OOC:
ChrSch -- not the GM, of course, but I'm sure if you describe what you want to do, Esidrix (and the rest of us) can suggest what to roll and when.
In a scene like this, where we have a turn order, and every little move counts, you get one action and one maneuver per turn. A maneuver is something like drawing a weapon, aiming a weapon, moving a short distance, opening a door, taking cover in the tree roots, etc. An action is anything that requires a roll and a few random things that come from your Talents if you have them. You can always trade your action for a second maneuver if you want (so if you need to pick up your blaster and run, say. Or you can do action + free maneuver + extra maneuver by taking 2 strain.
In your case, it looks like you moved to a tree (maneuver) and took cover in the roots (maneuver). If you also wanted to do an action, like firing on the creatures, you would need to suffer 2 strain.
Does that make sense?
