Within Lighting Keep

This room contains a desk and chair positioned in front of a frosted window. The desk has two drawers with locks, one open and one closed. Flickering red light emanates from the open drawer.

Dusty bookshelves span the far wall; empty except a single leather-bound tome leans at one end of the highest shelf. A rolling ladder covered with cobwebs puts the book within easy reach. This room like the others you’ve seen shows signs of long abandonment, dust, stale air, and the occasional lightning outside the only light source.

Wandering Kurt mosses over to the desk checking out what the red light is coming from.

Grim will climb up and check the book and see if there might be a rod laying on one of the shelves.

Kurt inside desk's open drawer is a red jem that's warm to the touch, and is the source of the flickering red light.

Grim nothing but the book is found on the shelves. Inscribed on the book's spine in silver ink is the title, Moonlight Dance. The book has a tattered cloth bookmark with a steel needle stuck in it.

Grim will take the book down and open to see if he can read it.

Rangrim the book, is in common. It's written by an unknown mystery writer. From the pages you flip through you gather it is a piece of detective fiction claiming to be based on a true story. In the story, a tiefling investigator named Dagger Sharp tries to solve the murders of several villagers in the hamlet of Briar's End.

"If that gem was in the open drawer, what might be in the closed one," Alex says firmly as he steps into the room and tries to open the closed drawer.

"That bookmark, could I have a look at it, Grim?"

On Looking Kurt notes, "It does look to be an innocent gem." He picks it up to examine it closely.

As he holds the glowing red gem up for all of the party to view, "This is surely magical. Anyone here can fathom what it is?"

Grim will hand the bookmark over to Erani "Sure, here you go."

I take the needle out of the bookmark and examine it.

Grim can attempt to use Arcana to see if he thinks the gem is magical. To discover the properties of a magic item Identify must be used on it.
