OOC:
I think you meant Crow.
Aug 23, 2024 12:49 am
As much as Crow would like to create some distance he does not think it will make much of a difference. He stands his ground grateful for being bolstered.
OOC:
Could we get some monster ACs?
Aug 23, 2024 12:55 am
OOC:
@CherokeeWind you just took 2 bonus actions. You can't make the objects in animate objects act as part of casting. You use your action to animate and bonus action to make them act. You then used another bonus action for mantle of inspiration.

Which are you using your bonus action for?
Aug 23, 2024 1:22 am
OOC:
Well shoot! I misunderstood that it the first casting of the spell didn't include movement. The easiest is to disregard the second post and let the first stand alone
Sorry guys!

Thanks, Ma Junior. I did mean Crow and corrected it.
Aug 23, 2024 1:56 pm
The animated objects swirl around the shadow drooling hound. It seems to be unable to dodge all by 2 of the 6 objects. The knight, however, blocks all but 2 of the 4 objects. Its armor seems like plate, but thicker. You aren't sure how much thicker.

The curator screams. "What are you doing! Those objects are worth more than you can understand! If they are damaged..." he seems too stunned to finish, as he hears them bash into things below.
OOC:
@forkbeard you are up.

forkbeard says:
Xcha is terrified by one of the fiendish beasts (sm1), and he can't bring himself to admit it. He replied to Travail, "I'll stay here and fight the monsters to the south, Protect the KING!"

all attacks will be for sm4 until it drops
action -- attack with war hammer,
extra attack with war hammer,
extra attack with war hammer,
action surge attack with war hammer,
save WISDOM

OOC:
As agreed in the OOC thread, as forkbeard is having computer issues but had previously taken his turn too soon, the results of that turn will be used now when it would have been his turn next. I will then have the monsters go.

For the record, his rolls were:
12 for 7 dmg
23 for 7 dmg
25 for 10 dmg
Three was a 4th damage roll, but there were only 3 attacks so I think that was a mistake.

He repeated his wisdom save against the frightened condition, but rolled a 4 and is still frightened of SM1

As he was frightened, the attacks should be at disadvantage, but as the shadow mastiffs' AC is 12 only a nat 1 will miss so I will roll 3d20 below any for every 1 the corresponding attack will miss instead.

Bone Knight
OOC:
Ok, this part might get a bit complicated. Creatures can use their action to shake another within reach out of hypnotic pattern.
Originally BK1/3/4 and SM2/3/4 were affected. BK4 and SM4 took damage, so they are snapped out of it, leaving BK1/3 and SM2/3 still affected.
SM1 will get SM2 free, who will then get BK3 free too, who will use their turn to attack Travail for doing that.
SM4 will take an opportunity attack to move to SM3 and get him free (i'll assume he takes the attack, since he is having computer issues), and SM3 will free BK1, who will attack Travail.
BK2 will attack Xha, and BK4 will attack Hunt.

Few, that was complicated to track, hahaha.
The bone knights notice the impact Travail had and most of them decide to focus him, as he is a dangerous threat. They cast some kind of spell on their weapons and swing at Travail, Xha, and Hunt.
OOC:
I will update Xha's hp for him, so he doesn't miss this. forkbeard, if you see this, you don't have to update your hp. I did it for you.

"Don't attack the stunned ones!" Travail growled as he took savage hit after savage hit! "Hit the ones who aren't moving!"

His options were limited: teleport with the king somewhere safer or try to fascinate the bastards again. Travail called up the eldritch energies within him to once more befuddle his foes, spared himself and his allies again, and sent another otherworldly tentacle to lash any who resisted!

Skeleton Brute

The bone knight that isn't hypnotized yells, "Kill that one. he is more dangerous than the rest combined!" pointing at Travail.
SB1 dashes to O13
SB2 moves to O15 and tries to hit Travail with a heavy slam.
SB3 elects to say where it is to try and kill Crow.
SB4 takes a d6 damage as it jumps down and shakes SM4.

OOC:
ok, I think I'll wait until Monday to roll the saves or until I see hunt and bells also go
Aug 24, 2024 5:10 pm
Sometimes in the heat of battle, Bells would see an image of what would momentarily unfold or maybe it was an echo of the actual event but whatever the case, the bard knew in those moments she was life's composer able to change a crucial note thus changing the whole song.

The bone knight had spoken true stating Travail was a crucial member of their party thus Bells needed to stop the arc of the weapon currently meant to crush past Travail's defenses causing his concentration to break. The power released from the spell, Silvery Barbs, Bells would then be redirected back to the warlock for him to use as he best saw fit.

OOC:
I am usually use to playing with GMs that have failed charm saving throws against me and are a bit flexible with the rules using diagonals and such but you seem that you like to play straight and true so I am unsure if you consider Travail within range. If you do, then I use this action as my reaction and I will still have my turn. Hopefully we can get the momentum moving in our direction.
Aug 24, 2024 7:36 pm
OOC:
when I am playing with people I don't know, I prefer to play rules as written, as that way we are most likely to be on the same page when things come up. As far as diagonals, default 5e movement doesn't cost extra with diagonals, that is an optional rule in the DMG, so to handle verticals I use the longer of that x or y axis movement as the distance, so you are fine.

I actually rolled the rerolls already and hid it, but didn't want to just assume you would cast it. The rerolls is a 23 so it still hits but no crit. As such, the damage was 31, not 56, for a DC or 15, which Travail passed. Hypnotic pattern is still active. @annex please update accordingly. I will reflect this in the next battle info post.

There was a reason that Bells had picked the tiniest objects as she heard the curator complain about his precious collection. Did he not know that animating the dragon head or even that clickty clackity bug was much more Bells style? No one was gasping in terror from a button but the drama that would have ensued around the larger objects would have been epic but most likely resulted in their destruction. "Then bring honor to your scales and defend the museum and king, dragonborn!" Bells unbuckled the rapier that had been hanging under the illusion of her evening gown letting it clang to the ground in easy reach of the museum's director.

The clatter did not cover the sounds below that resumed as another round of attacks started. The larger whirlwind of destruction moved past the mastiff that now looked like a big puppy as it gazed upward with its tongue hanging out to the side to attack the newly arrived Skeleton brute (SB1). The smaller number of items attacked the limping Skeleton brute (SB4) behind them that had landed hard on that ankle.

Bells still had a small trick up her sleeve and she was saving it for that brute who had dared to cause her to bleed. The monster had spoiled her look and THAT was unforgivable! But in the moment of casting, the bard adjusted the spell causing it to land several feet away on the Bone knight (BK2). Being a part of a team meant your partners came first and Travail needed every bit of help he could get.
