OOC:
Rhidon, do you have a preference? I'm good either way.

OOC:
Doesn't make a difference to me. Is there one option that makes it easier to learn a bit about Barley's goals, etc?

Other than that I'm good with wherever things take us.

OOC:
Totally, maybe we do one or two lines here in character? Or like a little mini-travel sequence? @CurtFactor and @Psybermagi?

I'd also like the know more about Rhidon.

OOC:
Sounds good to me, how about we do kind of an in-character "so what are we doing?" sort of thing.
Getting ready in the morning to depart from the town, Rhidon takes moment to talk to Barley one-on-one. That lady told some interesting stories eh! Where were you heading before we ran into each other? What are you looking to do from here? Rhidon seems eager, almost bouncy, but is still actively listening.

OOC:
Sounds good!
"Yes she did! The story about the city from the Dawn Age is most intriguing of all. I collect stories. I'm hoping to write a grand manuscript about the histories of this world, one day.

Before I ran into you, I went into the swamps to meet a being called the Boatman. The Boatman has wonderful tales.

I really didn't have a plan after that, but now I am definitely going to that mythic city and seeing what it's all about.

What of you Rhidon? You mentioned your house before dinner. Are you a merchant? I imagine an enterprising merchant can find all sorts of treasure to sell in the Dawn Age City. Care to accompany me?"
, Barley says with a giant smile as Rhidon's excitement spreads to him.

Rhidon can't hide his enthusiasm as Barley makes his offer. Stories are why I am so passionate about rare and unique items. My family operates a Merchant house yes, but my passion lies in new discoveries.

Barley, access to such wonders only appear once in a lifetime. Of course I will accompany you, in fact I was going to ask you the same thing. This shall be a grand adventure! Rhidon gives Barley a friendly pat on the shoulder as he utters that last proclamation.

Looking at Krogan, Rhidon continues Krogan, I must ask that you take the cart back home without me. The road from here is mostly safe. Tell my father that there are already others racing for these treasures, so any extra delays cannot be afforded.
Sep 15, 2023 8:17 pm
Krogan accepts indicating he will hire a member guard after getting a recommendation from they local merchants. You finish training all business arrangements and send him on his way.

You both know that most common way to the expedition base to Paphos is via boat down the river fire several days. But you could also take the more scenic way of simply getting a lift across the river and following it down stream on foot. This would likely take a week and be a bit more risky but also more of an adventure.
Sep 16, 2023 11:07 am
Barley exclaims to Rhidon, "Excellent! Then we are well met! Do you want to take the boat or walk along the river way? I myself don't mind the walk. Interesting things could happen along the way. However, the boat will get us there quicker."
OOC:
@CurtFactor, I think it might fun taking the more dangerous route, but if you want go directly to the city and get to the story instead I'm cool with that.

Rhidon considers both options for a moment before weighing in, In my experience, the paths less traveled hold the sweetest fruit. If most people are taking the boat, I agree we should walk.
OOC:
The walk sounds good @microtheMacroBear, Rhidon isn't one to easily turn down adventure

Finishing your preparations you make your way to a dock where you find a boatman willing to take you across the river.
Len
Laughing at your request he informs you Not my place to charge good coin to deliver a crazy man, or two, to their fates. You do not that's the wilds, right? No town over there till you get to the kingdoms east in the woods. You'll likely have to cross a few borders along the way, wherever you're going. Something is happening and some of the smaller borders are getting a bit odd. We've been hearing tales of what folks are calling Border Storms sweep across an area and seem to be like crossing a moving border.

Then again, the expedition has gotten so well known that river pirates are getting to be quite the bother. Lost a couple good men last trip back. I hear the hobgoblins and orcs to the west as well as the lizardmen to the south-west have been seen in larger more aggressive bands. So keep a watchful eye out. Hide your fires at night and sleep with a weapon at hand

You can tell the man is good natured and though he thinks you foolish in you idea is well meaning in his relaying of advice and information.
Sep 17, 2023 12:17 pm
"Thank you Len, good advice indeed. Could you tell us more about the border storms? Are they magical in nature or terrible storms that obscure the true geography of the border? I've heard of phenomenon at sea that can do the later."

Rhidon listens carefully to Len's warnings, but remains quiet. Racking his brain to see if he recently heard of anything resembling these odd Border Storms in his recent dealings.

Rolls

Rhidon tries to remember if he's heard anything about the Border Storms - (2d6)

(14) = 5

Between your own knowledge of the Borders and Lens explanations you get better handle on the Border Storms
[ +- ] Borders
[ +- ] Border Storms
Refference Link

Rhidon has heard a bit of talk about these but the are less common in the Divine Nations. The churches are claiming the gods are holding them back, much like they did in reducing the effects of the Shattering itestf. From what you have heard it seems quite likely to be true

OOC:
Thanks for clarifying, should have checked the notes. *slaps head* :)
Barley turns to Rhidon, "Dark times and weak borders are also an opportunity for wonder. I'm not afraid of these dangers"

Rhidon nods in agreement, "Where such clashes occur, people equip themselves quite well. This feels like the path for us, risks and all."

OOC:
The Borders were in teh info but the Storms are new and I had not added them till now
The pair of you are set ashore ad begin making your way to the south west, keeping the river in sight but not staying on its banks. The country is low hills covered mostly in grass with a few trees near the river and along the ocasiobnal stream the joins teh rivers flow to the south.

I want each of you to
1. Describe your travels and explain how you use using your traits and/or background then add a Test roll for 3d6. Add a standard 2d6 Test as well. Then iOOC n this post suggest a possible difficulty you encounter in your travels over the next couple of days.
After both have done this
2. Each of you explain how your character takes the lead in overcoming the other players challenge.
Based on your rolls and challange and solutions I will add other content to the mix for you to handle along the way.

Rhidon and Barley tread forward carefully, and begin to navigate the area using his Arcane Amulet as sort of a divining rod to try and avoid the zones where the largest concentrations of magical energy were, assuming them to be active conflict zones.
OOC:
Here he's using his experience hunting for magical artifacts with this item and extend that knowledge into areas where magical fighting might be happening.
Also, in an effort to impress Barley, Rhidon would try to think of the most obscure stories he has heard, as a way to hype them both up for the journey.
OOC:
That one is my standard test.
OOC:
Possible Difficulty: We keep coming across the remnants of campsites left behind, and seem to be travelling faster than this other band, and worry that we may soon come upon them.
OOC:
Not 100% sure I understood exactly what you were looking for so if there's anything that needs to change feel free to let me know.

Trying to avoid magical conflict zones using Arcane Amulet - (3d6)

Remember and recount an obscure story for Barley - (2d6)

Rhidon and Barley stroll through the low hills. The weather clear and the sun shining, putting them in good spirits.

As days pass, the path becomes wilder. The hills become stranger. At first, the change is not quite noticable but soon Barley starts to see strange plants amongst the native flora. Barley is thankful for Rhidon's amulet.

Amongst the hills, Barley picks up a traveler, a little spirit familiar that he names Malachy. They form a bond.

As the way grows wilder still, Barley sends Malachy out to commune with the areas local spirits, hoping to broker a deal for nightly protection. He is willing to give away something small, trade a tale told to him from another spirit far away, a dream, or at the very worse the memory of a sunny day from his childhood.
OOC:
3D6: Barley will use his Familiar trait to try and trade with local spirits to watch our camp during the night
2D6: Barley will use his Scholar background to try and impress local spirits for protection.
Suggested Chalenge for Rhidon: While waiting for Malachy to return, a ferocious growl is heard and something like a dog mixed with an eel bursts from the river!

Now I'm going to respond to Rhidon's challenge in this post.
One eve, a cold wind blows in with a hint of smoke in the air. Over the next hill, a campfire can be seen twinkling. Barley takes the lead and sneaks to the campfire about 50 feet out. He sends in Malachy for recogn.
OOC:
For the challenge part: How far do you want forward do you want us to describe our actions? Because I would like Malachy to go, come back and relay if there is danger. If there is, I'd like to suggest that we take an alternate route and avoid conflict if possible. I'm going to roll each step just in case. Let me know if it's too much.
Rhidon's Suggested challenge:
Sneak to fire: 2d6
Malachy Returns without being caught:2d6
Return to Rhidon and explain the situation without getting caught:2d6

microtheMacroBear says:

Rhidon sees the strange creature and warns Barley, Something rabid just lept out the river!

In an effort to intimidate the creature, Rhidon assumes a stance that makes him look wider and begins executing katas while grunting hoping to scare it off.
OOC:
Rhidon is guessing that the creature may not be intelligent, and the movements/grunting may make the creature mistake Rhidon for something more menacing.

Rolls

Katas and grunting to intimidate the creature - (3d6)

(315) = 9
