Laser feelings question: What's the best way to stop the pirares from causing damage?
Jun 6, 2024 4:29 am
Logic traces a clawed finger over the map, eyes grim.

"It is imperative that we stop these foolish pirates. The gate is not just a physical machine; it subtends a delicate quantum infrastructure, like the casing of our ship's warp core. Compromise the infrastructure and the whole edifice comes crashing down most ... energetically." His grim visage momentarily flickers even grimmer as he contemplates the destruction that a warp gate collapse would cause.

"I propose that we quickly secure this power coupler and then divide into two strike teams to investigate the others. Even if one falls, perhaps we can keep the quantum seal intact."

Laser Feelings question: Who's behind this?
Jun 7, 2024 4:37 pm
Redstone and McGunner come together and quickly figure out that the power outage was due to one of the three power couplers being forcefully disconnected. With this information, and thinking back to the simulation on the bridge, Logic does some time-of-flight calculations on the back of a space napkin and pinpoints exactly which one it must have been: the furthest, #3 on the map.
OOC:
Laser-feelings!

Prevent them from disrupting the two remaining couplers. There are many ways to accomplish this, peacefully or otherwise, but you will need to get close for all of them.

Who's behind this?
The pirates are a loose collective of raiders. Currently, they are led by someone by the name of Harper.
Just two couplers remain active. Time is getting short. What do you do?
Jun 8, 2024 11:29 am
"I vote we haul ass to the closest coupler and stop these scum before they do some real damage."
Jun 9, 2024 12:44 am
"Mr. McGunner, thank you for this acute tactical evaluation. Let us hurry!"
Abara gets in line behind his fellow crewmates, phaser set to stun.

Robo-Barbie says nothing. She nods and falls in line, while also contemplating the psychology of the criminal mind, in part based on what she’s heard.

Hopefully she will be more prepared next time she has to interrogate a prisoner!
OOC:
Ready to move to coupler #2!

OOC:
Just to be clear, did we make sure that the immediate coupler is secured? Were the pirates we neutralized the only ones in this area?
Jun 10, 2024 4:31 pm
OOC:
The nearby one is not yet secure. You were told there were two crews assigned to each.
Jun 10, 2024 4:55 pm
Logic checks the charge on his sidearm and sniffs the air.

"Go swiftly, and secure the second coupler. I will neutralize any bottom feeders still in the vicinity of this one."

With that, he stalks off to find the second group of pirates.

Scott will lead a small crew to go to the next coupler. Who is going with him?
Jun 11, 2024 10:00 pm
Did somebody say ‘small crew?’
OOC:
But really, I think if we’re gonna split the party, probably best to balance out the groups with low-number and high-number characters.

—so RB would join McGunner.

Abara equally check his phaser, mimicking Logic's determination.
"Mr. Logic, let me accompany you, in case unorthodox should methods be required."

Logic and Abara, you hustle down the maintenance corridor to reach the nearest coupler.

After a couple of minutes, you emerge onto a catwalk which runs around the internal equator of a sphere at least a hundred metres in diameter. The moment you step of out the corridor, Logic, your electroreceptors pick up massively powerful electromagnetic fields in the air. A cluster of dark machines at the base of the sphere breaks the otherwise clean white interior.

A quarter of the way around the gantry, you can both see three pirates awkwardly making their way down. They have ropes tied to the catwalk guard rail.
OOC:
What do you do?

McGunner and Robo Barbie, you split off from the others, heading towards the rapid transit system marked on the map. When you arrive, you find a soft vacuum maglev with capsules large enough for a couple of average-sized humanoids. A capsule is already in place, its door open.
OOC:
@zatatmando, feel free to have Redstone join whichever group you like!

Robo-Barbie hops in, but she is not the best person for driving. She contemplates what she’s learned from the pirates so far, and what she might anticipate…
OOC:
I think when the ship flies, Feelings for an intuition roll might be appropriate. Prepared applies, I believe. Not sure about Expertise though. She’s an expert in psychology, but not an expert on pirates.
…she’ll report any perceived likely threats and/or possible solution to McGunner, should any come to mind.

Can you let me know more precisely what your are rolling for here, @Legendary_Sidekick?
Jun 16, 2024 8:20 pm
OOC:
@onceandfuture, As she and McGunner mp into the pod and fly toward their next target, Robo-Barbie is trying to anticipate the pirates’ likely first move or the likelihood they are alerted at all.

My thinking is that she’s studying the ship as they approach, considering the first pirates’ behaviors and the fact they’re on a pirates’ escape pod, which is detectable. What might the pirates on ship #2 make of an approaching pod from ship #1?

Short answer: she’s predicting pirates’ behaviors. (Or attempting to anyway.)

Abara carefully aims his phaser, and - signalling Logic to do likewise - then fires a warning shot, amining right next to the head of the pirate being furthest down.
"Hold it right there!"
OOC:
Would argue that this is intimidation, so using Lasers. Would argue that additional die is justified as we have initiative/upper hand. Also hoping for Logic's support!

Aha, got it – thanks! That's my fault for not being clear. The transit system is like tube that the capsule moves through, so no active flying required. You will arrive at the transit station nearby the other coupler.
