Character Creation

For anyone confused, the chart on the sheet represents how many items you can carry (as determined by your Str in the case of packed items). Equipped items, which includes anything held, sheathed, or belted on, go on the left, while anything packed in a backpack or sack goes on the right. The item-based encumbrance rules define how many slots each item takes up, if any. You start listing items at the top, slowing down when you hit the movement rates in the middle column until you can't carry anything anymore. I'm also further requiring that you account for actually having a backpack or sack to put the packed items into.

Since I'm noticing some confusion about item-based encumbrance, I will put it to you guys whether you want to use the Detailed Encumbrance in the rulebook—where the weight of weapons and armor is tracked along with treasure, and adventuring gear is assumed to weigh 80 lbs. I think this is closer to what's actually in the D&D Basic rules. You will still have to buy backpacks and sacks to carry your gear in. Unfortunately, those of you whom I have approved will have to do a little more work on your sheets, but it may make taking inventory a little easier.

I’m ok either way.

I don't mind slot-based, I do personally think the slots in backpacks and sacks are too low. But I'll go with whatever the group/GM/east wind decides.

I think I have another noob question... maybe 2, actually. first, is it possible to fill out the character sheet in the preview mode, somehow, it never seems to save for me.

Second, maybe I'm too blind or something like that, but saving throws, movement, and such, are they mentioned somewhere in the rules or are they all calculated? I can't seem to find them in the rules. If they are calculated, how do I calculate them?

I'll probably have more questions down the line... Just a head up.

Edit: NVM, found the saving throws

"Preview" mode won't save a thing. Don't fill out your sheet in that mode! "Save" or "Save and Continue" -- then fill it out.

So no way to just fill out the fields, only works in mode that looks like "code"

Then I'll need to wait until after work it's too chaotic on the phone :D

Now I'm not sure what you mean. Editing the sheet you can make changes. When the sheet is saved, you can fill in those fields that were built with the function. It's just if you're in edit mode and are previewing -- changes to those form-fillable fields won't stick in that mode.

So, when I press edit,
I get something like this:

Character Summary
Race/Class: Thief
Title:
Alignment:
Level: 1

And on my phone it's a mess to fill out because the screen is not the biggest

And of course when I post it in here it is graphics... Dang it

f=font-aladin h2]Alignment: [/f]
[f=font-aladin h2]Level: 1[/
[/col]

That's more like it...

So there are three views.

Sheet view. This is what you get when you just open your sheet. You can add stuff in here! Is good!

Edit view. This is where you see the code. You can add stuff in here. Is good!

Preview mode. This is when you move to edit mode and hit Preview. Looks a lot like Sheet view. You can not add stuff here. Is bad!

I never realized that I can just change things in the sheet when I click on the characters name... 🤦🏼‍♂️

Okay, I think I've got them straight now.

Good progress, WhtKnt, but it's not quite there. I probably should have done this in the first place, but maybe it will help if I demonstrate how I would fill out the chart on the item-based encumbrance sheet. My example is using Morgan, the example fighter on p. 2 of the item-based encumbrance rules.

I suppose we can always just use a simpler method to track encumbrance, but I do hope this helps clear things up in regards to item-based.

Is there a reference for the attack value matrix? And equipment I pick from the list in the rule book and subtract their gold value from the gold I rolled, right?

HP and starting gold rolls for both characters.

Re-roll starting HP for Farem Dor.

Rolls

Farem Dor HP - (1d8)

(2) = 2

Bofum Dor HP - (1d8)

(4) = 4

Farem Dor starting gold - (3d6)

(551) = 11

Bofum Dor starting Gold - (3d6)

(431) = 8

Farem Dor HP (again) - (1d8)

(7) = 7

The attack value matrix is shown on the pp. 16 and 19 of the Advanced rules, but you can also calculate the values by subtracting the armor class in the table from your thac0 (which is 19 for 1st-level characters).

Yes, your starting gold is the amount you have with which to buy equipment.

That's so cool; I didn't realize she was the fighter from Basic! She looks so badass, I might just have to sneak her in the game, lol.
