OOC:
No, Elowin never stepped there, and Elysia just barely missed it in the dark. After the Hunger of Hadar ended, Lord Mayor's Man Five ended up dying on that spot.

Morik rushes across the Chapel past Ishi, calling out "Live!" to Eozindra. The half-elf bard's nearly-transparent eyelids flutter and open again.
Eozindra gains 7 HP and is no longer dying.
Morik swings his gnarled, leafy branch, clobbering the last remaining robber in the back. Lord Mayor's Man Four takes 11 damage.

Round eighteen, continued...

Staggering from the huge blow to his back, Lord Mayor's Man Four sees black spots for a moment. But the sight of the cleric stabbing his last remaining buddy, Pola, in the back is burned into his mind. Lord Mayor's Man Four is filled with rage, a burning hatred that overwhelms any sense of self-preservation he may have been feeling. He focuses this rage on Elowin, stabbing furiously at her. She is still crouched over Eozindra's body, having set aside her shield, with only her rapier in her hand, still extended from the killing stroke that slew Pola. Lord Mayor's Man's sword plunges into her shoulder, slicing through her collarbone and down.
Elowin takes 7 damage and is dying. Lunea's sickle vanishes like something eclipsed the moon.
The last robber standing yanks out the blade with a fountain of gore and hacks again at her body, his tears blurring his vision. The sword hacks into Elowin's arm, taking her sword hand off midway up her forearm. The rapier lands with a clatter and splatter.
Elowin has one failed death save.
[ +- ] Abbey Battle, the end of Elowin
Elysia looks in shock at Elowin's severed arm lying on the ground at her feet. "N-no...." she says, picking it up gingerly. She looks helplessly at her sister Eozindra, who is blinking on the floor, and takes a step toward the dying cleric...
OOC:
It is Eozindra and Adran's turn. Remember that this is how Elowin's journey ends. LMM4 stands there, wide-eyed, with the bloody sword in his hand.

I want in!
The bard shrieks out a gasp as she awakens in the lap of Elowin. Eozindra continues her audible reactions with a horrified scream as she sees the gore tearing apart the elf who tried to protect her. Terrified purple eyes brim with tears as she tries to apply pressure to the savage wound.

"No! No, no no…" Focusing her attention behind closed eyes, the half-elf tries desperately to send healing energies from herself but finds that she is exhausted from the day already. "I can’t, I just… I can’t … I…"

She continues to babble as she looks mournfully up to Adran, tears streaking pale lines across her gore splattered cheeks.

A moment of realization hits her as she sees the man beside the devastated brother.

"You!" She leaps to her feet and pulls the twin daggers from her hips, attempting to re-sheathe them both within the remaining monster’s chest.
OOC:
Two weapon fighting: When you take the Attack action on your turn and attack with a Light weapon, you can make one extra attack as a Bonus Action later on the same turn. That extra attack must be made with a different Light weapon, and you don't add your ability modifier to the extra attack's damage unless that modifier is negative. For example, you can attack with a Shortsword in one hand and a Dagger in the other using the Attack action and a Bonus Action, but you don't add your Strength or Dexterity modifier to the damage roll of the Bonus Action unless that modifier is negative.

Oh look. There are some decent rolls.

Eozindra plunges her daggers into Lord Mayor's Man Four's chest. His look of triumph is replaced by one of bewilderment.
Lord Mayor's Man Four takes 6 damage and dies.

With all the enemies defeated, the combat encounter has ended at last, with the power of the Lord Mayor's Men robber gang broken, their leader vanquished. The sense of relief in victory is leavened with grief as the group gathers around their dying companion...there is a growing sense of tension as each of you feels a vast, dark, cold presence in the room with you.
OOC:
At this point, let's transition into the characters reacting to the loss of Elowin as she lays there, dying. Each character - including Elowin - can say their goodbyes. As a group you can come up with reasons that she isn't getting saved/spared from dying as you like.

20 - Ishi (9/35) one success, two failures
18 - Lord Mayor's Men Five and Eight
15 - Elowin (0/24) Dying one failure
13 - Lord Mayor's Men Three, Six, and Nine
10 - Morik (Dwarf 15/33) two failures
10 - Lord Mayor's Men Two, Four, and Seven
8 - Elysia (7/24) two successes
3 - Lord Mayor
1 - Eozindra (7/15) one failure
1 - Adran (18/26)
1 - Mara

Elowin is on the floor gasping. Her hand is grasped around some around her neck.
Adran - take care of Ishi.

Luna is calling me hom...

She doesn't have breath to finish the sentence. Her hand slumps down revealing the reliquary she have been carrying. Its a piece of metal within a glass cylinder. That piece of star metal was the resting place for the temple where Adran and Elowin grew up.

I need someone to give Adran a reason not to cast his last spell to heal his own sister.

I know rune wants to change characters, and I'm not trying to stop that, but from an IC standpoint he would absolutely save her. So, a little help?

Adran it hurts... Elowin fights the pain, but its getting hard and harder to fight.

I... I see Lunas night sky she says wistfully.

No, there is no moon here - just empty night. It's cold! There is panic in her voice now.
Adrans healing magic flows through her but something isn't right.
Something got me! Elowins eyes turn milky white and she frantically grabs the reliquary she has been carrying. Its a piece of metal within a glass cylinder. That piece of star metal was the resting place for the temple where Adran and Elowin grew up.
She starts to pray. Holy mother, maiden and cro... The a different voice takes over and Elowin is wrecked in pain as the words are forced through her mouth.

"They have deprived me of my servant. I will take you as recompense."

"You are a puny thing, but amusing. I am satisfied with this trade."

"Say farewell to your companions before you depart."

"Pledge fealty to me and know my power. Refuse and suffer the consequences."

Elowin gasps. I can't...
I am dauther of the moon. AAH!

She grasps the nearest hand, trying to anchor herself to this world, this place, deep under ground away from the trees and the moon.

Adran's voice is deafeningly quiet. "Listen to me, you insufferable cosmic stain... let my sister go, or know that I will spend my life hunting down your true form to force you to release her. You will know no rest, and you will keep your minions only as long as it takes me to find them. Make your choice, but remember it well because a day will come when you will be painfully reminded of this meeting. I will destroy everything I am and everything I know, so long as I destroy you with it. It will take time... but eventually, yours will run out."

The oppressive sense of the cold, unfeeling emptiness fades and your breaths come easier. Elowin's body relaxes and then shimmers as a sparkle of starlight plays across her body. She is dead, her reliquary in her one remaining hand and a small smile on her face, looking very much at peace. After a shocked moment, Elysia moves closer to Adran, feeling sympathy in her own sadness and wanting to comfort him, but not knowing how.

great scene
Nov 10, 2024 5:37 pm
Adran finds some solace in the glimmer of moonlight, determined to find another of Lunea's followers to attempt to verify that his sister had truly passed peacefully. Reaching down to pick up Elowin's reliquary, Adran closes his hand on his sisters and holds it silently. Kneeling beside her with his eyes closed and her hand in his, seconds tick by in almost oppressive silence.

Eventually, Adran releases his sister's hand and as he pulls his own back he is holding her reliquary. For the moment, he pockets it securely and stands to collect the pieces of Mara. Bringing them next to the body of Elowin, he sits down.

"We need to rest." The comment is simple, analytical. The tone is subtly different than normal. This has not been Adran's best day.
Nov 11, 2024 5:22 am
Morik rushed over to Elowin’s side, calling for healing magic, but it failed just the same as all the attempts of the others to bring her health back. He stayed by her side, but left the comforting and holding hands to her brother Adran.

It was a hard fought battle. Morik himself had to be yanked back from the brink of death, and though they emerged victorious, it felt like nothing but a loss. He wiped away his tears silently, and mourned the loss of a companion, for it was her time to go back to the earth.

"Farewell, and find peace at home and hearth."
