Now you see me

"I would be fine with either choice. I have grater interest in the data they can provide than the intuition of their innards." AD-hoc says
Jan 17, 2025 8:19 pm
Creds chuckles. "Rates are never truly fixed in my experience. But sounds like our tech flew the coop. What's our goal -- to hunt it back down, or to strike out looking for our own claim? Might be easier to hunt down the last find rather than spend months hunting down a new one."
OOC:
Not advocating one approach or the other; just trying to get a sense on what y'all want to do.
Jan 18, 2025 12:51 am
Hmm, it sounds like a bit of a hunt either way. Count me in.
Jan 20, 2025 8:55 pm
'Sounds to me like they didn't manage to get much. If there's a big facility on Faneen we could take our time and pick up some really valuable salvage. I say we go exploring. That last cache is probably long sold by now. Let's get there before anyone else learns about it and comes looking.'

OOC:
Besides, exploring new words sounds more fun!
Jan 21, 2025 12:38 am
"I agree. Based on the information we have, going to Faneen is likely the most profitable plan of action. Although I have no pending obligations, I understand if other do. We could be gone for months."
Jan 24, 2025 4:44 pm
Creds purses his jowls for a moment. "I've always wanted to dip my toes into Discovery Law. I could see myself making a name for myself helping clients—such as yourselves—lay claim to what they find. I'm in." He juts a thumb back toward the explorers. "So who we go with? Tomin's got a good head on his shoulders, but Ndral's got the guts. Maybe we see who'll charge us the least?"
Jan 25, 2025 8:40 pm
'Ndral implied the rates are fixed - but why don't you see if you can negotiate us a...discount?'
Jan 29, 2025 6:44 pm
"I suppose hring them both is out of the question? Although if they are just using information from a shared database, there would be no point."
Jan 30, 2025 4:39 pm
Creds tells the others he'll scope things out. He returns to the person at the front desk and asks, "So, my colleagues and I have decided to hire an explorer. What's the process? How do we know the going rate?"
Jan 31, 2025 2:42 pm
The Ocsin behind the counter smiles and produces a pre-printed rate card. "As you can see, the typical rates are a deposit of 10,000 credits before you leave. Pro-rated if you return in less than one month. There will be an additional monthly charge that's usually 4,000 credits for each month past the first, due when you return. Also, once you pick an Explorer to contract with, I'll have a sidebar with them to gauge their interest, that can affect the rates as well."
OOC:
Let me know your pick, lay it on thick and give me your roll, I assume Negotiation but if otherwise, I'll adjust and then I'll roll his opposed roll. :)
Jan 31, 2025 9:48 pm
OOC:
Am I negotiating with this middle-man, or the explorers themselves?
Feb 1, 2025 1:09 am
OOC:
With the middle man - Which ever explorer you choose, he'll check their interest level, which affects base price. But your Negotiation roll (if that's what you go with) will make the difference.
Feb 3, 2025 10:00 pm
"Makes sense," Creds says. "I'm happy to chat directly with our explorer of choice, of course. Would that work? Maybe save you a bit of trouble? Or is there some wiggle room on some of those fees if we work with you? Maybe cut you in on some of what we bring back?"
OOC:
Not sure how much leverage we have if they have a mandatory third-party negotiator, but here goes. What difficulty?
Feb 4, 2025 12:51 am
OOC:
Negotiation is an opposed roll.

Rolls

Explorers guild front desk guy

3 Success, 3 Advantage

Total: 3 Success, 3 Advantage

Feb 5, 2025 5:40 pm
OOC:
Rolling! Cultural Etiquette Manual adds +1 advantage. If I'm understanding right, my opposed roll will be against RRP. But let me know if you meant to use the YYG you rolled instead. Looks like a botched roll either way, even with +1 advantage!

Rolls

Negotiation

1 Success, 1 Advantage, 1 Failure, 4 Threat

Total: 3 Threat

OOC:
Opposed is both people roll and you cancel out the results. So the Explorer guild guy's roll is Stands at 2 success + 1 advantage over you. Which explorer were you guys picking?

OOC:
Ndral.
Feb 7, 2025 1:31 pm
After some back and forth with a brief pause for him to consult with Ndral, you manage to settle on the base rates. He presents you with the contract for 10,000cr. now and 4,000cr. per additional month, due if you return later than the first month.
Feb 10, 2025 7:57 pm
Creds raises his brows at the unmodified price. "I see," His tone is cool, detached. "So remind me again why we have to go through you?"
Feb 11, 2025 12:32 am
"Cut to the chase is it." The Ocsin smiles, seemingly not offended by Creds's tone. "It's a guild, or Labor Union if you like. Some of these explorers are eager puppies desperate to go galivanting off into the unknown. Some of them would do it for free, just to do it. Others are much shrewder negotiators than me. Heck, Tomin is twice the shark I pretend to be. If he ran the place, rates would be double, but business would be non-existent. I try and take care of my people, we set rates so all of our people can live and our prices stay reasonable enough that we have clients. Sure there's some wiggle room, especially if one of our explorers shows some interest or lack of for a particular trip. Ndral seems interested in this trip, on average, she has the shortest time in the field of anyone. I'm betting your back really close to that first month and if there's anything to find, you should be credits ahead. On that front, I do have arrangements with the Trade House. In case you come back with something your not sure how to move or even if you have something lying around you need to move before the trip. People often come out here to trade, us being on the edge of civilization, we have all kinds of needs the coreward folks take for granted."
OOC:
I like the roleplay - just making sure, the price is because Ndral is interested, but you blew the roll, so it averaged out.
