Chapter 1: Adventures in Babysitting

Crow frowned, he already knew what awaited inside - but needed to see for himself. He took a minute as he followed Tarna inside. Focusing around the site of the altercation for any clues. Holding his breath as he saw a scene so grizzly it made a paladin cringe. "This is beyond the pale, sister." Crow clenched his jaw, surveying the scene, he felt his anger boiling in his stomach.

The scene is one of complete carnage. A woman's body lies on the floor in a pool of drying blood, bearing several stab wounds. On the ruined bed is the body of a man, his throat cut from ear to ear. Blood is spattered everywhere and has drained onto the bed and nearby wall. Crow finds a bloodied bootprint trail that leads out of the room and to the front door.

Outside, Anwyn grows impatient and senses something is wrong.

"Momma? Papa?" She sounds about to burst into tears.

Tarna turns to Crow. "We have a new mission," she says. Stepping back into the main room, she speaks loud enough for the others to hear. "I must find who has done this and why. I cannot ask that you endanger yourselves any more than you already have, though I strongly suspect that you may be in more danger than you know. I need one of you to go to the watch and tell them what we have discovered. Mention my name and that I am a paladin in service to Tyr. They will know me. As to the rest of you, I cannot promise that you will be safer with me, but I may require assistance if you are willing."

"I will go for the watch and remain with them to answer questions," Gern volunteers.

Drakis has asked to be excused from the game due to real-life issues, but I wanted to provide him with a way back in, should he ever desire to return. This will do nicely.

"Ask for my father, he knows you of course and I'd warned him of this threat so I'm sure they'll be open to your report." Tom instructs his friend. "I'd go with you but once the Watch gets a look at these events he'd likely keep me locked in my room until this is resolved. I'd rather be a part of the solution. "

"Hurry to the watch!" Tarna urges Gern before turning back to the rest of you. "You said that you found a scent trail? We should waste no more time. Let us follow it."

Fen acknowledges Tarna with a rapid, eager nod and gives her feline companion a pat on the shoulder. "Lead," she says to her friend, encouraging Oshgal to follow the scent she had discovered.

Tarna falls into line right behind Fena and Oshgal as the cat begins trailing the scent. Oshgal begins heading in the direction of Dock Ward.

Tom falls into step along with the others, pulling Anwyn away from the scene at her home. He nudges Crow and Selena and whispers to them softly, "I want to follow this trail and see what we're up against, but I'm uncomfortable with us leading the girl straight to the one's looking for her."

He glances down at Anwyn who's clearly confused why they're leaving her home without her parents.

"Should some of us break off and try and hide her away?"

Moving out, the group follows the scent trail into Dock Ward, a place in Waterdeep that can be a little rough. Oshgal continues to follow the trail, occasionally doubling back or pausing to pick up a fresh scent. Along the waterfront, the trail leads to a warehouse. The doors are closed and the place appears deserted.

How visible would the party be to those in the warehouse interior currently? For example, are we already clearly in view to someone stationed at its broken windows, or is there enough cover to try and approach stealthily by sneaking up to an exterior wall and following along it to one of the doorways?
