves for his companions to join him. This must be the best way to get in.
Oct 17, 2023 12:13 am
Spotting Duinhir beckon she takes one more look about the street and building before skulking across to the ladder and climbing up to join him.

She tries to move with as much subtly as she can muster.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+1)

(9) + 1 = 10

Stealth - (1d20+2)

(10) + 2 = 12

As much as I hate to split the party again my PC just exactly an opposite of a rogue/thief. Just as I posted a week ago already my PC is going away form the location to reduce risk of running into a trouble while the stealth experts are doing the covert ops.
Good luck Ónar explain others how to find way to the closed tavern he is going to. Anyone with me?

So, I will remind you that not only do you, as a player, have Inspiration available to you to augment a roll, but also the are Help Actions and Group Ability Check rules that are all designed ... literally, specifically ... for use in situations where a character(s) wants to try to achieve something that they aren't necessarily good at.

That said, you can certainly still withdraw your character from the ongoing encounter if you would like.

Anyone moving up to Duinhir (@Dr_B,@rpgventurer ?) , please give me a Stealth roll if you would like to try to do so quietly.
Oct 17, 2023 8:02 pm
"But wait," I whisper to Ónar, "we can stay hidden in the shadow as backup. If something goes wrong up there, we can create some diversion to help our companions..."
OOC:
Cirion decides to stay hidden in proximity of the warehouse at street level, in case it is useful.

But still anyone who looked would see that "someone" was out there.
OOC:
I believe DM made it clear stay hidden is not possible. My PC is leaving. And it is not because my modifier, but because it makes most sense to me storywise
Well, I proposed to pretend doctor, none of you would listen. Now I would't listen to you young man. old dwarf answers in a calm and composed voice
If something goes wrong I better be not involved - there is a chance I can still save children. If they catch as all...
Oct 18, 2023 2:54 pm
Éothain moves to follow the the dwarf, but stops. "Wise words, Ónar, but my sword may be needed. I'm staying out in the street."
Oct 18, 2023 3:27 pm
OOC:
Ok, Duinhir and Seonaid are up top, Cirion and Eothain are in the street, Onar is leaving because it's what his character would do...

What's your next move?
Looking around, it doesn't seem to any of you that anyone is paying you any particular attention at this time.

It is late, and while you're mostly not particularly well hidden, you're also not being loud or disruptive or doing anything particularly shady, except those on the roof.
Oct 18, 2023 3:33 pm
Seònaid listens, trying to discern where the occupants are, and how many their might be.

"What do you think Duinhir? Create a distraction so we can enter while they are not aware, or a direct approach?" She whispers to her companion

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+1)

(16) + 1 = 17

Oct 18, 2023 4:37 pm
Seonaid still can't make out what words are being said, but she can tell it's a woman's voice echoing in a large room and it is distant, and she also detects the shifting of body weight on creaky boards as someone adjusts their standing position nearby, and sniffles and clears their throat.

There is a woman far away from the door, speaking in a large room, and there is someone standing silently within a few feet of the other side of the door.
Oct 18, 2023 7:58 pm
"Let's just go in for a quick look." Duinhir replies standing next to the door ready to open the door. He slowly tries the handle to see if it is looked or if it needs to be pried open.
Oct 18, 2023 8:30 pm
Seònaid quietly slips her sword from its scabbard, and gets ready as Duinhir tries the door.
Oct 19, 2023 8:15 pm
The door is not locked and so it casually swings inwards.

It opens onto what looks to be a cavernous room. The cube-like structure, Duinhir can be sure now, is a warehouse.

Being on the roof of a second story building, you can also figure that you are looking upon some sort of raised platform area, within the warehouse.

The warehouse is lit brightly from within, but all the light sources must be down on the main floor, because all of this upper platform area which your door opened onto is bathed in shadow.

And lastly there are two figures of men up on the platform with you, silhouetted by the light - one standing just a few feet from the door, and the other, maybe 50' away.

The closest one must hear the door opening as he turns, and squints at Duinhir who himself is shrouded by the dark, and the man says something in Southron, and moves to approach the door, his hand resting on the pommel of a wooden baton...
