Stinger opens the door just as Alandra begins tapping and you stare at each other a mooment. Vague recolections go through your minds but another headach distracts you from any solid details.
OOC:
As you gather and meet for the first time can each player post a short description of their character. Include their role and a few details that the others could have learned as you met before launching the ship and might recall through the memmory loss from interactions on the ship.
With life support moving to reclaim the ship, lights coming back on, and a trio of survivors now on the bridge you feel a sence of hope and control over what was chaos and the unknown when you awoke.

Moving to your respective terminals on the bridge you find that the majority of ships systems are still locked out but you have sub-light thrusters, shields, and life supports. From what you can tell something in engineering is working on resoting ships systems but all attempts to reach engineering and all sensors to it have been cut. The emergency allert system may still be connected in there but you have no way of knowing.

Adonis works on getting external and internal sensors back online Roll a 2 tests, add aproach details if you have any ideas and aplicable traits/background

Stinger has been able to reconstuct the ships flight path within this system and found records of the ship stationing itself over a habitable plannet for a couple of days before heading to orbit this gass giant. You can roll to help with resotoring sensors ro continue to dig into the logs. Let me know.

Alandra checks over the condition of the others. Though Adonis is an inorganic her instruments have his vitals on file and she is able to determin that he is working within normal parameters. Scans of Stinger rveal he is also healthy but that he suffered recent trama indicative of oxogen deprivation. Apparently the bridge O2 levels dipped to low whne life-support was reduced but there are no signs of permanant damage. There are howerver signs of both his and her own body fighting the same infection. Odd. Few infections can cross alien physiology. She say signs of this in medbay but as it was not a major concern at the tme had moved on to more pressing matters. Roll test to diagnose the infection and/or recover previous logs on it. Same as with Addonis roll and add details

Adonis enters the now-opened door to the Bridge, just as the light blare on and flood the room. He feels his lens adjust to the new brightness, shifting automatically to maximize his visibility. He notices two other crew members standing inside the Bridge. He acknowledges the both of them with a nod.

"I assume you’re here because of the announcement?"

After he finishes speaking, a wave of intangible familiarity flashes through him. Then a hazy, glitching static disrupts his memory database before he can identify who exactly they are. He tries pushing past the static to conduct a scan of the individuals in front of him.

The other two are able to see Adonis, a robot with a green, T-shaped visor dressed in uniform. He wears his badge on his breast to show his membership to the ship. "I am ADS-4, common name ‘ADONIS’, and I was the communication officer before the ship went dark. The ship sustained significant damage, as I’m sure most of you are aware. We should best get to work as soon as possible. Most of the sensors are down. What is the status on your side?

He moves to the console, and while he checks on the sensors, notices activity with the ship system. Someone else is out there, an engineer perhaps? He decides to fix the sensors in engineering first, trying to isolate where the problem is, and whether the problem is shared by other rooms.

As the door to the Bridge opens, Stinger sees a short in stature stout woman holding a shock stick. The lady stands momentarily startled in her. Suddenly what remains of her memory kicks back in. She knows him. She KNOWS she knows him, but not how.

"This blasted headache", she thinks lowering her weapon and brushing her hair out of her eyes.

"Hi, I’m the medical officer. Well, at least that seems to be the only thing that’s clear in my memory. Let me take a look at you.", she says.

She pats her sensible flight jacket and then opens one of the many pockets on her cargo pants. She takes out the portable medical scanner starts to scan Stinger. It shows signs of infection, an infection matching her own.

At that moment, a robot enters the bridge announcing his presence.

The 5’2" lady turns, holding her device in front of her flight jacket.

"That would be right, I’m Alandra. When I unlocked the medbay doors, the Quarintine procedure read ‘Mutiny’. I suppose that explains why the ship is so empty. We seem to have some sort of infection. I don’t know about both of you, but I’m experiencing some memory loss. Let me see if I can route out the cause.", she says.

She looks at her scanner, trying to diagnose the disease or at the very least try to recover any logs pertaining to it.

Adonis scans the others and for a biefest instance his visor flickers into an unknown mode. I converts the entire roome into wireframs figures but highlights points or light, that Adonis realizes are floating in the air and clustered in the bodies of the others. Before he can react to look at himself the visor reverts to passive mode and his sight returns to normal.
Checking internal sensors he finds they are still locked out but he figures that once they get the entire crew they might be able to do some adjustments to the ship roster to get around the lockout. As he tries varies systems his access does give him access to he notices that all of engineering is entirely offline. It is not locked out like most of the rest but just unresponsive. Battle damage perhaps? The thsters worked and power is getting to the rest of the ship so at least the reactor is working.

After investigating he concludes that both the officers either took turns locking down systems or ech was trying to lock out the other. Firts officer and captains at odds, a mutiny, and you are all here on the abandoned ship. If you can get to the main processor and reset it to factory default from the hardcoded backup you might be able to designate a new captain and reset all the system lockouts. That will take some time but without a system analyst you lack the skill to circumvent the ships security measures.

Alondra After scanning the others and treating minor ailments, the others being more or less health given their situation, Alondra tries to scann deeper. The med bay scanners can do better but are also slower. A quick scan reveals that all on teh bridge are suffering the same infection, even the Autoborg coms officer AAdonis. Narowing it by comparison you isolate a crystalin life form that binds to nerves and circuits alike. As you scan you find signs os a treatment applied within the last week. Syncing your PDA with a general purpose terminal on the bridge you check with the medbay logs and find teh formula for the treament and are able to access the logs.
Though the source of the infection is never identified there is an exhaustive study of the infection before the treatment was developed. The treatment limits the growth of the infectioon but also has negative effect on those being treates as the treatmetn is very painful, even to teh Autoborg. The treatment was a stop gap to give extra time for additional analasys. only it looks like whatever that was got wiped form the system along with most of the recorded data on the infection.

Fortunatlely Alondra had a habit of adding tidbits of her daily rutine to her own diary. She should be able to write a simpe search to help retrieve data from that, once she gets it straightened out. It too has had its key works and date index stripped from the system. A recoery program might help but tough no novice to basic programs Alandra is no hacker or system admin.
OOC:
You only need to check off a use of the med kit for using up something like the wrap, plastic, or fabricate a drug

Stinger is surprised to see the woman jumping in as he opens the door, but the surprise is doubled as he thinks he recognizes her.

After listening to her introduction, he... "I'm Stinger White blade this ship's pilot. My memory is also affected, and still a bit dizzy from the thin air, and I haven't been able to find some find the time to go to my quarters and bring my music PZ... you know I love to hear music when I'm piloting!"

As Adonis arrives... " Welcome Adonis... Comms?... I guess you managed to send that meeting message, great idea! I woke up here, but I'm glad you made the announcement. Meanwhile, I managed to pilot the ship out of danger, and recover some navigation logs. Please check them." ... "And, if you are about to fix the sensors, I may be able to help."

"Oh, a med check, yeah sure, makes sense. Please make protocol checks on everyone... And what were you talking about mutiny? According to one log, some officers run away from the original captain." somehow Stinger trusts Alondra, he can't remember why, but it seems like he trusts her for a long time now.

Support Adonis with sensors - (2D6)

May 24, 2024 1:59 pm
Working together you gain access to
1. Basic Propulsion
2. Short range sensors & Camouflage holograms
3. Limited internal sensors (cameras, motion sensors, and intercom)
4. Basic navigation logs
5. Shield controls & Cloaking
6. Short Range Communications
7. Life Support
8. Medical bay: Sensors, treatment pot, & Records (There are signs of tampering but this is in better shape than other logs)
9. Personal crew and public ships logs but all of the dates are scrambled and some entries seem to be corrupted.
As much as you try you find that there are some systems the three of you can not access
1. Engineering
2. Astrogation and FTL logs
3. Weapons
4. Long Range Communications
5. First officers & Captains rooms and logs
6. Full internal sensors

Assessing the ships status, as best you can you learn
1. The ships shuttle is missing
2. One of the cargo holds external doors was forcibly breached and is now sealed/welded shut
3. Signs of heavy battle are centered around the cargo hold but there are signs of small weapons use throughout the ship
4. You have plenty of food, water, and other basic supplies, but limited fuel at the moment (2/10). You will need to go to engineering and get it back online for more
5. The ship has some minor damage, mostly on propulsion, that was more severe but was repaired at some point

They see a very young lady with obvious cybernetics. She is dressed according to her age except that she has a toolbelt with all types tools and scanners hanging off it. She also has a weapon holstered at her side.

Once she is noticed she waves and saysHi, I am Sam. Are any of you responsible for breaking my ship?

She scans Sam.

"The virus is odd. It's infected us across species. It's even infected Adonis...it's crystalline in structure, almost like an organic computer virus. Looks like I was treating us for it. I'll have to access my notes.", she says trailing off and looking at her personal medical device.

Sam enters the bridge and feels a sense of relief. Even though she can't recall the last six weeks her previous memories are still six weeks old and older. Vague recollections of crew briefings and social minglers where they all met, trained, and got to know each other.

The others have similar experiences. It's like the longer you are up and focusing on event the more you can recall. As Alandra runs her scans on Sam she finds similar results to the others. With all the cybernetic implants in the engineer it may be that analyzing her is the key to finding out more about the crystalin infections. Checking her logs on Sam, now that she can trigger of of her current scans she finds promising notes in her records. However additional research and testing will be needed before she is willing to enact another treatment. For this she will need to get the medbay back to full functionality, try to find any early samples to see if the infection has any mutations before or after the first treatment and then revise her notes proposed treatment plan based on those findings. The notes look promising and the current infection is not too bad so there must be something missing in the logs she has uncovered to cause her to try the stop-gap treatment instead of waiting for a complete cure.

Ok, so we all got this virus. It may, or may not, be related to whatever happened to the captain and the first officer.
I have a plan...
Adonis, you mention there are 6 people on the ship, please can you check where are the other 2?
Sam, there are still several systems offline, to start Alandea will need the medbay in full functionality soon, and we need the astrogation system if we are to leave this place. Can you please check those?
And Alandra, do you think you can continue the virus research soon? Please help Sam.
I'll help Adonis, then we'll try to open the cargo bay and have access to fuel and whatever else in there.
Better stay in pairs as the other 2 passengers have not come... and they may not be friendly. Keep in touch with the comms.

OOC:
a little system and PC knowledge dissemination
As Alondra scan Sam and explains a bit about the crystalin virus Sam takes a look at the med PDA and compares the virus to her own systems diagnostics. While the crystalline virus (CV) has been causing some of the system glitches on the ship they are not related to the log file corruption and software virus (SV) which from what the two can determine was inserted into the system before the CV. While the CV is a concern the SV may actually be a larger threat at this time and is impeding work to resolving the CV infection.

Sam has cleared engineering and all of her tools of the SV so needs to be careful when connect any of her diagnostics tools to the ships systems or risking spreading the SV further.

Stinger, as a pilot, may have not been paying attention in the training sessions before the crew launched and so missed the fact that the ships fuel is generated by the Reactor. The cargo hold could have some spare fuel but with the reactor online there is no reason for you to be out of fuel. Unless there is another problems preventing the reactor from filling the fuel tanks.

OOC:
The Tiny Frontiers does not have rules on repairing systems or damage to a ship causing them to go offline. This is was added by me but will follow their basic rules. As a simple rule I am saying that anytime your ship takes damage more than 1/2 its total structure then 1 or more systems may be affected. So try not to get too beat up.
Repairing and Refueling Starships says:

Each system or point of Structure damage your Starship takes one hour of repair. No Test required, just the downtime and access to appropriate resources and facilities. Any other situation will be adjudicated by the GM.

Fuel is recovered at one point an hour, just like Structure. However, most Starships have renewable energy sources (nuclear, electromagnetic, or other types), and do not require facilities to recover Fuel, just down time.

Seems Stinger missed more than one lesson... Maybe prioritize the software virus, then the other virus... I'm not sure, Sam, you are the expert, what do you think? Between Astrogation and Medlab, while there are no imminent threats in this sector, I'd say Medlab.

There maybe two viruses but the source might be the same. I know I had to pull all the junctions that connected each area of the ship to keep it from spreading, also there are triggers that will release the virus to do more harm so I need to isolate each section we work on until it is clear and not connect them back together until we are sure we are clear of the virus. I locked out engineering so to keep it from being reinfected. any medical information you need you might want to put on a datapad even if infected as i may need to wipe all the data in the medlab to clear it of the virus and then have you manually enter it back in before erasing or if needed destroying the pad.. Fortunately I know how to get to the firmware which cannot be infected and reset each zone but any memory or software might be lost when I do so.

We also have the issue of who caused the mutiny or was a part of it. My last entry have me sealing engineering and pulling the plug to keep the mutineers from taking over the ship. We also have the captain fleeing the ship and leaving it to its doom.

Sam goes to work first disconnecting the medlab from the other systems so that it will run independent from the rest of the ship. Once the medbay is disconnected from the ship and only then she begins to work on restoring it back to its defaults and erasing the virus from the system.

The others are able to quickly pick up the minor task of isolating systems and helping Sam ash she preps to reinitialize the medbay. Alandra backs up all log to simple formats that can be cleaned and transferred to the reinitialized system. By the end of the hour engineering and the medical bay are both deemed sanitized and Alondra has a basis for further testing with a single physically isolated terminal in the room left with the original medical logs.

While backing up and cleaning what she can Alondra finds another interesting record.
Medical Log says:
Summary: Crew members are reporting strange visions and disorientation. This may be a side effect of exposure to the artifact. I've initiated quarantine protocols for those most affected. Further medical tests are necessary to determine the cause.
While doing this it is decided to backup all logs to a stand alone system and isolate it from the rest of the ship. This will let you try and recover data on it without re-infecting active systems. However without the full processing power of the ship this would be slowed down. The bigger the system used for this purpose the quicker and more accurate the data recovery of the existing logs will go. The two least critical system is the Rec. Room its media library has the capacity to hold the entire ships backup if needed so Stinger and Adonis work on that.

Stinger finds another record that may be relevant as it indicates astral navigation was lost shortly after the attack. Perhaps the virus was injected into the ship systems by the attackers?
Navigation Logs says:
Summary: In the aftermath of the ambush, our navigational systems are severely compromised. We attempted to set course for the nearest space station, but instead found ourselves drifting towards uncharted space. Manual navigation will be required until systems are restored.
As they work Adonis notes that the ship is detecting in system coms chatter but can not pinpoint the location or content with the current stat of the ship systems

Sam theorizes she may be able to clear the trojan once the EIW AI finishes a full analysis of the SV. But for now this is the best solution without the risk of data loss and further system corruption.

With all key data of navigation, communications, astrogation, and medical logs backup up you can now move to the other systems. The other quickly learn how to help with the minor, though exhaustive task of disconnecting all system interfaces and each additional heler can cut the time for Sam to repair another system by 25%. You move on the Life support as the next most key system but then need to pick a priority.

Chronometer(Date&Time): 02:45 @ 2236-10-03

ship status now shows 2 check box's. 1/2 = you have access but it is infected, 2/2 = you have access and it is clean. Clean systems and infected systems are isolated, reducing ship performance and efficiency.

"Sam, look at this. We may have a source of the infection. Bet you It's in Cargo. I'm going to hail Stinger. He needs to know.", she says showing Sam the log.

She hails Stinger over the coms, "Stinger, I've managed to recover some of the medical logs pertaining to the disease. It's slow going. If possible, I will need a bigger system to help compile all the data. When Adonis is done with his sweep, could we ask him to transfer the data to the rec room's media library? I think the system has a little more juice than this console. However, we may have a more pressing issue first. What little data I've recovered points to some sort of artifact we must have picked up during the journey. According to the logs, I must of thought it was source or partial source of the infection. This log says the crew members that came in contact with it starting seeing things. I think we may want to keep cargo bay locked down and scan it for whatever this artifact is, just to be safe. I'll continue to dive into this logs until we get a moment to transfer the data to the rec room. Let me know if you find anyone else on board. They will have to be scanned for the infection."

Alandra turns to Sam and says, "Hopefully, the artifact is still on board. Maybe we can synthesis a cure from it, or blast it into space."

Adonis is still unable to access internal scanners other than the cammerals, motion sensors, and audio feeds in all the public areas. Maybe once Same initializes those and integrates them the ship system you can do that. Or you can try to use life-support monitors to isolate life forms.

Alandra begins checking records for mention of the artifact and finds something pertinent
Captains Log says:
Alien Artifact
Summary: We've recovered an artifact from ******. It's a large, crystalline structure emitting a low-frequency hum. Dr. Vespa believes it may be some sort of communication device. We've stored it in the cargo bay for further analysis.
May 27, 2024 4:05 am
We need to prioritize, there is still a lot to fix. As much as I want to investigate this artifact, survival is key.

Since this is going to take time, getting our galley up so we have food, quarters to have a safe place to rest is going to be vital. If we cannot eat and sleep we will wear ourselves out. The other area that is going to be critical is the bridge. Doesn't do us good to have things functional if we cannot use it. After that we need to be able to move and have our defenses up so we can protect ourselves.

Unless something else changes to move something to a priority that is where I will focus. An extra hand especially in areas that you have you have expertise will help me get things up. Just remember do not connect anything until it is known to be clear. I am still keeping things isolated which mean it won't interface as well but will keep the chance of reinfection to a minimum.

Sam and Alandra get to work on the galley, a minor system but one with some spare memory and processing power that Alandra could start to use once it is tied into the medbay.

Stinger joins back up with Adonis in the bridge where he finds the autoborg still working on sensors but the increased in system comms chatter is increasing in frequency. Stinger thinks back to their initial position and predicament. The mutineers that fled were heading to a habitable planet and what little he sees in the logs that was likely further in system. So why would they be near the gas giant and its rings? He best guess it that they may have been trying to use the rings to hide. And if there is in system chatter it means either the mutineers are talking with someone else or a couple of new variable need to be added to the mix. But without external sensors or the full comms system up and working to descramble the messages you have no idea who or what they are and what they might intend.

Adonis presses a few buttons on the monitor to access the sensors, but as he expected, there wasn’t much luck. Cameras, audio feed, motion sensors online but only in some places. Maybe if he could isolate life-support monitors he could see who else was on board? Increased feedback from the comms gets his attention, but there isn’t much he can do to analyze the noise without working on the sensors… He first tries isolating monitors before he continues working on the internal sensors.

OOC:
Life Support was cleaned of the virus work yes.
Items fixed and cleaned of the virus and isolated from infected systems. The bridge it the main ship network with engineering able to act as a secondary network hub and these two are currently disconnected from each other. You will need to do the bridge last or lose access to any not cleaned system. Anything fully fixed and cleaned of the virus is on the engineering network. Everything else is on the bridge network. Full internal scanners rely on security & Life support sensors, which are currently on separate networks.
Ex : Engineering <yes> Life Support >NO< Bridge <yes> Armory(internal security)

Until you get the bridge and armory fixed and cleaned internal sensor are not integrated enough for a ship wide scan. So until all systems are fixed you can not perform internal scans so will have to wait or search manually. If you want to FF through minutia just list order of efforts and I will inform you of changes to the status and pause for player changes/updates if the situation merits it.
Adonis tries a bit more before realizing that with the ship in its current state internal scans are impossible. Patching basic alerts from the comms station into the PA system, as both are still tied to the bridge, simple tones let you know that whomever is out there is talking back and forth frequently.

Moving to assist Sam you are able to get the galley done and move on to the individual rooms. All of this is finished up in under 1 hour except for access to the officers quarters is still locked out and would take time to physically bypass.

He considers probable that mutineers are on that planet ring, his current team and himself were left behind so highly probable they were not part of the mutiny, and considers that the former captain should be somewhere within the ship (if still alive).

Current information has it that 2 alive crew members are still onboard but unaccounted for. They should be found, and either incorporated to the team or at least ensure they won't harm the ship.

We should all be healed from C Virus, but the S Virus needs to be dealt with before. Sam and Alandra are already focused on this.

They can't follow the mutineers nor understand their communications without fixing the ship. He can't really pilot the ship properly before the two networks are back together. Nor they can risk a space battle before the ship is fully functional.

Stinger goes to help the rest to fix the systems.. "Sam, how can I help? Which is the next system we should fix?"

As you finish up with patching in the crew quarters to the cleaned engineering systems you hear an incoming hail alert followed by
Unknown vessel do you require assistance
The voice is unfamiliar to all of you and as you are all helping Sam with repairs no additional information can is passed with the audio that Adonis patched into the PA system.

Rushing to the bridge Adonis checks the comms logs and finds that the ships communication identifier can not be found but that may be simply due to their scrambled nature. The communication is not a general broadcast but other than that little can be determined with the currently limited external sensors. The ship is in system but depending on their ship you may have minutes or hours before they would be within detection range.

Slipping into his station Stinger checks what external sensors he hsa but can not find any nearby ships on visuals. This gives little comfort as you drift in the loose orbit about the gas giant's rings which could hide a ship in or beyond them. Stinger checks his system again and though still infected with the SV he is glad that he currently has full control of the thrusters and stealth systems.

Alandra and Sam can acompany the others to the bridge or go to other ship statios Let me know

Stinger now worries, he is not comfortable facing a strange ship without full systems online.
Adonis, are able to hail that ship? I'd prefer to talk with them, ask them who they are, before allowing them to approach more. Stinger is also worried that these could be the mutineers that run away leaving the ship in this bad state.

In any case, Sting gets ready to turn on stealth mode and fly into the debris. He doesn't execute these yet, but without weapons, it seems to be the only defensive action he can do quick enough. He really hopes they had mid-range navigation sensors soon, even without weapons, he could try to outrun enemies if they had nav-sensors.

Another ship? Could they be the mutineers or… something else? Neither option nor the lack of functioning weapons system eases his concern. He turns to Stinger. "I can try communicating with them, but without the sensors and comms fixed, we won’t be able to identify them. Keep your hands ready on the stealth controls in case something happens. And let’s hope that Sam and Alandra work on the weapons.

He attempts to let the other ship’s connection through.

The reply comes back after only a moment. This is the salvage vessel Iron Vole. We noticed your transponder a while ago but it seems to be having trouble so we only just located you. Do you require assistance?
May 29, 2024 5:56 am
Stinger, speaking to Adonis (not to the comm device) Since we can't identify them, we can't really trust them to board the ship. But they could still help us. We could tell them that they can't dock nor board us because of a dangerous virus we have onboard, we are already working to synthesise a cure but may take some time. But they can help finding and taking prisoners those mutineers that release the virus and left our ship in this state. What do you think?

Then, to the internal comm Sorry to hurry you Sam and Alandra, but it seems we have company in the vicinity. How long will it take to have the mid-range sensors online?
May 29, 2024 3:17 pm
Sam come into the bridge quickly.

I would not have the come aboard or ask their help. It is a salvage ship. If we're not alive they can claim the ship as salvage. If we were in a better position or really worse one I would chance it.

We not even sure where we are, we can repair our ship but it will take time. We also have unknown viruses onboard if they dock we could infect their ship and it will spread.
OOC:

Currently the sensors are simply locked out by either the first officer or captain. You can try and bypass the security lock.
This will be faster than cleaning the entire thing. Though none of you are master programmers with an engineer and at least one bridge crew you have a decent chance. Standard test for any/all who which to assist.
May 29, 2024 3:40 pm
Adonis watches as Sam enters the Bridge. "I would agree with Sam’s assessment. We are at a disadvantage as it is, and a salvage vessel may harbor intentions that disadvantage us further. I can inform them not to board the ship. That would perhaps caution them to keep a safe distance from us."

Through the external comms, he says, "At this time, we are unsure if we need your assistance. A virus has infected our ship, but we are currently synthesizing a cure. It should be handled. Should we need your help, however, I would not advise boarding for the risk of spreading the virus."
May 29, 2024 5:30 pm
Sam works quickly to get a bypass for the sensors, knowing it is not a real fix but at least temporarily getting some information.

Stinger runs a full scan on the approaching ship. What type is ship is it? Shields and weapons? Engine size and speed? If they become aggressive, Stinger wants to know what they may be against.

Since the other ship is still one hour away, Stinger starts the smaller thrusters to slowly move into de debris. With thrusters and sensors online, he is confident in piloting the ship should the need arises.
To his friends I still don't trust these guys. They say they want to attach something... it might as well be an explosive. And the cut the comms.

At this range without the full sensor suite you only get a rough idea of the ships power output and speed which allows a rough guess to its mass. The ship is well over double your mass. If it truly is a simple salvage ship then it likely has a small crew and large cargo space with variety of tools and scanners. But that is all guesswork for now.

Together Stinger and Adonis figure they can set up a simple ping announcement and tie it into the PA to help you keep track of the ship, or any other moving power source. This should only take about 5 minutes. The faster the ping the closer the ship, the louder the ping the more power it is outputting. That is the best you can do for now without continuously monitoring the scanner raw data and making continual calculations.

In the meantime Stinger is thrilled to find that though he can't map out the rings of the gas giant he can at least monitor a much larger area manually. This should let him maneuver through them should the need arise.
May 30, 2024 3:48 am
Well, I think the virus scared them off. I think we make our defenses a priority, get our cloaking up so we can hide and not be surprised again. It seems our scanner may take a longer time to fix but if we can get our thrusters up and our stealth engine we can disappear off radar and only appear when we chose.

If anyone has a better idea were I should spend my energy speak now or forever hold their peace.
May 30, 2024 10:51 am
Stinger is glad he can finally pilot the ship, and confident that he can maneuvre inside the rings... the bigger this other ship, the worst it will do inside the ring.
Sam I agree, the thrusters are halfway online so usable, next should be getting full functionality of the stealth engine.
Then he starts thrusters, on low impulse (not to be obvious to this other ship) to get inside the ring.
On the internal Comms for his friends to hear I'll get slowly inside the ring, so to get away from this ship. All suggestions are welcome for next steps
May 30, 2024 12:40 pm
"I have no objections. Defense is our best option, considering none of our weapons systems are online," says Adonis. "In the meantime, I will work on a ping-signal radar to detect the ship’s proximity to us."

The thrusters are fine but FTL is a problem without full system repairs. The stealth engines are given a quick check and seem fine as are shields and cloaking. But with all the sections locked out by the officers you are not certain and it will take a full system diagnostic to get there.

Fortunately the Engineering system has an initial revision to clean the EV from infected systems. You begin with a all portable devices and tag ones that are clean to help keep track of the work. Everyone's personal portable devices are now cleaned of the EV and have limited resistance. The EW/AV system should be able to remove the EV by the end of the day but that would still leave the officer security lock out you will need to bypass by resetting each system, though that will be a lot quicker once you fully restore the ships internal system network.

With about an hour before the ship arrives you head back into the ring system. With system integration and automation offline due to the security lockouts Stinger will have to pilot the entire time manually. Not used to such limited ship systems he has to focus the entire time and you have a couple close calls. Luckily most objects within the ring system are in stable orbits and once Stinger finds a good spot the shields should prevent any minor incidents. Taking a look at the cloaking system you find much of the same situation. Full system integration is offline due to all the system lock outs put in place by the captain and first officer. Sam and Alandra do what they can and though they get it online stable and you are confident you hid your presence before moving too deeply into the ring system, you're not sure how well it will work against full active sensors.
OOC:
Ship system status updated with better detail. The authorization command/control Lock outs⚠️ are preventing any form of automation and reduces efficiency🔻 of locked systems.
Currently all ☠️ systems are isolated from clean/reset systems✅. The only systems totally offline❌ are weapons.
Resetting the systems to archived default still takes 1 hour each and clears all locks and removes all electronic virus☠️.

To be clear : Do you wish to take all defensive systems offline to clear/reset them (will take at least 1/2 hour with help) or are you just trying to get them up and running. (I assumed the latter)
Jun 1, 2024 3:17 am
OOC:
I assume that Sam cleared the cloaking system of the virus with the rolls I made.

If that is working taking time to clear each one fully of the virus would be better with maybe the exception of the force shields by just getting them working then coming back to them once the rest of the items are up.

Sam is of the opinion of let's get everything back to where it should be then they can tackle the things they are locked out of and not doing just a partial job as that would mean a chance of reinfections and having to redo work.

She is not concerned about being locked out as she feels she has a card up her sleeve for that.
Jun 1, 2024 2:46 pm
As Stinger moves the ship into the rings Alanadra and Sam get to work fully cleaning the defensive systems and finish up after 45 minutes, just before the salvage ship arrives. Now in the rings and cloaked you have a bit of safety. Unfortunately the scanners often lose contact with the salvage ship due to interference from the rings and so only get intermittent data.

Stinger asks everyone in the bridge to maintain radio silence, to avoid mean detected through the radio signal. Otherwise, he is completely focus on piloting.
Jun 3, 2024 5:20 pm
Sam is able to access the scanners but hits the same block of needing to control things manually. Until all systems are restored and integrated then there is limited functionality for system automation and integration. Ex Sensors are used by Navigation and Weapons but both Weapons and Navigations have their own dedicated sensors.

None of these systems have the full dedicated computation power to operate at 100% without the ship computer system (Bridge). Engineering has the backups, provides power, etc but it does not have the computation power to support all the systems.

The scanners are physically fine but have the virus and lockouts on some features. Sam is able to bypass the lockout and gain direct access to the scanners and Holo-projectors in a couple of minutes but to clean the virus you will either need to either wait for engineering to finalize the virus removal procedure or take them down entirely to purge the virus and remove all locks. If you take scanners offline now then Stinger would have a much harder time navigating as he would be reduced to driving by camera again until they came back up. (30 minutes with the help of Adoniz and Alandra)

Stinger focuses on driving and just stays in the pocket with minor updates to his position.
OOC:
Once you resolve the immediate problem of the salvage ship we can FF past the rest of the repairs and get the ship up and running but for now you need to decide on priorities and handle the situation with limited resources.
I am assuming you are trying to lay low so relying on passive sensor and your stealth system combined with the ring system to hide and wait. Alandra and Stinger are working on this. Sam is working on sensors but I need to know what you want to do. Full reset 45 minutes with Adonis help, or 30 with Alondra as well, during which you are essentially blind. Minor improvement to system performance and integration to stealth/navigation.

If you give we a plan of action and/or time frame to work with I will alert you if/when anything changes.
Jun 3, 2024 6:49 pm
"We don’t have much time until the salvage ship reaches us," says Adonis, watching as Sam works on the scanners. "Not enough time for a reset of the scanners. I think we should just lay low, work on the weapons in case we need to fight."

@Psybermagi if I understood correctly, we still need to maintain the sensors or we risk getting spotted? If that is the case, I think Sam and I should stay the course. Work on the sensors without a reset. If the sensors are good, Alandra can work on weapons.

Without sensors avoiding collisions in the ring system is much harder and you would also not know if you have been spotted.
Sam spends the next few minutes and gets basic access to the weapons. (updated on the ship) As the system is still locked down targeting is a bit off but you all feel better knowing that you have defense, mobility, and offense.
Jun 4, 2024 2:55 am
Sam looks at what still needs to be fixed on the ship.

At this point to finish fixing critical/basic systems, it looks like some things will need to be taken offline and fixed. If you want to wait we can though I don't suggest it but I can work on less crucial/interior systems.

I could try and get the holographic emitters up so we have a way to camouflage the ship but at some point I am going to have to take the thrusters offline to fix it and the stealth engines. The same is true for scanners. After that I can get going on the weapon systems. That will get all the major areas fixed except the bridge. At that point we have an operational ship just lack of coordination. Once the virus is out of the smaller systems we can integrate the ship again and work on getting rid of the lockouts.
Jun 4, 2024 5:09 pm
"That's a good idea, let's get the holographic emitters online. Hopefully that will obscure our signal enough that the salvage ship gives up. If you have both Adonis and I helping, it should go quicker.", Adonis says and puts her hands on her hips.

Jun 5, 2024 1:56 pm
As the Holo emitters are tied to the sensor system you will need to take the entire system offline to clear the virus and lockouts but Sam does manage to access the external Holo emitters. You remain allert and on the bridge a few minutes more .. .And while one of the scans sweeps directly over you your stealth and camouflage seting are stable and you feel confident they found nothing. After several tense minutes you begin to relax.

During the wait you look around for a location you can hide the ship while you work on restoring the rest of the major systems. Staying in the ring system while blind or imobile is not a good idea. While the ship can move in atmosphere it is not fast or maneuverable while doing so. The gas giant would crush the ship if it went too low but there are a couple moons that you can go to . Fortunately the shields and cloaking system are now fine so you can simply move out of the rings and orbit the gas giant.

Where do you want to park for repairing the engines and scanners and possibly the rest of the ship while you are at it?

The engines, scanners, and weapons are the last major system that need to be reset. Other than those you still need to reset the internal security(armory) and reset the primary computers on the bridge. All the jobs will take about 1/2 hour each with two people helping Sam. Adding a third would do little so 1 can remain on the bridge or in engineering to monitor things or finish checking out the rest of the ship

Krom is alive? The name sounds vaguely familiar...

Stinger finds two moons that would be safer place to hide for finishing mayor repairs. Once the salvage ship is gone, he pilots to the closest of this two moons and sets a orbiting course on that moon. A low-ish altitude orbit, so as to be confused with the moon itself if some new ship checked from afar.

Sam, the ship is hidden in this orbit now so I can help you, what's our repair status? Which systems do you plan on working next?

As Adonis and Alandra greet their new / old crewmate Sam starts preparing to finish clearing the major ship systems of the computer virus and security lock-outs as Stinger finishes positioning the ship into a stable orbit with a good safety margin while the engines will be offline.

Helping the large Tyranax to the medbay Alandra performs a preliminary scan reveals that they have suffered near fatal wounds as well as the same infection that afflicts the rest of the crew. Once in the medbay and into the treatment tank Krom quickly falls back to sleep and a deeper scan reveals multiple trauma, including dehydration and near starvation, that will require hours of treatment to fully recover.

Under Sam's directions several of you work to finish purging the computer virus from all systems while others scour the ship from prow to stern. Working for a bit over 2 hours you settle back now with a clean and factory default ship save a few problems. Gathering together with the now much recovered Krom in the recreation room you take stock.

Chronometer(Date&Time): 07:00 @ 2236-10-03

Only the recreation, which is completely isolated form the rest of the ship systems, still holds the virus room which is now acting as archive and investigation center for the last 6 weeks. Other than that you find you are unable to access the captains and officers quarters. Both the starboard cargo bay doors and air locks have been patched to cover forced entry breaches and will requires extensive metal work, mechanical repair, and electronic replacements before either will work. The shuttlebay is empty and shows signs of some tampering on the doors and egress, which you figure was used to access the area then leave the ship without the captains permission.

Though the ship has no real internal sensors save the cameras, microphones, and motion, and other basic sensors in the public areas and at key point, Alandra is now able to tie those in with the life support sensors and has been able to determine that the only other life sign is actually coming from the captains room. The life signs are odd and is is suspected that the captain is in a personal stasis chamber similar to the emergency capsules several of you were in.

Sam though feeling a bit worn out trying to fix so much so quick continues on as she sees the end in sight.

Double checking to make sure the recreation room is isolated from the rest of the ship she goes to tackle the last of the virus.

She takes her time preparing for the final area to get cleaned up. Then its breaking codes to get into the captains and officers quarters. The doors on the other hand will require a bit more work and she is not sure if she has parts on hand to fix those anyway.

She then heads to the captain's quarters. She begins her diagnostics to see if she can get them inside and be able to access records.

AS she works anyone nearby hears her say, If the captain is in there in any sort of stasis do not take him out until we have more info about what caused the mutiny, I just got most of this ship fixed and I don't want to have to do it again.

She then begins to work in earnest using the codes and protocols she has listed for the ship in her hard drive to gain access.

Stinger, a bit sorry he wasn't of much help in the repairs, walks with Sam to the captain's quarters. Probably he wasn't focused on repairs because his mind kept going back to the logs...

A good start, then the finding of that thing in cargo bay, then the pirate attack, then malfunctions, then the visions and mutiny, and finally collapse with mutineers escaping to nearby planet (while disabling everything they could).

We are VERY lucky to have survived. Seems to me, the cargo bay Thing made some allucinate, they started the mutiny following First Officer lead, and when they realized they couldn't get the ship they escaped in the shuttle and left us (captain's crew) to die in a disabled ship. And that ship we just met, was that same pirate ship we encounter before, eventually we could go hunt them if needed. Some new logs should be found at first officer's and captain's quarters, they could clarify the story.

Yes, as long as we don't know much about the mutiny itself, and our role in it (or against it), better to leave the captain as he is. Better yet, let's start with the first officer quarters.

But if Sam is already opening Captains quarters, there is a chance that the Captain is awake, and maybe even aggressive, so Stinger gets out his pistol (albeit, not aiming but the floor) just in case.

Alandra leaves Krom In the med bay to recover and makes her way to the bridge to see how the others are doing. As she does, she see Stinger, pistol at the ready.

She lights up her shock staff, electricity arcs and cracks at it end.

"What's going on?, she says.

Adonis heads to the captain’s quarters with Alandra, noticing everyone else wielding their weapons. Had something happened already? "Opening the captain’s quarters now? Are we sure that’s a good idea?"

OOC:
Viking1031 : I was working on the previous post when you added yours so did not see it till later
Now that all the systems have been cleared and reset Stinger sets a simple autopilot program. Adonis configures a stealth profile and enables multiple basic sensor alerts to sound ship wide. Let me know if you want to activate the holo emitters as well and if you have any specific profiles you want the scanners to alert you on. Alandra starts a full internal medical scan. Note that while the automated systems are fairly reliably, they are not infallible. Ex: any station not manned can be overcome by a standard NPC Test Krom explains to the other how to set a few basic weapons profiles and performs a basic targeting diagnostic to ensure the weapons system in fully integrated with ship sensors properly.

Sam is able to firewall but not clean the recreation rooms' entertainment system. Once the EWIS ai finished it's analysis of the virus you can scan the infected records. In the meantime with the firewall in place you it should be good enough to let Alandra shift through the jumble of logs manually or use a search algorithm to try and start sifting the records.

Heading to the captains quarters Sam is slightly surprised to find after factory security measures installed on both doors to the captain's suite. The only way in is physically breaching the doors. The tools in engineering will allow this. With Stingers help you fetch the tools and dig into the walls to force the doors open. Sam is confident she can get the doors open but is not fully aware as the captain's suites security measures are not on her own or the ship records so does not know how they system might react. It is obvious however that the rooms have their own life support and while they draw power from the ship they also have their own power reserves. The doors are not yet open as Alandra and Adonis halt the work before Sam finishes their attempts to force entry

As I mentioned, I'd rather open the First Officer quarters first.

Alandra, we should continue to make the ship fully operational. Now we have the 2 main quarters: captain's and first officer's closed, and the idea is to open them to reach their logs, any other items we me need, and eventually rescue the one person alive we haven't met yet: someone in the captain's quarters... the problem is that we don't know who is there, nor if he is friendly or aggresive... the pistol is just a safety measure, in case he attacks us, I really hope I don't need to use it.

Then he listens Adonis I think we should go fo the First Officer's Quarters first. But I was not leaving Sam alone opening this door.

Krom was most thankful that those that came for him were allies, he had left his fate when he let out the call for help. It seems that fate, for this time, was on his side.

"Thank the bright star that you're here." He said to them, and was taken to medical to get looked after, he lets them know about some of the basics of the weapon operations on the ship, but to get him if he is desperately needed.

"When I'm recovered, I would like to hear what you have all found so far about this ship and why we're here." He said to them, he then let the medical machines go to work on him.

After the scanners were repaired and the bridges computer systems brought back online one of the first things you did was instruct the computers to begin collecting basic solar system information using your passive sensors. I will try to always differentiate between passive (look/listen) and active (shine a light over there) sensors. Any time you scan something I will assume it is active, as they have much better detailed information, unless you state otherwise.
System information has been added to the Odyssey sheet under Ship Status & History

Adonis had set the scanners to detect any ships that come within range before following to the captain’s quarters. He watches as Sam struggles with the door. "Do you need a hand pushing it open?"
Jun 13, 2024 1:55 am
Thanks but no need. It would have been easier if they did not change the original coding, I hate having the ship damaged. Sam grabs the door and you see the cybernetics in her arms go to work as she easily pulls the door open leaving a slight mark where her hands grabbed the frame.

As the door opens she grabs her stunner from its holster just in case.

Room 1: Officer's Quarters As the door is forced open the lights flicker several times then stay on at a muted level but still bright enough to see everything. As an officer she enjoyed the use of the entire room, an oval area 600', for herself but left it open without any partitions. Elara Vraspe's quarters are meticulously organized, reflecting her disciplined and tactical mindset. The room is furnished with a standard-issue bed with a night stands on either side, a meditation mat, a desk with a holographic interface, a shower cubicle, closset, drawers, and a recliner next to a shelf filled with physical paper books.

"Looks like you all can handle this. I'm going to go back and check on Krom. Call me if you want back up when we go into captain's quarters.", she says and makes her way back to medbay. First Officer Elara's Quarters
Stinger looks over the shelves that houses tens or possibly hundreds of book. One of the upper shelves are are heavy tomes that look old but well preserved. There are a couple shelves of hardback books, ranging from textbooks, references, and some classics. The rest are smaller soft bound books and range from flirtatious and/or steamy romance novels to historical fiction, and current and historical science fiction. Not seeing anything of note he begins looking through the drawers.

The bedside drawers are simple and contain a variety of personal items, including a locket with a picture of a loved one, a small journal, some cosmetics, perfume, and pain killers.
Medicalbay
Alandra heads back to the medbay and checks on Krom. The computer and instruments are still analyzing the crystalin virus. However she does note that the environmental system has identified the CV is airborne. However will the ships logs still corrupted she only has hours worth of data so is unable to determine how long it will persist in air. By now Krom is doing much better and though still sore and tired Alandra deems him fit to move now if he feels the need.
OOC:
Note, some tasks like analyzing the computer virus and/or an infection may take hours or days. Ex : Sam can tno test to fully clean the virus from the ship till tomorrow. Similarly Alandra will need time to analyze and study the crystal virus.

While checking the books, Stinger draws the best preserved tome to see what it is about, and see if it has some clue on the first officer's personality.

Nice library! I'd love to come to read when we finish solving all this situation.

At the drawers, he puts in his bag both the locket and painkillers for more research later, and then picks up and reads the last pages of the journal... There may be more information on the mutiny, the thing in the cargo bay and the ship's state when we woke up.
Jun 14, 2024 1:03 pm
You suspect the tome is made of leather by the feel of it and you shudder at using animal skin in such a fashion in the current age. Opening it you see it is written in an unknown language and looks to be an original text or vry convincing recreation as it appears to be hand written and the paper is quite old.

Amanda can likely analyze the pain killers and Sams pulls out a sanner from one of her pockets and determines the locket to be simple jewelry with a picture of the same person in the table top picture frame. The journal contains notes and you start to read more on detail...

Krom, feeling much better then he did earlier, was now getting out of the machine that was aiding him.

"Thank you Alandra, I feel much better now." He said, thanking her, he then follows her to where the others are.

"Could you fill me in with what's going on so far?" He asked them.

First Officers Quarters
Searching the bookshelf reveals them to be a bunch of books. The only odd part is the wide variety of subjects. From modern electronics and programming to classic and even archaic works. You do find it interesting that the desk system is independent of the ship network but it does have a wireless interface witch is currently physically disconnected and has several encrypted partitions. However without a key accessing them is impossible. The desk access is restrictions/encryptions can be removed by electronic, biometric, or password keys.

Others search the room and find that when one of the closets is opened there is another door with a sophisticated lock that has been added behind the first. Sam is getting annoyed at all these aftermarket modifications to the ship and wonders just how much effort was put into this mission that was supposed to be a simple trial run of a new ship design with some basic exploration. The locked cabinet within the closet is anchored to the walls and built of high durability materials and the door and lock are very sophisticated.
Jun 16, 2024 8:52 am
So now we have a written mutiny confession. I tend to believe she didn't lie about the captain's behaviour, so it would probably be better to leave him locked in him room until we have discovered all we can, and have the ship fully operational... I find it hard to trust any of those two.

Together you work on the safe until your are able to open it. The contents inside are revealed to include a data chip, a small, high-powered laser pistol, and a fake identification card.

"You alright. Stinger", says Alandra giving him a quick look over.

"You think Adonis or Sam can take a look at that datapad?", she continues after she is satisfied that Stinger is ok.

She bends over and picks up the fake ID.

"This is good, really good.", she whispers.
Jun 19, 2024 5:26 pm
Still a bit light-headed, Stinger gives the fake ID to Alandra, and takes the pistol.
What a luck! Right?

Yes, Adonis or Sam should be able to crack the data chip is it has some code... but probably it doesn't. I am more concerned that it may have another virus.

Then continues to search the room.

The data chip is a standard design so Sam just gets a dataslate and ensures its wireless interface is disabled, and even blacklists it from the ship network before inserting the chip into it. Most of the chip is encrypted so cracking it without access to the ships network will be slow but possible. Sam starts the slate working on this while Adonis begins setting up a profile on Elara to hopefully speed up cracking the chips encrypted contents. Once the ships systems have finished updating the Anti-virus protocols to clean and block the EWI attack you will be able to finish the job.

You do find that the chip has half of a back door protocol that would allow Elara to send and receive private encrypted messages using the ships long range communications without leaving a trace. Chip content posted to player notes HERE

Inside, you find advanced infiltration gear, including a stealth suit, high-tech lockpicks, encrypted communication devices, and detailed schematics of the ship. There is also slots for other things which are now missing.

Adonis reports that the ships EW systems have finished updating and starting scanning all existing systems and firewalled all personal devices until they can be scanned and have their own firewalls and EW suites updated as well. He helps Alandra set the parameters for scanning and recovering data from the backup you stored in the recreation room systems. While doing this he recovers a record of a detected distress signal. Krom is now feeling much better and helps check the logs for the tactical system as he is the most familiar familiar with them and is able to recover additional information about the attack.

With all the ships systems now online and having had a good nights rest you gather in the galley to talk over breakfast. The ship has been fully explored save the captains quarters and all major systems are functioning within normal tolerances save the hyperdrive which is offline and thus prevents you from leaving the system via hyperspace. There are scrappers wandering the area and possibly the ship that attacked you, not to mention the other half of the crew that left with the shuttle and from what you can tell took it to the first planet, which is the only one with decent temperatures and atmosphere, though the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all show signs of likely having been life bearing at some point in the past. You are currently in orbit of the 7th planet, the only gas giant and through your cloaking technology is decent you likely only remain undiscovered due to your location, immobility, and low power inactivity.
OOC:
Just a heads up but I will requires someone on bridge any time you wish to use a ship system, such as cloaking.

Krom sleeps through the night, still feeling a little sore as his body moved, but the rest did him good and he no longer felt the aches and pains that he had suffered the day before. He follows the others for breakfast.

Jun 22, 2024 4:52 am
OOC:
Interesting suggestion let's see . . .
Though you all had troubled sleep most of the dreams and jumbled recollections are incoherent
Krom's Nightmare/Recollections of the Assault says:

Krom shudders as he recalls last night's dreams. Chaotic scene where the ship is under attack. Blurred figures move swiftly through the corridors, and alarms blare in the background. A strange glowing mass. And a frantic fight after being cut off from the captain and others before being shot and left for dead. Though he is uncertain he believes the dream was mixing memories of the assault when the artifact was lost and the mutiny.
Stingers night time recollections says:

Stinger have a vague impression of a mysterious, ancient ruin on an uninhabitable planet. The images he reals are of him working with others on the ship to make detailed scans of the planet, especially around the ruins. He does not think he went planet side but is confident that if the plant is in systems, as you all suspect this system is where it all happened, and that many scans were taken then perhaps recovering some of that data will be easier as there was so much of it.

"Not that I can recall, but I hardly remember my dreams on the best of days", Alandra says picking up her cup of COF-EEY. She swallows the synthetic brew and grimaces.

"Really wish we had the real thing.", she mutters.
Jun 22, 2024 6:28 pm
Stinger shares his dream with the rest.
I'd feel more comfortable if we could run some scans of the planets of this system, probably they will shed some light on what information we are currently missing. Of course, we need to be sure nobody else is around following us.
Jun 24, 2024 3:02 pm
"That's a good idea. I think we need to find that artifact and run more tests on it as well.", says Alandra downing her drink and then grimacing. She looks into her cup and then puts it down.
Jun 24, 2024 8:06 pm
I think we need to crack open the captain's room before we go anywhere. Don't want a surprise coming from inside the ship at s bad time. We also need to track down our shuttle as it would be cheaper than having to buy a new one especially since the other was made for this ship.

We need to find out how much we have to trade or money we have to pay for things such as repairs from where we were boarded.

Jun 24, 2024 8:13 pm
Yes says Stinger while thinking about next steps...

And, within the ship, there are still a few things to take care of: astrogation, long range comms, docking bay, cargo hold, recreation room computer, hyperdrive, and captain's suite. All while keeping the protection online.

With Krom here and healthy, there is only one more person in the ship, in the captain's suite. Since he is not getting out, nor we can trust him now, let's leave that tasks to the last.

Also, the logs seem to show a good deal of information on the mutiny, but not on the real reasons behind, right? Those seem incomplete, right?

Shall we divide us in teams or pairs to tackle the ships tasks?
Jun 25, 2024 11:41 am
Reaching for a bit of toast, Alandra ponders Stinger's response. She starts to butter the bread and says, "We should check both docking bay and the cargohold for the artifact. Although, in the brief moment we looked in Cargo while looking for Krom, I didn't see it. From everything I've read in the medical logs. That's the source of our immediate medical issues. Since we need to fix those areas anyways, I'll go along with whoever decides to do that. I'm not terribly good at fixing machines, but I'm very good at fixing people once I've found the proper bread crumb."

Alandra takes a bite out of her toast.

Stinger listens carefully to Sam and Alandra...
I suggest Alandra and Sam go to the docking bays, you work great together and the artifact could be there. CZ530 and Krum, can you check the captain's suite and avoid any surprises?. And I can manage the bridge and cloaking devise while trying to fix the astrogation system. At the first sign of danger, anyone, please shout out and we all run to help, ok? Please, we all keep the comms open, and we all meet at the bridge when done to decide together the next steps, maybe long range Comms and sensors to scan the planets... That makes sense?

"Ok, let's do it then!, Alandra grabs another piece of toast and sticks it in her mouth. With her other hand she hoists her shockstaff and leaves the galley heading towards the bay.

The nightmare that he had while he slept was confusing, chaotic, but sensed that it was clues as to what happened to him, he made sure to note the artifact, a glowing mass and the fight before he fell.

When he snapped back to reality, he caught that he and CZ530 should check the captain's suite. He nodded.

"Alright then, since we're done here and our bellies have been filled, let's go and check out the captain's suite." He said as he got up from the sitting position and started to make his way down there.

Krom and CZ530 head to the captain's quarters and find the doors locked and a quick inspection reveals that the only thing that seems to be active at the doors is the intercom. Though the control panels have power the doors themselves are totally unresponsive. Sam's previous investigation indicated that there were some modifications to the captains' suite including enhanced security and it independant systems not tied to the rest of the ship.

Once at the bridge Stinger begins reconstructing the ships navigation logs. The virus did an annoyingly thorough job of scrambling the information and he can see that it will take some time for a clear picture to be created.

Sam and Alandra check both of the docking bays and other than the fact that one of them is damaged, but repairable with a couple hours work, find nothing of interest. The cargo hold, which spans all 3 decks, is largely unused. What you do find are scattered tools and crates and their contents tossed around. Though it looks like some effort to straighten the cargo hold was done at some point it was no organized and you find yourself digging through various items including rocks, dirt, sections of stonework, bio sample canisters and other miscellaneous scraps of things crushed or blasted by weapons fire.

Stinger is a somewhat frustrated after some time at recovering logs and fighting the mess created by the virus, with no clear results.

He takes a break to drink some cool water and clear his head. Hi all, how are you doing he says by the Comms.

Stinger continues working on recreating the ships travels in this system. The more he does so the quicker it becomes but it is still like working on a jigsaw puzzle.

Alandra finds that most of the bio sample containers were ruined but some remain intact. The contents look to be a mix of standard samples that were exposed to alien environments, alien flora and fauna, and several fossilized and skeletal remains. As she examines the the skeletons she notices that all show signs of crystalline structures growing in, on, and through them. A quick scan indicates that the crystals are the same as the infection of the ship and crew but are inert. Placing the samples in the medical bay for future analysis she continues her work.

Sam on the other hand has confirmed that all of the maintenance drones are offline and likely scrapped. They would have been nice to help clean the cargo bay but Sam figures she used them in the fight with the mutineers. Inspecting the damaged cargo bay door she determines it will require a major overhaul. She might be able to get it to open but doubts it will seal properly until repaired at a repair dock and writes it off as best left closed and sealed for now.

Krom figures he can simply cut open the captains doors but that might get Sam mad at him. Forcing them open after cutting just the locking mechanism might also work. Other than that it would take more technical skill than Krom knows.

She coms CZ530, "CZ530, when you get a second. Could you cross check the anomalies in the computer system with the new information I put into the med bay computer. Maybe if we have both systems working on the problem of this virus together, we'll find an answer faster.

With the ships systems online and integrated once more it is a matter of time before the records are recovered. However a full reconstruction of any/all logs is unlikely. Alandra does find records of a procedure plan using advanced neurostimulators and guided hypnosis to help recover and prevent further memory loss. You decide to do a sweep of the ship once more, just to be sure, now that the limited internal sensors are back up.

As you scour the ship for other anomalies the signs of battle and hasty repair triggers memories the conflict that begin to sort themselves into two separate events. The first must have happened before the mutiny and you recall the ship being boarded by unknown assailants. The attackers were highly coordinated and used advanced technology to overwhelm the crew quickly. As you compare notes you readily identify that the assailants were focused on retrieving the artifact. Other than that they only spent time dealing with trained and or armed individuals. Though the crew fought valiantly the attackers managed to escape with it the artifact after wounding several of the crew. The mutiny was quicker but even more brutal, as evidenced by Krom being left for dead and the drastic measures used to drive off the other crew members.

With the sweep complete you gather at the captains doors to open them by skill or force if needed.
Jul 3, 2024 2:59 pm
Those must have been terrible moments, Stinger is somehow inclined to read all about them but not necessarily remembering them in all detail. But not, we must regain full control of the ship, and apparently face this enemy before being able to be free.

After the general inspection we gathered in front of the captain's doors Ok, let's get this over with. Pistols at ready, just in case. Sam, would you be kind and open the doors please?

Stinger really hopes this situation does NOT become another battle, hopefully whoever got locked in will join the team.

Alandrea finds a human male that matches the captain from what records she has been able to recover is in stasis and infected similar to the rest of you. However the pod indicates the captain can not be revived due to ongoing treatment for previous injuries. However all it notes is that the captain authorized full life saving measures. At the time of entering stasis he suffered from minor blast burns, a stab wound, and the virus. While the stab and burns have been treated the virus is still present and the pod diagnostics has logged increasing severity of issues simply flagged "Anomalous".

A quick check from Sam reveals that the stasis pod has not been infected. Moving to the other systems Sam is elated to find that all of the systems of the captains suite are fully intact with no sign of any of the computer virus or it's scrambling effects. This is likely due to the fact that the captain's quarters are entirely independent, another post production modification. Though the systems do not have a full copy of the ships logs it does have the captains as well as a few key items. With this you should be able to speed and improve the reconstruction of the other corrupted ship logs.

Rushing over Alandra moves to check on the system only to see something odd through the view window. Inside the pod the captain has opened his eyes. But according to the pod controls he should still be in cryo-stasis. Even more disconcerting is that the captains eyes have entirely turns a pale blue. As Krom starts slamming the cryopod cracks form on the glass panel. The pod instantly starts beeping an alarm indicating system integrity may fail if additional damage is taken. The entire device then shudders as the bed and top half of the pod, with the glass face, retract slightly and armor begins to extend from the sides, top, and bottom to fully enclose the pod. You recognize this as an advanced survival pod, usually sold to wealthy clientele as a last measure should their ship be damaged beyond repair. Hey, I'm back to the bridge. I'll take care of defensive systems, and keep an eye of navigation and comm systems there.
I feel we should get the ship in the best conditions possible and then venture to these planets. There are 8 planets in this system, and in one of those the rest of the crew may still be alive. Also, those pirates may attack us if we are not prepared to fight back.
What do you want to do?

OOC:
Alandra should roll 3d6 for all medical tests
Alandra checks the pod and find a couple issues.

First of all the pod is relaxing to much sedative to keep the captain unconscious. Checking the setting she and Sam created to bypass the problems controlling the pod she verifies that it as all correct. But for some reason the captains body is cleaning itself of the sedative faster than it should.

The second issue is that while the sensors and diagnostics systems of the pod are operating normally the control systems are being actively changed or removed. She isn't sure his long the jack will keep the captain sedated but whatever is making the changes hasn't targeted the modifications Sam made yet. Pointing this out to Sam a quick check reveals the system changes are moving down the controls from this with the highest lethality to least. It is as if something is trying to ensure the captain will not die or be killed.

bridge status and medbay update later
Jul 11, 2024 5:05 am
Stinger returns to the bridge and adjusts their orbit a bit before reviewing navigational and sensor logs. It seems the salvage ship is still poking around the gas giant and though it tends to wander it is suspiciously getting closer and closer to the Odyssey. The sensors also show faint records of at least one other ship further in system but there is not enough information to identify it.

Avro accompanies Alandra back to the med bay. With the captains quarters isolated from the rest of the ship Sam can either run a cable to hook into the cryo-pod holding the captain or spend more time reconnecting captains systems back into the ship. In the meantime with a decent amount of data transferred from the cryo-pod to her PDA Alandra is able to have the med bad begin analyzing it as she does a full work up on Avro. You are b bit surprised to learn that while Avro's core shows similar signs of infection from the crystalline pathogen it is almost entirely clear of it now. Checking herself as well Alandra learns her system is similarly clearing up from the infection. However the medbay computers confirm that the captain is heavily infected. The infection has saturated his system to the point that is is now visible to the naked eye. The captain was not being changed and indeed it looks as if the infection was interleaving itself with all the captains organs, bones, and other systems. Unsure what this means Alandra will need to study more.

As Avro watches and learns more about the ships situation she ponders before deciding to tackle the task of aiding the ship systems in reconstructing and reorganizing the ship logs. Learning of the electronic virus that had infected the ship she first ensures her system has an updated firewall and anti-virus database from the ship before plugging in and getting to work.

Sam ensures her and Alandras work will hold. Though not as accurate, with the pods controls being compromised, she ensures the sedative will be continually injected into the captain. However with the pod activating it's armor she will have to break in to refill the chemical reserves it carries or the sedative will run out in a day.

salvage ship - (scan:3d6, track:3d6, listen:3d6)

He thinks that that salvage crew has realised that we are using cloaking systems so they search the area by visuals instead of scanners.
Stinger analyses the salvage ship's course. He wants to understand which area of the gas giant they have already checked visually. Stinger thinks that if we can move the ship, without risking being detected (under full cover of the cloaking system), to a position within the area they already checked... They will continue checking further away without going back. At least for a very long time.

Stinger checks his theory on the salvage ship movements log. If they have indeed been sweeping the area in an orderly fashion, Stinger plot different possible paths around the expected movements of the salvage ship, to avoid detection.

Edit: Since Stinger didn't really found anything clear on the salvage ship, he tries again.

Stinger believes he is correct that the salvage ship is indeed sweeping the area, though he can not see the pattern himself, and makes a plan to avoid the salvage ship If you roll low it does not always mean a fail, but there might be some consequence or uncertainty. Do not reroll just due to a low result. I will use the 2nd roll as your stealth maneuver's Plotting a course he moves to another moon of the gas giant. Though space is large it is also mostly empty so while staying out of sight by playing ring around the rosies and using planets and moons to hide behind work's for now it is not a failsafe method. Going back into the rings, landing on one of the moons, or leaving the area of the gas giant entirely may be needed to avoid the salvage ship.

Avro heads to the Rec Room with Krom and digs into the log helping tweak the reconstruction algorithm Sam set up. The two play catch up and read random logs to try and jog their memories while sorting through the ships logs. As far as they can tell the series of events went something like this See the TSO : Odyssey page Ship Log section for details. Let me know if you want more detail on any specific point.
1. Ship launch with crew records not listing Avro. As far as you can tell she was never listed on ship records and as she was found in the captain's quarters you assume she stayed in there? Avro has only vague memories of other portions of the ship and a good impression of the captain, but again without clear memories. There must have been a reason for her being hidden and isolated but this is still unclear.
2. Regular shake down of the new ship and crew activities proceeded for several days/weeks
3. The ship moved to fringe space and started a survey of the area
4. Anomalous readings were detected and tracing them lead to the artifact
5. The ship started experiencing minor malfunctions and people started having behavioral am memory issues. The first records of the crystalline were recorded
6. The distress beacon turned out to be a ploy to draw the Odyssey in and the ship was attacked and Artifact stolen
7. Attempting to flee the hyperdrive was activated after driving off the pirates. However this caused it to overload and scramble the records. Likely the pirates planted something in the ship's systems during the assault to do this.
8. Now in this unknown system the 1st officer lead a mutiny against the captain but was driven off and fled with the shuttle. The crew that stayed aboard were forced to stay in emergency pods as the environmental systems were compromised by the doctor to drive the mutinists away. As Krom was not in one of these he likely suffered from this and is why he had a harder time recovering and would have died was he not been so tough.
9. You all woke up with a massive memory gap and now need to find a way home.

Alandra works on the medical log and learns that this recent rediscovery may be key in putting past records together. With the understanding that the infection can rapidly spread through and/or leave a person's system some previous inconsistencies begin to make more sense and she is confident on her records recovery. A suspicion enters her mind and she sets up several tests and is slightly surprised by the results. The crystal infection does not move randomly as most virus and bacterial infections. Though it does tend to cluster on neural tissue, not that uncommon on certain types of infections, it does not react the same to all neural cells. Reviewing all the scans of the crew, before and after waking recently, she determines that the infection is moving in what can only be a deliberate way as if collectively conscious and searching for something. Using her portable scanners she begins sweeping various sections of the ship and remaining crew. Though the infection is still present everywhere a clear concentration can be seen in the captains quarters and scan over time show it to be moving to focus in the area.

Meanwhile Sam continues checking on the captains pod as the system appears to have an infection of some sort. A quick inspection reveals that the computer virus that infected the rest of the ship does not seem to be present, or at least not active. A full scan of the independent computer system in the captain's quarters would need to be run to ensure it is not there. As she is looking over the pod and other systems of the captains quarters she notices that some sections of the pods circuits are showing traces of crystallizing similar to the captain.

Not to alarm anyone but it seems the idea that this crystal infection is both with people and electronics may be accurate as the machinery here seems to have crystallization as well happening to it. Now we could just jettison everything but that would mean the captain as well.
Jul 13, 2024 7:25 pm
Alandra's simulations indicated that though the captains entire body is physically being interlaced by the crystal life form his cells and neural functions appear intact. However she can not determine how much control of his body the captain may still have and the crystals and growing throughout his entire body. Simply stopy the medication and slowly reversing the cryostasis effects should fully revive him. Curious Alandra returns to the pod for an updated analysis and though the pod remains sealed she is able to perform a scan using her portable equipment and determines that the crystal is mimicking or even enhancing the captains biological functions, blood is being pumped, air exchanged as needed, etc. However she notes that the crystals are drawing and conducting electrical energy throughout the body and using this to power their functions.

Sam does a quick check, after noticing the earlier alterations to the ship, and verifies that the captains quarters are indeed currently physically and electronically isolated. Though the crystallization has definitely fulling "infected" the cryo pod and is slowly spreading to connected systems in the captain's quarters it will have a harder time spreading to the rest of the ship if it follows its current growth pattern of following circuits and cables. With a few tests Sam also confirms that she can clean off the crystallization but the process is tedious and she is uncertain if she can stay ahead of the whole thing. However if you can continue to direct it to one location she might be able to contain it and clear the rest fo the ship. The problem would be that the captains quarters are a bit big and even dumping the cryo pod would require cutting open the hull, though Sam knows exactly where she would need to cut to do so without affecting ship systems.

Stinger, keeping a monitor on the salvage ship, wants to find a suitable moon for the captain's pod in case they need to get it off the ship. He prefers other solutions, like curing him if possible, but prepares for this option anyway. So he sets the available sensors to analyse the moons (and biggest asteroids) around.

Edit: If he finds a suitable moon close enough, he will land on it. He figure this can help both stay even more hidden from the pirates and have the ship ready to move the captain's pod if Dr. Alandra thinks that's best. Before the landing itself, he tells everyone in the ship, through the comms, so everyone can sit with safety belts on during the landing itself.

Afterwards, he will continue to monitor the pirates.

[ +- ] Captain's Log

Sam check at the request of Alandra and Stinger and verifies that the pod is self sufficient enough to sustain the captain's life if ejected from the ship into any but the most hostile environments. Alandra works with her to wrig up remote telemetry and coms to the pod to allow the ship to monitor the captain if they decide to proceed with this plan. The crystal has continued to spread through the captain and circuitry of the pod. Unfortunately with this extensive growth Alandra is uncertain of any way to remove the crystal, reverse its growth, or redirect it. She can keep the captain alive and wake him up but that is all she is certain of.
Though Avro is not able able to get any concrete records on the artifact itself she is cobles together several logs that mention it.
[ +- ] Records on the Artifact

Less interested in the process of the ongoing investigation than the end result Krom heads to the bridge to help Stinger to reduce the tedium and strain of bridge watch so they can swap of as needed and consult each other should the need arise. Unfortunately there seems to be little to do at this stage as Stinger has put them well away from any detected nearby ships. Together Stinger and the security officer find a suitable site for the work on one of the outer moons. Its low gravity will make any work on the ship and extracting the pod simpler. Plotting a route to avoid detection they bring the Odyssey into orbit of the small and baren moon.

Avro will shift his focus on the sabotage the pirates were likely to have done with the hyperdrive and causing our records to be corrupted.

7. Attempting to flee the hyperdrive was activated after driving off the pirates. However this caused it to overload and scramble the records. Likely the pirates planted something in the ship's systems during the assault to do this.

One of the two docking bay is damages, similar with the cargo doors. One of each is still fully functional. The damaged ones were "patched" by sealing them shut. Both can likely be repaired but that would require extensive work on the damaged doors.

The captain is still alive and thus in need of life support, as far as you can tell. The pod will sustain him for day at least without issue.
Jul 21, 2024 10:45 pm
As best Avro can tell from the ship records and consulting with the sabotage was a hardware device planted on one of the engines. As soon as the hyperdrive began pulling power and setting the destination it was triggered to overload the drive and corrupt the hyperlane database. Sam may be able to get the drive working, with enough time, but the loss of the navigation database from Elarr's virus and the loss of the hyperlane data due to the pirate attack means all you can do is point at some star and go, without any certainty as the getting closer to or further from known space. You ma be able to reconstruct some known star systems and try to find them but that will take time. Avro sets up a basic reconstruction algorithm for the astrogation and hyperlane records and pushes it into the ship systems to be processed along with everything else.

Finding a decent spot you begin the work of disconnecting the cryo pod from the ship power and structure. As you work on it Sam finds that the crystal growth has already extended along both the power and data cables connecting the cryo pod to the captains quarters systems. A quick check reveals that the crystalline growth is actually quite extensive throughout the captains quarters but has not spread beyond due to it's isolated nature and is mostly focused around the pod but slowly infecting all other systems in the captains quarters.

While Sam works to disconnect the pos others of the crew work to clear a path through the clutter of the cargo bay and rig up the crane inside the cargo hold to help move it as much as possible but if you take it out that way you will still have to move it by hand through the captains quarters.

Between the three of you you manage to free the pod from it mounting points. However you find a bit of trouble as the crystal has created a lattice sheethe around the data, and power cables. You end up moving the pod away and extracting the cables form the wall as much as possible only to find that the crystal has spread the entire length of these cables.

How do you want to remove the crystal to sever the cables connections between the ship and pod?

The data and power cables do indeed have connectors but the closest are sealed by the growing crystal. Sam figures she can likely trace and break the connections of the far side then cut or rip out the sections still attached to the pod.

The sedatives worked on the captain. At this time you have not had any success controlling the crystal other that total isolation from its spores. But you have not tried acting on its larger structures directly.

After a bit more effort you manage to free the cryo pod form the ship. As you do you notice that the crystals on the pod seem to retract while those in the captain's quarters actually spread faster for a minute slightly alarming you. However once they slow down they actually look to go dormant but a quick check by Alandra shows that the inflow from the rest of the ship to the captains quarters also stops. However as most of the crystal has already moved into the captains quarters you seal them tight after ensuring you will have external controls and move the captains pod into the cargo area.

In the moons reduced gravity, and with the ships artificial gravity temporarily disabled, you quickly move the pod outside the ship and set it to revive him. After finalizing the arrangements you start the process as you monitor him remotely. Let me know your arrangements. Pod location, anyone near it, does the ship stay on the moon or go back to orbit, etc...

As the sedative is stopped the captains vitals quickly raise though not quite to full active levels normal for a human except his neural activity which is actually much higher than normal. The ship is linked to the pod so you can call and are certain he will hear but you will be unable to activate the microphone or cameras remotely as the circuits that control those functions had already been covered by the crystals growth.

And leaves the rest of the preparation of the pod to the experts.

Then he makes sure the sip is landed on a safe distance from the pod. Afterwards, he goes back to the ship's bridge and prepare to take off if required. Finally, he stays there ready to pilot when needed, following all conversations with the rest of the team by comms.

I am uncertain as to how much control I can exert over the crystalline growth. However I am certain that it will all be attracted to me and the pod if I were to return. If the crystals requirements are met, with me as a host and a power supply to feed on, then I feel that it will focus on maturing before growing. With the artifact as a mature specimen I doubt it will grow rampant all over the ship.

If you are concerned then perform test on the growth that was left behind when I was extracted from the ship. Avro works with Sam and Krom to map the crystals in the captain's quarters. It is quickly found that their growth or collection is centered around where the pod was installed and spread along data and power cables and circuits from there. However this processes has slowly begun to reverse, with the crystals slowly returning to an airborne state, leaving cables first and then circuits last.

Finding an easily accessible section of still solid crystal where they can work they set about testing to see if they can halt affect the crystal. It seems that in the solid but spread out state it is much more vulnerable than when airborn or when it was massed together as a high density form, like the artifact. Several means are found to remove the crystal however this seems to more often than not just convert it to its airborne powder/pathogen state. The crystal power/spores are so fine that none of the filters on board can completely remove them but now that Alandra has been able to isolate it the life support sensors at least identify it.

If the captain is returned to the ship and drawn all the spores into his quarters they can be sealed and isolated. Sam figures a few extra sensors installed at all the points where the quarters have access, doors, conduit holes, and access panels, should alert you to any grown outside of the sealed area.

With the plan in place Sam and Avro begin work on setting up the sensors to track the crystal spores. Krom suits up and helps Alandra maneuver the captain and his pod back to the ship to be placed in his quarters while Stinger continues to monitor the area.

Putting proposed, seconded notion into effect and moving on

Basic plan is to put the captain back in place where the pos was removed from. Let me know if you want to do anything different or make any changes to the quarters or do any other work in there before bringing the captain back on board

OOC:
I think that is the plan but I don't think we should hook the pod back into the ship unless we have too.
After the Captain is back in place Alandra goes back to medical and runs all the new data she learned through the computer.

Afterwards she coms the crew, "So, anyone want to go looking for this artifact?"

The Pod is returned to the captains sleeping quarters but not hooked up to the power or data net. It only takes minutes for the calibrated life support sensors to note the shift in the crystal spore migration moving once again towards the captains quarters as long as the doors are left open.

Now that Jaxon Thrace's pod is back in place, can we all gather in the bridge to plan next steps?

Stinger will wait for everyone to meet there (or join through Comms)...

A brief summary: We have now control of most of the ship, a lot more understanding of this crystal thing, and Mr. Thrace conscious enough, albeit he can't get off the pod, nor fully serve again as captain.

What we don't have yet: Full control of the ship since longe-range scans, the docking bay, the cargo hold and the recreation room aren't yet fully operational. Also, we don't understand nor control the artifact. And, we lack any significant knowledge on those pirates and of the mutineers.

Some ideas about our options: Since facing the pirates or the mutineers may risk battle, I suggest we try to get the ship fully operational beforehand. Also, flying around, looking for the Artifact, may allow the pirates to find us.

My suggestion: Let's try to get the ship fully operational, and battle ready first. Secondly, we go and confront those pirates, hopefully they will run and stop looking for us, so we get that threat away. Finally, we look for the artifact and then the mutineers... what do you think?

Avros responds to the call to the bridge. They wait for the others to arrive.

Although I, still have many blanks in my memory, I feel I was part of the recreation room staff. I can start there or lend a hand to any of you if other systems are of higher priority? maybe weapons and tactical... a lot of the recreation programs lean into combat simulations so thee might be some automation I can code for us...

Avro pauses, then adds: If we are not acknowledging the Captains official capacity, shouldn't we set up some sort of temporary chain of command? I mean now that most of the immediate danger has passed...
Aug 7, 2024 10:31 pm
Krom nods in agreement.

"I agree with Stinger, it would be best for us to have this ship fully operational before we even attempt to venture out, and engage with pirates. We need to make sure that we have weapons operational, that we have proper defenses and to take full inventory of weapons that we have on the ship in case our weapons fail and they want to invade our ship." He suggested.

Sam can start working on th ehyper drive, with help as needed. As the hyperdrive is required for instantanious interstellar comunications until it is fixed there is little you can do on the interstellar comms and sensors until it is repaired.

The rest of you have enough skill yo attempt repairs on the damaged Docking Bay. The damaged cargo door is too massive to rework. The only way you can access it is to ensure it is porpperly sealed and anchored then cut an hole to intall a smaller door.

Let me know what you are spending your time on and add Test rolls for repairs or other activities. I will post a rough repair timeline later tonight but as i recall I said all remaining work would take multile days.
Aug 8, 2024 2:58 am
Hyperdrive repairs will take from 3 to 10 days with a chance of failure ruining the device, or 5-20 days with failure requiring additional time or rare materials.
Repairing the bad Docking bay door will required 2-5 days
Retrofitting the Cargo door will take 3-10 days
Remember you still have 1 working Docking bay and 1 working Cargo door

"A temporary chain of command is a good idea, Avro. Also, If nobody objects, I'd like to nominate Skinner as acting Captian until the Captain is better. As for repairs, I also think weapons should be prioritized. If anyone wants help with repairs, I'll pitch in. Otherwise I'll be in the medlab.", Alandra says.
Aug 8, 2024 7:06 pm
Sam is going to work the hyperdrive but taking time to be careful and do it right. She just got the rest of the ship operational and does not to do anything the jeopardize the ship. Since it is not a immediate need to get done as there seems to be no immediate threat that requires its use.
Aug 8, 2024 8:50 pm
You are right Krom, weapons should be online before facing anyone, and it seems you know weapons more than anyone else. Would you check them please?

After listening to Avro and Alandra, about a chain of command... Stinger is surprised by Alandra's nomination since he has never been captain before. When he recovers...

I didn't really thought about a chain of command before...
Of course, I'm honored that you trust me. I have never been acting captain before, but if you all want or support it, I'll do my best while I'm needed as such.

That was more investigative work to see how/what was done to it but sure that can apply to the time.
Sam gets to work fabricating the parts needed to fix the hyperdrive with the help of Avro. Hyperdrives are built in high end facilities and it is usually not recommended to attempt field repairs but at this time you have little choice. Using only the slip drives of the ship would require decades to reach the closest stars and you have no idea what you may find there.

Stinger, CZ530, and Krom all start working on repairing the cargo door but are limited as Sam's work takes priority and they often have to wait before being able to fabricate needed components. In the meantime Stinger and CZ530 spend a few hours each day working on recovering as much of the navigation system as possible to try and pinpoint where you are and how to get home. As with most of the rest of the ships records they are scrambled so it is a matter of piecing it back together. Krom spends most of his time manning the bridge after verifying the ships weapons systems are fully operational. He fills his time to collecting what information he can by scanning nearby star systems to add new data points for comparison to Stinger and CZ530's efforts.

Alandra for her part sets up several sensors to monitors the captain and continues researching the crystalline lifeform of the artifact. You are all glad to learn that your assumption was correct and returning the captains and the pod to the ship caused all the spores throughout the ship to become concentrated inside the captains quarters. Alandra informs the others that the crystal seems intent on reconnecting the pod to other nearby systems by sending out thin tendrils. So far this is limited to nearby systems in the captains bedchamber and Alandra is meticulous in her monitoring to ensure the crystal growth does not extend outside the captains quarters.

Over the days you begin filling in blanks in your memories and are all feeling much more whole. You fall into a steady rhythm as the work progresses over the days.

The Docking bay is repaired in only a couple days but Sam estimates it will take over a week to finish the hyperdrive repairs. Fortunately between the data recovery and scans done on nearby systems you think you have found a couple of jump points to systems that have a high likelihood of civilization. This comes in the form of one with habitable planets and a couple other with valuable resources that would attract mining operations.

You have another couple close calls with the salvage ships and another ship does a quick sweep of the gas giant but your stealth systems and watch rotation keep you hidden.

How are you guys splitting up duties and service time? The ship systems do not perform at peak without a crew manning them so 24/7. I assume characters will fill there roles etc, just let me know of anything extra and I need a duty roster for times of day that individuals will be on the bridge and/or engineering.

Quick question, is 'TSO Ship' information updated? I'm reading it again to understand our needs and priorities, but I think it may be missing a few details...
About duties and service, as a pilot Stinger is best at the bridge, so he will try to be there MOST of his awaken hours.
OOC:
Although, being an Invex (insect-like) I'm not sure how many hours does he actually sleeps/rests.
Also, being at the bridge allows home to facilitate communication among all the team if needed.
Nevertheless, after fixing the Docking Doors the CZ530, he suggests them both continue working on the recreation room data recovery from backups.

Stinger calls for a short meeting at the bridge, whenever is a good time for all...

Hello all, great job with the reparations!
Sam, if you further aide, please do let us know. The hyperdrive is the priority now.

Alandra, I went through the records about the Artifact and they mention that it seems to be a 'crystalline entity with psionic capabilities'. Which matches what the captain told us and complements that he mentioned that he was becoming some kind of medium for communication with us. Now, I'm worried that we don't yet know the intention of this entity, nor it's name or origin. And we also don't know if all the psychic mess it created when found could happen again, and I really don't want to risk it again. You have been working on the captain and the captain's pod most. Do you have an opinion on these topics? Is it safe to speak with the captain to ask for more details on them?

Krom, you are the weapon's expert. Have you being able to assess the fighting capabilities of those pirates? I mean, since we will eventually need to come out of hiding, I think it would be great if we had a proper comparison between their forces and ours. If we eventually want to examine the planets of this system, we will need time and calm to do that. And that means not staying hidden. Right?
