OOC:
As of the time of this post, Edgar is the only member of the ambush party. The remaining will stay far enough back as to not cost Edgar his ambush. For the sake of time, I will handles the rolls. This first one will be using Edgar's background and dexterity to see if he manages the approach and gets the surprise. If yes, i'll let him decide how he wants to attack and then i'll roll initiative. If he fails the DC 20 check, i'll just go ahead and roll initiative and have Edgar be close to them but seen before he could engage or attack.

@Furmyr Edgar passes the check. You get 1 round to attack one of the hounds before I roll initiative for everyone. What do you do? Assume you are able to get into melee if that is what you want to do. After that i'll make a quick map. Remember you move before or after you attack, not both, so if you attack in melee you end your turn in melee.

Rolls

Edgar Skullbreaker: DEX - Trained Assassin DC 20 - (1d20+11)

(11) + 11 = 22

Apr 30, 2024 6:52 pm
Edgar runs forward, daggers in hand, hoping he can end the creatures before they can alert their presence.

Rolls

Melee Attack - Total - (1d20+7)

(6) + 7 = 13

Abandon Dagger - Total - (2d8+5)

(86) + 5 = 19

Apr 30, 2024 7:56 pm
Edgar stabs where would normally be a lethal spot, but the skeletal hounds do not have the internal organs Edgar would normally have slit open and thus deals no damage. They turn to him, snarling.
OOC:
Rolling Initiative now. Without getting too meta-game-y, the hounds will howl at the end of round 1. They are 2 lv 1 normal monsters, it should be possible to kill them in 1 round with strategy and good luck.

Rolls

Ylliane - (2d20H1+7)

(104) + 7 = 17

Edgar - (1d20+6)

(11) + 6 = 17

Hrafe - (2d20H1+4)

(1616) + 4 = 20

Makasi - (2d20H1+4)

(199) + 4 = 23

Skeletal Hound 1 - (1d20+7)

(17) + 7 = 24

Skeletal Hound 2 - (1d20+7)

(1) + 7 = 8

Quick Link to Battle Information
One of the skeletal hounds runs up to Edgar, unaware of the threat beyond the lone elf, and attempts to bite into his leg. It succeeds, leaving some of the teeth in Edgar's leg.
OOC:
Summary:
Edgar takes 5 damage, and also is taking 5 ongoing damage from a natural even hit (monster ability)
In the process, the skeletal hound takes 5 damage from losing those teeth

Everyone may go now. Remember, unless you are Edgar you are far from the hounds

Rolls

Skeletal Hound Bite vs Edgar AC 14 - 5 damage - (1d20+6)

(18) + 6 = 24

Skeletal Hound damage from losing teeth - (1d6)

(5) = 5

OOC:
How do they make sound? Is it something physical that I might try to subdue by tying a rope around one of their jaws? Or is it magical mumbo jumbo so the sound come from everywhere or nowhere in particular?
May 1, 2024 3:25 am
OOC:
As they are skeletal, are impaling weapons no good on them? I was thinking of having Makasi close a bit and throw her javelin, but I'm not sure it would do any good if it just sailed right through the rib cage.

OOC:
the magic that animated the hounds doesn't alter how they act. They howl with their mouth, despite not having lungs or such anymore

As for weapons, they have weapon resistances 16+, meaning they take 1/2 damage from all weapons unless the d20 was a 16 or higher. Doesn't matter what kind of weapon
May 1, 2024 4:06 pm
Edgar pulls out his rope, and tries to fasten it around the mouth of the undamaged hound in hopes that his companions can deal with the other and he'll be able to silence this one for the time being.
OOC:
What should I roll for this?
May 1, 2024 5:34 pm
OOC:
I would say that would be a DC 20 Strength skill check, with a background that you can justify to me. It would have to be something where you could reasonably explain having skills with wrestling, as you will have to do some amount of wrestling to keep the hound still enough to try and makeshift muzzle it. I would imagine trained assassin is more about stealth and killing. would you say that sometimes you had to take people alive and you would have learned to tie up people that weren't unconscious? It makes sense that you might have tied up unconscious people you knocked out, but it is up to you if you would have skill doing it to people that were awake.

OOC:
Probably some have been taken alive so the Crusader can make a point with them. And sometimes when you get up close to slit their throat they suddenly start fighting back so he has had experience wrestling people from time to time.

Edit: With that roll no amount of experience is going to help.

Rolls

STR - Skill (BG1) - (1d20+8)

(2) + 8 = 10

May 1, 2024 7:52 pm
Edgar takes out a rope and tries to muzzle one of the skeletal hounds but the hound unexpectedly rolls and throws Edgar off.
OOC:
What is everyone else doing?
May 1, 2024 8:42 pm
Makasi draws her javelin and closes as much as she can to the hounds. She then looses the spear at the nearest monstrosity.

Rolls

Ranged - (1d20+4)

(14) + 4 = 18

Damage (if hit) - (2d3+3)

(21) + 3 = 6

Reroll damage (should be 2d6+3) - (2d6+3)

(32) + 3 = 8

May 1, 2024 8:57 pm
Makasi lands a solid blow as she approaches, though not quite solid enough to hit a bone direly. the Javelin does damage, but not fully.
OOC:
Weapon Resistance 16+ halved the damage, but it was a hit
May 1, 2024 11:02 pm
OOC:
Can Hrafe use strength to drop something heavy on one of the hounds?
May 2, 2024 4:13 am
Ylliane moves forward only as much as she needs to in order to get a decent shot. Then she nocks an arrow and lets it fly at the nearest hound.
OOC:
Would have triggered Deadly Assault, but no 1s or 2s to reroll.

Rolls

flexible longbow attack, damage - (1d20+7, 2d10+5)

1d20+7 : (14) + 7 = 21

2d10+5 : (35) + 5 = 13

May 2, 2024 1:08 pm
Like Makasi's spear, the arrow flies true but instead of landing inside of a bow and cracking it, the arrow glanced a rib and flies through where a heart would have been and comes out the other side, injuring it but not fully. It does stagger the hound, though.
OOC:
What kind of thing could Hrafe drop on them? And by drop I assume you mean throw
May 2, 2024 9:53 pm
OOC:
A tree trunk or a big rock is what I am thinking.
May 2, 2024 10:36 pm
OOC:
Does Hrafe have the strength to knock down a tree in just 1 round? It sounds to me like something that would take a minute or more. Perhaps if you were in the champion or epic tier such a thing might make more sense. Throwing a rock small enough to throw as far as a javelin would probably not do more damage than a javelin. Any thoughts to add I may not be thinking of?
May 5, 2024 12:40 am
OOC:
What is Hrafe going to do? If you don't kill both of the hounds, someone will probably come investigate in 2 rounds, so you will still have 2 rounds to kill them before anyone would join the fight, but someone will come look.
May 5, 2024 1:47 am
OOC:
Hrafe is approximately as Strong as Hafþor Bjornsen

https://i.imgur.com/LjQQkVZ.gif

That halfkeg is ~160lbs
Hrafe finds the heaviest thing he can within reach and races at the sentries, hurling it at the undamaged skeletal hound.

Rolls

STR - Skill (BG2) Warrior Poet - (1d20+9)

(18) + 9 = 27
