As Hambul deftly rolled out of the path of an oncoming blow, the skeletal’s black iron blade whistled through the air, missing its mark by mere inches. From the shadows, Oral surged forward, his instincts pushing him into the fray despite the chaos. Desperation flickered in his movements as he interposed himself between the skeletal and Hambul, his own weapon raised to block the strike. The skeletal’s unnatural strength, however, proved overwhelming. Oral managed to deflect part of the blow, but the blade still pierced through, its cruel edge slicing into him with a cold, malevolent force.

A sharp gasp escaped Oral’s lips as the skeletal twisted its blade with mechanical precision, the motion causing the wound to tear further. Pain rippled through his body as he staggered back, clutching at the injury. The skeletal’s hollow, grinning visage remained unfeeling, its unblinking gaze locked onto its prey as though savoring the agony it inflicted. The dry, rasping sound of its hollow breath mixed with an eerie clicking noise, echoing unnaturally in the chamber. The remaining skeletals, still clutching their black iron blades, emitted similar sounds, their cold, rasping clicks resembling a chorus of chilling, mirthless chuckles—mockery given form.

Kruul, undeterred by the growing danger, swung one of the skeletal’s own black iron blades with savage ferocity. Yet his strike, though powerful, was wild and imprecise, glancing harmlessly off the creature’s shoulder and leaving him exposed. The skeletal capitalized on the barbarian’s error with alarming speed, driving its blade into his chest with unholy strength. Kruul’s roar of defiance turned into a guttural snarl of pain as the icy coldness of the dark magic coursing through the blade seemed to seep into his very blood. The wound was deep, the force far more punishing than any normal blow.

The air in the chamber grew heavier, colder, as though the Nightqueen’s presence was seeping into the battlefield. Each breath felt labored, the faint greenish glow from the chandelier above now appearing sickly and oppressive. Hambul gripped his weapon tighter, his expression grim as he watched both Oral and Kruul reel from their injuries. Whatever dark force animated these creatures, it seemed to be growing stronger, their blows now carrying a palpable, unnatural weight. The tide of the battle was shifting, and survival seemed increasingly uncertain as the skeletal warriors pressed their relentless advance.
OOC:
Mahluk and Demon are up, then start of next round. Those of you with Resolve, which I think is all of you right now, may soon need to use it to temper the storm.

Rolls

Damage to Oral - (1d6+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

As Oral gasps at the pain he looks up and croaks out "I think we to take out the chandelier."

"Strike at the heart of these skeletal abominations," cries out the copper-skinned man, still on the floor! He tears at his clothes as he pushes his summoned demon onwards! But demons answer to no man, no matter how powerful they are in sorcery. The foul beast refuses to follow orders, and instead makes a mockery show of combat.

How high up is the chandelier? Could I throw my sword at it?
Dec 20, 2024 3:14 am
OOC:
You can throw your sword at it. It's hovering 10 to 12 feet over the floor. The skeletals are currently the only ones in the middle of the room that would be caught by the blast if you wanted to try to bring it down. This is not a nigh impossible feat, but if you wanted to use Resolve to accomplish it, I would allow the roll to be made with additional advantage.

OOC:
So will I be using my Dex for this?
Dec 20, 2024 5:05 pm
OOC:
is the act of using resolve to heal a full round action or can I still attack?
Dec 24, 2024 11:41 pm
OOC:
Hmm, throwing an iron sword would probably be a Strength check. If you were throwing a small steel weapon, I would allow Dexterity, but Iron is a bit heavier.

Using Resolve to heal is an immediate action and not considered a full round action, according to the rules of By This Axe I Hack. Therefore, you may still perform other actions during your turn, including attacking.

OOC:
I will just attack then.
I will use a resolve point to heal first. Then attack.

Those were some nice rolls, from everyone involved. A much better swing of events than the last round.
The tide of battle shifted as the heroes steeled themselves, their resolve hardening against the relentless undead. Oral, gritting his teeth through the searing pain of his wounds, pushed past the agony with sheer willpower. He focused his mind, his sharp instincts telling him that the injuries, while deep, were not as debilitating as they had initially seemed. His fingers tightened around the hilt of his blade, a flicker of determination lighting in his eyes as he prepared to rejoin the fray.

Beside him, Kruul rolled his shoulders, the strain in his muscles eased slightly by the swift, deep inhalations of the warrior’s method, channeling air to steady his body and mind. His chest rose and fell with controlled intensity as he tuned out the sting of his injuries, transforming pain into fuel for his rage. The barbarian cast a feral glance at the remaining skeletals, his grip tightening on the weapon he held as the thrill of combat surged within him.

With a shared glance of determination, the two launched themselves back into the fight. Kruul’s black iron blade smashed into one skeletal with bone-shattering force, the sound of cracking ribs and splintering vertebrae reverberating through the chamber. The undead creature crumbled under his ferocious assault, its iron blade clattering uselessly to the ground. At the same time, Oral moved with precision and speed, his movements a blend of agility and raw determination. His strike was unyielding, slamming into another skeletal and driving it back with enough force to scatter its brittle bones into the flickering green glow.

The remaining skeletals retaliated, their black iron blades swinging with the same cold, mechanical ferocity. Yet this time, their strikes found no mark. Kruul, moving with surprising speed for his size, sidestepped an incoming attack, the blade slicing harmlessly through the air. Oral, his movements fluid despite his injuries, ducked under a second blow, the blade narrowly missing him as it struck the stone wall with a sharp clang. The heroes had found their rhythm, their coordination and determination outpacing the relentless but predictable movements of their foes.

The dim green light from the bone chandelier above flickered ominously, casting distorted shadows over the scene as the fight raged on. The shattered remains of fallen skeletals littered the floor, and the heroes stood tall amid the chaos, their resolve bolstered by their recent success. For the first time, the battle seemed to shift in their favor, their tenacity and skill proving stronger than the dark force animating their enemies.
OOC:

With a roar of defiance, Kruul surged forward, the heavy black iron blade gripped tightly in his calloused hands. The weapon, once wielded by their skeletal foes, felt almost alive with the lingering touch of dark magic, its weight more than physical—a reminder of the Nightqueen’s twisted power. Beside him, Oral darted forward, his movements a blur of desperation and determination, the grim resolve of survival etched across his features.

Kruul’s strike came first, a devastating horizontal swing that smashed into the jaw of a skeletal warrior with bone-crushing force. The impact sent the creature reeling, its lower jaw shattering into fragments that clattered across the stone floor. Its glowing eye sockets flickered, as though momentarily stunned by the sheer power of the barbarian’s onslaught. Kruul did not pause, his next strike cleaving downward with savage precision, driving the skeletal into a heap of splintered bone and decayed remnants.

Oral moved in tandem, his lighter frame allowing him to slip past the defensive arc of the second skeletal’s blade. With the iron sword held high, he delivered a heavy blow that struck the undead directly at the shoulder. The force of the impact sent cracks spiderwebbing through its brittle frame, and with a final, desperate push, Oral smashed the skeletal into pieces. Its fragments scattered across the room, the black iron blade falling to the floor with a hollow clang, its dark aura fading as the unholy energy animating it dissipated.

The chamber fell eerily silent, the echoes of battle gradually fading into the oppressive air. Kruul stood tall, his chest heaving from exertion, the blood from his earlier wounds staining his tattered garments but failing to dim the fire in his eyes. Oral, though battered and weary, straightened with a faint smirk, his blade still held at the ready as he scanned the room for any lingering threats. The shattered remains of their enemies lay scattered across the floor, a grim testament to their hard-won victory.

The flickering green light from the bone chandelier cast long shadows over the battlefield, highlighting the jagged fragments of bone and the discarded black iron blades. The two warriors, prisoners no longer in spirit, shared a brief nod of mutual respect. For now, they had overcome the darkness and claimed a moment of triumph in a place where hope seemed all but extinguished.

Combat Ends.
