1.1 Madness and Prophecy

As you drag Myrneth away back towards the Inn you realise that he's been clutching a sheaf of documents and parchment to his chest and it falls to the ground as you pull him away. Picking up and reading the parchment you see that it's comprised of a number of documents which make repeated mention of a giant cocoon, massive eggs and the end of the world. One document jumps out as the odd one out in this rambling collection. It appears to be a flyer for a ferry company.
Quote:
CHARON FERRY COMPANY
Serving the Good Town of Haven
All Points Across the Acheron
and Cocytus Rivers
Boathouse Located on Riverbank
at Asphodel Meadows
Ferrymen Available Sunset to Sunrise
Meanwhile Eleanor cradles her daughter Amalia who is slowly coming to her senses. The girl appears muddled and is humming the strange sound you heard as you enter the alley.

Xanxus listens to the young girl for a bit to make sure he'll be able to remember the tone later for reference.
"You'll want to quite her if you can from that or when we get back you might find yourself still looking at the building from the outside, the barkeep might be the paranoid type... Anyone heard of the Charon Ferry Company?" he advises before asking the rest shoving the papers in his sack before getting back to dragging the old man back to the inn.

On arrival at the Inn, you show the innkeep (now looking more than a little concerned after the evenings events) the flyer. "Never heard of it" he says "Well, not until the other day anyway when I found this on one of the tables as I was locking up." A small tinder box is produced from under the bar, distinctly marked "Charon Ferry Company. From Sunset to Sunrise." He turns the tinderbox over to reveal that the underside of the box is decorated with an intricately carved map.

Domitius started organizing his minion's bones on the table before him. He had gathering them after the fight and was closely examining them; he sorted them into two piles - one for those damaged beyond use and the other for those that still had some life left in them. He looked up at the innkeeper's demonstration of the box. "Strange that one would carelessly leave such a box behind. Did anyone come asking for it later?"

Do we recognize the map?

OOC:
Given that this adventure started with you waking up in a strange tavern in an unknown world then no.....

Xanxus tries to make heads or take of the map and flips the box over and shakes it slightly. Looking at the barkeep he stares, "Did you open the box?

Haguk watches the scene mostly in silence. When shown the map he shrugs and looks at the innkeeper. "Do you have a map of the area we could compare it to?"

Elke finds it difficult to tear her eyes from the young girl. Is there anything she could tell them or is she a broken lost cause now. Not that she blames her

"Just open the box." She grumbles to Xanxus. Her patience is wearing thin and this is the longest she's ever been in a tavern when she's not already been on the way to stinking drunk. "Unless it's got more of that ruddy mist inside how bad can it be?"
Oct 26, 2016 10:27 am
The innkeeper says "I'm glad you asked me that because that's been puzzling me as well. You see, that there is Havenwest Meadow (points at area on tin). It's recognisably the meadow. But there's no river runs through the meadow like the map suggests. You'd need a cart to cross that meadow, not a ferry boat. Probably got it engraved out of town I 'spect. Poor local knowledge."

The girl comes round some more but can only talk of the most lilting, beautiful song she ever heard in her life.

"Maybe the river shows up in the mist when you hear that song..." Xanxus wildly assumes...suggested and attempts to open the box.

The box opens easily and contains nothing more than you'd expect a tinderbox to contain. Flint, firesteel, some sulphur-tipped matches and tinder in the form of what looks like dried hemp.

"Rivers change and moves with the seasons. Perhaps it is an old map," Haguk offers up.

"Or we can set someone on fire and see how that works..." Xanxus muses aloud with a wicked smile looking to the old man. Going over he jabs the old man in the ribs a few times to see if the crazy old man has some more enlightenment not in the form of cryptic gibberish hopefully.

The Barman is still musing over the map. He asks you to pass him the flyer. "Hmm. Asphodel Meadow. Never 'eard of it. That's Havenwest Meadow. Well I'll be damned. It's a mystery sure enough. Now, what will you be drinking?"
Oct 26, 2016 9:21 pm
"Martini. Shaken, not stirred."

"Water, ice cold if you have it... preferably in a bucket big enough for a head..." Xanxus states flatly still poking the old man before he rolls him over to prop him up before taking off his glove.

"Myrneth do you want to be woken from being slapped with a forehand or backhand? Both?" he rhetorically asks the sleeping man?

"Havenwest Meadow you say?" Xanxus asks before leaning sideways and giving Myrneth a proper lap across the face... It's all in the hips Xanxus thinks with a slight smile on his face. If he gets no response he'll continue to slap the old man silly unless water comes.

"I'll not bother." Elke grumbles. Still thinking about the irregular map she holds her hand out for the box and runs her calloused finger over the map engravings as it's passed to her. She looks to the barkeep. "You don't seem surprised that we've appeared here. Has anyone else suddenly shown up like this before?"

Myrneth opens his eyes with a start and mutters "The end of the world. The cocoon. Quickly" then slumps forwards off the bench, hitting his head on the stone floor.

The Innkeeper looks at Elke "I don't ask any questions when anything strange happens these days. Best not to know. And besides, customers is customers. There int much passing trade since the mists came. I start probing too deeply and maybe this instant trade might stop."

"If you ask me though, Havenwest Meadow is where you want to start. Maybe they's gone dug a stream since I was last there. God knows. But I don't like the look of Myrneth over there. Whatever's after him then I'd rather you took it to the meadow with you than to my public house."

Xanxus' face sours, although he gets information it seems the old man is feeble or finally given in to the alcohol he had been drinking through the afternoon and into the evening. "Well the lunatic suggests we get to the cocoon or the end of the world is coming and we should be quick... this Havenwest Meadows is the likely place to start. If we end up getting your business back to a booming state we expect a 10% cut or 2% per survivor from this little jaunt..." he states tossing a wolfish look at the barkeep. Making sure he still has the papers from the old man he adjusts his pack and checks his mace and shield on his back. "Well I'm off to save the world I guess... would have preferred a good old fashioned bar fight..." Xanxus laments shaking his head in disappointment. "Maybe there'll be treasure..." he offers up trying to cheer himself up from these poor conditions.
