"Jonias shouldn't be to hard to locate. Lets do a quick ask around."
Sep 12, 2023 1:12 am
OOC:
Sorry for the delay; those of you who know me some know that weekends when the kids are here I sometimes can't manage to get decent updates up.
You ask a few questions and easily get directions to the Temple of Hapi which you find to be a modest structure, unassuming in its size and simplicity, but carved of stone as befits a shrine to the Lord of Death.

Inside, you find Jonias and two boys one a sandy haired human child of twelve, the other a dark skinned halfling boy of a similar age cleaning up after a funeral service.

"Afraid the service is over," Jonias sighs as he hears the door open without looking, "You'll have to visit the grave, the body's already been carried out."
Sep 12, 2023 1:17 am
We werent here for a service he says We were sent here by the church. We come to bring order back to this town. Ehtycs shows flashes his scythe a bit as a way to show proof of his claims.

If you have time we would like to have some words with you.
OOC:
I dont remember if we had anything else that identified us to belong with the church lol

OOC:
I didn't specify, but you may or may not have Holy Symbols and you DO have your written orders from the Dean as proof of your position.
Sep 12, 2023 2:13 am
Umi stalks into view behind Khi Khe, wielding her silver scythe, and stares down at Jonias. Khi Khe offers the Dean's papers.

"We are here at the behest of Dean of Reapers Shanword Hill. We understand that High Reaper Dominity has recently passed into the goddess' embrace, our purpose here is to serve as his replacements. We would appreciate if you would allow us in, I am afraid that our appearance and weapons of choice betray us as Reapers of Hapi, and it would be best to keep a low profile for as long as possible, so as not to alert any evils that may have grown here in the High Reaper's absence."
Sep 13, 2023 2:33 am
"Oh, apologies Reapers. I was not aware that anyone was coming? Dominity? Yes, well he and I had very little to do with one another I'm afraid. It's all that I can do to run the weekly services for the faithful and the funeral services for the city-- many who are not devout to Hapi still wish to be lawfully buried, of course. High Reaper Dominity had his own business which didn't really intersect with mine. He'd been here decades before I arrived. What can I do to, ah help?"

He adds sheepishly, "I'm afraid there isn't room in the parsonage for your party- with the two acolytes and myself it's already cramped in the sleeping quarters here, though I can point you in the direction of an inn of good repute you might stay in during your visit."
Sep 13, 2023 3:43 am
"Information would be the most helpful thing you could offer us. Our records on Narport are sparse, and yours was one of the few names we received. Anything you could tell us about this town that might be relevant to our vocations, or perhaps anyone or anywhere you could point us to that might be better suited to the task, would be appreciated. Perhaps, if there was anyone you knew the High Reaper associated with, or a particular place where he carried out his business?"

She adds in, "We have much to do here, and your giving aid would help us tremendously."
Sep 14, 2023 5:04 am
"I can do my best to answer your questions, but I can't say that I know very much. Dominity kept to himself- I'd say you want to check into his Manor House. I don't think anyones been there since he passed. I might suggest also meeting with the Negus, if you're going to be operating in his territory best not to be on the wrong side of His Immortal Majesty."

OOC:
There are two immediate "leads" or directions here-- either look into setting up the audience with the king, or investigate the High Reaper's former home, or any other direction that you want to go, but Jonias doesn't have any more particularly useful information at this point.
Sep 16, 2023 3:25 am
"Perhaps it ought to be best to secure official recognition before we enter the High Reaper's home, so as not to be mistaken as common home intruders. At the same time, once we are in the eye of the king, we are in the eye of the kingdom. It might be best to accrue knowledge as to the threats to the goddess' mortific dominion that might exist here as soon as possible, before word of us spreads. I may be paranoid, but the lack of knowledge about this place and the time it has spent without fatal supervision makes me more than wary. Your opinions?"
Sep 16, 2023 5:17 am
I agree, mostly. If we ran into any trouble at late High Reapers home, im sure being reapers ourself would warrant enough of a reason for us to be there. However, getting the blessing of the king isnt a bad idea. And they would be able to give us more information on the situation here.
Sep 16, 2023 2:03 pm
Reaper's place will still be there after we attend time with the King.
Sep 17, 2023 2:58 am
You find rooms at an inn for the night, and the following day head to the palace (easy enough to find), to pay your respects to the king. As you approach, the guards (all ebony skinned halflings) stop you at the gate and leave you waiting for the an official they title the Agafari.
[ +- ] Linguistics DC 15
When the Agafari arrives he is a stout and fat little halfling dressed in green robes that seem to complement his dark complexion, "I am told you are from the Church of Hapi? You have come to present yourselves before His Immortal Majesty?"

DC 15 Linguistics. Almost but failed.

"We wish to be graced by your Immortal Majesty. We are new followers of the Hapi assigned here. The High Reaper in now in our lord's hands."

@Kaneda_Shepard feel free to jump in whenever here- we will assume you were there at the start but just generally quiet.
You are led into the throne room where an aging white haired, black skinned halfling sits in an ornate outfit atop an ancient looking throne of burnished gold.

There are a dozen spear wielding guards here lining the entrance walk, even though your weapons were left at the gatehouse it is clear that pomp and ceremony are of high value here. In a row of benches near the front of the room, robed halflings which appear to be various court officials sit, several of them of advanced age as well.

The leader of the palace guard approaches the front, dressed identically to the other guards save the noticably ornate sword at his side- it almost sings of the history of the blade the way it stands there, undoubtedly a family hierloom from the days of the halfing's empire.

"His Immortal Majesty, Beylerbey of All the Southern Tribes, Protector of the Shield of Munron, Negus of Narport, Negusa Nagast in Exile Adalamous XXIII," the guard captain says in a booming voice, punctuating it with a stamp of the spear on the ground.

The Negus looks at you assembled before him, then speaks before you have the chance, "I am to understand you are the representatives of the Church of Hapi? Come to replace High Reaper Dominity?"
