OOC:
@CurtFactor : That is fine. The basic idea is to let the players to shape a bit of the story. I picked this up a while ago and like to use it for travel and complex situations that are not key to the story

@microtheMacroBear : This is just to get you close to the main story site. Total travel time is several days on the river or about a week+ overland. In this kind of player driven exchange you can take your segment through to it's conclusion. However far/long that is.
Rhidon notes that the amulet fluxuates slowly most of the time as the ambient magical energy does not change much throughout the world. However it does seem helpful in identifying Border as it pulses oddly on your second day of travel, quickening to a strobe just before you reach the border. You both have passed them before, but not often and crossing is as unpleasant as you remember. Both of you end up with minor headaches for the remainder of the day.

You swap stories of lands and creatures encountered and heard of though so far the trip has been fairly mundane. A few signs of otters and a multitude of river birds. Though there have been a few distant dust clouds possibly from some herd animals out on the plains. After crossing the border there are more lizards and snakes as well as some larger birds circling high in the sky. The plant changes a bit as well but some are the same though you are uncertain of a few that look similar.

Malachy proves to be a bit of an odd ambasador. Though the binding of the spirit to Barley it has apparently lost some of its spiritual nature, though it gained a bit of intellect in exchange. It can not directly sense the other spirits but is familiar with the signs of their presence and helps guide Barley in identifying and making contact with a few that prove friendly. This exchange proves its worth in learning which of the new plants are irritating to the touch. From what you learn this will only get worse as you continue south-west towards the swamp.

Upon spotting the fire Malachy is sent to investigate the camp but due to it's bond with Barley can not move too far away from him but does manage to get a good look at about 15 rough looking men. They have thread worn clothing and an assortment of weapons. A boat is tied to the river bank in a small stream overgrown with bushes that would conceal it from the river. Deciding these are likely some of the river pirates you have heard of and taking into account their disheveled state you decide it is not worth the risk and simply bypass the camp.

The next day, while filling your water skins from a clean little stream that flows into the river you are set upon by an eel hound, known to associate and even be trained by water fey. Rhidon's fierce stance and battle kata seem to unsettle the creature who hisses at the dwarf and weaves its head about. The dwarf stares the beast down and after a minute it lunges and snaps it's jaws in frustration but a swift punch by Rhidon sends it back to the water.

Barley recovers from being started by the Eel hound, "Nice shot! Rhidon! We've travelled quite aways. You think we're almost there?"
OOC:
@Psybermagi - Sounds good!
Sep 19, 2023 11:44 pm
Rhidon looks over the horizon and takes a moment to appreciate the view. "I think we're getting close... it's a shame such a beautiful landscape is home to such conflict. He zones out for a moment while taking a swig of water, then shakes it off. "Alright Barley, let's keep at it!"

You have been traveling now for several day and decide to cut across a stretch of the hilly country when you ralize the rivre is curving around in a slow arc. The hills are moslty covered in grass with the ocasional bush or tree (Think a greener and more lush savanah) As you travel between around, and over the hills Malachy informs Barley that he thinks something is shadowing you. Barley gets an impressions of a medium sized furry quadroped. Some kind of large cat or dog? The stalker has been using the hills to stay out of sight but Malachy has spotted it more than once.
Sep 20, 2023 10:41 am
"Thank you, Malachy", says Barley.

Then, he turns to Rhidon, "He said there is something following us in the shadows. Keep vigilant. I'll see if I can reach it's mind."

Barley closes his eyes and with a tilt of his head tries to detect the beast's emotions.
OOC:
I would like to use The empathy skill under the psychic trait. My goal is to find out if it wants to eat us or is just a curious buddy.

I could also detect thoughts if that works better, but since it's an animal, I figure the thoughts might end up as emotions anyways.

Rolls

Psychic: Does this thing want to eat us or is it just curious - (2d6)

(32) = 5

Sep 20, 2023 1:43 pm
As your senses extend outwards you feel a mind that quickly withdraws and you lose all sense of it...
Sep 20, 2023 2:35 pm
At Barley's direction, Rhidon looks around and listens for a moment to see if he can pick up on the creature.

Rolls

Take a moment to observe the area, trying to find the creature following us - (2d6)

(35) = 8

Sep 20, 2023 3:36 pm
As you pause Rhidon hears movement approaching from two, no three, directions. You are surrounded and will see who or what it is in a moment
Sep 21, 2023 2:54 pm
"I can't get a handle on the beast, it pulled back too quickly. We should be ready for anything!" Barley whispers to Rhidon.
OOC:
I would like to Focus, in case we get attacked.

Rhidon agrees and whispers back, "I hear at least three of them." He then takes a moment to center himself seeing Barley do the same.
OOC:
Rhidon is also focusing, expecting an attack from one of these directions.
Sep 21, 2023 3:26 pm
You see three canine forms move on to surround you. The jackle looking things have unusually long limbs and begin circling the two of you trying to find an opening to attack while you are distracted. This is a standard hunting technique of many animals and these are using their numbers to try and skip on from the rear or side while your look at another.
Sep 21, 2023 7:27 pm
Rhidon springs towards one trying to get in close, and attempts a hold on one of their limbs. He shouts to Barley, "Take the opening!" hoping that the maneuver will allow for a more favorable repositioning.
OOC:
What sort of area are we in right here? What is the terrain like?

Rolls

Attempt a hold on one of the long limbed creatures, (focused from prior action) - (2d6)

(55) = 10

Sep 21, 2023 7:59 pm
As soon as the words escape Rhidon's mouth, Barley pivots to the left, throwing out his right hand. An immense ball of force rifles towards one of the circling jackals. Then swinging his arm behind him, he fires another psychic blast towards the other beast.
OOC:
I have focus for the first telekinetic blast that I am aiming at circling jackal #1
I am aiming just a normal old telekinetic blast at circling jackal #2

Rolls

Telekinetic blast with focus at circling Jackal #1 - (2d6)

(15) = 6

Normal Telekinetic Blast at circling Jackal #2 - (2d6)

(63) = 9

Sep 22, 2023 5:17 pm
The creature whimpers as it is slammed twice and jerks to pull away at the severe wound but is held fast by the dwarf's firm grip.
The other two move in to attack with yips from the beasts. Rhidon is bit once as he strugles to hold the other beast but Barley manages to dodge the others attacks.

Rolls

attack vs Blornvid - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (54) = 9

2d6 : (44) = 8

attack vs Barley - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (21) = 3

2d6 : (13) = 4

Sep 22, 2023 7:12 pm
Rhidon maintains the grapple as he grits through the pain of the bite, and gives the beast a firm kick with his boot to try and keep it still.
OOC:
Does it look like they are hurting at all, or are they holding up pretty good so far?

Rolls

Maintain grapple with the beast - (2d6)

(61) = 7

Kick the beast - (2d6)

(45) = 9

Sep 22, 2023 7:22 pm
As the first beast lunges at Barley he attempts to grab it throw it into the second beast.
"Rhidon! Hold true! I'll keep these two distracted!"
OOC:
I want to throw one beast into the other. I'm hoping to knock the other one down. I'm going to roll 2D6, but I'm not sure if this technically a unarmed attack or not.

Rolls

Martial Arts - Unarmed attack - Throw canine - (2D6)

(46) = 10

Attack - knock down canine with it's buddy - (1d6)

(1) = 1

throw attack - (1d6)

(1) = 1

Sep 22, 2023 8:25 pm
Rhidon kicks the beast, which yelp in pain before snarling and biting at him.
OOC:
OK this system does not have grapple rules so I am making this up on the fly. Feel free to give feedback.
round 1 jackle moved to attack but was grappling by Rhidon, removing all movement options
round 2 Rhidon grapples agian, I am calling this you eliminating one of its actions
Rhidon moves in and tries to knock one of the other jackals into the last. Though he managed to throw the first the other was able to avoid his companion turned missile.
OOC:
Many forms of unarmed combat include locks and throws so I figure you can use 2d6 for the throw as well and the knockdown.
The two facing Barley dive back in teeth bared.
Status says:
Rhidon = 4/6, Barley = 4/6

Rolls

bite Blornvid - (2d6)

(51) = 6

bite Barley - (2d6, 2d6, 2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (44) = 8

2d6 : (11) = 2

2d6 : (52) = 7

2d6 : (54) = 9

Sep 23, 2023 12:42 am
OOC:
Those grapple rules make sense to me.
Rhidon begins to utter increasingly profane Dwarven curses, while working to maintain his grip on the creature. Using his knowledge of nerve points, he tries to kick the beast in a manner that could make that limb painful to use for a bit.

"Barley, do you think we're faster than them?"

Rolls

Maintain grapple on creature - (2d6)

(55) = 10

Attempt to damage creature's limb - (2d6)

(26) = 8

Sep 23, 2023 10:10 am
Barley grimacing from the bite unleashes a psychic blast at the jackal's head. "I think they're built for speed, and smart enough"
Barley launches another blast at the other free dog, targeting it's hip.
"Maybe if we cripple them or had somewhere to run too. If we were in jungle instead of this Savanah, I'd suggest climbing. We need to do something. "
OOC:
I would like two psychic blasts please, one for each of the jackals. One at the canine who bite Barley's face, the other at the other canine's hip joint.
Are we still close to the river? Also, how wet is this grass? I have telekinetic fire storm, but I don't want to cause an even bigger problem by setting the entire Savanah on fire or catching a jackal on fire and it sets the savanah on fire.

Rolls

attack - jackal 1 in the face - telekinetic blast - (2d6)

(66) = 12

attack - jackal 2 in the hip - telekinetic blast - (2d6)

(35) = 8

With a crack the beast in Rhidon grip is disabled and falls to the ground whimpering and twitching. Barley throws a couple of punches through the air, slamming into the other two beasts.
OOC:
While I love the tactics the basic rule system of TinyD6 does not have any mechanical benefits to targeting specific body parts. That said, you two seem more into this so I am willing to open up you session to some of the optional rules. Take a look here. For now though it is great storytelling :)

If you guys want to add the optional rule we can discuss more on grappling and targeted attacks.
You are hundreds of yards from the river. There is lots of grass and it is pretty green but you can ignite it if you wish but it will not be a big blaze beyond what you amplify.
With one down the other two seem more cautious and lunge towards Barley in a pincer move, ready to dodge any additional attacks he sends their way, and one of them lands a nasty bite into Barley's leg.

Blromvid 4/6 Barley 3/6

Rolls

attack Barley - (2d6, 2d6)

2d6 : (23) = 5

2d6 : (51) = 6
