OOC:
Makes a lot of sense. I'll try to declare her intentions beforehand, and you can assess, situationally, which attack she could have intervened in. In any case, I thought she would not be able to act to protect Reptile given that the triggering event for villager 2's opportunity attack was when he left an his threat area, meaning that Reptile would then be two squares away from Myrtha. What I should have done, in any case, was plug the gap between Myrtha's current position and Aanbo's position. That way she could have used her shield to protect Aanbo or Reptile, depending on the circumstances, and Reptile wouldn't have been stopped from crossing her square.

Theran grabs Villager 7 with his spectral hand again, and Villager 7 takes 3 damage. The strange green humanoid perishes, burbling in a series of noises that might be language.

With Villagers 5 and 6 both defeated, this ends round four.

ROUND FIVE

Joseph does something out of view.
OOC:
Reptile rolled and failed a WIS (Perception) check.

Myrtha attacks Villager 2, and manages to slash him across the chest. Villager 2 takes 8 slashing damage. "You don't have to die here, you know you're beaten!" His mad, staring eyes roll in his head, and she is not sure that her message registered.
Villager 3 desperately attacks Reptile again. The bolt sinks into his flesh. Reptile takes 3 piercing damage (reduced from 7 by Rage).
Villager 4 does something else out of sight of the Dungeon Busters.
[ +- ] Abandoned Barn Night Battle, mid-round five
Ignoring Villager 2's clumsy attacks, Aanbo stoops and picks up the the Light stone, pulling it out from under the strange corpse of Villager 7 and tucking it into his robes. This returns the interior of the barn to darkness, and then Aanbo zooms past Villager 2 out into the yard, and leaps into the air, delivering a flying kick to Villager 3's head. There is a loud snap! and Villager 3 falls to the ground. Villager 3 takes 8 damage and his head lies at a weird angle. Aanbo lands on his feet and yells "We've been in the temple this whole time!" Aanbo can also attempt a Perception check, DC15.
Up in the loft, Chase waits to see if any of the villagers who have fallen - three, five, or six - stir or attempt to get up again. None of them do.

Perception check - (1d20+4)

(1) + 4 = 5

Myrtha stepped from behind the closed barn door, and slashed again at the obstinate villager still blocking passage. "You don't have to die here, you know you're beaten!"
OOC:
Step 5ft down, on the map, and attack villager 2. I'm opting to spare his life if she can nock him down. If he is out of the way after this attack, Myrtha will rush forward to engage villager 3 (hopefully imposing disadvantage on any ranged attacks, or forcing him to retreat before firing).

Concerned that the battle continues to draw attention and the words of the fallen villager have accused the Dungeon Busters of the crimes, Aanbo reaches down to grab the Light object and tuck it away in his robes. He then maneuvers his body around Villager Two, twisting away from any weapon, and heads for Villager Three to deliver a flying kick. "We've been in the temple this whole time!" he announces, hoping to salvage something from the slander.
OOC:
I believe picking up an object is a free action, but if it's not the case please ignore the following:
Bonus Action: Spend 1 ki point for Step of the Wind and DIsengage. 0/2 ki points remaining.
Movement: Move to Villager Three.
Action: Unarmed Strike vs Villager Three.

If three is still up and I can get a shot I will take it. If not I won't and will sit tight looking and listening for others.

GeneCortess says:

OOC:
Reptile is fine, being outside in the starlight. The ones who are in the dark are still inside the barn. Since the fighting hasn't quite ever moved into the barn, it effectively just makes the people inside - Theran and Myrtha - harder to target. Reptile can continue to attack normally.

Villager 2 is the only obvious combatant remaining; what does Reptile do?
Oct 12, 2024 7:44 pm
Raging Reptile rushes wounded Villager 2 from the backside and attempts to cleave the man in two. Bit of a bloody mess.
OOC:
Is there enough light or do I need to roll at disadvantage?
OOC:
Crit hit for 14 damage.

Chase will check all of his knot holes to see if we have others sneaking up.
Oct 14, 2024 5:44 am
Reptile's cleave does, in fact, slice Villager Two in two. The torso falls away from the legs, which topple over. Miraculously, none of the gore gets on Myrtha.

This appears to have defeated all the enemies.

For surviving this attack, each PC gains 40 XP.

Chase goes to look out of the knotholes and sees no motion anywhere nearby, though from his elevated position, he can clearly hear the voices of concerned neighbors who are on their way to investigate what all the yelling meant. He can see the light of approaching lanterns. The people are approaching warily, unsure what they're going to find. They probably would have been here already, except that Aanbo pocketed the light, so they're wandering in the dark. "The yelling was coming from this direction, I tell you!"

Aanbo turns around and sees the carnage of the fight: six dead bodies sprawled in the tall grass...wait, SIX bodies? Aanbo does a double-take. There is another body by the corner of the barn - not one of the attacking villagers, unless Joseph managed to hit the last one with an arrow. Where is Joseph, anyway? There is no sign of Joseph.
[ +- ] End of the Abandoned Barn Night Battle
You are out of initiative. What do you do now?
Oct 14, 2024 9:59 am
Chase will call down to the others. "There are more villagers out here I think just wondering what was happening. I don't think they are hostile."
Oct 14, 2024 12:38 pm
"Not yet hostile, you mean," Myrtha exclaims from below. Looking at the mess of bodies, she is immediately intrigued by the presence of the sixth body. She rushes to it, and tries to discern what might have caused the last figure's demise.

"Reptile, can you check if Joseph is near the building there?", she added, pointing at the spot where their companion had been spotting for the party. The halfling had been hit, more than once. There might be a trail of blood spatters leading to their comrade.
OOC:
@spaceseeker19, I added no rolls. If any are needed, please roll on my behalf so as to not slow down the pace.

"Such a waste here. I will check up on Joseph." Reptile cleans off his weapon and advances in Joseph's direction.
Oct 14, 2024 5:05 pm
"Take this, Reptile," says Aanbo, giving him the Light stone in the hopes that it will help find the halfling.

He turns to the others and says, "Keep the bodies where they fell, but let's see if there's anything that might identify what sort of evil they represent. I'm thinking the guy who was yelling a lot might have something. And that creature might be what Ramne was referring to: tall, naked, and green." He points to the strange body just outside the barn door. "The villagers will be suspicious of us, so anything we find that can support our truth will help."

The monk heads over to the body of Villager Six, hoping there's something evil on them like a tattoo or symbol.
OOC:
Adding an Investigation check for Villager Six, if needed. Not Aanbo's strength, unfortunately.

Rolls

Investigation - (1d20+1)

(17) + 1 = 18

Oct 14, 2024 7:21 pm
Reptile takes the light and goes to hunt the halfling.
