Just around Reptile smiles, "I'm sure we left a mark on them to be remembered. We are just holding here awaiting you couple to regain your senses. Poison was harsh."

"I might hazard a guess that 'she' is the same entity that Jonbon spoke of," says Aanbo. "You weren't there for the interrogation, Master Chase, but the bard was eloquent and skilled in speaking half-truths when questioned. When the topic turned to the spiritual, however, he became almost manic and wild. He spoke of a goddess that gave him greater purpose and involvement in something grand, that made him want to earn her favor and be a part of her community. His attempt at kidnapping the Jarls was to bring them to her, and Bertram probably was going to do the same to us."
Looking at Myrtha, he adds, "He probably used the same thing Jonbon used, buteo. Do you suppose if we searched his kitchen, we'd find it? I admit, I don't know what it would look like."
The monk looks at the abandoned building. "Jonbon also mentioned how some feared the goddess and fled. I imagine the residents of this place chose to leave, lest they become forcibly involved."
Aanbo stands, kneading the ground with the toes of his bare feet. "You three should rest. We'll check out the house and see if there are any squatters."

matmaisan says:
Are Myrtha, Joseph and Theran under the secondary effects of the drug? Poisoned and with one level of exhaustion?OOC:
No, you are all back to normal now. The effects were binary, not cumulative. Either you failed the save and passed out for hours, or you made the save and remained conscious with a penalty. Now that so many hours have passed, all the effects of the drug are gone as it has worked its way out of your systems.Aug 9, 2024 6:45 am
Aanbo, Chase, and Reptile go over to examine the house. Plants have grown up to partially obscure their view, but as they get close they see that what they took to be shutters on the windows are actually boards that have been nailed over the openings. The door has similarly been boarded up to discourage entry.
OOC:
You could hazard a guess as to how long ago this happened with an INT (Investigation) check, though there's likely to be more evidence (to lower the DC) inside. Or perhaps there's something else you're hoping to discern about the place? If so, declare what you're trying to find evidence of and make the roll.Aug 9, 2024 9:59 am
Chase looks at Reptile and Aanbo House looks pretty secure maybe we should just stay in the barn. Removing boards would make noise and someone might notice them gone.
Aug 9, 2024 5:15 pm
"I agree about the noise," says Aanbo. "I don't think we'd want the barn to be a permanent home, anyway. I just want to make sure no one else had the same idea. Any recent tracks?"
He tests the boards to see if any are loose, which might indicate someone already entered and replaced them, or just shoddy workmanship.

Foreigner Reptile says, "Quiet holding up in the make do barn lets me now know how those escaping suspects that have often chased lived. Best not to tarry with the obviously empty building."

I will scout the area for recent tracks and then mask our own so no one is the wiser.

investigation, Stealth, Survival - (1d20+3, 1d20+5, 1d20+4)
1d20+3 : (14) + 3 = 17
1d20+5 : (1) + 5 = 6

Chase spends a bit of time examining the ground around the house, as well as the wood of the boards that have been nailed up. As best as he can determine, it's been half a year since the house was boarded up. There's no trace that anyone has been by the house recently: there are no tracks, and the only trails through the weeds aside from the one they made themselves last night belong to small game and vermin: squirrels and lizards. Chase directs the others, and together the three prop up broken plant stalks to conceal their path as much as possible.
The weeds are of benefit to the party, as they are tall enough to obscure them from the view of the neighbors - two adults and three children - who are already up and working on the farm across the road. There isn't grain, a carcass, or any other food enough for a flock of birds to feed, so there are only a few isolated birds here, that flit away as the adventurers move through the yard. They are not enough to give away the party's presence to any casual observer. The morning sun is warm. Bees drone from flower to flower, looking for nectar. Occasionally the calm is punctuated by one member of the neighbor family calling to another or laughing, distant enough to be unintelligible. Smoke from the closer Inn down the road indicates that a fire has been lit; Reptile, Chase, and Aanbo smell baking bread for a moment.

Looks at Aanbo and Reptile Should we head back to the barn and let the others know we should be safe here if we keep our noise and visibility down? Then plan our next move for when they are rested up.

"I agree. Let's get back." It is his is simple thought. He leads off back to the barn.

Aanbo nods. "It would be hard to move without being noticed, but perhaps there is a path to the temple out of view from the town?"

Having satisfied themselves that no one is hiding in the boarded-up house, Chase, Reptile, and Aanbo return to the barn. The entire party - Aanbo, Chase, Joseph, Myrtha, Reptile, and Theran - is awake and together now. Aanbo and Myrtha have already suggested investigating the Temple, and at some point Myrtha wants to return to the Golden Grain Inn to retrieve the rest of her belongings. But you are free to discuss and determine what you will do next.

After the scouting party returned, Myrtha considered the party’s option in her mind before volunteering some ideas.
"We can certainly circle the village from outside, and reach the temple from the far side. But I will be less effective without my shield… If we step into that inn again, they will know we’re still around, and might raise the alarm…"

OOC:
Her fighting style is protection, so she will be deprived of the possibility to use the features related to that style until she has a shield, any shield, equipped. Going back to the Inn and recovering her stuff would mean revealing that the party hasn’t just fled back into the woods, so we should avoid that…Aug 12, 2024 10:05 am
We need to do an inventory. What all did we lose back at the GG? Maybe we could sneak back in and find our stuff.
Aug 12, 2024 1:58 pm
"You’re right Chase, we should take stock of what we left at the inn. Going back for it, though, I’m not quite sure. Right now they must think we’ve run for our lives. They might fear retribution, but I’d wager they don’t think we’ve stayed in town. That could be used to our advantage, is all I mean… particularly if we mean to surprise "her" at the temple."

Friend Reptile surprisingly offers Myrtha, "Well if you dearly need a shield then you may use mine. I can loan it you."
He adds on, "I think a quick run to town would be okay. That is before we hit the temple."

"So let me go in and look around. See if I can find our things. If I can't get them, we will at least know where it all is," Theran suggests.
Aug 12, 2024 2:46 pm
"Well, if you can slide in there. I'm not exceptionally set that way. And assuming we do really have the time." He looks over to Aanbo.
Aug 12, 2024 4:00 pm
Aanbo blinks, surprised at the assumption that his approval is required. "Um, well, it is best if we are fully equipped for our investigation," he says. "However, can we risk being discovered, or worse caught, and does that outweigh our preparation?"
He meditates on the choice. "Reptile has offered a shield to benefit Myrtha's skills. Does that mean Reptile is less prepared for the temple? What about you, Theran, did you also lose your equipment back at the inn? Joseph? Chase?"

OOC:
Truth be told, I wasn't sure who would have left their gear at the inn before going outside to case the building. I know Aanbo and Reptile did not go to the beds and remained in the dining room the whole time.load next
