Douklan groans with pain but manages to squeeze off another shot with his plasma projector at the demon.
OOC:
Edit: that's probably going wide.
Douklan HP: 14/45

I will move in to be the target, but would prefer not to, as I have 19 hp and can't get any more healing. But I do have a higher AC.

OOC:
Who is/are the target(s) of the next attacks?
Note: TPK is a possibility for this "boss" fight.

1d8 Who? Why?
1-4 Douklan Caused the most wounds (24)
5-6Mercer The only one who hit this round
7Corbin Missed but...
8Hank Missed but...

Corbin voice broke through the comms, flat with disbelief.
Corbin says:
"What the fuck did you guys find?"
He didn’t wait for an answer. Bringing his laser rifle to bear, Corbin fired—but the shot went wide, hissing past the creature’s shoulder and gouging into the far wall.
OOC:
2 damage to the monster
Hank let off another burst. The laser pulses lit the corridor like a strobe—but once again, the hulking monster avoids the worst of it, the rounds burning into metal and debris instead.

Mercer, gritting his teeth, stepped out just far enough to line up a shot and fired. His burst struck center mass, searing into the creature’s chest. It jerked with the impact, but didn’t stop moving.
OOC:
9 damage to it
Douklan popped up from behind the lab counter, sweat-slick and trembling, and fired his plasma projector. The glowing bolt surged toward the beast—but at the last second, it twisted its massive frame and the blast splashed harmlessly against the wall behind.

Then the monster raised its hand again, and heat shimmered in the air around Douklan.

Douklan flinched, bracing for the fire—but it didn’t come. The thing snarled in confusion. Whatever it had tried to do, it hadn’t worked. Maybe something changed?
OOC:
What do you do?

OOC:
All right everyone, I think we need to be clever. Ideas?
May 10, 2025 3:01 pm
OOC:
I dunno; I don't think we have time to come up with any clever ideas. This thing makes two ranged attacks every round and it doesn't need to see its targets to hit them. So we can't run away to regroup; it'll just kill us. We could investigate to get more information about it, but that will take time that we don't have: it'll just kill us. It does seem to have a fire theme, so if there was a way to apply coolant or to snuff the fire somehow, I'd be all for it. There is the "Cold Storage" nearby, but with the monster in between that room and Douklan, it might as well be light years away. Also I'm not sure how that could help - it might take time to figure out (how did this station set up a cold environment? Is there coolant, or did they just pump out the atmosphere?). Same thing with creating a holographic distraction: it's going to take time that we don't have. While we're trying to figure something like that out, it'll just kill us.
"It's weakening!" Buoyed by his sense that the tides are turning (rather than just the dumb luck of the attacks missing), Douklan fires again at the pyrokinetic monster.

@htech
Is there a sprinkler or some sort of fire suppressant system here? There would have to be, right?
May 10, 2025 11:18 pm
There are no sprinklers in the animal lab or sensor ops. When I planned for fire suppression, it was done by robots (there are portable fire suppression devices in the robotics lab, but you didn't went there.)

Do we have any access to this info?

Just the part below:

Maybe you can investigate this issue and find the second part, as no fire suppression of any kind is unusual (fire is a big thing in a space station) but like Douklan said, I don't think you have time for it now. =(

Try something else, maybe?

I dunno. Can we get Maya to do some looking in the cold storage or something like that for us? It won't know about her, and as long as she stays out of the line of sight, it won't know she's there. We can't search, but maybe we can get her to do it for us ...

OOC:
The other thing that occurred to me is blowing a hole in the bulkhead to expose the demon to vacuum since we're all in suits; the problem is that I don't think we have anything that can do that, it would be a HUGE hazard to us if we set off an explosive close enough to the monster to expose it to vacuum, and there's no guarantee that the absence of air/pressure would harm the demon. I suppose we could try venting the section if there was a way for someone close to a terminal to override safety controls to open airlocks, but (contrary to science fiction movies) air doesn't actually evacuate that fast if you're far from the opening.

I don't think it's a good idea, but I'm just listing any ideas...

The other obvious idea is to try talking to it. Maybe it's all a misunderstanding? After all, we are invaders of this station, too, but we (and by this I mean "I") automatically assumed that the robot was a reliable, trustworthy narrator, rather than a representative of the murdering rebels who stole the Heaven's Wing, experimented with extremely dangerous pathogens, and unwisely opened a dimensional portal. These are the bad guys. Of course, being an enemy of a bad guy doesn't at all mean that you're a good guy, but we might have something in common with this demon. If only I hadn't shot it so many times...

"We should run. This might not be our fight, maybe we get out of its line of sight and it moves on."
OOC:
Corbin will hold his action to see what the group does, if everyone bolts, he will too. If everyone shoots, then he will.

You can call her and she will do this =) Please note that we are still tracking the combat rounds.

Maybe. Maybe not. We can try. Call her, In Character, and I will start a counter with 1d3+1 rounds until she arrives.

Maybe everyone running, keeping a door between them and the creature, and Hank and Mercer being the last one seen would keep it following them. It may try and follow them into the medical bay and through the cryopads.

Does anyone have any grenades? Explosives?

LOL! Yeah, it happens more often than not in RPGs. I'd be really surprised if you didn't shoot that demon-looking thing.

Just so you know, this was set up months ago, so I'm not reacting/changing plans in any way with this OOC conversation. I'm just rooting for the characters and watching how things unfold. Based on your IC choices and the dice results, this is now the Final Boss Fight, so your OOC conversation makes sense.

PS: This last chapter is taking a lot longer than expected, but I'm enjoying it =).

Maybe grenades, but they are not that powerful.
[ +- ] Rules for Grenades, page 66, Ranged Weapons
They are better against multiple targets with low AC.
Regarding explosives/detonators (heavy weapons), The Dice (with uppercase) told us that Hank triggered the only explosive you had - link here

You need to throw them. One by one. They blow up in the same round you remove the safety and each takes your main action, in your round. If throwing is what you wanna, please post In Character, roll the dice and we will take it from there.

You can't use them as remote or delayed explosives. =(

Oh, sorry that was unclear. I meant I want to see if I can get the cryochamber... Nitrogen? Gasses .. on our pyrominetic creature.
I could ask an engineer if that is possible in game but asking here first
