OOC:
unless you can pitch me on how a fancy halberd trick can get you to hit someone as far away as a full move (open to ideas), you would use your move action to go from far to near to the enemy, drop your weapon (I think a free action), use a quick action to draw the javelin, and use a standard action to throw it. I think despite being thrown it is still considered a ranged attack so to would use dexterity, not strength, to make the attack. I didn't see anything on "thrown weapons" in the book being an exception to this, but could be wrong.

OOC:
Nah, I thought he was within hooking distance, so I was going to try to grab him like a hook grabbing a bad performer off the stage. If he's that far, I'll just javelin him!
Makasi runs toward the fleeing Elf. Keeping her red eyes fixed on him, she drops her halberd and draws her javelin from her back. She rears back and throws it at the fiend's heart...

Rolls

Ranged+escalation - (1d20+4+3)

(8) + 7 = 15

Javelin damage - (2d6+3)

(63) + 3 = 12

OOC:
Would it be possible to roll strength/dex/con to rush the fleeing elf

Makasi throws the javelin but it just narrowly misses. (but actually hits because of Hrafe's "fight in spirit")
OOC:
Ranged attack by default do not deal miss damage

As for Jomsviking's question, I am trying to remain consistent with the distances I have been giving. As such, Hrafe cannot make it farther in one turn than I dictated. Near and far are subjective to the battlefield, and in this case Hrafe is almost not even in the same fight as the elf, so one movement gets him far from the elf and the second gets him near, but he would need another move to actually engage in melee and he only gets 2, not 3

OOC:
since it is physically impossible to close the gap, the elf gets 3 moves for Hrafe's 2 may Hrafe fight in spirit?

OOC:
I'll allow Hrafe to fight in spirit, but to make sure we are on the same page, the elf doesn't get 3 movements while hrafe only gets 2, the elf only gets 2 movements, but he is so far away that it would take hrafe 3 movements to catch up but he only gets 2 each round like everyone (assuming you are using your action to move a 2nd time).

I admit, having the enemy run away does make stuff like this complicated. Effectively, Hrafe and the elf aren't in the same combat anymore. It almost became 2 fights: those dealing with the half-orcs that hadn't gone down yet, and those chasing the elf who was fleeing. Hrafe just so happened to stay back the most to deal with the half-orcs.

As the book says, "To earn this bonus, however, you have to come up with some story about what your character has done that could boost party morale." What has Hrafe done?

OOC:
It is now Edgar and Ylliane's turn.

Edgar would need 2 moves to reach the enemy, but he knows the enemy can't teleport anymore this battle.
Ylliane could use one move to just barely squeeze past Hrafe, and make a ranged attack, or use two movements to engage in melee.

"And with a voice like a clap of thunder the Father said: 'The Dragon says every effort is wasted. All dreams are delusion. All names will be forgotten, and everything living will die.' But the darkness fears us, even fleeting embers as we are, unified against the chaos we are akin to the sun. A fire in the dark! Rise up, embers of the first flame, rise up and become what you are. Be my storm! Be my fury! Be my lightning."

Hrafe knelt over his greataxe and focuses his martial prowess instead on a prayer to aid his distant comrades.

OOC:
Hrafe can give one person a +2 to one attack or to their AC, PD, of MD against 1 attack
Feb 21, 2024 7:04 am
OOC:
since Makasi and Hrafe act simultaneous can I add a +2 to her Javellin attack?

"Stay put!" Edgar calls out to the elf and crosses the room as fast as his legs can carry him.
OOC:
Will move twice.

I'll allow it for now mainly because Makasi and Hrafe go at the same time and this is supposed to be your action. I'm still on the fence if fight in spirit applies right now, as it reads like it is meant for players that didn't get to be part of the fight at all or that got knocked unconscious and would otherwise do nothing on their turn but a death save. I will do some research on my end to see what will happen if this ever happens again. The main thing is that Hrafe participated in 80% of the fight and is still conscious So I am not sure if this is what they had in mind with this rule or not.

Posting for Ylliane due to inactivity
Ylliane runs up next to hrafe and fires her bow at the fleeing elf.
OOC:
She misses, dealing 2 damage

Rolls

Ylliane: longbow - Total - (1d20+9)

(5) + 9 = 14

Ylliane: longbow - Total - (2d10+3)

(37) + 3 = 13

The elf sees all of the people going after him. He looks in the direction he is going, and then a look on his face seems scared. He then, holding his wound from the javelin, gets on his knees and says, "You have slain my friends. Please spare me..."
OOC:
The fight is over. At this point, killing the elf or not is a narrative choice, not a combat one.
You guys can talk to the elf, explore the nearby area, or do anything else you'd like.
My only ask is if you see a bridge, do not cross it until everyone is ready to cross it.
I will reveal more of the map as you tell me where you go. To keep things from being to chaotic, think of this as still in initiative, as each of you can do one "exploration action" and must then wait for everyone to take one too or say "i'll just stand here" before you can do so again, or one or two people who are more active don't do all the talking or exploring.

As part of your next post, roll any recovery dice and rolls for recharging abilities

Makasi grabs her halberd from the floor and rushes to put its point to the Elf's neck. "Drop your weapon and keep your hands up. You best be telling us what you and your merry little band here are all about."
Feb 27, 2024 2:02 pm
Edgar looks over the immediate area for a rope to tie up the elf. "I'd answer her questions," he says while tying up the elf. "As I am inclined to kill you and be done with it."

Rolls

Recovery - (2d8+0)

(15) = 6

Recovery #2 - (2d8+0)

(62) = 8

"I see little reason to keep him alive. He clearly doesn't know anything of value. If he did, he'd have told us already."

Ylliane knows very well he hasn't had time to say anything yet. This is just an added tactic to get him to talk. If he thinks that they think he's useless, he'll work all the harder to prove that he's worth keeping alive.

@SavageBob Makasi, please give me a charisma check. I'd say you can add your hell-bent mother background, as mother's know how to be scary when they need to be.

DC is 15. On a success, he answers your question. On a failure, I'll let you choose: refuses to talk, or talks but he leaves out big details and you don't know that.

Either way he drops his weapon, as anyone would do in this kind of situation.

Rolling...

Rolls

CHA + Hellbent Mother - (1d20+5+4)

The elf recoils in fear of the halberd and the threatening woman holding it. "I'll talk! We are just a group of highway men. The boss left for a few days and came back looking stronger and with a new scheme. We found out about a few ankheg in the area and found a way to get some raw meat to attract them without attracting them to our lair. When we heard merchants were coming through the nearby road, we set the trap, let the ankheg do all the work, and we pillaged the cart that gets destroyed or abandoned. The ankheg don't care about trade goods, only meat, so they don't touch the stuff we want."
