The Broken Tower - Gameplay

Welcome to Glorantha

A mythic place of heroes and gods, where people hold allegiance to tribe, city, and cult, not to abstract alignments or ideologies. Although humanity is the dominant species, their dominance is due only to the quarrelling of the Elder Races, who still rule large parts of the world.

In Glorantha, the gods and goddesses are real, and through their cults they play an important role in most major events. Would-be heroes of the age are known as adventurers, and each is tied to several of the Runes, cosmic powers that define Glorantha and are likewise manifested by the gods. Powerful deities are associated with the Sun, Earth, Air, Water, Darkness, and the Moon, as well as with Death, Life, Change, Stasis, Illusion, Truth, Disorder, and Harmony, and each has its Rune.

Adventurers join the cults of their gods, from which they get magic and aid. Adventurers are participating and active members of society, whether clan, tribe, city, or other community. They have duties, loyalties, and conflicts beyond being mere freebooters, with ties to the world of Glorantha and the Runes as deep as they are profound. As adventurers advance within their cults, they strengthen their connection to the Runes, gaining power and questing towards becoming true Heroes. One of the most important places in Glorantha is Dragon Pass. Beset by conflict and blessed with opportunity, it is an extremely magical place, the center of many of the world’s great myths. Dragon Pass is
prophesied to be the site of the great, apocalyptic series of events called the Hero Wars. A recent revolution against the occupying Lunar Empire has left many of the cities of Dragon Pass in ruins. Nobles, cults, and clans vie for power and authority in their wake, and its liberators struggle to rebuild and reclaim that which was lost.

You’ve been on the road for a couple of days, riding in pursuit of the thieves that stole a large portion of your tribe’s cattle—one of its greatest sources of wealth. In the course of this heinous crime, they slew two of your kin and wounded another: simple herders, not even tribal warriors.

Zarah, the Ernaldori clan-chieftain’s wife set you—her boldest and most able-bodied allies—to follow, recover the cattle, and exact retribution for the insult. One of your injured kinsfolk recognized members of the Greydog clan among the raiders, particularly a man named Danakos, an ambitious and bitter Greydog.

The raiders’ path led in the direction of Lismelder tribal land, specifically to the Greydog’s home village.

"I am Vishi Dunn, known more in the Spirit World than this one. As shaman of the Blue Llama clan, I have ranged far and wide, seen much war and even more death."

"Some have called me 'Vishi Kinslayer', but trust me, that name was born of loyalty, not of betrayal. I believe that there is no greater chance for peace than Argrath’s promise."

"I saw Pavis liberated, and there I found friends in Vasana and her allies. Now I ride with them and offer counsel and warnings from the Spirit World - for those who will listen."

He smiles and points to a silver baboon scavenging the grass for insects nearby.

"Pay no attention to Cousin Monkey, my lackey. He is a coward and says little of value."
He laughs heartily with a casual and disarming demeanor.

Dazarim smiles ""I am Dazarim of the Sable Riders of Prax, and I am proud to be a descendant of the great bandit-king Patyan, a legend among my people. Greatness is in my lineage. My mother was the bandit chieftain Loram, and she taught me more about riding and desert survival than you will ever learn. I am as at home atop my mount as I am the ground and can ride like the wind. I have ridden from one end of the Praxian wastelands to the other and I have seen and done many things. I was there when Argrath and his allies summoned Jaldon Goldentooth to acclaim him as the White Bull, and I and my fellow bandits rode alongside him against the Lunars at their New Temple. There, I fought
demons and was near overcome, but I also survived that. Now I ride throughout Dragon Pass to see what I can see, to do what must be done. Stay clear of my sable, for its horns are as sharp as my sword. "

Vasana is a small, athletic woman with a vicious scar across one side of her face. Despite her size, she rides a bison and is more than capable of commanding warriors and priests more senior than herself. She is heavily armored, with a shield, a sword and am axe, and a long lance. A complex bow sits on the saddle behind her.

As they ride along in search of the raiders, they begin to make acquaintances.

"Vishi Dunn. Dazarim of the Sale Riders of Prax, it is a joy to ride inert the same sub as you. I am Vasana, the daughter of Farnan, a hero of Starbrow’s Rebellion, slain and devoured by the Crimson Bat. In my war of revenge against the Lunar Empire, I gained the attention of Argrath at the Battle of Pennel Ford. I was sorely wounded at the Second Battle of Moonbroth, granting me this terrible scar across the left half of my face. I returned to my mother’s farm to recover, and now I am ready for adventure.

My friends know me for a fearsome bison rider, a skilled hand with a sword, and a devout worshiper of Orlanth Adventurous. My honor is my greatest strength."

The hunter moved swift and silent through the trees. The forest welcomed his presence as a well known child, seemingly embracing and enveloping his every step. Occasionally the snap of a twig or the flutter of a branch marked his passing, signs of the speed of pursuit. Nathem lamented those signs, but the trail was heavy with the scent of their quarry. The man channeled his frustrations into speed and alertness as he followed the signs of through the Lismelder lands.

The man paused as he jumped onto a moss covered boulder, looking at the tracks that led on. The only sign of his exertion was the sharp rise and fall of his chest. Nathem's lithe form bore the resemblance of a predator poised to spring. His dark leather's were covered in markings and runes that seemed to follow the surrounding forest. A wild crop of hair spilled down the man's back slightly covering the well worn bow slung their. A complimenting beard, bushy and long flowed down the man's front. His weathered skin seemed to perfectly fit the well worn leathers, both showing the scars of a life of battle.

No sound signaled the approach of Rurik, just that absence of noise that seemed to envelop her. Nathem turned his azure blew eyes to regard the shadow cat. She sniffed delicately at the air in the direction of their pursuit then turned to look at Nathem, her mirrored blue eyes boring directly into Nathem's. The hunter felt emotions rise from his chest as memories flitted at the edge of his mind. The anger boiled at what had been taken from him. Taken by animals that rejected the laws written on the land. By men and women that thought they could take whenever and whatever they wanted. Nathem new the truth. When you stole enough berries, eventually the thorn pricked you. He would be that thorn.

An involuntary growl boiled from Nathem's throat and Rurik followed with her own bass echo. Nathem stopped, his face dropping as he let out a soft, Tht, Tht. Rurik launched herself from the boulder with the grace and silence only a shadow cat could exude. Nathem gave one short nod, noting the sounds of his companions approaching on his left. The hunter resumed the hunt, leaving the rising emotions on the boulder behind. Nathem would continue to leave those memories behind until the blood on his hands washed away the anger.

OOC:
ok while we wait for Makarios to introduce himself, here's what you know.
• The clan chief, Baranthos son of Estavos is away at a trade-time festival at the Sun Dome Temple, along with many other nobles and landowners of your village, along with a protective force of warriors. His wife Zarah is in charge while he is away, and she asked you to do this deed.
• When the herders did not return with the cattle, Zarah sent a runner. The runner went to the pastures and found the herders lying on the ground in a row, two dead and the last nearly so.
• The injured herder is named Berra. She claims that while watching the herd as they grazed a couple of kilometers from the village, they were ambushed. Her fellow herders (Endach and Datha) were killed, and Berra was left for dead. She recognized Danakos son of Egrost as the one who stuck a spear through her belly, and said that the other Greydogs were surprised at Danakos’ actions
• The Greydog clan is a part of the Lismelder Tribe, longtime rivals to the Colymar Tribe (your own tribal affiliation). The Greydogs contest ownership of the Starfire Ridge with the clans of the Colymar Tribe. The Greydogs likely used the trade-time festival as an opportunity to raid against their distant neighbors, undoubtedly in return for some past offense.

The above is all common knowledge, however some of you might know more. Is anyone friendly or even related to any of the herders?

Anyone with Area Lore (Dragon Pass) can make a roll. (Use your Homeland Lore skill, as all of you are from Dragon Pass or Dragon Pass adjacent)

Nathem, I assume you examined the pasture before heading out to catch the trail, so you can make a track roll here. (as can anyone else that feels they have notable skills at tracking.)

Sounds reasonable, Dazarim

As Dazarim is a herder, in Prax anyway, he is familiar with the herders of the Colymar Tribe, though he doesn't have a passion Loyalty (Colymar tribe) it won't aid you
Jul 21, 2024 11:06 pm
OOC:
@Qralloq As Vasana has Loyalty (Colymar tribe) she likely at least knows the herders. You can invoke that Passion at some point in the scenario to augment a skill roll during the events to come.
Jul 21, 2024 11:24 pm
Vasana also knows of the Greydog known as Danakos, son of Ergost and he is a troublemaker.
Nathem, who examined the pasture before setting off, identified that half a dozen Greydogs took the cattle, judging from the tracks.

Both of you can put a tick by those skills for successfully using them. Like CoC, these skills may improve after the scenario.

A serene young man emerges from his tent and glides up to the rest of the adventurers. He's dressed in a simple white linen rob and about his body is draped a large menacing serpent. He holds his hand up, palm facing forward in a gesture peace and warmth.

"Greetings. I am Makarios, son of Tharassa, a healer of Chalana Arroy. I have pledged my life to serving others as the goddess wishes." He looks to the others in the encampment and nods at each as they introduce themselves.

"A pleasure. I grew-up an orphan in Clearwine, if you want to know, in the temple of Chalana Arroy, where I learned much about herb-craft and the healing arts. This beautiful creature," he gestures with his long fingers to the serpent coiled around his body, "is Whisper. She found me when I was dying, nearly slain by trolls, and kept me alive. She is a bit shy, so do not feel offended if she is quiet to you." He smiles as he strokes its scaly body.

The bandits were easy enough to follow—as it is impossible to disguise the path of three score cattle—but they took a strange detour northward, into these badlands where neither of your clans cares to venture. The grey and sullen sky overhead gives you no comfort in this bleak place, and any hope you had of returning home in fair weather is gone. Occasional drops of rain spatter upon you, and rumbling to the south indicates an oncoming storm.
Following the cattle-thieves’ path, you have come across a disquieting sight…

You spot a humanoid figure sprawled face-down on the ground, several hundred meters to the north, lying amidst the vast swath of earth churned by cattle hoof-prints.

Approaching the body and looking closer, you see that it is a human female, dark haired with brown eyes. A member of the the Greydog Clan, she is clad in the blue-edged woolen tunic characteristic of their weavers. Shooing away the crows that have been picking at her flesh, you can examine the body closer. You learn that the woman's throat was cut and she has nothing of value on her. The leather cords of a coin purse hang from her belt, where it was severed and any weapons she may have carried have been taken. Only a small eating-knife is sheathed at her belt. Nearby her corpse is a ring of stones with the remnants of a fire.

OK Vishi, let's do some magic. First of all, you should have some kind of focus or fetish that serves as a reminder and token of the spell. What form does this take? Suggestions below.
[ +- ] The focus
Now your roll to cast a spirit spell is POW x 5, so 95% for Vishi, so a very good chance.

You can however boost the spell with :

Meditation
-Any magician can increase the chance of casting a nonritual spell or using a Rune by using the Meditate skill successfully. This enables the caster to focus their psychic energy on the spell, effectively trading time for an increased chance of success.
[ +- ] Meditation
Ritual - An adventurer can increase their chance to successfully cast any spell (including ritual spells), use a Rune, or perform a Magic skill (such as Worship) through a ritual practice. These take many forms in Glorantha, including ascetic meditation, chanting of mantras, creating mandalas or other geometric patterns, carving of Runes, etc. All these practices allow the caster’s psychic energies to be focused for potentially great lengths of time, but can greatly increase the chance of success.
[ +- ] Ritual Preparation
Skills - An adventurer can augment their own or another adventurer’s chance of casting a spell or a magical resistance roll by using a skill such as Dance, Sing, speaking a magical language, or another skill determined by the gamemaster
[ +- ] Time spent performing
I've posted these in the basic rules thread too, for anyone else wanting to delve into their magical side.
Jul 24, 2024 8:32 pm
Vishi places his right palm on the young woman's chest. With his left hand he traces the outline of one of the many tattoos adorning his right arm (Focus). It is the Rune of the Moon, a simple circle bisected with a straight line. His breathing deepens and slows, eyes closed (Meditation). He is quiet for a moment.

The others in the party begin to see a soft glow emanating from the prone corpse.

The Stone Woman came to one of the Greydogs, and cast her spell upon him. That man went back into the camp and announced they were going north instead of back to Talavaldis, their home village. When they protested, he killed one of his own people. The rest then packed up and rode off, in the middle of the night. All of that happened since midnight, about half a day ago. The Greydogs are probably taking the cattle to the Stone Woman’s ruin, an ancient hilltop temple complex deep in the ragged forest and foothills to the north."

He points his stick back toward the woman where Vishi Dunn still stands, "She should be put to rest, I don't want another spirit wandering lost around the Badlands, especially if the Stone Woman might get to her. the badlands are full of spirits and ghosts of all types. Most are just hungry for something, the same as anything else." He rubs his own skinny belly.

Carthalo, frustrated at Vishi and Nathem's poor attempts to compose the body, starts to give directions and despite his addled mind, he seems sharp when it comes to these matters of death and the spirit world. Nathem’s lip curled. Always the way with murderers… They all have excuses for why they commit atrocities. For clan, for common good, because they were told… Nathen turned to look toward where the other raiders went, keeping his thoughts to himself.

"Danakos, Son of Ergost, myself and four other Greydogs - Mitrolar, Desonil, Theydinna and Varanik - went along with his scheme, hoping for some fame and status within the clan for such a daring raid. We were going to simply ambush and tie up the Colymar herders, and we were surprised when Danakos killed the captors. They argued but it was too late. There was little we could do but return home with the cattle. Me and the others, we made a pact that after the clan chief awarded us, we'd return to Colymar and offer to pay double the life price for those that were killed."

"Just before going to sleep, we all confronted Danakos about our plan, and he said he’d watch the cattle and think about it. He woke us several hours later and said that we were to take the herd north, into the woods, a detour from the relatively easy path home. We refused, and the next thing I knew, I was coughing blood, and realized I’d been murdered."

The spirit looks down sadly at her own body, "The next few moments were a blur, and when I became aware of her surroundings once more, the cattle were gone. I tried to return to my village, but something about the nature of the badlands confused and disoriented me, and I have been looking for my kinsfolk ever since."

"Please, I beg you, put my spirit to rest."
Aug 5, 2024 5:14 pm
Vasana feels deeply for the spirit girl. To reach for glory and then have it all go wrong was a fear of any warrior. She thinks to get own deeds and those of her ancestors. How would things be different if something like this happened? No, the fault remains hers if diminished. They did not confront him until it was too late.
Aug 7, 2024 8:25 am
"What do you think, Vasana? Should we resolve the issues that tie her to this world?"
Aug 7, 2024 12:51 pm
Nathem looked at Dazarim, then to Vasana, his face a blank mask. He turned to the path of the cattle and made a noise Tht, tht. At the noise, Rurik began running along the path. Nathem reached up with each hand brushing off the opposite forearm. He started to move and then stopped abruptly, not turning to speak but saying quietly. Peace comes at the death of Danakos who is deserving of such... Having said that, Nathem moved off to follow the path.
Aug 8, 2024 1:57 am
Vasana nods. "Leaving her spirit to wander the land serves no one, avenges no one, and could cause trouble for innocents later. It would be a poor fate and is beneath us. Let us lay her spirit to rest."

The ground here is too hard to dig but you are able to gather a large collection of stones and cover the body as the spirit watches mournfully before disappearing.

Leaving the old man without another word, you head off following the trail of the cattle, hoping to catch up with Nathem the Hunter. As Makarios is the only one on foot, he climbs on Vasana's bison to speed your journey. Within a half hour, the rain begins to come down , slowly at first then turning into a downpour and you are beginning regret not taking the old man's offer of shelter.

Vasana nods at the hunter. "Your trail was safe, goodman?" she asks, concerning herself with the man's state.

As she tends to Molon, who has been somewhat grumpy bearing two riders so she gives him a thorough rub down as a reward, she listens to the others.
Aug 19, 2024 9:19 am
As you try to get some rest in the cave, the storm intensifies. Rain pelts the countryside and lightning flashes and thunder cracks immediately overhead. Soon enough you sleep, Nathem keep watch for most of the night, Dazarim taking over in the early hours.

By dawn, he wakes you all and the storm has broken for the moment, though the sky is still bleak and spitting with light ran. There is a distant rumble across the hills, hinting at more of a storm to come.

You head out northward, into the rocky foothills of the Starfire Mountain range. Though the tracks have been washed away in the storm, for the most part, Nathem leads you to an ancient and long-abandoned road, the paving stones broken and separated over dozens of centuries of neglect, lost to mudslides and other calamities but nonetheless a sign of onetime habitation. Noticable, are the many broken and defaced menhir along the road. All have been pushed over, broken apart and the pieces scattered lazily.

You set off once more, the threat of the lizards isolated, and the destination of the Greydog clan becomes obvious, an old ruin standing on a steep hill, jutting upwards from the rocky hills and above the tree tops.

The woods are strangely quiet, you can't even hear birds and the light patter of light rain and wind blown leaves are the only sounds. You can't help but notice the Stone Woman menhir's are more prevalent. The trail of the herd and its thieves leads directly up a gently sloping ramp, into the old ruins.

With regards to sneaking, Nathem has a very high affinity with the Movement Rune, so might use that as inspiration. Note you can only call on an inspiration once in any given scene, but if it succeeds, the benefits apply to multiple rolls (a good example is in combat). Temporal spirit magic spells last for 2 minutes, so wouldn't have been much point casting earlier, so you can cast it now, before firing. Remember you can cast a spell and fire a bow in the same round, it just uses Strike Ranks. the spell is your Dex SR +1 per magic point after the first, which means Nathem can cast Speedart on SR1 then fire the bow on SR2, all pretty instantaneous, and as he has surprise, from his move Quietly roll, could do this before anyone reacts.
The use of a rune/passion etc is just something you state (and justify if need be) , make that roll first and based on that roll get a bonus or penalty to your next roll.

Vasana leads the way up the wide sloping ramp on Molon, while the others follow behind on foot, into the heart of the hilltop ruin. Once past the ramp, it is clear that all the buildings are half crumbled, half exposed to the sky and rubble chokes every narrow road and wrecked chamber, making it hard for Molon to navigate beyond the ramp, forcing Vasana to dismount.

The architecture is unlike anything you are familiar with, the shapes of the walls and organization of streets give you the disquieting sense of being built by something other than human. Dotting the area and spaced evenly along the ramp into the ruin are intact versions of the stone menhirs, depicting the heavy woman with exaggerated curves, bands of jewellery or something else encircling her head entirely. The stonework is relatively crude, well in keeping with the menhirs depicting the Stone Woman; hewn stones fitted tightly together, with little space between them, but no mortar. Other walls are much older, rough earthworks with exposed layers of gravel and stone.

Among the rubble are skulls of cattle, bison, horses, rams, antelope, sable deers and even impala litter the place, some on the ground, other embedded into the earthy walls.

Nathem saw his bow strikes seemed to pass through the creatures without really harming them. Scanning the environment in the flash of combat, he spot an old crumbling stone wall. Whistling quickly to Rurik to call the cat away and free from harm, he called to Vasana, pointing. If you press it there, I'll drop that wall on it... Nathem stowed his bow as he scrambled over the broken rocks to plant a shoulder against the wall. He looked around the ruin waiting for the opportune moment to push.

Nathem yanked against his chains. The ravager raised his blade, the already broken form of Ferri laying on the ground before him. The fire consuming the surrounding village gleamed off the sword as it moved. As Nathem saw the blade fall he felt his life fall with it. Something broke inside him. A primal scream erupted the man's throat as a strength beyond what he dreamed capable surged through him. As the strain against the bonds increased, Nathem heard a sickening pop as something in his body gave way. The hunter noted the information for the future... Something to be dealt with when his hands held the ravager's head. Nathem tumbled forward in a roll, the chains sliding from his broken limbs. The revenant that was Nathem Son of Nhean leapt onto the man's back as he lifted his sword from the grim deed. Nathem's teeth penetrated the man's neck unleashing a spray of blood and gore that sprayed Ferri's simple brown dress. Nathem kept biting, tearing, gnashing until he realized he was choking on the man's blood. Nathem lifted his head to stare at his daughter. Light had left her eyes, but Nathem saw the look of horror on her face. In shame, Nathem wondered if the horror was aimed at the ravager or his own savagery. Nathem wept as he dragged his broken form across the ground toward Ferri. He could hear the tumult and clamor of the surrounding village dying, but there was an overwhelming press on Nathem's ears. A buzz that could not allow anything else into his grief, his anguish. He lay next to Ferri, weeping bitterly, not noticing the fires burning low. The quiet, the uneasy quiet that hovered around him. He lay until he felt a soft lick against his cheek. The hunter lifted his heavy eyes to see Rurik. The cat had a broken leg and had dragged itself to lay on Ferri's chest. Nathem looked into Rurik's eyes and saw a grief mirroring his own.
Nathem growled, a primal sound, unnatural and haunting as he heaved against the wall. The balance shifted and the structure collapsed on the animated creature.

Having found some loot among the stones, the group continue toward the tower. As you get closer, you notice the animal heads on the ground are fresh, some have markings in the horns that you recognise from the Colymar tribe.

A slope leads up to the tower and the sounds of cattle are close. The central chamber of the broken tower is a round room with sloping walls, deep alcoves set into them. Only one door leads to and from the room: the one you are at. The tower’s roof collapsed long ago, and piles of rubble were pushed to the sides of the central chamber, or have been shoved outside by the door. Light shines directly down on the low stone altar in the center of the room, illuminating a flensed and bloody horned bull skull sitting in its midst, with an array of reddened bones arranged in a strange pattern beneath it and a bloody cow-hide draped over one side. Rain drips down, making all shine with wetness.

Behind the altar is three-meter high ochre-stained stone statue of a giant naked woman, her female characteristics exaggerated to a grotesque degree. The altar is already stained with blood and gore, the copper scent of blood permeating everywhere. . On the ground next to this altar are ragged chunks of meat, crudely butchered.
Nearby, sprawled and slumped against one wall are three of the Greydogs. The Greydogs’ throats were cut, their chests drenched with blood, and their garments showing signs of a struggle. It is obvious that they were sacrificed here.
A strangely curving array of rivulets leading from the altar are full of blood, draining into holes set in the floor at various places in the room. Arrayed throughout the room at the edges of the floor are stone bowls of all shapes and sizes, high and low. Some of them have shriveled and unidentifiable bits of material in them, others are empty, while others are full of bloody flesh and cow-hide, cut from the skull on the altar. Skulls of animals litter the floor.

Behind the altar and the dead bull looms the statue, the true form of the Stone Woman, though without her enfolding cloak and robe. The statue’s arms are folded at its sides and the oversize head is featureless but for the knobbed bands that run entirely around it. The legs end in toes that splay like roots, and the stony surface is entirely stained in ochre.

You no strangers to animal sacrifice, as it is commonly practised, but the sort of ritual offerings you have always witnessed and taken part in are generally more ceremonial in nature. There is the sense that this was something more primitive, more primal, and the chamber itself is disquieting beyond your experience.

On seeing Vasana step forward, the man jumps out from his hiding place, a startling figure, spattered in dried blood, dirt and gore, but unmistakably wearing the attire of a Greydog. In his hand, a bloody broadsword. You can only assume this is the leader of the group, Danakos.

The earth in front of the altar begins to shift and a figure rises from it, an arrangement of bones, hide and vines topped with a bull's skull, the flesh recently stripped. It doesn't move, just stands as the vines flick and wrapped around the body.

A low voice fills the entire tower, in Old Theyalan, then in Heortling, "I awaken. I hunger. I have slept for far too long! I thirst for blood and offerings! Will you bring me more?"

From the stone idol behind the altar, a spirit appears in the form of a heavy woman clad in a billowing, hooded cloak of tattered grey finery, her face wrapped in loose bands (like bandages) with a single gleaming light emanating from between the bands. Her hands are clasped

You can do that still this round (SR12 I would suggest)

Quote:

Helpless Opponent: A totally helpless opponent can be killed with any weapon unless the attacker rolls a 96–00. The attacker’s chance of fumbling is the same as usual with an attack with that weapon.

Vasana, you're up next
Dec 27, 2024 5:29 pm
Vasana thanks Vishi for banishing the spirit and rushes over to Dazarim. She drops her sword and grabs one of the arms of the statue and will attempt to free him, or make it easier to free himself.

Jan 2, 2025 6:58 pm

Every square moved is 1 Strike Rank, so Vishi could reach the statue by SR4, then add to that whatever action he wants to perform. His dagger axe is usually SR 5 meaning you could attack on SR9

Vishi, eyes intent and dagger-axe at the ready, moves toward Idrima carefully maneuvering over and around obstacles and debris.

For anyone wondering about Vishi's weapon of choice:
Dagger-axe: This pole weapon consists of a dagger-shaped head set perpendicularly to a long shaft, similar in appearance to a short-bladed scythe. It is highly effective against mounted foes who think they are out of reach. A spear is often added to the top of the shaft. Up to 2 meters long.

Vishi's pole arm slams into the chest of the giant statue sending flint flying all around
OOC:
So after 6 armour points, that's 13 damage!
The statue topples backwards, stumbling over the altar and crashing to the ground.

Next Round. The statue is on its back, but still moving.

What's everyone doing this round?
Jan 3, 2025 1:56 pm
OOC:
Did it by chance release Dazarim when it fell?

If it did not, Nathem would cast Bear's Strength on himself and try to pry its fingers open to get Dazarim. Or maybe cast it on Vasana? I think she might be stronger to start. Oh, but she would have to be an Odayla worshiper.

OOC:
What are the mechanics of dying in Runequest? Is Dazarim dead-dead or if Nathem tried to heal him could it bring him back? Sorry I'm just not familiar with it. If there is nothing that can be done, then Nathem would cast Speedart and try to shoot the stone statue in the head.
Jan 3, 2025 9:08 pm
OOC:
Valid question, we're all learning the system after all!

Damage equal to more than a hit point's location can mean various things, to a leg or arm the limb becomes useless but no risk to life. To the abdomen the victim will bleed to death in 10 minutes without first aid. To the chest (as in this case) the victim will cough blood and bleed to death in ten minutes. To the head, it's a knockout and death in 5 minutes without treatment. In this case, Dazarim took 9 damage to the chest, after armour that's 7, so more hp than he has on the chest. In this case, Dazarim has lost consciousness but can still be saved by First Aid or magical healing.

Resurrection is also possible after death, followers of Chalana Arroy may have access to this powerful magic. A temple would charge whatever the adventurer's Ransom stat is to do the job and must be within 7 days, after which the soul has travelled to the Court of Silence, gateway to the afterlife.
Jan 3, 2025 11:32 pm
OOC:
Vasana has magical Healing as well, in case Nethem would rather do something else this round.
Jan 4, 2025 4:07 am
OOC:
I think Nathem would have to roll a 35 (Spirit Combat Magic) to successfully heal, is that right KEG? How does that line up with Vasana? Is Makarios the healer?
Jan 4, 2025 10:42 am
OOC:
A casting roll is POW x5 so 75% for Nathem. ( the 35 is for spirit combat, as Vishi just engaged in)

Makarios is the natural healer of the group so should have the best ability to heal (though his PIW is 60, so casting roll is harder ).
Jan 4, 2025 10:57 pm
OOC:
I’ll just attempt the heal.
Nathem ran to the unconscious form of Dazarim calling out a whispered prayer to Odayla as he laid a hand on the man.

Yes. He'd only have to move 2, to cover that area and still enclose the newly formed Skrul-Pa.

Makarios moves around the outskirts of the tower interior and casting his spell, there is a loud boom.

There is a rumble as the ground begins to shake. The statue breaks into small boulders that seem to then melt into the ground, leaving just an outline of dust where the statue laid.

The avatar of Idrima is vanquished, along with her minions.
Jan 22, 2025 11:56 pm
With Idrima and Danakos dealt with, Makarios takes care of Dazarim and gets him back to his feet. Searching the outside of the tower, you find a large corral, choked with weeds and blocked with a stone gate, holding the herd within. Exactly 54 of the creatures remain, aside from the one you found, five were sacrificed to the Stone Woman.

Dazarim gets them gathered and moving out of the pen, through the temple complex and down the hill.

Returning first to the home of Carthalo, you throw the stone by the gate and the spirit of Lannike reappears.

Lannike, Greydog Ghost Woman
"Is it done?"
Jan 24, 2025 7:07 pm
"It is," Makarios answers solemnly, still out of breath from their scrap. "But I fear our trouble is just beginning if, as you say, there are more of these foul creatures wandering the badlands. Is the herd still in danger?"

OOC:
Maybe I misinterpreted...I thought she said there were several stone women inhabiting the badlands that posed a risk.
Jan 25, 2025 8:56 am
OOC:
It was the old Shaman, Carthalo, that warned you of the Stone Woman. Lannike never lived long enough to encounter her, she was murdered before Danakos and the other Greydogs arrived at the broken tower. From what you can surmise, it was never their intention to go to the tower, but something influenced Danakos to go there and ultimately sacrificed his kinfolk and 5 of the cattle.

On speaking with elders of the village you learn of Idrima, the Stone Woman, one of the daughters of goddess Maran Gor the Earthshaker. You appeared to defeat a demi-god in combat, but suspect it is not the end of her.
Jan 25, 2025 6:44 pm
Vasana is glad the spirit has departed, a relief upon the world.
Jan 26, 2025 2:23 am
Nathem silently nodded, dropping his gaze to rest on Rurik at his side. The man reached down to scruff the cat’s ear and it turned to look up at him with half closed eyes. She licked her lips and Nathem thought he saw peace in her blue eyes. Nathem sighed at that as he moved to set out back toward the village.
