OOC:
Note: LMM1's turn comes after Elysia's turn, so it is possible that this action will not happen, depending on what Elysia does this round.
Lord Mayor's Man 1 takes two steps in the room, grunting as missiles hit him, and releases his crossbow toward his target: Elysia! The fusillade of shafts thudding into his body throws off his aim, and the bolt punches into the stone by Elysia's head! He yells: "ALARM! INTRUDERS IN THE LIBRARY! TO ARMS!"
OOC:
Elysia needs to take her turn. It is now also Eozindra's turn for round four.
Ishi, Morik, and Mara can take their round five turns, as all three of them go before the Creature in the Pool.

Rolls

LMM1 chooses a target (Zin, Sia, Adran, Elowin) - (1d4)

(2) = 2

LMM1 crossbow attack on Elysia AC15, piercing damage - (1d20+2, 1d10)

1d20+2 : (9) + 2 = 11

1d10 : (10) = 10

OOC:
Works for me. The fact Mara doesn't need air makes him well-suited to take on an underwater foe.

Rolls

Attack (Force-Empowered Rend) - (2d20H1+3)

(411) + 3 = 14

Damage (Force) - (1d8+2)

(2) + 2 = 4

Crap! Elowin curses and raises her reliquary.
Luna, I'm going to need more help. Expand your embrace of twilight. Protect my friends down here in the bowls of the earth.

Twilight Santuary - (1d6+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

"Why won't this thing die!" He burbled angrily

Rolls

1d20+6 : (12) + 6 = 18

2d6+6 : (24) + 6 = 12

Morik hoped whatever was happening up above was better than how he was faring down here. He continued to attack his grappler, lashing with his claws.

Whatever this creature was, it hurt him enough to revert him back to his dwarven form! Through sheer stubbornness, he reverted back to his bear form again!

OOC:
I didn't roll advantage here for Faerie Fire due to being restrained, but I'm curious, the grappled condition on its own doesn't automatically give a creature the restrained condition, so am I right to assume that Morik is restrained due to some special ability that the creature has that's giving him that condition?

Rolls

Claws (Bear) - Attack - (1d20+6)

(6) + 6 = 12

OOC:
So so so sorry. I got two calls for job interviews this week (one for the county and one for the state) so I’ve been mad prepping. I’ve been unemployed since I was laid off in April. Tomorrow is also my birthday and my family has been bugging me about plans. Tomorrow is also the 1 year anniversary of my grandmother passing. It’s just been real hard to focus and be emotional support for my mom as a bunch of feelings come back up.

Will peek out to shoot at LMM1 then press back into the corner to reload.

Rolls

Crossbow (Hand) - Attack - (1d20+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Crossbow (Hand) - Damage - (1d6+1)

(2) + 1 = 3

OOC:
Yes, correct. For as long as a creature is Grappled by this monster, they are also Restrained.

I will point out, however, that Morik is not a bear anymore. He reverted back to his dwarf form when the bear's HP reached zero, and so has to perform a different action or set of actions than his claw attack. If you decide to do something with a roll attached to it, you can choose to use what you rolled (the 6, adjusted by applicable modifiers) or roll again.

OOC:
No need to apologize. Good luck on the interviews, and may you have a happy birthday tomorrow in the presence, shared laughter, and love of family and friends.
On Tuesday, I saw a person on our street I don't think I'd ever seen before coming out of his car. I was concerned that our bins (which had been left out in the street for pick up) might be blocking him in, so I asked "Do you need me to move those?" He shook his head no, and said "How are you today?"
"I'm fine; how are you?" He nodded, said "My sister lives there," and pointed to the neighbor's house. Then he thought for a bit, and added "I miss your mom."
My mom died 11 years ago, and the grief is still strong, and can come out of nowhere like that.
I sympathize with your loss.

Elysia needs to take her turn.
OOC:
I think that at this point I will post an action for Elysia, so that we can proceed to Round Five.
Sep 20, 2024 12:11 am
Dripping wet, Elysia still has her rapier in hand. Gripping it tightly, she bounds over the edge of the pool and runs at the man aiming his crossbow at her. She runs up and lunges at him as he begins to move. The blade slips between his ribs and emerges again. Almost before he has realized what's happened, she steps away (Cunning Action) and skips back to take cover by the bookcase where her sister Eozindra stands. His fingers spasm, the crossbow bolt thwacks into the stone wall across the room, and then the robber dies, slumping to the floor with a frown on his face.
OOC:
Edited, as I got the order of events wrong when I wrote that. She stabs him, but LMM1 doesn't drop until Adran hits him later in the round. Note that there is no opportunity attack because the robber is wielding a crossbow, not a melee weapon.

Rolls

Elysia rapier attack, damage - (1d20+6, 1d8+4)

1d20+6 : (17) + 6 = 23

1d8+4 : (4) + 4 = 8

Sep 20, 2024 1:36 am
Eozindra sees her sister safe behind her, and releases a bolt in the direction of the only visible foe left standing: LMM2, but the attack goes just wide. The bard ducks back behind the bookcase with Elysia.
[ +- ] The library, end of round four
OOC:
That ends round four. I'll start in on round five shortly.
As we continue, you might find it helpful to recall the Boons that you have from the previous adventures. As I haven't posted yet, you are free to amend/add to your round five turn actions, should you find it desirable to do so.

INITIATIVE
20 - Ishi (24/35) Grappled, Restrained, Underwater
16 - LMM2
15 - Elowin (12/24)
10 - Morik (Dwarf 13/33) Grappled, Restrained, Underwater, Limned by Faerie Fire
8 - Elysia (24/24)
8 - LMM1
7 - Adran (26/26)
7 - Mara (20/20)
7 - Thing - Underwater, Limned by Faerie Fire
1 - Eozindra (15/15)

OOC:
Omg so sorry, I had no idea he got hit hard enough to revert back! Ack! I’ll edit my prev post, but he’ll just use his action to transform back to a bear (really need to meet some underwater creatures for him to wildshape into!)

Also, does being Large give Morik any advantage for being grappled?

No, but between Morik and Ishi, you could coordinate for one of you to use your Boon.

ROUND FIVE
(this is preceded by round four, followed by round six)

Deep in the pool, "Why won't this thing die!" Ishi burbles angrily, air bubbles rising from his mouth as he hacks at the transparent glowing folds engulfing him. The underwater monster takes 12 slashing damage.
Up in the relatively dry part of the library, the battle with the remaining guard rages on. Lord Mayor's Man 2 swiftly pulls, nocks, draws, and looses two more arrows. He tries to retaliate against the rogue who just stabbed his friend (Elysia takes 6 piercing damage), and then sees the cleric chanting and launches an arrow at her (which misses). Then he backpedals and disappears around the corner, out of sight, still yelling for reinforcements. The party can begin to hear distant voices of several other robbers rapidly approaching.
Calling upon her goddess of mystery, magic, and the vault of stars above, Elowin is granted aid to her and her companions. Glittering stardust sparkles momentarily around each of the party members.
Every PC now has 4 temporary HP.
In the depths of the dark pool, surrounded by the glowing folds of the transparent monster, Morik growls and thrashes, transforming back into the form of a bear once more. Restored to his ursine form, Morik savages the monster with his claws. The underwater monster takes 10 slashing damage.
OOC:
Still waiting on Elysia and Adran's turns, here. Everyone in the party not in the pool noticed Elowin's interaction with the book, but at the same time, LMM2 can't have gone far.
Barely holding on with its claws dug into the slippery stone above the yawning pit with an unseen bottom, Mara gnashes and snaps with its jaws again. The underwater monster takes 4 force damage. With that final blow, the monster releases Ishi and Morik and goes limp, sinking flaccidly into the depths until the glow of Lunea's starlight disappears into the distance below them.

Ishi and Morik are no longer Grappled or Restrained, though Morik is still illuminated by Lunea's shimmering presence.
OOC:
Edit because the monster was defeated: I will wait on posting the underwater monster's turn, in case anyone wishes to add to and/or change their turns so that they will use the party's Boon from last adventure. You are welcome to do so; I will post the monster's attack in a few hours (tomorrow).

I forgot that wild shape is only a Bonus Action for Morik, so his claw attack from that last roll should be usable this past round if you’ll allow it.

With the robber backing around the corner before Adran could fire another shot, the elf chooses to wait in position for the reinforcements to arrive.

With Morik's ursine claws, he tears into the underwater monster, dealing 10 slashing damage. So when Mara bites it a moment later, the monster is defeated and goes limp, releasing both Ishi and Morik from its grasp.

Ishi, Mara, and Morik remain 20' underwater, but none of them are Grappled or Restrained (Morik is still limned by Lunea's starlight).

The party is no longer in combat, though it sounds like more people will arrive in several moments, and you could chase Lord Mayor's Man 2 around the corner if you wished. You have time for two turns' worth of actions before they arrive.

What do each of you do?
Sep 25, 2024 6:19 am
Ishi swims to the surface. takes a deep breath and swims to dry land. Then he looks around to see if any body needs help or if any bad guys need killing.
OOC:
I think Ishi has stopped raging for now, but has one more rage before long rest.

Rolls

swim -- athletic (Str) - ( 1d20+6)

(9) + 6 = 15

Perception (wis) - (1d20+6)

(10) + 6 = 16

Sep 25, 2024 6:47 am
Elowin keeps her sanctuary going, but works on getting the book loose from the setting on the bookshelf.
OOC:
Replacement temp hp

Rolls

Twilight Santuary - (1d6+3)

(2) + 3 = 5

Sep 26, 2024 12:27 am
Note that every PC has 5 temporary HP now.

Ishi swims upward and breaks the surface of the pool with a gasp. He hadn't been underwater that long, but it was still a relief to get a breath after half a minute of serious exertion. He smoothly pulled himself out of the pool and looked around to see how everyone else was doing. The only one he can see that is hurt aside from himself was Elysia, who is extracting a crossbow bolt from her side.

Meanwhile, Elowin reaches for the book and swings it back. There is a soft >click< and the whole bookcase shifts slightly. Apparently the book is a trigger to release the locks on this portion of the wall, which can swivel around a central axis.

The secret door is not open, but you can easily push it open noiselessly. The voices of several more robbers are approaching.

What do you do?
Sep 26, 2024 2:57 am
Finally breaking free of the grasp, Morik swam for the surface, desperate for that sweet, sweet air. He wished, not for the last time, that he knew how to turn to an aquatic creature. He'll have to remember that the next time he found a large body of water. He wondered during the brief moment of his ascent whether his companions were still under attack.

Rolls

Athletics - Swim - (1d20+4)

(8) + 4 = 12

Sep 26, 2024 8:58 am
Elowin opens the hidden door and waves over her friend. Perhaps they could avoid another battle.
