Chapter 2: Fell Tunnels

Edgar looks down the hole. It seems too dark to see the bottom. If you threw a light down, perhaps you could see, but as of now it is just pitch black (or a shade of very dark green)

"The bottom is further than my eyes can see," Edgar says. "Anyone have a spare torch?"

Hrafe stuck a torch into the green fire and walked to the edge of the hole dropping it into the hole. Watching the torch fall.

As the torch burns and falls, you estimate it goes about 50 feet, maybe 60, before it hits a flat solid surface and sits there. You also notice l, as Hrafe brought brought the torch over, that words are etched around the rims of the holes. Speak the words and descend safely

"Speak the words and descend safely?" Makasi reads aloud. "What words?"

Hrafe picks up a rock walks back to the edge of the pit. "'The words.'" He says and drops the rock into the hole.

The rock falls as fast as expected. The idea was clever, but not correct.

Makasi recalls the brief time she was in the Lich King's lair after escaping the afterlife. She recalls a phrase that the undead would sometimes use. It meant "Hail the King", she later learned, but it was in an old dialect that the dragon empire no longer uses. When they said this phrase, magic would activate that would make passage safe in such areas. She thinks she heard others phrases used in different circumstances, though, so this phrase isn't likely a universal phrase.

Makasi shudders at memories of the Lich King's lair. She only got a brief glimpse of it. But it was enough to convince her she never wanted to go anywhere near it.

She spits into the hole. Then she says the cursed phrase she remembers from the lair, loud enough for the others to hear.

Ylliane shudders. "What were those words? The dialect is like fingernails on slate."

Hrafe perked up at he foul speech. He exchanged a knowing grin with Makasi and offered a blessing in the language of the light. "|__||●_[]VV <v"

"Say it again. I'll go first!"

Makasi jumps down.

Makasi and Hrafe jump down. As soon as their heads are below the line at the top of the hole, feint magical humming starts. Suddenly, Hrafe and Makasi start to descend as slowly as a falling feather. It seems it will probably take 20 seconds or so for them to finish their fall.

Ylliane and Edgar watch as this happens. if they continue to look around, who knows what awaits Makasi and Hrafe at the bottom. Will they jump to?

Edgar won't be outshined by his companions. He says the words that makes his tongue want to twist in a knot before jumping in after them.

As you all jump in, the same hum rings and you fall slowly, like a feather without the swaying. As you reach the bottom, the dim light of 4 fires in the far corners reveals the thing silhouettes of 5 human-shaped figures. The torch that was thrown down then illuminates the figures, revealing 5 skeletons, two with spears and three with arrows knocked in bows.

The two with spears look at you, and in a voice you assume was magically placed on them as it sounds almost mechanical, says, "You are unknown. Identify yourself or be removed by force." The three with bows raise the bows and pull back on the strings.
