I see my character but not yours. I don't see a characters tab.

So on the saves say fortitude you have a str-8 and a con-14 you would use your str score and then roll at/over that?
Oct 5, 2024 6:00 pm
Yes and no. You use your lower of the two, but you're still trying to roll under. 1 is the best here. So with the smaller number, you have less of a range to succeed.

Wait, I'm a little confused by something I read in the rules. We're trying to roll under, but a 1 is a failure and a 20 is a success. Is that a typo?
Oct 5, 2024 9:37 pm
Yeah 1 is still crit fail and 20 a crit... Seems like an obvious shortcoming but same 5% chance of either I suppose
Oct 5, 2024 10:35 pm
It's a roll under system but 1 is critical failure and 20 is critical success, it doesn't make sense to me, I never liked that about this game... just a small criticism
Oct 5, 2024 10:56 pm
Yeah it's counterintuitive and unnecessary but at least it doesn't screw us mathematically

I've actually spoken to the designer of the game. He could not get over the thing about 20 being the critical success, which is why he included it in the rules as such. We will house rule it as 1 is the critical success. (10 is also a critical success if the ability is 14 or higher). And 20 is a critical failure.

Since the majority prefer to do their cellbreak scenes in the game, we will start the game with solo sessions for everyone in their cells. Once you're free of the cells, you will just need to escape the dungeon, but at least you will no longer be in cells. I will probably begin posting these tomorrow after work just in case anyone else has any questions about their characters, or the game in general.

Nice

And... we're off. Ahead of time, I apologize if I get a little railroady. If I assume something about your character or character backstory that needs to be corrected, please let me know.

As some of you may have noticed, I like to let the narrative, along with your characters' actions, drive the story. There’s nothing more disheartening, in my view, than a well-roleplayed action that leads to nothing. With that in mind, I aim to stick to the rules as written, as this system is quite elegant (aside from a few exceptions I’ve mentioned, such as 1s being critical successes and 20s being critical failures).

However, I also believe that if your character’s actions genuinely push the story forward in a dramatic and pulpy manner, you’ll make progress—something will happen to advance the story, even if just a little. While I’m not exactly calling this the "Rule of Cool," I do think good roleplaying, especially in a sword-and-sorcery setting, should be rewarded with new opportunities to further shape the narrative.

Was that the right way to respond or are we suppose to keep in notes?

I recommend keeping individual scenes in notes, to prevent other players from being confused. But that's just me.

Okay, changed it

I can't remember the last time I had so many high rolls in a row.

Yes, Hambul and Kruul have met in the corridors; how you choose to react is up to you. I attempted to describe each of you as an encounter to the best of my ability. Hambul was about to charge Kruul, and Kruul sees Hambul about to charge him.

Kruul responded to Hambul... Can you not see it? I did it as a private note to both the DM and Ricardoi91...

I think the issue is that it was seen and caused confusion, but I'm not sure for certain.
