AAARGH! all the surrounding dwarven warriors mouth silently as they too charge forward, keeping pace with Kraagor!

If they come within range of gnolls, you better believe they will attack!

Kraagor and the dwarf army charge 30 yards forward, leaving the gnolls only 10 yards away. Kraagor sees the panic and fear in their bestial eyes, but also a resolute cunning. They hold their halberds up to block your charge.

Seeing the looks in the gnolls' eyes, Darlene launches another arrow in their direction.

Ezra fires an arrow which just glances off the stiff leather armor of a gnoll. Morgan fires, and her arrow sticks another wounded gnoll, knocking it off its feet. It scrabbles to get up.

Farem, still intimidated for participating in his first full scale battle in the wilderness, keeps disciplined and let's lose another arrow as some of his companions do.

The gnolls move 20 yards backward, taunting Kraagor and Delfarious's dwarves, goading them to just try and close into melee with squealing barks and growls. The dwarves are 30 yards from the gnolls, which means they can indeed close the distance.

Darlene and Petronius miss their ranged attacks, the projectiles hurling dangerously close to Kraagor. Morgan fires, to the same result.

Seeing the gnolls starting to flee, Farem hesitates for a while, undecided if he should pursue the enemy like some of his companions or let them escape.

Delfarious's eyes are wide as he stands and gestures grandly, sweeping his hands to move the illusionary dwarves forward, chopping the air to have them slice at the retreating gnolls with their weapons. He has them hold position near Kraagor... where they will attack if their foes come closer!

There are nine gnolls left, all retreating (unless you engage them). Lacking a rule from OSE or BECMI (that I know of), it will take a round to collect 50% of the arrows you fired (rounding down) after combat ends. E.g. if you fired one arrow, you can't retrieve any. If you fired 2, you get 1.

Kraagor yells and jumps and gnashes his teeth at the cowardly gnolls! Deep inside he burns with the fight, but he also finally recognizes that he might be outmatched here.

Sorry, I meant turn, not round—the one that takes ten minutes. And yeah, I'll just assume ranged attackers will want their ammo back unless they specify otherwise.

It seems like most of the party is in agreement, but anyone undecided can step in. If everyone hangs back and lets the gnolls retreat . . .
The cowardly gnolls hiss and bark, backing away until they are out of sight beyond the tree line of the clearing. For now, the party is alone again. The hatred in their eyes is as clear as a promise.

For scaring away the gnolls (but not permanently getting rid of them), the party gets 100 xp! Split among 8 party members, that's 12 xp each (before prime requisite bonuses/penalties).

So how do we handle fractional XP from prime requisites? I've always rounded down, but then again I've played games where I lagged behind in XP because others used a different methods.

For that, I would say round down. I already rounded down the split xp from 12.5 to just 12.
