1. Arrival in Abberton

Feb 22, 2024 8:21 am
It is within the sixth hour of day
OOC:
I use the medieval dividing time: 7 hours between dawn to dusk hours are shorter during winter, longer during summer, I'll give an hour corresponding to our 24 hours clock (unless you prefer 12 hours)
So it is about 1500-1500 hours (the sun sets around 1800 hours)
the circus arrive near the little town of Abberton where they decided to present their first performance, they used the winter break to prepare themselves installing and taking down the circus , preparing the show, to be ready on thi very first day.

Well, on tomorrow very first day, for today is mounting the circus and every one helped as much as they could, performers, handy men, even the Side Show of Everyday Marvels, lead by the Professor who presents in a small community strange creatures or people full of secrets and interesting stories and help to bring people to the circus.

It took the better part of an hour to set-up the camp to the joy of "Thunder" and all circus members. It is he, with th Professor", who decided to quit this horrible Celestial Menagerie, lead by an horrific she catfolk, Mistress Dusklight. Mistress indeed she treated sentient beings worst that animal and animal worst than sentient beings, and cruel, enjoying every bit of her corrupted power !

But today the proud circus of Wayward Wonders stand proudly in front of all Abberton, ready tomorrow for their first show.

Myron "Thunder" Stendhal

As dusk begin to fall, the fires are lighted and the tables are set for this first meal setting the new future of the group. Thunder takes a mug of bear and begins to talk to everyone.

So here we are, after all our sadness, our efforts, our hopes, our dreams, at the threshold of our future, our greatness! Tomorrow folks from the town will arrive, and although it is a small one, to us it is the most important for it here that tomorrow we fall or we rise, we weep for joy or for sadness, we'll see our hope crushed or exalted! It is here and then we'll know for sure if we can be the greatest circus of the Starstone Isles !

A great cheer explodes and with tha begins the banquet to celebrate the first show ever of the Wayward Wonders.
Feb 22, 2024 8:52 am
"Aye aye, boss!" Martha slams her tankard on the table in vigorous backing of the ringleader's words, though managing to spill not a drop of the beer inside. The red-bearded dwarf swigs and continues, "We're right behind ya, every step of the way. Ain't that right, Litta?" she says, elbowing the furry-faced acrobat besides her with a friendly nudge.
Feb 22, 2024 5:08 pm
Litta Straw has an enigmatic background, filled with rumor and suspicion. She came to join the Celestial Menagerie, aiming to be the lead acrobat, and perfecting her skills. Accidents abounded with some of the other stars, but her own involvement was never certain. Late nights in Dusklight the headmistress's tent, bruises and haunted looks, left her seeming like a victim as much as the others. Her fiery spirit dimmed, broken down by deprivation. Had she made some dark bargain, and if so with who? What price was she paying, and to whom? Rumours abounded about the relationship between the two catfolk.

In the new circus, the Wayward Wonders, she has once more dared to hope again. You could never tell that awfulness may have happened to her by her radiant smile when the spotlight is upon her. An easy performer, a natural showman.

In fact, it isn't too much of a stretch to call Litta Straw a wildly flamboyant performer. She's a tease with the men, a clown with the children, and a sister to the women, drawing them all into her orbit wherever she walks. Does she do her fair share setting up the tents? Well, what do you really want from her? Her bubbly spirit makes light work for many hands.

At the banquet, Litta lets out a long musical whoop, and laughs at Martha's exuberant tankard. She half-hugs the dwarf's shoulder, "The greatest show in the world! Whooooo!"

She stands up on her chair, feet dizzy from the rapid alchohol, and says, "We've the best performers!" she points at the knife-throwers, the juggler sisters, and the acrobat brothers, "We have the greatest spectacles," she points at the performers, Elizia, Alex, and Mordaine, "and we have the best support staff of any circus anywhere!" She slugs back her beer and falls backwards off her chair, somehow landing on her feet.
Feb 22, 2024 6:27 pm
Happy to be away from his previous employer, this new circus felt like a breath of fresh air. He couldn't bear the mistreatment of the animals at The Celestial Menagerie, and the cruel Mistress Dusklight, who would have been more aptly named, Mistress Darklight. She was a vile woman, cruel, abusive and vindictive. Oboth had a sneaking suspicion that poor Litta Straw was subject to terrible evils at her hands and his heart bled for her, so much so that he had written a ditty in his head that he someday hoped to perform for her.

Nodding at Martha, his excitement and optimism begin to grow, buoyed by the alcohol and the infectious joy and anticipation of the rest of the crew. Thunder sure knew how to excite the crew as Oboth cheered and clapped.

But visions of his past swirled through his mind, a happening that he had no control over. These vivid memories presented themselves for his review at the most inopportune of times. He shoved them away, almost physically pushing them aside with a flapping hand as he drank more deeply from his cup to chase those demons away.

"Here, here to the best circus on earth!"

He wouldn't fail them. The animals looked marvelous, their coats brushed to a slick sheen. And even though it wasn't his job, he had begun to train a few of his favorites. Small tricks that he hoped someday to reveal at the most opportune moment.

Gray (a typical looking elf, dressed nicely, short hair, pointed ears, etc.), sits near the back, raising his tankard, but doesn't add anything. He's not a loner by any means, but he wasn't part of the old circus, so felt a bit guilty celebrating as heartily as the others.
Even now he felt his time could still be better spent triple checking attendance projections, and supplies, but Thunder insisted this dinner was for everyone. Gray was just happy that all the hard work he put into getting Wayward Wonders all set, off the ground, on the map, ready to run, or whatever metaphor you prefer, had paid off.
He supposed one night of revelry wouldn't hurt anything, everyone else seemed to be having a grand time. He tipped his tankard, and settled in for what was sure to be a long night. Circus folk were definitely hearty.
Feb 23, 2024 1:16 am
"We'll give the townies a show like nothing they've ever seen!" Martha hoots. Now this is her kind of crowd, bubbling with real energy and cheer instead of the forced enthusiasm they mustered under the reins of Mistress Dusklight. "Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I work my best with a full belly," she adds, flashing a grin all around. "What chow are we having tonight, cook?"
Feb 23, 2024 3:18 pm
Rhea lifts her cup with the others. She has lived in the circus all her life with the Professor and hadn't he suggested that they broke off and form their own circus, she would have followed the call into the woods. Instead she sits here with a black parrot on her shoulder.
With it she started to see patterns and symbols everywhere. Even now, sitting within the circle of firelight is the healthy part of the circus, without the rot of people like Dusklight.
To her, Rhea was just another freak with different-coloured eyes. To Wayward Wonders, she is just family.

Gray says to Martha "I saw the cook with a bushel of sage and juniper, surely that means venison is on the menu tonight?
Feb 23, 2024 11:27 pm
And so continue the evening in a great joy and great hope, a load well served meal of a big family.

New day began a little late, and a little slow, but things went smoothly and the day pass to the Fifth hour of day (1630h) here the spectacle start. The Circus of Wayward Wonders performs in an enormous tent capable of holding hundreds of people - and that's a good thing, as it seems the entire population of Abberton has turned out for the show. Many of the town's most prominent citizens, including the mayor, are among the throng jostling for seats, peering at the three rings that fill the center of the tent, and waiting excitedly for the show to begin.

Circus people people begin to wonder "Where is Myron?" ... "Anyone seen Thunder, the show is beginning?" ... 'Where is our ring leader?"

As the lights go down and the audience settles onto their seats, the circus's performers take their places backstage, awaiting their cues. Suddenly, several of the performers closest to the curtain that separates the three rings from the rest of the tent leave their assignments, gathering in a small crowd to exchange frightened whispers and hushed gasps.
Feb 23, 2024 11:35 pm
The sky has started to dim outside the circus tents. Martha, from where she's leaning against a fencepost after an afternoon of setting up and ushering, notices the change in mood. She watches and, after the collected group of whispering folk still haven't disbanded, strides forward to approach them. "Ho, friends," she says in greeting, slinging a casual arm around the nearest person's shoulder. "What's the trouble here? You can tell Martha all about it."

At first, Oboth, who was standing in the wings readying the animals, was filled with excitement. The minutes before the show were always thrilling and a little unnerving. But when it became obvious that their ringleader was missing, he became very anxious and started stroking his feathered head, a nervous habit he developed as a youth and never lost.

"He's not here, Martha. Myron is not here and the show is about to start!"
Feb 24, 2024 7:07 am
The unrest is palpable. This won't do! Not on our first day!

Rhea makes a decision and goes up to the curtain between the audience, the rings and the show. From there so turns to face her circus family.
We will find Thunder, but the show has to start now! I will take the role of ring leader today.
Comfy?
She gives everyone a second to answer if they are comfortable with this arrangement.
Then take your places, everyone!
She has done this since she was five years old, getting ready, hearing the announcers, all of this. I can do this. she thinks to herself.

She turns to face the curtain, but then a last moment of inspiration hits. She calls her familiar, the black parrot and with a spell conjures a red and green silk-like ribbon. When we enter, I will speak and you will fly around trailing this ribbon over the audience. Comfy?
Feb 24, 2024 9:35 am
Martha turns as the human takes on the limelight, drawing the crowd's attention to her. She nods at Rhea's direction, though not sure whether the woman could see her at all. Probably shouldn't distract her, the dwarf thinks a second too late. "I'm not wanted in the ring. When's your turn coming up, Oboth? If it's a while yet, come with me to look for the boss."

She addresses the huddled whisperers. "Come! The more we all know, the better an idea of where to look we'll get. Where is the last place you saw Thunder?"
Feb 24, 2024 10:12 am
Litta grits her teeth but her face is a mask of serenity, a performers false facade already in place.

She nods at Martha and Oboth jerking her head for them to go look, and approaches the performers about to go on. "Places everyone, we will do this, for Thunder! Okay?"

The crowed performers takes a step back and all can see what the commotion when all noise stops and some says:
Thunder is no more !

The body is contorted as if caught forever in the throes of terrible pain, the last pose of Myron "Thunder" Stendhal. No more powerful voice that could brig instant silence to the largest crowd. He knew everything there is to know about putting a succesfull performance. Now he's dead, but the crowd is still out there, and they're expecting a show.

As the other performers stare at the corpse, whisper to each other, and anxiously pee around the curtain, the Professor--a thin and frail veteran of the circus--looks up.
Well, what are you all standing around for?
he asks, his weak voice barely audible in the hushed silence.
Have you seen that crowd? We haven't ever have the tent packed this full. There's a show to put on, and we have to find a way to do it. So finish your make up, get into costumes, and send in the clowns!

And most of the circus comes to life again. The Professor approach you.
Please take charge of the show, you are the only ones capable of staying focus in this terrible hours. Myron had confidence in you all.
OOC:
This show is the only required one, all the other one will be voluntary.

Gray chimes in. "Yes indeed, On with the show, as they say. I'm not needed out there, so I'll see what I can figure out back here."

nope not refusing, but i at least want to take a look at the body first, before anything happens to it. Not sure what to roll to inspect the body (medicine, im guessing?), then I can help make sure tonight's performance goes ok

"I don't really have a turn, Martha," he replies gently. "My job is readying the animals, lining them up to follow each act without delay. Of course in a pinch I can perform one of my melodic lullabies but then we risk me putting the crowd to sleep!"

He hopes his dash of humor puts the group at ease. The death of Thunder is a shock that they all had to ignore for the moment if the show was to go on.

"The animals are ready Professor!" Oboth announces with more confidence than he feels.

"Right," Martha lingers by the circus leader's body for a moment. "That solves one mystery at least. Rest well, boss..." She shakes her head. What a cruel thing to have happened.

"You heard the Professor. We can't help Thunder now, but at least we can pull off the show he wanted." She taps the wooden board slung across her back, painted with the circus's name. "I know a few simple tricks, so call me in when you need to fill an empty slot."

The dwarf sees Gray hovering nearby, wringing his hands. "Ask around, find out what you can," she encourages the elven man. "We'll all put our heads together after the show."
Feb 25, 2024 1:37 am
Litta's heart hammers in her chest, a murder! Of course, many of them feared retaliation for leaving Dusklight. That made it worse, for would the killer stop? Was the equipment still safe?

"Everyone, last minute safety checks. Don't take anything for granted. Check it and then perform knowing you can rely on it all." She chaps her hands. "Places everyone!"

Places, that is the problem. Myron did not leave any instruction, you know he liked to improvise and was only in the resent--was, that is so hard to say. So you must put together the show, the clowns are going to enter to gain us some time.

First the opener, we need something that will make the audience want to stay. So far we have Axel, the Dwarven, Elazia, the Flamboni, the Kambali, Mordaine and Rhéa.

We need 2 tricks for the build up, 1 for the main attraction, and 3 for the finale. It was too long for me, I am somwhat out of touch with the show. You will have to make all the calls.
OOC:
For those who want a performance, please create it. You may discuss of the strategy for the show before we continue.
Feb 25, 2024 4:42 pm
Right!
Rhea step up on a crate. Today we are doing:
Buildup: The Dwarven Throwers (team) Get ready I'll introduce you in a moment.
Buildup: Alex Amazing Aviary (animal)
Main attraction: The Feather-Fall Five (agile)
Finale: Mordaine the Magician (injury)
Finale: The Flamboni Sisters (fire)
And I'll close with Rhea Everheart (animal) and the elephants.
In the end, we will all take the ring and give them a bow. Tomorrow we'll make a better plan! Comfy?

We need an opener, and Thunder was a little worried about Axel, he is willing but he is unproven, it will be his first show. Everyone agrees ?
Feb 25, 2024 4:49 pm
"What about the rest of us? You want us to sit aside and hold our butts?" Litta is put out for not being given a spot much less top billing. Not that she deserves top billing, but who didn't want that?

Axel

Axel

Axel jut happened to walk not to fr away.

Please, give me a chance, I will be amazing, I know I can, it's so important, do not eject me from the show.
OOC:
@Qralloq You need to create your trick, it is not too late. I start fast, that will build a littl stress even in writing.
Feb 25, 2024 8:19 pm
"I'll make sure the elephants and the rest of the animals are ready and waiting at the entrance," Oboth announces. He's getting more excited by the minute and uses this to focus on his job rather than the death of their ringleader.
OOC:
You are suppose to help getting the show on, you are part of the crew Thunder put his confidence in. If it does not interest you, it is ok to I guess.
Feb 25, 2024 9:10 pm
OOC:
To clarify something, Rhea is not in charge to choose the show all by herself. You are all invited to talk an choose, since Mylton had confidence in all of you as a group.

Second if you do not perform in this show, you can still choose a crew job to help the show. And last, you cannot perform AND be part of the crew, example you cannot do a trick and be ringleader.
Feb 25, 2024 10:34 pm
OOC:
Martha's happy enough to help with the background crew tasks. Since Rhea wants to do an act, we can let Litta be the ringmaster instead for this first show.

How do crew jobs work mechanically? Sorry if I missed reading a post explaining it.

I almost missed the OOC post you left in my post. It's confusing when you edit a post and don't identify you've done so. Could you put 'GM Edit' at the beginning? Still it's better not to do that since I am not alerted to you having added to my post.

I am confused, especially since you mentioned above that a crew job is ok. My PC is helping getting the show on by prepping the animals and leading them to the ring when it's time for them to perform.
Feb 25, 2024 11:37 pm
OOC:
The crew job and the performer job is for the show itself. Here is a special case where you choose who performs what when. It is normally part of the manage a circus game. So planning is not a performer or a crew job, it is a "meta-job" not part of the show. So if you want you can take part of the planning and for the show you will be a crew member, just like Rhea is planning and will possibly be a performer (or a crew if not)
Feb 26, 2024 12:21 am
OOC:
Using Oboth's animal wrangling as an example, does guiding the animals into and out of the ring count as a crew job? If so, do they need to make a Command An Animal check to "do" the crew job?

I don't wish to dictate anything, just wanted to percent an option. Sometimes its easier to have an opinion to a formed plan, than to come up with something yourself. That was my goal here.
If someone feel that Rhea should not introduce and preform then that is an RP opportunity. I'm still getting to know the character but I feel that she is very impulsive and decisive, so it would be in her character to whip out a plan - good or bad

Mar 4, 2024 9:13 am

Nope, for each performance as 3 actions and we must choose what action to make. If you want to speed up someone has to choose and answer my questions. If there is not enough Excitement the Circus doesn't get as much money. And as I said, this is the only required show and there will be some actions in it.

It is true I can speed up for this one, not much choice I edit its post.
While the Dwarves some noises begins in the audience a group of three humans are making loud bets on the dwarves performance, disturbing the show. How do you react (You are all free to react)

@crazybirdman: Your character cannot make sure the body is safe and sound and go help with the ruffans.

ok, Gray will leave Thunder's body where it is, and go deal with ruffians. Where are they, what are they doing?

Gray roams the crowd, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves, but also keeping an eye out for trouble. He notices a louder group of patrons, and keeps an eye on them, while the performers continue.

Mar 7, 2024 10:08 am
Although Martha's speech seemed to work the arrival a person armed with a dagger did not go well, and suddenly the three ruffins took ther own dagger, one of them smiled an evil smile.

If it is a fight you want, we're ready ! Common then !

The folk in the audience who were bothered by the noise are now frightened and you can see scorns at the ratfolk clown that unsheash a dagger provoking even more problem. The situation is not good, if it is not rapidly dealt with, the public may return with a bad memory (negative excitement for th show)
Mar 7, 2024 10:59 am
"What, ol' Giccy? That's just part of the show," Martha says firmly. "See the makeup? Bet you haven't seen a clown juggle knives before." She gives the other performer a meaningful look. "I'm sure you need to go backstage and get ready for the performance."
Mar 7, 2024 11:00 am
Vespera, with her natural charm and performance skills, steps forward, gracefully acknowledging the tension in the air. She raises her hands in a calming gesture, smiling warmly.

"Ladies and gentlemen, friends of the circus, we are here to provide you with a spectacle of joy and wonder. Let's not let a few misunderstandings ruin this night of celebration. We invite you to join us in the magic that awaits, and together, let's create memories that will last a lifetime."

Vespera begins an impromptu performance, using her glaive to create elegant, swirling patterns in the air. The colored silk scarves from her costume become extensions of her dance, floating gracefully around her. The intention is to shift the focus away from the brewing conflict and redirect it toward the mesmerizing beauty of the circus arts.

She moves closer to the rowdy individuals, incorporating them into her performance with a twirl of her glaive, inviting them to join in the magic of the moment. The hope is that through the power of entertainment and the shared experience of wonder, the tension in the air will dissolve, allowing the circus to continue its show without further disruption.

As Vespera gracefully moves towards the rowdy dwarves, she discreetly leans in, whispering to them with a sly smile, "My friends, let's turn this into a performance worth betting on. Play along, join the dance, and I promise you a share of the excitement and profits. Help us make this night unforgettable for everyone, and you'll find your purses a bit heavier by the end of it."

As she continues her captivating performance, so tries to urge the dwarves to begin to mimic her movements, turning the potential clash into an unexpected and entertaining collaboration.

Vespera continues her performance, seamlessly incorporating the rowdy individuals into the routine. As Gray attempts to gain the crowd's support for the newcomers, Vespera takes advantage of the distraction and steps forward with an elegant twirl, positioning herself between the ruffians and the audience.

With a captivating smile, she extends her glaive, its gleaming blade catching the light as she begins a skillful display of her own. Engaging in a dance of precision and finesse, Vespera twirls the glaive in intricate patterns, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that draws the attention away from the newcomers.

As Gicicero skillfully juggles the daggers, Vespera coordinates her movements to complement his act, enhancing the overall visual appeal. The combination of graceful glaive maneuvers and expert juggling captures the audience's attention, creating an atmosphere of awe and wonder.

Vespera, ever the master of showmanship, takes center stage with a gracious bow, her glaive gleaming in the spotlight. As she rises, she motions towards the three ruffians with a charismatic smile, introducing them to the eager crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests of the Wayward Wonders Circus, tonight we have a special surprise for you! In the spirit of unity and unexpected delights, I present to you three daring individuals who have graciously joined us in the center ring! They bring with them a unique energy, and together, we shall weave a tale of danger and skill that will leave you breathless!"

The three ruffians hurry to leave the place.

Axel

The second act is about to tart when suddenly the young Axel freezes when he must get on stage. It is his first show as you all know and stage fright seize him and hold him with a steel hand.

There is so many people, I can't go there, I'm shaking all over.

The Flamboni sisters are ready but they must go all together.
Mar 9, 2024 3:06 pm
Litta pats Axel on the head. "You'll do fine. We're all here watching out for you and we'll have your back. Now scoot!"

I tke the view they will perform at least twice since you have 2 sending the clown possible, if one mses in the first round, we will advise.
Axel

Axel is very conident for his first tricks and the magic of birds coming from nowhere is quite impressive. But his second trickis a botch that would not bring any anticipation unless the clowns are sent !

Flambonis

The Flambonis are juggling with fire and doing pass from one to another, it is very impressive and everyone cheers in front of such a prowess. There second trick is a success building on some more impressing fire tricks.

OOC:
Although the clown will be sent for Axel in this last trick giving +1 Excitement), the question remains for the Flambonis, with 1d20 and a DC 15, if they do a 1-5 they get a Critical Failure, loosing 1 Excitement: 6-14 It is a failure without consequences, 15+ is a success with 1 Excitement

So far we have Anticipation 15, Excitement 7 (up to trick 2)

So do you send th Sisters for a third Trick ? I you do not want to send the clown you are not obliged, you can try for a 3rd trick from Axel (1-2 critical faile, 3-12 fail, 13+ success)

Vespera, feeling the weight of the less-than-impressive start, takes a moment to gather herself. She acknowledges the departure of the dwarven ruffians with a resigned nod, understanding that her attempt to seamlessly integrate them into the routine fell short.

As Axel freezes on stage due to stage fright, Vespera watches with a mix of empathy and determination. Despite his hesitation, it is Litta's words which inspire the young magician to wow the audience, which he does with the charisma and flair of a huckster born. She looks at Litta with a soft smile, gently brushes the fine layer of fur on her shoulder, "Good job with him, Litta," a gentle pat as she turns back towards the center ring. When Axel's second trick encounters a stumble, Vespera maintains a supportive presence, trusting in the resilience of the young performer. She refrains from offering words of encouragement directly, allowing Litta to continue being a source of support.

Turning her attention to the Flamboni sisters, Vespera allows herself a genuine smile as they captivate the audience with their fiery juggling act. The cheers from the crowd echo in approval, and Vespera nods in acknowledgment of their success. The contagious energy of the performance begins to lift her spirits, and she watches with a renewed sense of hope for the show.

As Gicicero prepares for his juggling act, Vespera addresses him with confidence. "Gicicero, it's your time to shine. Delight the audience with your expert juggling, and I'll be back shortly to join you. Keep the energy high!"

With Gicicero taking the stage, Vespera takes a moment to investigate the disturbance in the left side of the audience, her senses alert and her determination to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the spectators unwavering.

@Vespera: this is not Gicero turn, for now the question is t know 1- What to do for the 3rd Trick For Axel send the clown or give him a 3rd trick to perform 2- What to do for the 3rd trick with the Flambonis since there is a risk of critical failure, and 3- Does anyone react to te fear the hear in the public not to far to their left.

After this Act it is the Main Number with Mordaine solo.

Apologies, I am unaware of the order of the acts; I thought to send the guy who hasn't done a trick yet. I could only do 1 trick, why are the NPC's doing 2 & 3? I'd rather not risk a flat d20 vs DC 15, so cancel the 3rd attempt and send in Mordaine I guess. Though I am not ringmaster so it's not really my call.

In regards to the disturbance, I already stated that I was heading in that direction. Do you want a perception check, or she will arrive at the speed of plot?

"Ladies and gentlemen, what an unexpected treat we have for you! You've just been given a sneak peek at Mistress Elizia's latest act, featuring these magnificent vipers. Now, how about we all take a step back, give her skilled assistants some room, and let the magic continue backstage?"

She gestures toward the performers who are discreetly managing the vipers, creating an air of excitement rather than alarm. "These incredible creatures are part of the circus family, and we're thrilled to share this behind-the-scenes moment with you. So, let's stay calm and give our performers the space they need to work their enchantment."

Vespera's playful tone and positive framing help to ease the tension in the crowd. She subtly encourages them to enjoy the unexpected glimpse into the circus's inner workings, turning a potential disturbance into an opportunity for the audience to feel more connected to the performers.

I did not see your Nature result, clearly you know that it is a very bad idea. You realize the snakes are scared and the best way is to gently shoo them away. Trying to put them in a bag will only result in scaring them even more and that might result in a catastrophe.

If in spite of your result in nature (taht will allow you to shoo them correctlyà you want to continue with the sac:
- You may throw a wisdom check DC 15 to see if for some odd reason you decided to bring a bag
- You then need a Nature check DC 30 to bag them (it takes a DC 20 expert level just to shoo them away)

Understanding the urgency of the situation and the need to maintain the safety of the performers, Vespera swiftly calls upon the riggers to find a replacement net for the Kambalis' act. She emphasizes the importance of ensuring the performers' safety above all else and trusts in the riggers' expertise to swiftly resolve the issue.

"Riggers, we need you to work your magic and find a replacement net for the Kambalis' act. Time is of the essence, so let's move quickly and ensure the safety of our performers."

As the riggers spring into action, Vespera addresses the growing concern among the performers about the series of mishaps plaguing the circus. She acknowledges the possibility of sabotage but urges everyone to remain focused and determined to see the show through, especially in honor of Thunder, the beloved deceased ringmaster.

"It seems like we're facing more than our fair share of challenges tonight, but we can't let that dampen our spirits. Thunder would want us to push through and give it our all, no matter what obstacles come our way."

She looks around at the worried faces of her fellow performers, offering a reassuring smile and a nod of encouragement. "We've faced tough times before, and we've always come out stronger on the other side. Let's keep our heads held high and show the world what the Wayward Wonders Circus is made of."

With a renewed sense of determination and unity, Vespera leads the performers in rallying together to overcome the challenges ahead. Despite the setbacks, the circus remains resilient, fueled by their shared dedication to honor Thunder's memory and deliver a memorable show for their audience.

My faith allows me to heal and protect, and I will be watching over you every step of the way."

Vespera's words resonate with the Kambali family, instilling a sense of reassurance and confidence in their abilities. She continues, her voice ringing with conviction.

"An act without a net would be a show-stopping, death-defying thrill for our audience, a testament to the unparalleled skill and bravery of the great Kambali family. Together, we can create a moment of pure magic, a testament to the indomitable spirit of the circus."

As she walked towards the ladder that would lead the family to the trapeze and the high wire above, she gave them a wink, "After all, as Thunder, himself, would have said, 'The show must go on.'"

Understanding the Kambali family's concerns and respecting their decision, Vespera nods in acknowledgment. "I hear you, and I understand your hesitation. Your safety and well-being are of the utmost importance, and I would never want to pressure you into doing something you're not comfortable with."

With a reassuring smile, she adds, "We'll find another way to ensure the show goes on smoothly. Perhaps we can revisit this idea in the future, under safer circumstances. For now, let's focus on delivering the best performance we can, together as a troupe."

Leaving the Kambali family to their deliberations, Vespera turns her attention to the disturbance in the crowd, her instincts urging her to investigate further. "I'll go check out the disturbance in the crowd," she says, her voice resolute. "You all take a moment to gather yourselves, and I'll be back shortly."

With a sense of purpose, Vespera moves through the bustling crowd, her mind focused on uncovering the source of the disturbance and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the audience.

The patrons' pleas for peace go unheeded, and the drunken ruffian, emboldened by both alcohol and the desire for conflict, raises his hand in a menacing arc towards an innocent bystander.

In that split second, Vespera's champion instincts kick in. With grace born of both her elven heritage and her martial prowess, she steps forward, positioning herself between the ruffian and his intended target. Her reaction is not just a physical intervention but a manifestation of her divine mandate to protect and preserve beauty and love in all its forms.

As Vespera's hand, encased in her gleaming gauntlet, meets the ruffian's arm, there's a sudden, ethereal bloom of radiant energy that emanates from the point of contact. This energy, suffused with the essence of Shelyn, does not merely halt the blow but seems to momentarily transfix those nearby with its beauty. It's as if the very air around them is imbued with a shimmering, roseate glow, soft but undeniable.

The backhand that follows is swift and precise, a physical reprimand delivered with the intention not to harm but to underscore the sanctity of peace and respect. The impact is accompanied by a melodious chime, a sound that resonates deeper than mere physicality, echoing the disapproval of the goddess herself towards acts of violence and ugliness.

Her face is a mask of contained fury, anger and offense barely restrained beneath a facade of tempered composure. "Here," she seethed, "where every performer, worker, and audience member is woven into the tapestry of this circus, of our family, know this: any harm inflicted upon them is an affront not just to their individual beings, but to the very heart and soul of our shared home."

With a deliberate motion, Vespera shifts her grip on her polearm, holding it firmly in both hands. The haft of the weapon becomes an extension of her resolve, a symbol of her commitment to protect those within the circus's embrace.

In a single fluid motion, she swings the haft of her polearm towards the ruffian who had attempted to strike an audience member, aiming to incapacitate rather than cause lasting harm.

"Leave now," Vespera commands, her tone firm but not devoid of mercy. "There will be no further violence, but know this: you are barred from ever again standing in our house. Choose wisely, for the path of peace is always open to those who seek it."

Despite the searing pain radiating through her body from the vicious blow she had just endured, Vespera refuses to succumb to weakness. With gritted teeth and steely resolve, she shakes off the agony, blood trickling down her scalp, her focus unwavering as she prepares to confront the escalating chaos unfolding before her.

Given the escalating situation and Vespera's commitment to resolving it without resorting to lethal force, her decision to release her grip on the polearm and intervene by grappling Gray's opponent is a wise one. Despite the pain from the woman's attack, Vespera channels her inner strength and focuses on defusing the conflict.

As she moves to restrain the husband, her movements are swift and decisive, fueled by a determination to protect her circus family and restore order to the chaos. With practiced efficiency, she aims to immobilize the man without causing him harm, using her martial prowess to subdue him swiftly and effectively.

With a swift and determined motion, Vespera's arm snakes out, encircling the husband's neck in a firm but controlled grip. Her voice, though strained from the pain still lingering in her body, carries an air of authority and resolve.

"Really, sir," she says, her tone firm but measured. "Let's take this outside, away from the stands and the innocent bystanders. There's no need for this violence here." Her words are a plea for reason, a reminder that civility and respect should prevail even in the face of conflict.

They just assaulted a performer with a piece of firewood, this is a medieval society, so I am sure that our actions aren't out of the ordinary in defense of a) the audience and b) the performers. Besides healing magic & medicine are so prevalent it shouldn't be damaging to our reputation at all. Hell, Vespera can heal 36 hp's an hour without even rolling.
Mar 29, 2024 1:38 pm
OOC:
The scenario is pretty clear use of lethal weapon in this instance, means audience is scare/uncomfortable and brings bad rep on the circus, so -2 in Exciting.

So sap, maces and pieces of wood are OK for they are not lethal, sword (or glaive) on the other hand is not, unless it is specifically used as non-lethal.
Mar 29, 2024 1:42 pm
OOC:
maces are, explicitly, lethal, so are clubs. If a guy came into a crowd swinging a piece of fire wood that could crack a skull, and a guard dropped him with a spear, nobody would accuse the guard of over reacting.

Do note that while Pathfinder 2e gives you the option of using 3 Strikes every turn, it's generally not great because you get a -5 penalty for every consecutive Strike.
Martha circles around while the others are occupying the angry woman, ducking in for what she hopes is a quick takedown. They had more important things to deal with than a silly brawl!

Th fight is over.
Apr 6, 2024 9:58 pm
Shaking her head, Martha goes over to check on all three of the downed combatants. She winces at the bloodied man. "Hey!" She raises her voice, looking around for the nearest circus member. "Quit gawking and get us a medic over here!"

Apr 7, 2024 1:56 pm

As soon as healers arrive and the wounded are attended to, Gray will go and talk to any of the crowd that are still around. He wants to make sure they're okay, try to explain his side of things, and do his best to see that at least some people still see the circus in a good light.

Martha sighs. "They started the fight, yes, but pocketing a few trifles will hardly make the villagers look on us better, will it? Word gets around. How will we fill the tent for our next performance if people think they'll be robbed after the show?"
Apr 8, 2024 4:52 pm
Gicicero revive rapidly Vespera, but the other two ruffians take a little more time. They do not seem as talkative as before and are a littl worry about what may happen to them.
Apr 14, 2024 12:12 pm
As Vespera regains consciousness, she finds herself being tended to by Gicicero, who skillfully applies his knowledge of medicine to revive her. With a grateful nod, she accepts his aid before rising to her feet, her determination unyielding despite the recent altercation.

Using her divine abilities, Vespera channels healing energy to ensure that both herself and Gicicero are fully restored. As their wounds close and the pain recedes, she stands tall, ready to address the situation with authority.

With a stern yet composed demeanor, Vespera addresses the two ruffians, her voice carrying the weight of her conviction. "This circus, these tents, are sacred spaces," she begins, her words measured and firm. "They are dedicated to the pursuit of performance, laughter, and joy. To bring violence into such a place is an affront to all who dedicate their lives to spreading happiness."

She pauses, allowing her words to sink in before continuing. "I hope you understand the gravity of your actions today. There are plenty of places for conflict, but this is not one of them. As a consequence of your behavior, you are hereby banned from attending any future shows of the Wayward Wonders. This decision is final."

With a final glance, Vespera conveys both disappointment and resolve. "I hope you take this lesson to heart and find better ways to spend your time. Enjoy the next show, wherever it may be, for it will not be here."
Apr 14, 2024 8:22 pm
The two drunks run out of the show, the near audience claps a little to the end of the disturbance.
Apr 14, 2024 9:55 pm
Gray will make sure to tell the local authorities in Abberton about these two.
