Scene 1: Inn Plain Sight

Brickowsky peers closer at the picture of the dragonborn in a heroic pose. His emerald green scales glitter as he poses crouched, one claw reaching out to the viewer as the other claw is lifted high, holding a silvery frying pan. The dragonborn is looking at Brickowsky with a boyish grin, his sharp teeth barely revealed. The dwarf carefully flips the portrait to see the backside of the frame. In small letters on the bottom right are the words Alax Jadescales, Sammaster's Red Tower

Brickowsky ponders about the relation of this dragonborn and the picture Hindle mentions Miet has noticed in the locked room. There is certainly a picture of a green dragonborn inside, perhaps the same one or a relation? He will have to do his own research by comparing the two when he enters the room.

Merton seems to melt out of the shadows like a well-known vigilante you’ve heard of and heads straight to the locked door. He nimbly uses his tools to open the lock. As he does so, he realizes the type of locksmith who installed these locks would have used the same ones throughout the area. If he encounters another lock in the area, he’ll probably be able to open it just as easily. *Click*

Merton swings open the door and sees exactly what Miet saw: a bed, chest, portrait, along with a large leather sack with a face embroidered on it on a high shelf.

"Ah! There you are, old chap." greats the wizard his stealthy comrade. "Most excellent work." he comments further as the door swings open seemingly willingly. Maybe it hadn't been locked after all?

Stepping into the room with the picture still in hand, Brickowsky is delighted that they know now what Jadescales looks like. A dragonborn of course. The name tells the story. One might haved guised. Letting his gaze wander, of there is a cat to be found up here, the magic user holds out the picture of Alex to anyone who might be interested as he steps closer to the sack on the high shelf. Pushing the thing with his wizards' wand, he makes sure there is no cat hidden inside it.

If he couldn't find the feline in it, the dwarf would take a minute to investigate the sack, the embroided face, what is inside and so one, before turning towards the picture with the dragonborn.

Brickowsky so far has not seen any more obvious paw prints. He pokes his wand at the sack with a face and nothing untoward happens. There is also no movement and he could almost swear it seems empty. It merely flops from one side to the other. With a swift movement, he knocks the sack off the high shelf with his wand and it falls onto the floor with a *floomph.* Dust on the floor billows about and sets them all sneezing.

Would any of you like to make a perception check?

As Merton enters the room, he adroitly moves out of the way of the sack Brickowsky knocks onto the ground. However, the dust that billows from the impact causes him to sneeze along with the others. Once the group finishes sneezing, a final *ahchoo* is heard, but it did not come from any of the group...

Merton's lightning reflexes allow him to follow the noise and he can tell it came from the direction of the chest and bed.

Someone is invisible in this room Merton quickly utters psychically to the group.

He then summons a psychic blade to his hand and points it toward the sound he heard.

Do not move an inch and end your ruse

Leana feels her group needs her and leaves the spirit and the spiders for now. She dashes upstairs to lend her support.
Jul 10, 2024 4:37 am
As Leana dashes up the stairs, the spider left behind is smart enough to follow its companion and skitter around the corner again. The spirit fox faithfully stands guard at the ice wall until Leana’s return. Unbeknownst to her as she dashes up the stairs to the rest of the group, Derv steps around Oswin’s bones and a glowing circle suddenly appears under him. Leana, assuming Derv is behind her, is already through the swing doors as his shout is swallowed up with him as he vanishes. Leana arrives at the doorway with the group just as Merton shouts out to the mysterious sneezer.
Jul 10, 2024 4:46 am
The chest at the foot of the bed suddenly opens and a long blue tongue rolls out. It turns towards the group and appears as if the tongue will reach for Merton. It stops as he summons his psychic blade and threatens the monster.

"Whoa whoa whoa buddy, just trying to make a living here. Put your sharp toys away before you are bit by something sharper!"
Jul 10, 2024 5:21 am
A mimic? Huh any chase you see a kitty around here? Merton says as he dismisses the blade
Jul 12, 2024 2:54 am
The chest mimic pulls back its long tongue and taps the top of its lid with it, almost like it is in a thinking position.

"Eh? A kitty? Ain't seen no kitties around here, just delicious hot wings and trespassers. And maybe a tentacled beast that disappeared into that bag. I don't know if it's there or not anymore."

The mimic's tongue has been slowly creeping closer to the group as it answers Merton's question.

Hold your place! Merton says resummoning his blade to his hand.

as for the tentacled beast...in this bag? merton says pointing to the dusty bag that fell earlier

Picking up the sack, Brickowsky turns it inside out just to be sure. Maybe this is a magic bag?
OOC:
He would also reach in and so on, to make sure he finds everything.

The chest mimic immediately retracts its blue tongue again and it stays inside the mimic's mouth.

"Yes, that bag. Bag left with man, man left bag here next day."
Jul 14, 2024 12:04 am
Brickowsky turns the bag inside out and a number of items spill out that could not clearly have fit. The bag seems to be bigger on the inside, or it was before it was turned inside out.

As the items clunk onto the floor, the group finds:

- A plush mouse (stuffed with catnip per Leana's experience and Druidic knowledge)
- A tuft of blue-black fur
- Full set of Leather Armor
- Shield
- 5 Pearls

As Bricko investigates the bag, Hindle asks creature, "What is your name? And what living are you here to make?"
Startled by the talking chest and it’s frog-like tongue, Miet moves up high near the ceiling, before retreating to Hindle’s shoulder.

Ooops! Mentioned wrong character!

Some useful stuff maybe... Brickowsky pockets the ugly bag for the moment right after he collected the things that came out of it. The plush mouse he has to forcefully keep away from Roaring Kitty. Instead, he feeds the small but fierce tomcat some tendies. RK loves tendies!

Next the dwarven wizard waltzes over to the bed, after making sure the mimic isn't going to blitz him. Taking a closer look at the other picture on the wall, Brickoswky is interested who is it that is depicted up there. Reaching out with his mage hand if the picture is to hard to get without some kind of unfashionably athletics, like climbing on the bed or somesuch. Quecking again for a scripture at the back of it, the wizard also lets his gaze roam for any further hints. So far no kitten, no Alex, not an inkling of an idea what to do next, after the finished searching this exact room.

The chest mimic licks its "lips" and says to Hindle "I'm here to eat as many delicious hot wings as I can! I can't get enough of that sause! The man brings us the good stuff if we eat anybody that gets in here."

Roaring Kitty stays in the corner, enjoying the tendies, as Brickowsky gets close to the picture on the wall, well away from the chest mimic as it speaks with Hindle. The mage hand tugs at the picture, but it appears to be glued on? No, stuck because of something behind it!

The chest mimic makes an almost perplexed grin at Hindle.

"Why, my name? I guess I never thought of one. I suppose the man always calls me 'Hello' and my friend here 'Bye.'"

The bed now moves with eyes popping out of the bed posts and the mattress lifting up to reveal large sharp teeth and a long green tongue, just as Brickowsky finishes getting on top of the bed!

Brickowsky, please roll a dexterity saving throw!
