So, the idea that we probably need to get to that door pointed to by the blue arrow all the way to the right. So, we need to make sure the corridors to get there will let us accomplish that. We will check each corridor one at a time. We will not check any doors until the party gets back together. On the other hand, we are not going to get too far ahead. We will pull back if we run into anything.

Hank figures the trio of Corbin, Mercer, and Douklan can finish off the immediate threat. And, if Douklan doesn't have a shot, Hank and Erin certainly do not. Therefore, he is more focused on seeing what's ahead of them at the moment. He says, "Erin: Check the corridor on the left; I'll check this on to our right. Maya: Keep watch on our rear and let us know if anything comes up from behind." There also looks like there is a window along the upper corridor to the left. Hopefully she can get a good look through it.

"Mercer, what happened to it??" Douklan shouts, sighting down the barrel of the plasma projector, ready to take a shot when the opportunity presents itself. "It looks like it just disappeared!!"

"Melted, dissolved, evaporated. I don't know the science, I do know it isn't a threat.
The whole place is insane." Mercer keeps focus on the remaining threat.

Aim, fire, repeat..., just like basic training, make it a routine and carry it out. Corbin shifts to the 'Ryan' on the left and fires another burst.

The remaining creature’s hand twitched, fingers curling unnaturally before a blade of shimmering, translucent force erupted from its grip — a weapon forged entirely from telekinetic energy. It moved, stepping forward and swinging the psychic blade in a wide arc aimed at Mercer’s midsection.
Mercer twisted just in time, protected by his armor and shield.
Corbin leveled his rifle again, breath steadying as he lined up his shot. The burst of laser fire streaked down the corridor, illuminating the glossy walls — but the shot went wide, the beam scorching harmlessly against the bulkhead just past the creature’s shoulder.
Douklan is unsure if there will ever be a moment with a clear shot. He can either risk it now, move closer or wait and hope for the best.
Hank steps forward, leaving the chaotic fight behind him, trusting Mercer, Corbin, and Douklan to handle the creature. His boots echoed faintly against the deck plating as he moved into the right-hand corridor. The door slid open, revealing a lounge area — or what was left of it.
Furniture was bolted to the floor, but most of it had been overturned or damaged, as if something had passed through in a frenzy. A few chairs were intact, one lying on its side. A small bar in the corner was partially stocked, though many bottles lay shattered across the floor, their contents long evaporated.
Near the far bulkhead, a small personal locker stood open, its contents partially spilled onto the deck. Hank approached, nudging a few items aside with his boot until he spotted what he was hoping for — several personal portable computers, the kind crew members would have used for everything from work logs to personal messages. Most were old models, their screens dark, but with a little luck, some data might still be retrievable.
Meanwhile, Erin’s search of the left-hand corridor revealed a row of staterooms. Each door stood ajar, some forced open, others left wide in haste. The rooms were modest, clearly crew quarters, with bunk beds, small desks, and the scattered remnants of personal belongings.
Maya remained in the main corridor, glancing nervously back the way they came.

"If you back up, we can shoot it and close some doors to block it off." Douklan repeats to Mercer and Corbin.
OOC:
Douklan is not considering what has probably occurred to all of us players: that these things may be ghosts and they're just going to keep reforming. He's only seen the one vanish so far, and that one wasn't a clear view. So he's hoping that doors will stop them, and is feeling the need to keep the group together as Hank and Erin pull farther away from the rest of us. There's no room in the corridor for a third person to stand abreast to engage the enemy, and he's not going to risk shooting Mercer or Corbin in the back.Last edited March 6, 2025 3:12 pm

Hank grabs the best looking computers and pulls back to the corridor to meet back with Erin and Maya. He doesn't want to get far from mutual support. On the comm Hank asks, "Have you finished the threat yet? Do you need help? It looks empty up here, so you can fall back if you need to."

Is the map scale 5' per square, or 10'? By the descriptions, I've been assuming 5'. If each square is 10', double those distances.Last edited March 7, 2025 5:55 am

Mercer stepped in, vibroblade humming in his grip, and swung with practiced precision. The blade should have cleaved straight through flesh — but it stopped short, slamming into an invisible force. The air rippled, like heat haze, as the telekinetic barrier flared to life, deflecting the strike with a shimmer of unnatural energy. Before Mercer could adjust, the creature lashed out with its own weapon — a blade of pure psychic force. It carved across Mercer’s armor, cutting deep through the outer plating and slicing into the softer underlayers beneath.

Hank quickly grabbed the three best-looking portable computers from the open locker, their matte surfaces scuffed but intact. With the sound of combat echoing faintly from down the corridor, he didn't waste time digging deeper — anything useful could be uncovered later.
He stepped back into the corridor, moving swiftly to rejoin Erin and Maya. Erin had just finished her sweep of the staterooms, her rifle at the ready, while Maya stood watch, her eyes flicking between her scanner and the hallway behind them.
He would need a few minutes to see what’s on these.

Hank will not attempt to access them right now. He will check the door to see if it can be easily locked or jammed when the others catch up.

As an aside, even with no life support in this area, we are not safe from these ex-Ryans because another one of the telekinetic powers lets them basically create an energy spacesuit. Since it has no oxygen supply, it will eventually run out, but it will give them extra active time. Just something to keep in mind.Something I learned when researching Wild Talent. :-)
