Assuming some type of beast is in the hut, Rhidon tells Krogan to watch his back while he checks around the ritual chamber. Make sure nothing sneaks up behind me, I'm going to look around the ritual chamber in the back.
OOC:
What sort of doors do these structures have? Does it seem like someone kind of strong could break one down if needed?

Rolls

Investigate around the ritual chamber - (2d6)

(25) = 7

Sep 8, 2023 11:20 pm
The pens has simple fences and gates with a thatched roof covering the entire pen. Though the fences looked weak and flimsy and simple tug as you passed them was enough for you to know that it was far tougher and sturdier than it looked. Passing the hut it has a similar look to the pen, olds and ramshackle to the point a gentle breeze might blow it down, but you suspect is is also similarly well made despite it's appearance.

The ritual chamber is made of woven branches. The weave is so tight and the vines that bind it so strong that you get the impression that attacking it with ax would take hours to do more than blunt the blade. It has a thin door facing the huts and a no other opening to be found. As you examine the wigwam you hear no noise from within though you do detect odd smells from the structure.

Barley barley lifts his head as he hears the commotion outside and smiles. "See, I told you these situations generally turn out alright.", he says to Elira.

He notices the alligator shift its weight and look attentively towards the door. "Not good", he thinks.

Barley tries to remember an old folk song about a beast waiting behind the door and starts to whistle.
OOC:

I'd like to test my luck and see if Rhidon recognizes it and can hear it. I will risk taking damage from the alligator.

I rolled normally, if it's at disadvantage, cool.

I'm on my phone, hopefully tapping the private message icon works. Sorry if it doesn't.

Whistling for a cause - (2d6)

(61) = 7

Krogan and Rhidon both pause as they hear whistling from within the crones hut. A few notes of a vaguely familiar tune are head before a thud interrupts the tune.

Secret Roll

Sep 9, 2023 3:29 pm
Rhidon readies his nunchucks and stands several paces away from the door, looking to Krogan. You open the door, hopefully I can take on whatever beast lies within. After it runs out, you go in and look for the girl.
OOC:
Would this count as a focus for the next roll if I attack whatever creature lies within? I'm not quite sure when the focus would be applied vs when it isn't.
Sep 9, 2023 6:22 pm
Krogan sidles up to the door and moves to be out of the doorway before violently shoving the door open as he unlatches it.

Inside the room is mostly filled with the form of a large reptile (alligator) that snaps its head around to stare at you. The mouth opens slightly revealing massive jaws full of vicious teeth. The beast hisses at you, turning its body to move its mouth closer to the door but stops just inside.

Upon hearing the hiss Krogan slides back a few feet from the doorway and looks to you nervously.

Rhidon shouts before charging into the room, Stay back vile creature!, and attacks it with his nunchucks hoping the sudden attack catches the animal off guard.

Rolls

Martial Arts attack on alligator - (3d6)

(564) = 15

Sep 10, 2023 12:31 am
OOC:
Weapon attacks are 2d6 until you gain weapon mastery.
Rhidon moves in and slams the alligator across the snout. The building is a single room with a chair and table on one side and a bed to the other. Behind the beast you see two figures chained up, adwarven girl and elven man. The girl has obviously been crying but the elf seems ready for action though he has to skip to a side as the alligators tail swipe around the room.
Elira
Barle
OOC:
Barley can join in. With the alligator distracted the chain may be overcome somehow.
Barley's gear is over by the witches cot and out of reach at this time but be has other options. Let me know if there are questions.
Sep 10, 2023 12:56 am
Barley sets his face. His old ways are never too far behind him. He quickly wraps his leg around the alligator's chain and yanks it back, hoping to choke and topple the alligator.
OOC:
I would like to use my Martial artist trait to shorten the chain and at the very least restrict the alligators movement.

Rolls

Choke out an alligator - (3d6)

(213) = 6

Sep 10, 2023 3:21 am
Barley moves to grapple the alligator but the chain is anchored to well to the post and he is brought up short.

Swamp Beast
The beast rumbles and snaps at Rhidon clamping onto his leg as it moves to drive him back out of the room.
Meanwhile one of its eyes swivels back and it's tall slams at Barley again knocking him back against the wall
OOC:
you guys are up
Each takes 1 damage
2 actions per round
Attacks are 2d6. Once you gain weapon mastery it goes up to 3d6

Rolls

Bite at Rhidon - (2d6)

(66) = 12

Trail slap Barley - (2d6)

When Rhidon sees the girl he beckons to Krogan, She's in here, shackled along with another!

Then Rhidon kicks the swamp beast with his other leg, and attempts to grapple the creature.
OOC:
I figured speaking didn't count as an action, so first action is the kick and second a grapple. If thats an issue and only one of these can be attempted, it should be the grapple.

Also just for clarity, Rhidon only took 1 damage on the beasts attack where it got two 6s and I just mark that on the sheet myself, yes?

Rolls

Kick Swamp Beast - (2d6)

(23) = 5

Attempt grapple on Swamp Beast - (2d6)

(41) = 5

Sep 10, 2023 6:28 pm
Barley flies back from the tail slap, slamming against the post. In that moment, he goes into tunnel vision and calms his mind. He sees Rhidon go in for the kick, likes the idea, and swings his leg directly at the creature's underbelly.
OOC:

I would like to focus and then help Rhidon beat up the alligator.

Please let me know if I used focus correctly. I think I did, but I wasn't sure if need to focus for next round of combat or if I could focus and immediately use it.

Edit:

I justed realized I played out of turn. I'm so sorry. I was playing Electric Bastionland earlier and that game bled a little bit into here.

This systems tries to keep it simple. All attacks deal only 1 damage no matter the roll. There are some exceptions, Heavy (2 handed) weapons and some monsters, and advanced rules but in general any success only has basic results. I might make something sound more dramatic with a good roll but mechanically it stays simple.
Ridon kicks at the beasts gaping maw and misses and it snaps shut but then jumps atop the creature and tries to get a good grip. Barley tries to get in on the action and lands a blow to the beasts flank.
OOC:
@microtheMacroBear
Fosue increases the chances of by getting a success on a 4,5,6 instead of 5,6 only.
Also any attack without proficiency is at disadvantage, 1d6.
Since you rolled 2d6 I will just say you kicked twice and count the 2nd attack as a hit.
I do side Initiative in my Play By Post games. It lets things move faster as I post then all players post, etc.
It does not matter what player posts in what order.
Swamp Beast
The beast grunts as Rhidon flops on top of him and Barley kicks his flanks. Angry it rolls over to trip Barley and crush Rhidon. Both attacks are barely as the two move out of the beast way.

Krogan moves cautiously into the room and pauses at the sight of the fight. But upon spotting the chained dwarven girl he dashes into the room and looks for some way to free her. Under the girls directions he fetches a hammer from a pack tossed into a corner of the room. Elira begins slamming the hammer on the side of the spike to try and pry it out as Krogan continues searching the hut frantically.

With a shout of exultation Elira frees herself and moves to start on Barleys chain next. This seems to enrage the beast that turns to charge the girl.
OOC:
Back to the two of you. Don't let the heroic girl perrish to the vile creature :)

Rolls

Crush Rhidon - (2d6)

(44) = 8

Tail slap to trip Barley - (2d6)

(24) = 6

Elira breaking free - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (53) = 8

OOC:

Sounds good, thank you.

So, I used focus correctly even though I didn't need it for the roll?

Question: Does the Martial Artist trait I have give me proficiency with unarmed attacks?

If not, I'll stop kicking at the alligator.

Barley yells at the swamp beast, "Hey!" and the reaches out with his mind trying to grab the alligator's planted leg while it is mid stride.

As he does, he sends another psychic blast directly at it's head.
OOC:

I would like to trip the alligator mid run with the first blast and the smack it in the side of the head with the second one to knock it of course.

OOC:
Yes, if you focus you only have 1 other action. My bad, I forgot both of you are martial artists.
The gator surely stumbles and is pushed to the side before its head snaps to the side at if struck.

Quite impressive tall one! Come with us, we were sent to rescue Elira. Rhidon then tries to free Barley from his restraints.
OOC:
Before we leave the hut, I'd like to check the Arcane Amulet to see if there are any potent magic items in here, but am not sure if that would require a roll or not.

Rolls

Free Barley from his restraints - (2d6)

(44) = 8
