"Seems Alyndra already has the map and journal covered. Shall we leave, then?"
Sep 27, 2016 4:06 am
OOC:
Sorry, but I'd like to vie for the map as well. I'll roll for it. I'd like to think Harrison might get a chance to build an inventory as well and not lose out because someone else posted before me. Also, we're all criminals. Can't let the booty fall into just one person's hands!

OOC:
play it out!

OOC:
Is there anything I can roll to determine what direction we need to go in order to head out? Also, has everyone already changed into normal clothes?

"Not so fast, Alyndra. What do you think you're doing with all that? This haul is not yours to divvy up as you see fit, any more than we are your minions to command. I would like that map and journal. You may keep the rest unless the others object."

Alyndra didn't get first pick because I posted first. She got it because she opened the chests :P
Alyndra stands there for a moment, journal and map in her hands, considering her options and then smiles and hands them over, "Sure, take them. A token of good will, if you would. Seems like we may be working together for a while, so it's best to be on good terms, wouldn't you agree?"
Sep 27, 2016 2:26 pm
"I think we can agree on the current arrangements like any other business pairing."
Harrison takes the items with a nod and then proceeds to cut the cloth (ensuring its not siaked in blood!) off of one of the dead guards uniforms. Tying knots in one end, he stuffs the items inside, albeit a bit awkwardly, and ties the other end onto his belt making a sac of sorts. "We need a plan now. We can't simply walk out of this place without meeting extreme resistance. Also, we might be recognized, and our ally here surely will be. I suggest disguises. Perhaps transporting a prisoner?"

Xharin, give me a Survival or Knowledge (Local) roll.
Sep 27, 2016 2:39 pm
I look around and consider the easiest means of egress.

Rolls

Knowledge local - (1d20+3)

(19) + 3 = 22

OOC:
I'll fully admit that I goofed on the map here, and got myself confused. It happens to the best of us....anywho...
Xharin will note that, in order to get to these barracks, the team had to move through a mess hall of sorts. The only off duty personnel that were taking a meal are already dead, so this area could, potentially, be considered a safehaven. The room to the south of the mess hall, though, has noises of activity, and the smell of stew and baking bread from that area indicates that you could find the kitchen there. Perhaps one of the servants can tell you the best way to go about it.

"Indeed. Our path to reach the barracks is fairly simple. First we must enter through what is known as the mess hall. This area could be clear as we've dispatched most of the guards already. We'll then need to enter the kitchen, in which I'm sure there will be much activity. Perhaps one of the servants could be... persuaded to point us in the right direction?"

Hearing no argument, I head towards the mess hall, listening for any activity along the way.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+4)

(1) + 4 = 5

Not recalling any particular mess hall, Harrison mutely follows.

Alyndra shrugs as the wizard leads the way, more than happy to let him take the first blows, listening for any danger and trying to keep out of the light as much as possible.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+5)

(20) + 5 = 25

Perception - (1d20+2)

(5) + 2 = 7

The party maneuvers it's way from the barracks through the mess hall, down into the kitchen (room 11). Inside are two servants, working hard to make stew and bake bread for the guards here at Branderscar. When Xharin and Harrison walk in, and they see the weapons that Harrison is carrying, they immediately raise their hands and start cowering in the corner.

"P-p-please...please don't hurt us! We're just the cooks!"
Oct 4, 2016 3:59 pm
Magoldor walks up to the nearest cook and bashes the poor bastard's skull in with his warhammer. As the cook crumples to the ground the dwarf starts to go for the other one but is distracted by the food. He grabs a hunk of bread and hungrily starts eating stew straight out of the pot.
OOC:

"Show us the quickest way to the barracks. How many more of you are working tonight? Are they expecting food from you? Answer quickly!"

OK...I'm going to do something that I absolutely hate doing, because I goofed up and didn't explain what had happened very well... I'm going to railroad this scene so that everyone is on the same page.

First off, due to me misreading the map and the book (let's hear it for trying to do this stuff in between reports at work, everybody!), you guys have already been through the mess hall (Room 10) and the barracks (Room 9, the room with all the chests). Xharin, with his earlier checks, realized that the room to the south of the mess hall (Room 10) was a kitchen, and that there was obviously some activity going on in there.

In light of all of this, and in order to get everyone on the same page, I'm going to finish this scene with a brief "train ride" and railroad you guys through...then we'll be back on track. Sorry XD
"Oh...oh gods!" the woman exclaims as she watches Magoldor smash in the head of the other cook. As the dwarf starts eating, Xharin takes advantage of the fear displayed by the woman and starts making demands.

"Don't kill me! I'll t-tell you anything you want!"

Absolutely terrified, the woman rambles for a while, detailing that there are two other servants who take care of things at night, Gregor and Irena, and they aren't due to be there for another hour at least. She details that there are twelve guards stationed at Branderscar Prison (which seems vastly understaffed to all of you), not counting the warden and the sergeant. She mentions that Gregor has a habit of wearing his green cloak and leaving the prison at night, using the weekly password to exit through the gate at the other end of the bridge. She tells you that the password this week is "Hesterfield".

She also informs all of you that the sergeant's office and quarters are across the hall (room 14), along with the storeroom. The armory is the northernmost door on the left in that hallway.

The warden's tower holds Warden Richter's office and personal quarters, as well as a small library and the "Hall of History".

There's supposedly a poker game going in the east gatehouse (room 3C) that the guards don't believe the servants know about. The next game is tonight, and Blackerly will be selling his rotgut whiskey to any of the on or off duty guards present. To get to it, one has to climb up the ladder in the Western Gatehouse, walk across the second story of the gatehouse, and then climb a ladder down.

She continues begging for her life after spilling all this, clearly terrified of the whole party even before Grumblejack pokes his head in the door to get a whiff of the food...at which point she breaks down into tears and becomes completely incoherent.

While she blubbers, I grab some rolls for the road and whatever else looks like it can travel for a few days without spoiling. It always helps to be prepared for anything.
