"Can anyone help me with this locked drawer?" Alex asks a little disappointed that he couldn't get it open by himself.
Oct 24, 2024 12:10 am
Grim looks to Alex"I can always smash it with my hammer."
Oct 24, 2024 7:48 am
"Well, if there is anything of value in there, you might smash that too, I was thinking more of a gentle touch," Alex replies with a chuckle and wry smile.
OOC:
@mathias0077 now I am thinking of the Emperor's New Groove. I put him in a box, then a bigger box, then an even bigger box and ship him to myself and when he gets here, I smash him with a Hammer!

OOC:
anything unusual about the needle I took from the bookmark? Do you need an ability check?

Kurt says to Alexander, "Here is a hammer and piton. You can take out the lock." He gets time out of his pack to offer.

Erani a arcana check please to examin the needle

Arcana check

Rolls

Arcana check - (1d20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18

Erani there is something magical about the needle. It seems to pulse a bit in your fingertips as you examine it.
Oct 25, 2024 9:57 am
"Maybe the needle is a key for the lock."
Oct 25, 2024 4:54 pm
"Physically, a needle resembles a lightning rod, does it not? We've already seen a number of clever disguises. Anyone happen to have a spell that identifies magic items?"

OOC:
I want to confirm that the latter option is available to us as not all DM's allow a short rest to be used in this fashion.
[ +- ] Identifying Magic Items.
Alex will try to tap the lock out with the hammer and piton from Kurt.
OOC:
Athletics check just another is needed.

Rolls

Athletics - (1d20-1)

(5) - 1 = 4

OOC:
I allow the attempt to identify a magic item during a short rest with an arcana rol, with ADC at 15 to identify it and all of its properties. The assumption that rolling that 15 means that the character would have heard/read of it or something like it before. I don't really like the whole idea of just sitting with something for an hour and you know everything about it. It doesn't feel very realistic to me, so I'm mean and you have to do the roll.

Alex, the drawer makes a high squeaking sound but does not break.
OOC:
you can roll again with the hammer and piton the DC is only five

Alex vs the drawer.

Rolls

Athletics - (1d20-1)

(16) - 1 = 15

I put the needle and the bookmark away in my pouch for when we decide to take a short rest.

This drawer contains an unlocked wooden coffer, the lid of which bears a steel insignia depicting a wolf's head with three lightning bolts above it. Inside the coffer are thirty rings made of blue jade.
Oct 27, 2024 11:47 pm
Alex hands the hammer and piton back, then he will take the coffer and examine one of the rings more closely, looking for any identifying marks or writing as to distinguish the nature of the rings themselves. "What an interesting find. Rings made of blue Jade. Quite valuable on their own but perhaps there is something more to them."
Oct 28, 2024 2:03 pm
Onlooking Kurt mentions, "Sweet find. " as he puts away his play toys (Hammer & piton) back to his backpack.
Oct 29, 2024 12:06 am
"Those look interesting. Never seen blue jade before."
Oct 29, 2024 12:26 am
Alex you see that somewhere on the inside curve of each of the rings is the wolf's head with three lightning bolts above it.
