Now you see me

Creds nods to Zailor. "That should be Tomin over there." The Lutrillian leads the way and addresses the explorer. "Howdy, gentle-being! The fine attendant over there pointed me and my client here your way. Said you were the best of the best when it comes to finding places others seem to have forgotten all about. If that's so, we might be in the market for some forgotten tech, if that sorta thing is in your wheelhouse, of course."
OOC:
Damn. The Gamers Plane gods have welcomed me back from vacation in style! If that roll was truly necessary, maybe he spent some time on Lutrillia, had a blast, but hasn't seen anyone from there in ages--so he's Creds' new best friend. The second Triumph could mean he's under pressure of some sort, so it makes him much more amenable to working with us. Advantages would be for boosts to any other rolls against him.

Of course, happy to ignore the roll if it wasn't necessary!

She nods at Ken's question. "Yes, the Fananeen system was one of the ones that I thought of. This happens frequently enough where someone makes a find, our member updates our catalog and the person with the find brags about it when they get home. Not long after, folks show up wanting to visit the same place."

Tomin turns to Creds. Smiling, he holds out his hand. "Well sir, you have come to the right place. Lost worlds re-discovered, wealth forgotten becomes found and populates your pockets. Do you have a destination in mind or just forgotten tech in general?

OOC:
Those dice always seem to produce Triumphs when they're not really needed. But that was definitely a powerful roll.

Creds looks to Sailor. "We're interested in a recent discovery we heard about. What was that place again? Fibergeen? Flabbaneen? Fantabean?"

Tomin chuckles as Creds lists off the planet names. "I'm sure you mean Fananeen. Always so amusing, we're bound by contract not to discuss which client went to which planet and what, if anything, they find. Yet, the clients themselves typically brag about their 'discoveries'. Rarely do big finds go without bringing more treasure seekers. The member that updated the records did a wonderful job downplaying that trip as boring. But your presence here suggests there was something worth bragging about."

'So why hasn't this find on Faneen already been picked clean?' asks Ken, wondering whether there are additional threats that might keep others away.
Jan 11, 2025 7:21 pm
Creds smiles at the Ocsin. "I'm a lawyer myself, so I appreciate the importance of keeping the client's doings private. Let's just say that my associate and I've heard rumors that this Fananeen and ancient tech caches may be connected." The Lutrillian shrugs. "So what'cha think? Someone like you maybe able to show us where we might find something like that? Or maybe introduce us to someone itching to offload some of what was found?"

Doana shrugs a little at Ken's question, "The routes we chart are temporary, we update the records about how we got there, but this is still uncharted space. Lots of times ships come back damaged from a miscalculation or don't come back at all. Known space has hundreds or thousands of ships traveling to each planet almost daily. The navicomputers share their data and observations to the spaceport when they land, so everyone has the latest information fairly quickly. We have planets out there that have been visited once by an Oscin, others have seen ten visits in as many years. The earliest entry on Fananeen is from fifty years ago, the second entry was six months ago. From what the notes say, it took them 4 months and nearly 50 jumps to find a route there. Most treasure seekers don't have the cash or patience to tromp around wildspace for months. None of that even addresses the pergil, space worms, mynocks, rogue comets or solar storms that like to pop up and eat you."

"Fananeen you say. That's interesting." He looks around the room to see who's hanging around. "I know the scout who ran that one, said the client was completely exasperated by how long the whole thing took, months if I remember right. They landed, refueled and practically blasted out of here. Seems they were in a huge hurry to get out of CSA space and back to familiar sectors. He did say it was some old tech cache, but that's not in the notes, since we're officially not supposed to report on what the clients find. Technically there's some Imperial law, probably been laying around since the Republic about treasure finds and claim rights. We honor that stuff, but if the finder never files a claim and spills the info at some bar, there's nothing to stop us from guiding you right to the spot. As long as the credits are good, of course."

Doana Ndral says:
"The routes we chart are temporary, we update the records about how we got there, ...
"Curious, if hired, could you make this data available to me? Perhaps a more expedient, yet still reasonably safe route could be found."
Jan 12, 2025 3:48 pm
'That makes sense. How long do you think it would take us to get to Faneen. And...' he grins, 'Why should we go with you rather than Laeed Tomin over there?' He gestures to his Creds and Zailor who are in deep conversation.
Jan 13, 2025 1:41 pm
She turns her head to AD-HOC, "Of course, we'll be using your ships navicomputer and sensors. All the data we collect along the way will be yours. I keep a copy of general directions and jump points for our notes, anything more precise would be wasted, unless someone was heading back almost immediately."

Looking back to Ken, "Considering our information is fresh, for wildspace at least, I'd say less than a month, maybe only a couple weeks. As for who you pick, Laeed's not a bad choice. Despite his tendency for self-promotion he's one of the better astrogators we have. He's very much a numbers man once he get's to work, I lean more towards intuition, some routes just feel right."
Jan 13, 2025 10:25 pm
'I like it', says Ken - pointing the finger of one hand towards Tomin - 'All numbers like AD-hoc here' - and then pointing the other hand in a pistol shape at Ndral he says 'And you're more intuition - flying by the feeling.' He gives AD-hoc a friendly punch which ends up hurting his spindly fingers rather more than he was expecting.

'We'll regroup with our crew and get back to you with a decision...but for me, I'm a flying by the seat of my pants kind of a guy so you get my vote!' He backs away finger gunning before colliding with AD-hoc, exchanging whispers, and sheepishly walking back to ask about her rates of pay. 'You know the droids, all numbers like I said.'
Jan 13, 2025 10:36 pm
Not being much of a negotiator Zailor leaves the details up to Creds.
Jan 13, 2025 11:00 pm
AD-hoc replies with a quote he's overheard in the past, likely from some Muun in the Banking Clan "One accurate measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions."
Jan 15, 2025 4:09 am
Creds sees AD-hoc and Ken heading his way, so he asks Tomin one more question: "So, finding one of these routes... I'm guessing that's one way to find this fabled tech. But what about the folks that already found it? Any idea where they might be putting their loot up for sale? A bird in the hand and all that, right, friend?"

Tomin chuckles, "Oh I agree, it's easier to buy it than go dig for it. But unfortunately, as I mentioned, they took off for the greater galaxy immediately and I never even saw the client."

Amused by Ken's flustered re-approach, "Contracts are handled at the front, there's a first month upfront and then a smaller additional months fee as needed."

"Ah, yes. And no one can say who they were due to confidentiality," Creds says, somber-faced. "Thank you kindly, friend. I'll touch base with my colleagues and get back to you shortly." With a handshake, the Lutrillian nods to Zailor that they should rejoin the others.
Jan 16, 2025 8:44 pm
Regrouping with the others - Ken recounts what Ndral has told them and advocates for recruiting her as their guide. 'Sounds like rates are fixed so it's down to who we trust - and my gut says Ndral'.
