OOC:
LOL. For the 2 advantage, then, we can get Ken a nice boost on the next social check he makes to account for his new threads.
"Quite sharp, Ken. Quite sharp." Creds snaps his fingers. "We can't forget to place an anonymous comm to the local police. If our rumors worked, there should be quite a few bidders at the auction today who are illegally packing heat."
OOC:
Not sure if that requires a check, but I think that's the only remaining step of our pre-auction shenaningans we need to do.

You make your way out of the spaceport and head off to the auction. When you arrive, there's only about 20 clusters of 1 to 3 beings. That's at least 10 less bidders than you were expecting. Upon seeing you approach, several spot Ken and move to give your group some space. There's some noticeable whispers and finger pointing at the only Rodian to appear so far. As you take your place and the auctioneer comes to the gate to open things up, there is a gasp from the other side of the crowd. You spot the Yiyar from the bar last night, however, just as they take a spot in front of the auction, almost as on cue, a dozen security speeders close in from both directions. The PA from one of the speeders blasts across the crowd.

"No one move." Multiple officers pour from each speeder and they head towards the gathered auction goers.
OOC:
Any actions or are you going to wait it out?

OOC:
did the auctioneer unlock the gate yet? If so, AD-hoc will head that way. If not, AD-hoc will stay put.
Jul 10, 2024 4:39 pm
Creds puts his free hand in the air, leaving the other in its sling. Seeing AD-HOC move, he whispers, "Be careful, fella. They might ignore a droid, but then again they might not."

Zailor stays put near Ken and and Creds.

OOC:
The auctioneer had just unlocked the gate but froze when the Security officers arrived.

AD-hoc moves toward the auctioneer and the gate, trying to act like that is where he belongs

As you stand quietly, the first group of officers takes down the Yiyar trio, hard. Binders are applied and they are hauled into one of the speeders. The rest of the officers line up in front of the gathered group, "Line up, face us and stay quiet." About half of the officers walk forward with hand scanners and begin giving everyone and up and down scan. Anyone found with weapons is pulled out of line and taken away. You see a few hold-out blasters, quiet of few 'knives' of 30cm or longer, several brass knuckles and one set of shock gloves.

AD-hoc, you were able to approach the gate and were mostly ignored during the sweep. The Auction employee didn't react until the Security officers left.

Once the officers leave, your left with about 20 beings standing on the street looking a little disconcerted. To your best guess, there may be 6 or 7 groups left to bid on the auction.

The 'auctioneer' opens the gate and waves everyone in. "This is going to be interesting." He mumbles, mostly to himself.

Creds meets Zailor's and Ken's gaze and raises his scruffy brows. "Not bad for one night of drinking and a little B & E," he says in a low tone. He then starts hobbling after the auctioneer, exaggerating his injuries for effect.

Still a little worse for wear, Ken submits to the search somewhat reluctantly. Not that he's carrying anything illegal, he just feels it's a professional failing that he couldn't sneak anything through last time. Still, at least his new threads are looking fly, even if they don't fit quite as well as he was hoping.

Seeing how uncomfortable the other bidders are with a Rodian present, Ken decides to use that to his advantage and drops back from the others, drifting nearer to the other groups, looking for their reactions, trying to see if they have anything hidden, any hidden knowledge as to what's in the containers.

As you file into the gated yard with the crates, Ken notices that remaining buyers appear much more relaxed than the ones the police arrested. One or two even smile and nod to him. It seems the folks you managed to rattle and cause to be arrested were the lesser threat. Those remaining must be the more experienced buyers, beings that have played this game and look to be as pleased as you guys for clearing the field somewhat.

"Alright, now that we've had our morning excitement, let's see if we can get these crates sold. As announced we have twenty shipping crates, all from a lost Separatist ship recently discovered just beyond the rim. The salvage crews packed these crates at random and the Freightmaster doesn't have the time or interest to sort them. Do I have an opening bid for 2000 credits on crate one?"

'I'll bid 2,000 credits,' says Ken eagerly, flinging his arm into the air.
OOC:
So failed roll #1 and #4 I'm afraid. Good luck Creds

OOC:
Don't forget Ken's boost on his first roll for his new threads!

I'll use Force Points on the first and fourth rolls to account for those failed rolls on Meph's part.

Lector's Outfit adds a boost to each roll.

Taking a boost on the first roll for sympathy for leaning into the injury/bandages. Ignore that last blue if this isn't OK.

Auctioneer's scarf adds +1 Success, +1 Advantage to each roll.
Creds leans into his injury bidding on the first desired batch of crates with a pained voice. The ploy seems to work, but the other parties soon grow tired of the schtick and increase the pressure. Nevertheless, the Lutrillian finds himself leaning into a past life as a used speeder salesman as he out-negotiates the other parties on each of the desired crate lots.
OOC:
With the scarf adding +1 success and +1 advantage to each roll, that should be 4/4 wins! There are a couple of despairs in those rolls, though...

As a Droid, it's easy for AD-hoc to hide how pleased he is with Cred's bidding accumen, although he does quielty say to Zailor "Jobs don't usually go this well for us. Between your might, and Cred's verve, we may be making a hefty profit"

@savagebob - Ken's success on rolls 2 and 3 would have given you an Upgrade. Wouldn't that have been 4 Y ?

OOC:
Creds is Presence 4, Negotiation 2, so he's normally YYGG in Negotiation. I got upgrades on each roll; two of them were from Ken's rolls, the other two were from Force Points. But I never got two upgrades on a single roll, I don't think, so I don't think I'd get to YYYY in this scene.

The sun has moved well past mid-day as the twenty rounds of bidding come to a close. Creds lines up with the other winners to pay his fee and collect the ownership chits for the crates he won. No one who remains looks especially peeved by the outcome. Even the Sullustan who only won the last crate because everyone pulled out early just to let him win one.

Letting the first crate go was the obvious ploy, especially since two was one of the target crates. Four just kind of fell into your lap as two of the bidders had a staring match and let the time expire. Ken won six and seven confusingly easy, his bravado temporarily throwing off the other bidders. But nine went to a Neimoidian who apparently decided Creds was overplaying his injury.

Creds adjusted his strategy and won twelve with ease. Fourteen looked to be in the bag, but Ken noticed the Neimoidian conversing with his associate and felt something was up. He raised the bid and the confused Neimoidian, who was sure by now they were working together. He just laughed, let them out bid each other. Maybe it was the lateness of the day, maybe it was his skill, but Creds seemed to have found his rhythm with the competition. Sixteen and Eighteen were his with little effort and even he made a small introductory bid on Twenty before letting the Sullustan win one.

Once the paper work is done, a quick comm to Niic Kenria at LLF and he dispatches a pair of cargo skiffs to pick up the crates to bring back to the office.

Creds rubs his hands together as if wiping away dirt. "That was a good run if I do so say myself!" His jowls split into a huge smile. "So guess we check in with HQ and get our cut? Then drinks all around!"
Jul 18, 2024 4:48 pm
'Well done everyone. A good day's work. And almost, mostly legal. As you know, I'm always up for a few drinks, but where did those Yiyar go?' asks Ken. It's not like the Yiyar to let something like this go quietly.
Jul 20, 2024 11:54 am
Even with the Yiyar arrested, there might be other threats. But that might be just my concern. So far I've been feeling like me being here as 'muscle' was not necessary. But I will be thank full for easy credits. Zailor explained to the rest of the team after contacting their employer, feeling like the job was too easy.
