Act I: Prison Break

OOC:
I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend, if it's something that you actually celebrate. You guys can continue to plot and plan OoC if you like, but I'm going to give you a general rundown of what you see through the first day.
The four of you (five if you count Grumblejack) plot and scheme for the next hour and a half, and things begin to fall into place in your minds, when the door opens. One of the guards walks into the cell block and looks around the room, checking on all of you prisoners. He spits on Magoldor as he walks by, and he smells absolutely rancid; like cheap whiskey.

Throughout the day, here is what you observe:

The guards rotate shifts every 8 hours. There are always two guards posted outside of your cell block, and they take turns patrolling your block every two hours: one actually checking on you, one standing by the door with a signal horn in hand to call for help if something happens.

If everyone can give me a Perception roll, I have more information to share with you. ;)

Alyndra pays careful attention to the movements of the guards over the course of the day, a definite plan beginning to take shape in her mind.

Hair covering my eyes and a glazed look of boredom on my face, I watch the guards with laser-like precision, sometimes even counting the sounds of their echoing footsteps as I attempt to measure their approximate speed and distance traveled to and from our cell.
OOC:
Adding a Prescience roll for the hell of it. If it's higher, I'll use that roll instead.

Being able to watch the same scene over and over must offer some kind of insight, Harrison thinks to himself. The routine is tedious to the point of bordeom, and Harrison has a difficult time gleaning worthwhile information.

Magoldor leers at the guards as he relishes the thought of spilling their blood. Soon, very soon.

OOC:
Damn...that Prescience saved you guys...
Throughout the day, you hear the two guards posted at your cell block's door talking. Most of it is meaningless chatter, but this little tidbit catches your attention:

"That Blackerly is a damned thief! That game was rigged last night!"

"If it's rigged, why do you keep going back to the gatehouse then?"

"The beer's passable."

A laugh is heard. "Drinkin' on duty! Damn, this place has gone to hell. Captain Callidan would have never tolerated that crap, that's for sure!"

"Captain Callidan...he left, what? Two years ago?"

"Almost three and since then the place has been straight down the shitter. That old wizard never leaves his tower. He stays up there reading his books and petting his owl!"

"Petting his owl? Is that what they call it these days?"

The guards enjoy a bit of a laugh.

" I admit, I am unsure as to how best to manage the guards. The tedium of this place wears upon me."
Sep 7, 2016 2:27 am
"It may do us all some good to listen more and talk less. I've been eavesdropping on the guards. They play cards and imbibe at the gate house on the regular basis. There's also been mention of a wizard that resides at the tower. We'd best avoid notice of the tower if possible. What adjustments, if any should we make to our current plan?" I turn my attention towards Magoldor and Alyndra.

It is now early evening of the first day, with the time you've all spent plotting, planning, scheming, and eavesdropping. The guards changed rotation about 2 hours ago. Alyndra was told that she had 3 days...which is, ironically, when your sentences will be carried out.

What do you do?

When Magoldor was first brought in he was frothing at the mouth, spouting blasphemous prophecies, until Blackerly's boys shut him up with repeated beatings. Now, as the day of freedom draws near, whether that means escaping this prison or 'freedom' at the stake, he has taken up his ravings once again.

"The faithful will shed their bonds. The accused shall devour the accuser and revive the harbinger.
The star of evil foretells victory. The shining magistrate will be troubled.
A time of plenty will end. The black emissary will burn. The king of lies will seduce the princess of the stars."

OOC:
Is Magoldor shouting this, or just muttering it to himself?

OOC:
Just loud enough to piss off his cellmates and occasionally maybe the guard at the door.
Sep 7, 2016 3:35 pm
"I think we should leave tonight," Alyndra says to the others shortly after the shift change, "Wait until shortly after they do their inspection and make our move then. We can free our big friend to give us a distraction and make our escape in the confusion."
Sep 7, 2016 3:59 pm
OOC:
Whenever everyone indicates they are ready to move forward, I'll move things along and bring the next inspection in.
Sep 7, 2016 7:22 pm
"The sigil of darkness foretells war. The forsaken shall rise. The serpent shall swallow the sun, and the Lord of Darkness shall cast down the stars from the heavens."
OOC:
Yeah let's go!

Another day couped up here? No thank you. "I am agreeable to your plan."
Sep 8, 2016 1:23 am
Let us be off. Free and dead is better than our current state.
Sep 8, 2016 1:11 pm
Three hours later, the door to your cell block opens and a guard stumbles in. He looks blearily at the four of you, spits on the dwarf, and laughs. "I hope they lllet me lllitght the fffffire, you shun of a bitsch..." the man slurs as he walks out of the room.

You estimate that you have anywhere between two and three hours to open your manacles and get free. You may begin when ready.
Sep 8, 2016 1:23 pm
Ignoring the plan, Magoldor begins straining against his bonds, still rabidly whispering evil prophecies all the while.

Breaking manacles/chains - (1d20+4)

(13) + 4 = 17

I turn towards Alyndra. "Should we "remove" the items from the veil while you work on the manacles? I assume you'll be more... discrete." I give Magoldor a withering side-eye.
