Quick post so I don’t hold things up.
Panting slightly, she hugs Zin once they come to a stop before happily leading the party through a path less traveled while snickering at the look on Elowin’s face at being called Auntie. As they walk, she examines her newest treasure on her finger.

As Elysia admires her ring - the volcanic glass is cleverly shaped to appear like a delicate spider is resting on her finger - the rest of the group considers which path to follow. For a moment, Morik and Eozindra exchange looks; the other's expression confirms what they each thought they saw back in the melee as they left: one of the dead citizens had jerked and lifted up as if on invisible strings, then walked over to the other bearers, preparing to heft the palanquin. The drow had replaced their fallen undead servant with the corpse of a Grayhaven citizen!

Which route do you want to take: straight through High Street in the open, or the detour through the Market Square?

"I tire of running back and forth. Let's just get there. The direct approach suits me fine," Adran says as others debate how to get from point "A" to point "B."

forkbeard says:
"Auntie is a term of endearment for an elder relative or a friend of the family" he says, trying to ignore the rude comments because one of these people might be a distant relative who can give me a name
FYI Teksts in italic us usually thoughts or emphasis. Normal test is descriptive and bold is speech
Use the OOC tag for everything out of character

So in this case, Elowin have yet to comment on the "Auntie" out loud.

She looks at Adran, appraising him and his willingness to change his mind. She didn’t think he was one to budge, but she was still going to try. "I don’t think it’s wise to risk the safety of your dwarvish friend and I have no desire to risk seeing a noble unless necessary. We should go the route around the Main Street."

"I hate cities." Morik grumbled. "You lot just pick a path, I'll follow."

As the clouds gather, the early night air starts to feel humid.
As the party debates which way to go to seek Tykus' tower, first Elowin and then the others overhear people in nearby streets. Straining only a little, they can make out the voices.
From around the corner in the main street uphill, you hear a voice under considerable strain: "Easy...easy...easy...we're almost there....gently! Gently! When we get to the corner, let's take a break for a minute...my hands are cramping..."
From the other direction, you hear a jolly deep voice with an unfamiliar accent speaking entirely too loudly: "Well, it looks like I've done it again, Muffin! This can't be the Market Square! I wonder where I took a wrong turn?"
May 1, 2024 2:26 pm
Adran looks about, and runs his fingers through his hair. Glancing back to Elysia, he shakes his head. "The longer we spend meandering through these streets, the greater the chance of getting into a situation we can't talk our way out of or run away from. Give me a moment..."

The elf falls silent and narrows his eyes, his gaze flitting from building to building as he seems to be contemplating.

MaJunior says:
There was a point where Findal was able to point to Tykus' tower. Can Adran sort of triangulate their position relative to the tower, based on where they were when it was pointed out and the streets they've taken since then?
OOC:
Yes, Adran and Elowin both know the direction of the Tower, and could easily retrace their steps to the previous route through the High Street district. You both know where the Tower is; the challenge is picking the correct streets. But they're confident that they can lead the group there with few wrong turns.
Similarly, Ishi knows the topography of the city. He could lead the party to the ridgeline as well.
Having spent a month in Grayhaven, Elysia and Eozindra are more familiar with the actual streets: where there are dead-ends, where the traffic may be, etc.

The choice in front of the party now is which of the two directions that WILL lead to the Tower they will take.

OOC:
Can we just swaddle the gnome like a baby and let the dwarf carry the "large sleeping baby" and mad dash most direct route?
May 4, 2024 6:04 am
OOC:
If someone has a Disguise Kit and proficiency, they can describe how they make Findal look like something other than a wizened gnome.
With a Disguise Kit but no proficiency, someone could make an INT ability check to disguise him.
Without either, someone could make an INT check with DISADV.
If you want to pick him up and run with him, it's just going to require a STR of 15 or higher, or a STR ability check from a PC with lower than 15 STR.
Regardless of how/whether the party decides to conceal Findal, they decide to go with Adran's plan to continue through the High Street district to get to Tykus' Tower, toward the voices uphill. After the party proceeds for half a block, they see the owners of the voices: an older man in initiate's robes and two teenaged or elven people - a boy and a girl, both in late adolescence - struggling to carry a roughly-carved wooden statue that is maybe 12 feet long. They're heading towards the temple of Bealdor, god of the sun, visible at the end of the street.
May 5, 2024 7:49 am
Elowin breaks off from their group to ask the statue carriers.
Excuse me, but we got turned around. The direct way to that tower over there?

Initiate
The two younger initiates are huffing and puffing from the weight of what is really a grotesque wooden statue, possibly hewn from a log by someone with an axe, of some kind of vengeful sea creature. The older initiate does a double-take and then beams. "Oh! Of course, miss. Those residences are on Cliffview Lane; you can connect with the lane from Cloudwalk; just take a left when you get to Jewelmarket." Seeing he's not making himself clear, the old man chuckles. "Sorry, miss, let me show you." He takes his hands off of the statue and steps to one side, pointing to the left fork heading north past the temple of Bealdor. "Jewelmarket is just there...a block to the left of that third crossing..." Elowin sees where he's pointing.
May 5, 2024 10:43 pm
But the older initiate's stepping away from the others has left the two younger, slighter initiates carrying all of the weight. They stagger a bit, grunting, and start to set the huge statue down...but it slips from the boy's fingers as he tries to shift the weight, and falls two and a half feet to the ground. There is a loud "CRACK!" of snapping wood and then a hiss of compressed gas escaping through a narrow aperture. Visible vapor erupts from a long crack in the hideous statue, and this most condenses into mostly hazy blobs sporting distinctly imp-like features: misty limbs ending in claws, fluttering wings, and long snouts with scraggly teeth. The initiates gasp in horror. The mephits fly up into the air, cackling, but then stop and swivel, orienting on the party.

The four mephits are currently 25' up in the air (indicated by the green "up" arrow on the map), and are clearly looking to make mischief.

Everyone, please roll initiative and declare your actions (with the normal caveat of being able to react to others if your PC comes late in the initiative).

Initiative first to determine how quickly Zin reacts, then details to follow.
Eyes wide, Eozindra watches the mephits launch into the air. She lets out a hollow laugh and nudges her sister "Today may be the most interesting day in this city we’ve had in a while, eh!?" She sounds excited rather than afraid, clearly reveling in the constant chaos. She points a finger up at one of the impish creatures and calls to it, "Hey, ugly! We can still see your messed up face from down here!"
OOC:
The closest target she can pick is probably the one in the same row as Elowin. Vicious Mockery. Because why not? :D Rolling damage in case of failed save.

This was turning out to be the most ridiculous night. First a run in with a racist mob attacking undead controlling dros, and now devil looking creatures! Morik really hated cities.
OOC:
Morik will consider either covering the area with Faerie Fire, or Entangle. Or maybe just run up there and hit it, depending on what's going on when it's his turn.
